Hank's Bagel absolutely delivered this morning. We stopped in when it was not busy, and our order came out in about two minutes. My youngest said it felt like bagel magic. I grabbed an onion bialy with cream cheese, and I am still thinking about it hours later. The flavor was unreal. It tasted like the best part of French onion soup, just without the soup. Rich, savory, and perfect with the cream cheese. Blissful is the only word that fits. My youngest went with an everything bagel, plain, and she lit up after the first bite. Soft, squishy, exactly how she likes it. She looked at me and said, "Dad, how come you haven't brought me here before?" I told her that sometimes, for great things, you have to wait in life. We also grabbed the nectar of the gods (Diet Coke) and an apple juice. Everything was packaged neatly, easy to grab and go, and the whole experience felt effortless and the people there are wicked nice! Hank's is officially in our rotation now. read more

The bagels from this place are amazing. The toppings are always fresh... If they make it onto your bagel. Out of the five times I have picked up bagels here (ordered online and in person), only two have been correct. Three times I have brought home my orders open them up to find a missing topping. Today it was cream cheese. Last time it was avocado (a pricey loss). The people putting together the bagels need to be more conscientious about what they're doing and double-checking their accuracy. Also, the manager should be checking the order before it goes out. This is happening far too frequently for a To-Go food shop. read more

Finally tried this place on DoorDash I was delighted to see a fun take on a bagel sandwich with greens and pickled peppers. Added a side of potato salad. The new number 2 bagel was a fun idea but falls fairly flat. The greens were not cooked all the way or with the right seasoning, they were tough and bitter- there was nothing about the sandwich that was sumptuous. (As someone who just had avocado toast with greens and pickled onions and from Mississippi, I know good greens) I'd suggest making a pickled pepper cream cheese and having that support the greens and also cook the greens correctly. The potato salad was crunchy. The only service I've received here is when they told me they were closed and to leave. I wouldn't call it a deli of sorts by any means for ambiance. read more

They were out of the daily special bagels, so we grabbed a classic sesame. The flavor was pretty disappointing. The staff were fine. No one else was there, so we didn't have to wait. Now I know why. The bagel itself was extremely chewy and tough, to the point where it was actually hard to bite through. Texture aside, the flavor just wasn't there -- everything tasted pretty bland and lacked seasoning. For the price point, I expected something much better in terms of quality and taste. PERFECTION! I also tried the onion bagel (I'm usually an everything girl) and it was delicious. Not too over the top onion-y, but had great flavor and the texture was perfect. A little chewy but soft. They don't really toast their bagels too much here, so even though I asked for it toasted it didn't have much crunch. You can't go wrong with one of their bagel sandwiches, but their regular ol' bagel and cream cheese always hits the spot. The staff here is always so kind! It was messy tasty and loaded with sprouts tomato pickles and salted cucumber with vegan aioli it was tasty! The mini-me order was a plain bagel customized with tomato, fresh onions, and lox with butter on the side. Her feedback bagel was too chewy, too little lox 8$ for 2oz of farmed Atlantic lox is price-gouging were it wild caught I would ok it.... It ended up mostly tomato the onions were super thinly sliced and sparse she couldn't taste them. She gave it an ok One thing with my bagel yes it was chewy although toasted BUT with all the messy sauce and juicy veggies my bagel was not a soggy mushy mess at all! So there may be a method to the chewiness that's all I'm going to say about it. LOL read more

A great bagel without actually being in New York, Hank's is about as close as it gets. The texture is almost that perfect balance of chewy on the inside with just the right amount of crisp on the outside. It gets pretty crowded and there can be a line, but the staff has it under control and keeps things moving along. I like to grab a bagel and sit outside and enjoy the weather at one of the tables. The Everything Bagel is a standout, loaded with flavor in every bite, and the scallion cream cheese? Absolute favorite. However, the delivery of our bagels, was, unfortunately, underwhelming, especially for the price. Our Lox Bagel (no.3) was 90% veggies, and I see now that this was a common review among other patrons who ordered the same thing. It was as if they chose every veggie they had in the fridge in threw it on there, without it making sense taste-wise. The gourmet bagel fad is in overdrive in Los Angeles, but Hank's is really racing in a tournament of its own. A simply put-together store that's about baking and fixing sandwiches more than anything else, it still manages to be welcoming thanks to a cheery staff and the warm smell of freshly baked bagels. The industrial decor is functional for them, it also signals to the customers that they should keep up the pace. Of course you can buy assorted bagels by the dozen, along with various fixings to take with you -- but they've also got a full menu of sandwiches they'll make for you to either grab & go or eat at one of about 8 tables on the front sidewalk. The bagels are the closest thing I've seen to a true NY bagel in the City of Angels, with a crispy exterior and a tasty, fluffy interior. Not dense. Not gluey. Just right. I ordered an Everything bagel with scallion cream cheese and some Nova. I prefer to enjoy the flavor of the fish, so I always forego the capers and veggies, etc. I sat outside and enjoyed my breakfast before things go too hot, and walked away very happy. As for the bagel itselt, it tasted good but felt somewhat stale. I'm not saying it was rock hard, but it also wasn't soft. Not for me. Hank's Bagels is good, but also nothing to write home about. Coming off a 12 hr night shift in my new car (where no eating is allowed) and I couldn't even make it home before I had to sneak a bite because it smelled sooooooo good!! The bagel sandwich was tasty, but given this economy, a bit pricey and understandably so. No seating inside, but the courtyard is shared with Starbucks and there's plenty of seats. They bring your order out to you, so the inside is always kept clear. The bagels are just not my style, tho. Maybe I need to ask for extra toasted? It was the lightest of toasts... basically still just room temperature bread with no crisp or real heat at all, unfortunately. And I just didn't care for the consistency of these. I tried the onion, the garlic cheddar (weekend only) and the cinnamon raisin, and they all tasted more loaf-of-bread-y than bagel-y to me. The garlic cheddar has a good flavor, but it was hard to hold because it was very oily due to the carmelized garlic cloves covered in melted cheddar on top. I do recommend if you go this route, to order once they open since they tend to run out towards the end of the day. We ordered the number 1, and built our own bagels. I just have to say, these were the best bagels I've had around the LA area! The bagel was flavored well (we all got the Rosemary sea salt. The outside was crispy and light, and the inside were chewy. Their bagels aren't overly doughy which is a plus for me. The ordering process was easy and the order was completed in about 20 minutes. To pick up, there is a window for pick up and you just provide the staff member with your name. It's a good process as well given they don't have that much space for seating. I ordered it on their everything jalapeño cheese bagel, which the guy behind the counter warned would be packed with flavor and have a spicy kick. He was right. And I was more than ready. First off, the staff were awesome. The guy who took my order was super friendly, outgoing, and had a big smile the whole time. The girl who brought my food outside? Same vibe, super nice, and her smile was even better. This was probably the most insane-looking bagel sandwich I've ever ordered. That jalapeño cheese bagel? A total flavor bomb. The first bite nearly knocked me off my chair. It was a full-on mouthful of bold flavor in the best possible way. The bagel had just the right amount of heat and tang from the jalapeños, the cheese was rich, and it all blended perfectly with the tuna, onion, and aioli. Every ingredient had its moment but came together like a gourmet bagel masterpiece. With all the bagel spots I've hit and reviewed, Hank's easily lands in my top favorites. This is one of my new favorite bagel places! The bagels here are perfectly crisp and chewy. IMO, Layla in Santa Monica has better-quality produce for the sandwiches, but here you can get a combo of old-school deli fixings and new-school, quintessential LA stuff. My partner and I came on a Saturday morning around 9 AM. Street parking wasn't too hard to find and there was no line. We ordered a lox sandwich on a cheddar bagel and a whitefish salad sandwich on a sesame bagel. We also got a rosemary bagel, pizza bialy, cheddar bagel, and an everything bagel/jalapeno cheddar hybrid bagel. They also have a bunch of spreads and toppings that you can customize for your bagel sandwich, which is probably the way to go. The food came out quickly and we managed to find a seat at the front of the deli (they are very limited). At around 9:30, a longer line began to form. Pros: Amazing, crispy bagels with the perfect amount of chew and fluffy interior. They're the kind of bagels you could pile drive without any cream cheese. I like the mix of traditional and new flavors that they offer. The EJC (the everything-jalapeno cheddar) is a new favorite. The cheddar bagel is also topped with the most sumptuous garlic confit. They have a unique selection of schmears, like cream cheese with habanero (I will need to try that next time) The staff is super friendly, helpful, and efficient They have floss picks to get rid of the seeds in your teeth after eating a seedy bagel Just-ok: The only gripe I had was that the whitefish salad was pretty bland. It came on a bed of thinly sliced cucumbers and a schmear of cream cheese. I think it needed something acidic and briny to cut the richness and fishiness of the salad. Capers, a pickle, or even a spritz of lemon juice would have made it miles better. The salad itself tasted a little too overwhelmingly fishy (this is coming from someone who loves fishy types of fish) for me. Not my favorite. Hank's Bagels is a bagel shop with locations in Burbank and Sherman Oaks. I haven't been in person, but we went over to our friends' place on Sunday and they treated us to a take-out brunch. They picked up a nice spread of loose bagels, as well as a few sandwiches for the adults. I don't like bagels enough to eat them without a bunch of fixings, and I enjoyed my Number 3 sandwich, which came with Hank's gravlax, scallion cream cheese, capers, radish, pickled onion, salted cucumber, sprouts, tomato, and dill. Tasty and filling, with veggies spilling out with every bite. We have a few bagel spots near us that we depend on whenever we have friends and attendant families over for brunch.
