I would not come here again. The room was not clean and the lady who signed me up was just trying to close a deal. They opened a line of credit and somehow it got approved even though I had a credit freeze. They were not transparent about how the tattoo removal works because it's going to be painful depending on the area and the piece. I did get a refund but I really don't know how they came up with the price of $550 for 1 session but of you research other places they will have this price for 3 sessions. I came to Removery in San Diego because of the great reviews, but honestly, I had a really bad experience. When I walked in, Adriana was laughing with her coworker, and it felt like she was laughing at me. No kindness just "come up, and a hand wave" like I was bothering her. The vibe was rude and uncomfortable right from the start. I told her I wanted to think about it, but I felt totally pressured into buying a $600 package I didn't want. She said I could cancel and get a refund no problem, even though they had me sign something that said "no refunds." I questioned it, and she assured me (along with two others) that I'd get my money back if I changed my mind. Well, I did change my mind, and suddenly it was radio silence. Before, they were texting nonstop. After I canceled? Nothing. I walked out feeling bullied and embarrassed. I started my tattoo removal journey with San Diego Laser Tattoo Removal in El Cajon, which was originally located in a tattoo shop before moving to a medical office and then now with Recovery Tattoo Removal and Fading. Over the course of my treatments, I noticed differences in the laser technology and equipment used at the various locations so not sure if this would be a fair rating for this location. I purchased an unlimited package for around $1,400 in 2016 (prices may have changed since then) and had to take a two year break or so due to a pregnancy/nursing and was last seen in 2023. I had two tattoos removed--one on my inner ankle, which was solid and dark, and another on my back that was more of an outline. It took nine sessions for the ankle and ten for the back. I waited a few months in between each because I was told this would help improve the results (this is why treatment was spread out over several years). The tattoos are gone. I was left with some hypopigmentation; barely visible and overall I'm very happy with the results, but it's something to keep in mind if you're considering tattoo removal. However again, most of my treatments were with older technology so the risk of this could be smaller with the newer. Disney was my tech from the very beginning to completion and he was always awesome. Very professional, gentle, and considerate of my comfort as well as with explaining the process. Numbing cream about 30-60 minutes before will help with pain and take the edge off! read more

Tattoo removal is a very, very painful, $$$expensive and time consuming process. I have a large tattoo in my arm that I am in the process of removing. This is a great place to do it. Quick, efficient, clean office. I started in April, it's now October and my tattoo is very much still there, only slightly faded so you have to be patient with the time it will take. I asked if they have sales because this is a huge financial decision and the sale person replied that they pretty much never have sales and then they have a 25% off sale within two months of my purchase. That would have been a savings of $750 - significant to a single parent. I understand they have to claim they can't predict sales because they are trying to make the most money they can off of you. In fact, she told me prices were about to go up. I NEED MY MONEY BACK NOW. I signed up for unlimited sessions because after 5 sessions I noticed literally no change... idk how I got convinced to sign up to keep going. Anyways did that paid A LOT. Then literally a week later I find out that this place named "removery" a big corporation took over. Didn't care cause I already paid for unlimited sessions and they were being transferred through. Ok I'm THREE YEARS down the line and my tattoo is still barely even faded. I'm not sure if their machine sucks or if they're not putting the machine high enough.. I have expressed I have a high pain tolerance so many times and to increase the settings. Also the way they stress for you to wait sooo long in between appointments because it will actually help... BS. I started in February 2020 it's April 2023. I will be getting this tattoo surgically removed at this point and wish I had just done that three years ago. Such a warm and welcoming staff, answered my questions and busted some of the myths I heard about tattoo removal.

I have paid for a full removal of my tattoo. Long story short, I had an appointment that they cancelled a few days before without giving a reason. They offered me a new appointment a full month later. When I told them I wouldn't be in town anymore they told me they would put me on the WAITLIST. Look, I understand that something got messed up and that they had to cancel my appointment. But when you cancel you should move things around to minimize the inconvenience to the customer. In this case, that means fitting me in during one of the other days that I am in town. I tried to explain this to them which was very awkward to have to do. Anyways, you don't get to shift the entire burden of your screw up onto the customer, who has already paid you. This is extremely unprofessional. read more

It's taken me a very long time to get around to writing this review. I originally got my sessions done in 2017, in preparation for a cover-up. I can easily put a big caveat on my review: RESULTS NOT TYPICAL. I was told during my consult that my tattoo--a tree on my lower back--had been done very deeply with a lot of ink and that the skin was already scarred but that the Pico would still work great on it. And it did. But. The first session was so painful that I couldn't endure more than half of the tattoo being done. I paid for three sessions but ended up going in five times, because the first four times were half and half. The staff were lovely and didn't charge me more even though I came in two extra times. The third session we managed all in one go. The nurse did three passes with the laser. I'm sure she wanted to blast as much ink as she could. My reaction afterwards was severe--almost two hours of burning pain and cramps in my abdomen that I imagined were like labor pains (having since given birth--they were!). My best friend is in the medical industry and told me the cramps were probably "referred pain" from the prostaglandins being released into my belly area by the inflammatory response from my back. Which was good to know but it was seriously awful. I had blistered the previous times but the blisters from the third session were HUGE and the resulting burn was miserable. I ended up missing a day of work to go to Urgent Care for because the burn caused this itchy crawling sensation that made it impossible for me to sleep for two days. At Urgent Care they put a patch over it for severe burns and gave me a systemic steroid shot that helped a lot. The doctor told me that she had never seen a worse reaction from tattoo removal. Well, I recovered. And the tattoo faded nicely. But. When I started to get tattooed months later, the area of skin where the tattoo was removed was so much more sensitive than the rest that it was almost unbearable to get it tattooed. I was glad when I fell pregnant after only two sessions because it meant I had to wait at least a year before going back. Surely the area that had been lasered would be healed by then, right? Well, it's 2020 now, and that whole area of skin is not "healed." I ended up going to get it checked by my dermatologist and was told that the damage to my skin was extensive enough that I have nerve damage, and there are whole areas where the actual pigment of my skin was removed. She reassured me that while I do now have some elevated risk of getting cancer there, it should be minimal and we just have to watch it carefully. I did end up finishing my tattoo, and I don't know how I got through having that area tattooed because it was unbelievably painful (I did a lot of sobbing on the table, I can tell you that). The most unfortunate part is that because my skin is so damaged, it's not holding ink like it should. Chunks of the cover-up that were done just a couple of months ago are noticeably faded and I already need to do a touch-up in the damaged area. So is Pico effective at removing ink? Absolutely. But I don't think that it's responsible to do, say, three passes of the laser on a tattoo that is very deep and very dark. The laser blasts the ink apart regardless of where it is in your skin, and if you have a tattoo like mine was it can cause extreme damage to the skin. You can see from my photos the difference between my reaction to one pass and three passes. I think if the nurse had just done one pass, the ink-removal wouldn't have been as much but the damage to my skin would have been far less. For a cover-up that would have been just fine. I'm giving two stars, not because of the staff (they were lovely and accommodating) but because I think what I've just said--about the number of passes and extent of skin damage--should have been apparent to the nurse administering the laser. And I'm stuck with the nerve-damaged skin that doesn't want to hold ink, so that really sucks. I wouldn't want to turn anyone off from using Absolute, but even though everyone seems to want to do things fast and cheap, there are times when you might really pay for that in the long run. I'm still paying. I share all of this knowing that my tattoo was not typical, so bear in mind that if you *do* have a very deep, dark tattoo and want to get it removed with minimal damage, you'll want to take it slowly and do way more than three sessions with only ONE pass of the laser. Or have them adjust the settings. Or something! Just be aware that there is a potential for long-term damage to your skin if you try to do something like this quickly and cheaply. read more

If you have permanent makeup, such as Red lip liner, please learn from me and do not even laser-test the area at all! My MD Derm told me today that red ink often oxidizes, and when it does, it turns black PERMANENTLY. So my line is permanent. (Photos are after 4 weeks, no fading). The nurse did 2 test areas (I allowed the 2nd) which was not necessary, acc. to my doc since the first spot turned black. My doc says when they test a spot on red ink and it turns black it is SMALL, like a freckle. I wish ALT had the type of laser that my Derm uses. The nurse who was very professional and polite, told me she has seen ink turn black, but never permanently. She said she could still not guarantee it would not be permanent. My doc has never seen it NOT be permanent. My next option: Find a reputable perm. makeup artist ask for ink matching my flesh to cover black line and lip line. ALT, please do not even try to remove red permanent makeup with that same laser. A freckle-sized spot would have been easier to live with than this. ALT is probably fine with reg. tattoos. read more

After 11 sessions over the span of 7 years, I am done! There were a couple of times that they weren't able to work on me due to the condition of my skin (I didn't realize kayaking in overcast weather or a 3-week old spray tan would be a problem, oops!). I really appreciated the honesty and transparency that I experienced. Absolute (the company that I started with prior to the Removery takeover) recommended a 9 session treatment plan based on the size and colors of my tattoos. I agreed and paid in full. My small black tattoo (photo included) was removed very quickly; however, my bigger red and black tattoo took some time. After 9 sessions, they recommended that I paid per session rather than sign up for another session plan because the ink was almost gone. I appreciated the fact that I wasn't pressured into anything. At session 11, they informed me that "the laser had done as much as it could do", which I expected at that point. I was satisfied with that answer and with the outcome. After reading other reviews on here, I think it's important to say that everyone reacts differently but I do feel that staff were extremely transparent with what to expect and I also signed consent paperwork acknowledging that some colors are more difficult to remove than others. I'm currently in the process of removing a large (mistake) tattoo located on my lower back/above my right hip. I booked a consultation with Danielle who explained the different types of lasers and the entire tattoo removal process. I originally started the removal process at a different tattoo removal office but I chose to continue here because they offered me individualized promotional pricing that was incredibly difficult to decline. I had my first session with Absolute today (second removal session in total). The office is very clean and inviting. The receptionist was ready with my information when I arrived. I was immediately taken to the photo room for pictures of the subject tattoo. Afterward, I spoke with Danielle to complete the paperwork. I waited less than 7 minutes in total, from arrival, to start my removal session. The nurse who conducted the removal session was extremely friendly and easy to talk to. The removal session itself was very quick once the laser was energized and adjusted to my skin. They do provide numbing cream, however, I opted not to use it. If you do have sensitive skin or a low pain tolerance, I recommend contacting Absolute before your appointment to get started with their numbing cream. Their standard pricing is fair and in line with the industry standard in San Diego. Again, I was given individualized promotional pricing during my initial consultation.
