We've had a good run of success with companies to fix a pesky leak in our home. Last year, we hired Absolute Lath & Stucco to repair the faulty flashing around a large window. After more rain the area leaked again and, on the advice of a gentleman of A-Taylor Made Windows, we hired the independent specialist American Leak Detection, who confirmed the flashing repair was successful and identified the actual source. Based on their proven success, we hired Absolute again to do the needed repair and to skim-coat the entire wall. Absolute's Ray Rhead managed the on sight job easily and Johnny worked closely with us to ensure satisfaction, which included accommodating a delay caused after the manufacturer changed the color formulation since the original covering was applied. Once the coloring material was mixed at the factory, the next day Ray and crew completed the job. It looks beautiful. It seems like the majority of the previous reviews are based on untimely communication and tardiness to appointments/estimates but not on the actual workmanship of their craft. I agree that responsiveness and timeliness could be a bit better. I'm sure we can all improve on that, however the quality of the work was impeccable once our project was underway. We recently had the front and one side of our house stucco'd by Absolute Lath and we are so pleased with the job that they did. Also, they did a wonderful job cleaning up! I highly recommend giving them a call (make sure to stay on top of them, especially if you are expecting an estimate) and a shot at quoting your stucco project. I picked Absolute Lath & Stucco strictly because their bid came in at a lot lower than another contractor. I didn't know anything about them before. I had never heard of them. Johnny is easy to deal with. There were some issues originally during the long course of the project (which I will detail below), but eventually those issues were addressed to my satisfaction and the overall stucco job is of good quality at a good price. Despite some hiccups along the way to completion, I'm giving them a five-star review now. Items of concern: 1. They provided only ONE line of defense against water intrusion by using that black sticky flashing. That flashing stuff is not 100% reliable either due to faulty application or because of failure due to weathering over several years. I requested Johnny to apply high quality caulking in addition to using the sticky flashing and his crew finally did it after some prodding from me. 2.Porch lights were removed by his crew and never put back in. This created a huge hazard for my tenants and huge liability for me. I bugged Johnny and his crew repeatedly and they would make repeated promises to reattach the lights but never did it. I finally reattached the lights myself. 3.His crew permanently damaged my 13-yr old fiberglass shingle roof by dripping stucco cement all over the roof without sufficient drip protection. It was everywhere on the roof and could not be cleaned off without damaging the roof. Although Johnny blamed it on a bad foreman that he eventually fired, ultimately it really was Johnny's own responsibility for failure to sufficiently monitor the jobsite. Let's just say that in the end Johnny took care of the damage for me to my satisfaction and I give him kudos for it. 4. Cement was splatted over my parking railings. Again, Johnny took care of this by repainting it. 5. The whole stucco process took over three months to complete from signing of the contract to final payment. It was unbearably long. 6. Johnny's crews are quite irregular. Different crews are sent to do different phases and oftentimes one crew did something (or some damage) but the other crew did not know the damage was caused by the first crew and so the damage didn't get addressed until I noticed it and began to pester Johnny about it. As an example, his first crew pulled the main electrical conduit from the wall to create space so they can apply the tar paper and wire mesh, but this first crew did not restore the conduit to the original position. Then the second crew would come in days later to apply the first cement coat, but this crew did not know that the first crew pulled the main conduit away from the wall and so did not bother to push it back in. Now the second crew came in and applied the base cement coat and everything became set in concrete. A permanent unwanted and unsightly gap now exists between the conduit and the wall. This slight unsightliness is not catastrophic, but merely annoying. This is really symptomatic of Johnny have been stretched a little too thin and not being able to exercise sufficient control and care and sufficiently monitor the jobsite. Regardless of these issues, I was ultimately able to get a very good stucco job at a good overall cost, so the five-star review. Advice to prospective customers of this company: You definitely can get good results with this company at a very good price, although it will take some care on YOUR OWN part to constantly monitor the job site and job progress to make sure things get done to your satisfaction in a timely manner. I suggest taking lots of pictures of your property (including the roof) beforehand so that you can see what issues Johnny needs to address. I do recommend this company. read more

I promptly received a visit for some stucco repair but never received the promised estimate or return of my phone calls.

They do an "okay" job but often leave clients sitting for weeks, if not months, before finishing the job. My elderly neighbors have been sitting with a half-completed job for over two months. The rest of the neighborhood has to deal with them showing up at 6:30a on random weekends to do a small amount of work then leave. They did the same thing to our neighbors across the street a few months back. Everyone says their bids come in low, but so is their work ethic. Hire them if you want the job to drag on for months with little resolution. read more

Have had a bad experience with Absolute Lath & Stucco. I would not recommend them! I hired them to re-stucco my house. Had communication problems from day one. I have a fence that runs up to the house. I thought they agreed to remove the post to do the stucco behind it. They thought I would. When I asked them to do it they said it was in concrete and would be hard to do. I removed it very easily. It was not in concrete. I asked them to cover my artificial grass in the front yard, but they didn't. Fortunately I was here and had to call Johnny to get it done. I had to clean some of the product of the grass. Not easy. Not necessary if they would have covered it before starting on the front. They matched our color great, but did not tell us that it can form bubbles when mixed and when it dries it will pop and leave white spots all over. I also brought to their attention the cracks in the old stucco. They were suppose to put a material on first that would keep it from cracking. All worked but one place in the front. There is a crack that runs down from the middle of the front window to the ground. Have been trying for months to get them to come out and fix, but communicating with Johnny has been extremely frustrating. Before even calling them for a bid, ask yourself why are they a contractor that does not list an address but only a P O box.... Wish I would have thought of this before selecting them to do the work. I would have gladly paid more had I know this was going to happen! read more

The owner is a con artist!! Shows up for 1 day, talks you into giving him a payment then never comes back. He talks badly about his employees but trusts them to work without him there! I have been waiting over a month to get my house done and keep getting told he will be there "tomorrow " but no one ever shows up. I highly DO NOT reccomend this company. The owner is a joke and lies to get money. Says he only takes cash payments which should've been my red flag!! If I can save anyone else from going through this hell I've been going through then here you go. Again... do not hire this company you will regret it!!! read more

I made a appointment and waiting on the estimator to show up around 8am. No one showed up or called until around 1230 pm the same day. They mention we had a appointment at 9am and we working a job, understandable. They then wanted to meet in a hour from the current time at 1:15 pm. No one showed up up and no one called. Tried calling and leaving another message on their web site to which still this day has not been answered. read more

Very responsive and quick. Called Monday set visit for estimate next day Tuesday. Johnny was there early and gave a firm quote on the spot. His crew was stuck in the 205 traffic so he had them return to Tracy and did my complete job that day. Good quality work, no mess. I recommend them highly. read more

I hired them to re-stucco my entire house last 5/23/16. I was informed that once they started a job they stayed on the job until it was completed. John Canedo the Contractor, also the husband of the owner of the business, listened to what said I wanted done. He said no problem. They didn't finish until late 8/2016. We had to fight every step of the way and then when they said it was done it looked like we hired someone off the street. The color was not the color we picked out, even though according to what Danielle Serpas-Park advertises in the Home Advisor site they use Parex and Omega. We filed a claim against the bond company in LA. Claim was denied according to Ms Serpas-Park this is how the decision is made: the bond person asked her if she wanted to pay the amount that was on a quote(that we asked to provide) the amount was more than we were asking for, we just wanted our money back. Ms Serpas-Park said NO. The bond person then said they would pay $500.00. The amount that their expert said it would cost to repair items on his punch list. So that is how a claim against a bond company and Contractor is decided. Not concerned that the entire house looks like crap and the owner's are out of money to have their house done the right way. So even if a contractor is listed on the CSLB website as having a license and bond, that doesn't mean anything. You'd probably have better luck at going and hiring someone at a Home Depot parking lot. They probably would do a much better job than a so called PROFESSIONAL CONTRACTOR. hm, for some reason, i thought these guys were legit from finding them online somewehre, but now i see that other folks share my frustration. they came to my house 1 month ago to do an estimate. received an estimate and a date to complete the project. they never gave me color options so they pushed the project back. now, one month later, it's been *literally* daily/weekly follow ups with them to see when they can reschedule me. they would schedule me and not show up, rinse, repeat. holy moly. they just keep pushing me back a day, a week, and i think now they've given up on me cuz they refuse to answer my calls, call me back and respond to my emails. this is simply not how business is done. i dont really care if you have larger, bigger ticket projects, if you don't have the bandwidth to serve me and my 3800$ project, then let me go. be a professional and tell me that my project is too small for your liking instead of stringing me along for a month. otherwise, schedule me onto your calendar and come when you say you will. holy moly. i guess theres a reason for why they need to put the 'positive reviews' up as their photos as opposed to photos of their work. what a JOKE. read more

I needed some work done on some cracking exterior stucco on a rental property I have out there. Being out of the state, it's really hard to find reliable work for the house. They gave me a quick estimate that was hard to beat, and repaired it quickly. Was just all around helpful and lovely. Definitely would recommend them in the future. read more
