The tour was super informative and engaging--our guide really knew their stuff and made the whole whiskey-making process come alive with great stories and history. The tastings afterward were the highlight! Every pour was smooth and full of flavor. We loved the variety and ended up taking home a bottle (or two ). He came on time to pick up us. We weren't quite ready, but he waited patiently. There were 7 of us. We rode in the immaculate white Explorer. We were a little cozy, but it was fine. Fred was very accommodating, flexible, friendly, helpful and kind. One of my grandsons is handicapped and he was very helpful with him. Let him ride in the front with him and helped with his walker. We were allowed to bring snacks and water which we indulged in between stops. He dropped us off at the door and we did not see him again until it was time to move on to the next stop. One of the wineries was closed for a wedding so he substituted another winery on the opposite side of the tour we were doing, but were interested in because the winery has a store in our town that we go to often. We had a great time! If you are in doubt, go for it. We met his wife, Heidi, at one of the stops and I am sure she would be just as good.

Hubs actually was exploring our route and discovered this place so we bookmarked it in case we had time. Both times we visited, we were kind of strapped for time so we have yet to go on the tour. They do allow for tastings of their many boozes but they limit it to 6 or 8, which is very smart. I think we did not have that many our recent trip. Since we purchased 6 bottles our first trip (they give a discount for 6+ bottles), we were already familiar and wanted to try some of their new items. Both times we visited, we brought in our dog and she received a lot of attention. They have dog toys so of course I had to buy her one each time. Now those are really expensive! The prices vary for their bottles, maybe averaging about $55. Some are cheaper and many are more expensive than that. They also sell merchandise in the same room you do the tastings. We never have time but they do free tours and I wanna say they last about 45 minutes. It is in the middle of nowhere so it's not like you can make a day out of it any stay in town, while filling up an entire itinerary for a day. We really enjoy their bourbon and keep stock of the Blueberry and Mint Julep flavored bourbons. Everyone is always hospitable when we visit and that motivated us more to support them!

She pointed out that they use as much local stuff as they can and NO GMO stuff. It was a small area to tour but they have big plans. The site was clean and organized. It was neat seeing all the stages of the process and learn a little bit of why they feel they are good and unique. After chatting we went in the tasting room. There were some cubbies with product to purchase but first we talked about all the different whiskies and bourbon. I'll save the tale of why they don't call the product moonshine for when you go by and ask. ;-) I enjoyed all the samples though some were just not for me. I appreciated learning about how each came about and how the formulas were tweaked to what they are today. I came away with a few bottles and a promise to her that I will be back the next time I am in Carbondale.
