It's been a while since I've been back to Abuelo's and quite honestly I'm a little disappointed in the service I received. I understand with everything going on the staff may be limited and other things may be limited as well but, my waitress may have check on our table maybe twice within the entire hour we were there. The food was brought out by someone else. The "Mexican Stack" is by far one of the worst things I've seen brought out. The presentation needed work. The entire dish was greasy and unappealing. The biggest problem was the fact that our assigned waitress Avery didn't come back to check in with me. I ended up having to ask some other waiter for help (thankfully he was nice and accommodating). Anyway, I ended up ordering the enchilada plate and that was alright. I don't know what went wrong today but this will definitely be my last visit. read more

This place was great. Until we were leaving and I'll get to that in just a sec. But the starters. Amazing. Had the queso with ground beef and the spicy sauce. Was honestly amazing. They have 4 salsas to choose from and all are amazing. I loved the habanero one the most. Got the carne asada tampequena (sp). Cheese enchilada and a purse of skirt steak which was cooked perfectly. Marinated amazing. Peppers and cheese on it. Just so so good. The potato's and the beans were also good. But Paul, you only have it two stars? What gives? Well I was watching a booth being cleaned and they took the nasty ass broom they used for cleaning the floor and started sweeping the booth seats with the exact same broom. While this may not bother some folks it just irked me to no end. They didn't spray anything free to disinfect. Just swept it with a nasty broom then watched the next family sit down. The food? Excellent. Would recommend it to anyone. The way they turn over tables? Is gross. What if you used your hands to slide across. I mean just dunno not an huge germ a phobe but this is just flat disgusting. Would love to go back but honestly doubt I will. UPDATE: So Abuelos reached out and asked me to come back for another shot. Gave us some vip cards to try the food again, on them. So they do two things right here. Their salsa. And their marination of the steaks. It was a very slow night, we were sat in the bar area in a booth and our waitress just wasn't present. As in a manager walking around had to give us refills of chips and drinks. Never checked in to say "he foods maybe 5 minutes away", nothing. She wasn't being run very much from what I could tell. She just wasn't providing any discernible service to us. I'm very non picky here. Just a full drink and a refill of chips and I'm pretty quiet. But I didn't get the touches. The "how's your food"? Well it wasn't hot and am afraid it died in the window. When it got to me most of the food was lukewarm. I'm not saying this to get them to send me more certificates. I ate here with my family recently. We all love Mexican food and my Dad loves this restaurant so we all went one night. We came when there was a football and baseball game going on so it wasn't that busy. Usually when my family comes here, they said it's super busy because the food is so good. We were seated right away. Our sever was really friendly and helpful! They were playing Ricky Martin and Enrique Iglesias which was cool to hear because I haven't heard them I'm a while! I wasn't really hungry when I came here, but I can always eat. I love food, especially Mexican. I saw their margaritas and even though I didn't get one, I would highly recommend one! My Sister and Mom have had them before and said they are really good! I'll be grabbing one next time! I ordered a beef and cheese quesadilla. Tried out Abuelos and it was really good! I got the Colorado and American Flag Margarita. The steak fajitas were SO tender and paired really well with the cheese enchiladas. Definitely big portions and I had to take it home because there was so much food! The margarita was also delicious and pretty strong. Their other dishes also looked really yummy but this place is a bit far from me so not sure if I'd make the drive all the way back just for this place. Forgot to review when we went a few weeks ago.We ordered the Chimichangas and some mojitos, both of which were pretty good-the mojito seemed larger than the size other restaurants serve. I wished the chimi had been more crispy(we did ask for them to be fried extra otherwise it's just a burrito)but they tasted good. We liked sitting off in the side room where it was a bit quieter and so could talk without loud music or noise from other patrons.All in all a good experience. read more

Use to be one of my favorite places to go. However after the last 3 experience I will not return. It started with my to go order , I ordered fajitas for 2. Got my order and took it home. You can imagine my surprise when I got home and was ready to serve the husband and I dinner and found it was missing a main ingredient, the tortillas. I had to drive back up to the location during my drive I called the restaurant to speak with the general manager, he had just got done with a meeting he said where they were discussing customer service. He was very nice and said he would come our meal for the inconvenience and put it back on my credit card. A week later the credit still has not arrived On top of that I ordered fajitas to go again and lo and be hold I decided to check my order when I got in the car. NO tortillas AGAIN. I had to walk back in and ask for them. So after the last 3 failed attempts at service both time with no tortillas and my refund not ever being provided, we will find a new favorite TEX -MEX place to go to. Poorly done read more

I love Abuelo's! We've been here a few times and every single time we've been happy. El Jefe is legit. Try it! The salsa tropical that comes with the salsa trio is my absolute favorite, but they're all delicious... well, to be honest, one of them I only tasted one time, because it's hot as hell and I don't even remember the flavor of it, because I only remember feeling like I'd consumed straight lava. Still, I assume, for crazy people who like their tastebuds singed completely off, they'd dig this particular salsa, since literally everything that I've put in my mouth from this place has been fire (pardon the pun). My usual is the Juarez, a little bit of all my favorites. But whenever I branch out, I'm always happy with what I pick, i.e. the Pechuga! Ho-ly smokes that stuff was so good that I was literally trying to soak up all the sauce onto the rice so I wouldn't miss any of it. The flan... Oh. Em. Gee. It's all so good. Aside from the amazing food, the staff has always been stellar too. We've had a different server every time we've gone and they've all been great. I think the one that stood out to me the most was Benny (?) He was so attentive and kind to our rambunctious toddler, being super careful to keep hot or spicy things out of her reach. You might be surprised to learn how rare that experience is for us, so it's incredibly nice when it does happen. First the waiter was very nice. I had to ask him for water refills and chips, which I think I should never have to do. For starters we had a skinny margarita which felt like we drank a powder mix with liquor, terrible. Then had what they called a top shelf shaken. It was not very good. Our order included beef fajita taco which had a salty tasting flavor but it was tender. The lettuce, tomato, beans and rice were ok. Beans and rice taste was so so. Beans should have more of a bacon type taste. In my opinion. Tortilla soup was excellent. Had a cup wish I would have ordered a bowl. Finally ordered the Juarez plate and the tamale was average the taco was good, the chicken enchilada below average and the cheese enchilada was average. Chile con queso had no taste. Overall not great. The place wasn't busy when I drove up on a Thursday at 645pm. That should have been a sign. Again everyone was nice. My first time visiting this restaurant with my family and it was a true 10/10 for us. Walked in and was greeted immediately and did not wait no longer than 5 minute to have them seat our group (6 plus 2 kids). Our server was the best, very respectful, helpful, and friendly. The food was amazing, fresh and no a long wait. The drinks were very good as well. The inside is beautiful! Very lively and spacious. Incorrect order was served to me. Waitstaff wanted to take food from another person's plate after he already started eating from the plate to correct the mistake. In a world filled with contaminants, how is this acceptable??? Also, the fajita meat appeared to be boiled steak and the chicken looked as though it was precooked frozen chicken from Walmart. Everthing was cold and had not been grilled. I drove all the way to Missouri City, TX to eat at Lupe Tortilla for real Mexican food. Excellent food , service and ambiance. The chili rellenos were perfect. Crispy outside with a delicious tomato sauce. Shredded beef enchilada was awesome- smoked beef flavor. You get a choice of rice or papas with queso or chili. I got queso and really liked it. They give you a flight of salsas to try and you get to pick what you want. The restaurant is very attractive inside with different styled rooms. We ate in the bar and May was a good server for us. Wish we had this restaurant in Cyprus! We will go back. read more

Worst meal I've had in years. Last went to Abuelo's before the pandemic. Food was fair then, thought we'd give it another try tonight. It was worse! I had the steak street tacos. They were a tasteless mess. The steak was greasy & bland, the tortilla had no flavor & tasted like it was just warmed up in a microwave. The only thing you could taste was the lettuce they had served on the side!! My husband had the Chile rellanoes & they weren't much better. The cheese one was fair, the beef one was horrible. The meat tasted like it came out of a can. The rice and beans were ok but to quote my husband "nothing to write home about." I can honestly say that this might be THE BEST margarita that I have ever had! The key is the grilled orange. Yes, grilled orange. This margarita is served qith a grilled orange in the glass. I cannot describe the depth of flavor this adds. Our server Amanda, who is also a bartender, explained that the tequila is also infused through grilled orange. Also - the El Jefe packs a punch. You only need one! I drank two and am glad I was not driving! For lunch I had Mi Abuelo's Manjar. This is three stacked enchiladas layered qith beef, cheese and chile con carne. Then, topped with two eggs cooked as you like. I chose my eggs to be over medium. The place itself was nice inside. I didn't have many expectations because I like to go in with a positive mindset when I try a new restaurant. The menu was pretty standard. First, our plates came out scorching hot. I ordered the quesadilla plate and the quesadilla had queso inside and cheese on top. Very weird since quesadilla usually has melted cheese inside. My boyfriend ordered the steak and enchiladas plate. Steak was very tough and tasted like the grille and had very little flavor. The server was nice, not super attentive. When we ask for the bill we don't like to wait long just to have to pay and tip and we waited almost 10 minutes. Not the best Tex-mex place and I probably won't be returning. read more

So we were hungry for Enchiladas tonight and decided to try this place out. I placed a to-go order (two enchilada plates) with chips and salsa. When I arrived to the restaurant, the front hostess was wrapping cutlery without a mask and no gloves (per the restaurant protocol) employees must wear masks at all times. But I digress. As for the food which was 33 bucks "high price chiladas", it was pretty sad to say the least. The food was cold and poorly packaged, even after they charged me a packaging fee (news to me). I was pretty disappointed with it over all. Would I eat here again, who knows. But I definitely wouldn't be paying 33 coins for sub-par enchiladas. read more

This is the worst Mexican restaurant I've ever been to. Taco Bell is better. First and last time here. Shocked they have any patrons with this garbage food. Ordered the queso Diablo which was watered down. The salsas suck. They bring out 4 and not one is good. Ordered the fajita combo. They put bbq sauce on the shrimp. Weird and not tasty. The chicken fajita was the best thing they had. Also ordered the burrito which was pretty much an enchilada because it had only meat and cheese inside. We were so disappointed. I'm so glad we decided to stop and grab dinner before heading to Costco. This place is usually slammed on the weekend, but we arrived around 5:45 on a Friday and there was no wait. The chips and salsa are very unique. They have 4 different kinds, including on that is even made with pineapple. The queso could use a little work. It was thin and tasted a bit watered down. I ordered the enchilada plate with 3 enchiladas- cheese, spinach and avocado. It was good but I expected the avocado to at least have slices of avocado. But it didn't; it was just guacamole in a tortilla and smothered in cream sauce. So it didn't have enough texture for me. Hubs got the taco plate, and he said it was pretty good. Something that's interesting and good, is that you can sub rice for pappas y chili (mashed potatoes with peppers). It was pretty good! Even my 9 month old enjoyed those. If you like margaritas and sangria, try the Sangria swirl. It was very good and potent! I didn't want to go to Costco hungry, but I ended up going tipsy. Over $300 later, I'm not sure which was worse...Haha! Oh. I almost forgot! They have game tablets at the tables (just like chilis). We were in Houston performing retail pricing research. When it got to be lunch time, somebody said "I'm hungry". Pulling out trusty Yelp, I started looking for things nearby. Reading off the choices, somebody said they had eaten at this place, and it was good. Off we went. Parking was great. We actually got a spot at the front door. We were greeted promptly upon entering and immediately taken to a table. The table had no electric outlet, so the hostess looked around for one that did and moved us to that one. Our waiter came quickly and was really friendly. He explained the menu and went to get our chips and salsa. Upon returning, he explained the flavors (and heat profiles) of the 4 salsa choices. We all ordered off the "lunch" menu, and all ordered something different. One of our party did not want flour or corn tortillas, so he told her about the lettuce wraps which she ordered. The food was brought promptly and was steaming hot. I was disappointed as my order was half the size of what I'm used to getting in other restaurants. The wife ordered ground beef nachos how do you screw that up? well let me tell ya, don't put any ground beef on the nachos when I am telling you, there was literally burnt Specs and I'm not exaggerating of ground beef and whatever they used for the nachos they were flour tortillas cut in half and mind you they were still pretty raw. This place is highway food? You're in the middle of nowhere you starve nothing else is around go waste your money with them, and I truly hate to give a place of bad right up, but they deserve it. read more
