He was a "neighbor" (I live in the colonies) and said he would give me "neighbor prices". Anyway...he "did his best" to fix it and charged me $425 for a $20 part and about an hour of his time. He said he hopes it will work and that's I won't need a new unit but he will check in with us tomorrow morning (today). He left the fuse out of the breaker box. Well my husband went outside because shady AC guy texted me to ask how it was going. My husband saw the fuse was left inside of the box but not plugged in. I knew right then and there that he was scamming us. This was the text he sent me yesterday evening: Hello, thank you so much for your time today. I'm sorry to be the bare fat news. Please don't shoot the messenger, but the unit is definitely 25 years old if not older. Please let me know if I can come back around between 6:30 PM at seven tomorrow evening all the way home. I also did not mention that he mentioned about 10 times that he has financing if I don't have the cash to replace the unit. And that he had changed the units On MANY of my neighbors. (Pro tip: they probably got scammed. It's how he can afford to live in the Colonies too) So I went into yelp and found Mr Garcia. He came over in the early afternoon. He didn't try to sell me anything with "southern hospitality" or even mention that I need a new unit. No pressure at all. He was very honest and explained EVERYTHING to my husband and me and showed me how much refrigerant was in the can before and how much after. Really easy and honest. So now...my upstairs is cooling down and I cannot say enough about how prompt and honest and kind Mr Garcia and his helper were. I will be happy to call him back to maintain my units and happy to tell my neighbors and friends and family about him. Warning: if you get a postcard in the mail from a young blond guy and you're in the 210 corridor area, don't call that guy. He will try to rob you and keep you paying him for his robbery for years. A family-owned and family-operated business, the brothers work very well together and all 3 are highly qualified for this installation work. Pon Air & Heating recently installed 2 Mitsubishi mini-split units for 2 of my bedrooms upstairs. They addressed all of this homeowner's concerns regarding placement of the indoor unit for the best air circulation, and the placement of the outdoor units for the best look. The brothers are qualified to do all electrical work required for the installations--unlike many other installers who need to bring in an electrician from the outside, and whose cost will be added to their estimate for you. I got more than the recommended 3 estimates for this job. I figured out which mini-split units I wanted, and then from the internet I got a general idea how much these units cost, and also estimated the cost of the extra materials that are not included with the unit (like the brackets to mount the outdoor unit on the wall, extra length of refrigeration lines for longer runs, etc.)---then I isolated the cost of the labor in the contractor's estimate, which is where the contractor blends (and hides) his price for his labor along with his profit for the company. I witnessed where big companies, especially the "5 star" companies who send a marketing guy to your home to talk you over and start drafting their estimate, and who do not possess all the technical knowledge to answer your questions about the installation, end up sending you their company estimate which in this case turned out to be 2 to 3 1/2 times more than the estimate I went with from Pon Air. The only other estimate that got close to matching Pon Air's estimate on the mini-splits is from an HVAC installer who proposed to connect the electrical lines from the new mini-split units outdoors to the existing disconnect box on my home air-conditioning unit, instead of properly running the new mini-split electrical lines all the way to the home's electrical panel box. By the way, I also used Pon Air & Heating back in May of 2022 to install my home's existing 5 ton American Standard air conditioning system. Pon Air also did a great job then, and Pon Air was also the most reasonably and honestly priced HVAC installer I found.
