I set up an appointment with the insurance adjuster and Ryan said he would be there. He did not show. I called to see if he was on his way and left a message, no reply. I called again the next day wondering if there was good reason for the situation and left another message, no reply. I never heard from him again. We continue to be extremely impressed with Academy Roofing.We noticed a leaking roof two days before we were leaving town to get married and go on our honeymoon. Academy came out right away and had everything sealed up before we left town. A couple of weeks later after a torrential downpour, we noticed some more water coming into our attic- not a lot, but still worth mentioning (we still have the original roof on our house, built in 2004). After viewing the ceiling stains, he went in the attic and located the source of the leak. He went on the roof and checked it out. He found a buildup of debris that was blocking the water flow. He cleaned out the debris and fixed the problem. Didn't try to up-sell me or charge a fee. I will definitely call them any time I have any roofing issues. Honest and reliable. read more

Gave Academy a called due to a leaky gutter. He came out and saw something and fixed it. Just had to bend something back and he didn't even charge us! WTH!? Who does that anymore? Unbelievable. Last year, Academy came out to repair a leak in our roof. Less than a year later, the roof was once again leaking in the same spot. The representative told us that the leak would be fixed at no charge, because the originally work was poorly done. He also stated that the bathroom ceiling would be fixed since they damage was caused by the shoddy work. They came out and fixed the roof, but they never returned to fix the ceiling. We scheduled a time for the ceiling to be repaired, but no one showed up. Both my husband and I have reached out to them on several occasions, to no avail. I had requested over 5 companies that had "gutter cleaning" as their service but I somehow did not get any of them to come out and provide a quote or actual service. Thank goodness Bailey answered my call and scheduled a visit right away! My gutters had not been cleaned in a couple of years (I know...!) and desperately needed servicing. I had a roof repair last May and come to find out Academy did not get to the root of the problem. I spent $625.00 for a about 5 or 6 shingles plus a small bit of flashing. Beware, Academy is about the only company out there that does not offer a repair warranty. Please read the fine print. I have had two other companies come out and stated the problem is not even close to the repairs they made! The problem is under the roof where the gutter meets the area. There is some rotten wood in the corner and that area only needs some screening to protect debris from hiding there and the moisture leaking in . I see why they don't warrant their repairs. The salesman said just give the repair a try and see what happens? Or my other choice was to pay $1495.00 to replace flashing all down a valley; which would have not fixed the true problem. For that matter the repairman did not even see the rotten wood under the eve. Rip offs and was told their roof repairman was the best out there! Shane came to inspect my roof and give me a quote. I had allot of questions because the roof looks in good condition until you look close and than its apparent that it was installed very poorly. He told me what I can do to extend the life of the roof for a few years and the best option to replace the roof after that. I will be calling him when it's time to replace. read more

The manager was prompt in inspecting and providing us with a quote for quality skylights at a fair price. However, the process of getting our skylights installed was disappointing. The first day they were scheduled install was rained out (which of course happens). I was rescheduled for the following week. The rescheduled day came and went. AR was a no call/no show. An email to the company assured me I was on the schedule for the following day. However, they were again a no call/no show. Again, the company was contacted and stated that someone would be out the following day to install the skylights. The next day I received a call from the installer stating he was 20-30 minutes away. About 30 minutes later he called back saying he was too sick to work. After contacting the company yet again, AR said someone would be out the next morning for sure. The same installer called the next day to say he would be arriving soon. When he arrived weather was too poor to work but was forecasted to be perfect later in the day. As it wasn't dire, we agreed for him to be back at 9:00 am on the following Monday. All this was relayed to AR office, and I was told that the manager would be following up by phone or email about my experience. I was never contacted. Monday the installer finally shows up at 10:30, drops his crew off and leaves for another job. They finally finish, but then I noticed the mess they left. A couch where one of the skylights is located was covered in dirt and dry wall dust. There were also dirty handprints left on the painted ceiling where they had reached in while working. The following day, I received a bill that overcharged me by $750/20% (matching an outdated estimate - this was quickly corrected after notifying their office). COVID has strained many industries in the US, leaving many without enough workers and short on supplies. Maybe this is the case at Academy Roofing regarding their installers or if their costumer service has taken a down turn. For their sake, I hope my experience was just a one off. In any case, the lack of effective communication was disappointing and, at times, just plain infuriating. The skylights seem to be correctly installed, but I expect to seek other bids for our future roofing needs. read more

See below for my original post and his response. ___________________________________________ I received several quotes on my townhouse and decided to go with a professional roofing company (even though they were slightly pricier) vs a general contractor. I regret my decision.... 1. I had to call them twice to get them to come out to do an estimate. Finally, Ryan emailed it out. I didn't get a phone call from him just to chat and talk about our roof,etc. (This should have been my warning that I wasn't about to receive the best customer service) 2. When the job was complete, I received my first and only phone call from Ryan notifying me that there was an additional fee since the roof had 2 layers of shingles. I was aware of the 2nd layer of shingles from the other estimate I received, but I foolishly thought that Ryan had included that in his estimate. We had storm damage to our roof and I had two other companies come out for an estimate. At the same time we were getting push back from our insurance company. Long story short, I called Academy Roofing, they came out the same day and completed the work within another week. They were professional and so easy to work with. On top of that when they completed the work the owner saw that some of the necessary work had not been included with the estimate from my insurance company so he put together the supplemental estimate for me with the pictures. When contractor (Shane) first came to the house, he did not recommend a tarp to cover the gaping hole in the roof for fear the insurance would not cover a new roof. The ceiling of our kitchen had caved in the night before due to the rain and the roof issue. We wanted to prevent further damage as did the insurance company. I also was angered that my husband was pressured to sign a contract upon Shane's first inspection of the roof without discussing with me or placing a tarp. They did come back out later that day to tarp at my insistence.Once roof was replaced, about a month later, the crew left. There were nails through all of our gutters, a cord hanging off the roof on the front of the house, and the fence around our a/c unit had a broken post. They came pretty quickly to repair the fence post but only put 1 slim coat of paint on the post and my mother in law saw them doing it with a towel, not a paint brush. I complained about that along with the other issues via email. I never received any response. The crew just showed up one day with no call. My husband happened to be home.This crew pressured him into paying them to do something around the chimney because it was "at risk" of leaking. Check payable to that guy personally, not the roofing company. They removed the nails from the gutters, the cord from the front, and repainted the fence post. My car ended up with a flat tire due to a roofing nail and my husbands work van had a tire blowout on the highway due to a roofing nail. They continuously tried to upsell the architectural shingles even though our roof would have been 2 toned because they couldn't be used on the front of the house due to the low slope. Overall it was not a pleasant experience. read more

Pretty disappointing.. Had gotten a quote that said clearing the roof of debris would sufficiently fix a leaking problem. Now I spent several hundred dollars on essentially just clearing my roof for nothing as the leaking did not stop and I'm suffering more damages as a result. A hole made by a squirrel on my roof that is causing the real leak was made aware to me only after the roof cleaning was done and paid for. The fact that the damage from the leak has grown in size and will cost more to repair/restore after the roof cleaning is what really upsets me. read more

I currently reside in CA and post COVID will be relocating to GA. Prior to moving, I knew I needed a new roof. I found AR on yelp and decided to give them a ring. Best decision ever. Stephen has been very responsive, honest, and supportive during the entire process. He was even able to help me locate local homes in CA which has the same brand shingles for me to compare my color options. They completed the required HOA paperwork for me and filed for the permit with the city. My family lives in GA and with proper coordination, AR has successfully finished the roof (and it looks great). We've used Academy for years because they fixed a leak that no one else could figure out. But then recently we used them again for yet another leak, and we will never call them again. Shane is excellent with diagnosing and analyzing what's going on, but the guys who fix the roof are terrible. They do a sloppy job, putting black tar all over the chimney, they put up "solutions" that will cover their butt later, but don't actually solve a problem, and they just do enough where it temporarily works but is a terrible permanent solution. How do I know? I'm getting quotes to replace our roof, and MULTIPLE companies tell me how bad their repairs are and show us the pictures to prove it. I will never, ever call them because they will pretend like they're doing a great job, but since most people don't go up on the roof to check on them, they almost never get caught. BEWARE! read more

Aside some initial confusion setting the appointment (although, it was right after three weeks of heavy rain, so this is probably understandable), I'd give Academy Roofing an A+. They were able to get me scheduled for a reasonable date, William called on the day letting me know he was ahead of schedule and asking if it was alright to show up early. He quickly identified the problem, explained a couple of options (one of which was me fixing it myself), and then fixed the issue within 10 minutes. When he left, he said something along the lines of "We always try to go the extra mile, because we stand behind our work, and we don't want to be called back out." I really appreciate that kind of attitude and commitment to doing a good job. I hope I don't need to call them back any time soon, but if I have more issues with my roof, they'll be the first people I call. read more
