Recently I got a couple of quotes to have the soffit and fascia replaced on my house. I started seeing mold in areas which I'd never seen before. One of the roofing companies that I asked for a quote told me that my new roof doesn't include a drip edge. I've never heard of a drip edge. I have read up on it now and know that it is a code item in DeKalb County. It prevents water from intruding into your soffit, hence stopping mold from growing. It also helps keep rodents out. I called DeKalb Roofing and was told that I was probably "offered" the drip edge but I declined. Hogwash. I still have their original quote for my roof replace and nowhere does it say drip edge. I'm now faced with paying over $5,000 as the cost to add the drip edge is considerably higher after the roof is completed. I don't like being deceived. I have to have some kind of trust in contractors that they will tell me what's code. Instead of cutting corners and charging huge sums like they're doing the right thing. I really don't know how they sleep at night.

I was very surprised and thrilled when Keith was able to make it out to the house the same day. He never got on the roof, although it was wet that day so I understand, but he said that he had pegged the issue and would be able to have it fixed within a week. The explanation never quite made sense to me but I trusted that he knew what he was talking about. I followed up after a week when I hadn't heard back and was given a bit of a dismissive reply that it was wet that particular day so they couldn't do anything. I followed up again 2 weeks later when I still hadn't heard anything and didn't get a response until about a month later, but it was too late. In the meantime, I got a quote from another roofer who had gotten onto the roof and found out that there was a bullet that had gone through our roof about halfway up, which was causing the water leak problem. Keith's recommended fix wouldn't have fixed this issue, unfortunately. I guess it was a blessing in disguise that we were pretty much forgotten because we were able to get the issue fixed.
