Academy in general but especially in Rogers Ark is is the worst retailer I have ever dealt with. They have products that I like but the most lousy retailer that I have ever dealt with. The management is awful and could care less if you do business with them. The inside of their store looks like a thrift store. No one ever acknowlege you. No thank you for shopping with them. And most of the employees look completely demoralized. After 15 years of overlooking all of this,no more. Walmart is more customer friendly! Good riddance!! read more

I recently bought some firearms online and had to come to the store to pick them up. Everyone at the gun bar was super helpful and nice. Good communication. Been to other sports stores and waited at the gun counter forever before being helped or communicated with.... not here though. Decent selection, friendly, helpful and efficient. I stopped by the o'fallon store to check for something in the outdoor dept. Mostly all the staff seems super friend with the exception of one skinny grey-haired employee in the department today. So I'm there looking at safes and just happen to find the widest one open. So I thought before someone child accidently gets lock in it, I would let a work from that dept know. So I come around the isle up[ to the counter where theyre was another custom who was near the counter person I previously mentioned. We both go to speak at the same time. I however told the Counter Rep that I just needed a few seconds. To my surprise he tells me to hurry up and make it quick!! I think no he didn't just act unprofessional? But I didn't say anything to him about it. I informed him that he might want to go attend to the unlocked safe before someone's small child end up trapped in it, since its not locked. All they others couldn't be pulled open, but the canon-brand safe was easily opened by pulling on the handle. Then I went and found another employee to lock the door so it just couldn't be pulled open. He was very cordial and went right away to take care of the issue, making sure they door could just be pulled open. Someone needs to tell this worker that he needs to curb his demeanor, since he is working and representing someone else's money/reputation. Lastly with his attitude why is he even working there? Yesterday, I called the Fairview Heights, IL store at 1:11pm CST to inquire about the availability of a St Louis Cardinals T-Shirt...I spoke to a young man...did not get his name...or remember it if he did give it... The Cardinals clinched a Wild Card spot for the Playoffs a few days ago...and they all wore a locker room t-shirt after the game for group / team photos..."Built for October".  They do this for marketing...to sell t-shirts to their fans.   I asked specifically, and explained what I was looking for...I was told "Yes, we have them"...I asked again to make sure...Red with "Built for October" on the front...the reply, with a little attitude..."I'm looking right at them". So, I drive 20 minutes to go buy a few for myself and gifts for others...to wear during the Wild Card Game...and hopefully the rest of the Playoffs ...and...no such thing in stock...no employees ever saw them. I asked to speak to the Manager...took about 15 minutes to see her...she was kind enough to go back in the stock room and look through new inventory...which took about another 15 minutes before coming back out with no luck. She was apologetic...but, with an "Oh well"...like this may be standard procedure....and not the first time she has had to apologize for poor customer service. So, I'm out a little over an hour of my time because one of your employees doesn't understand customer service, was too lazy to actually look,...or thinks it's funny to lead your customers on a wild goose chase...and waste their time. I gave the call time because I know you have multiple cameras in your store...and can see who answered the phone at the customer service desk at 1:11 CST....and...there is a view of your Cardinals Merchandise from the Customer Service Desk. I know employees are hard to find right now...but, at least teach the ones you have how to handle customer service...especially if working the Customer Service Desk...or answering your phone. You didn't just lose a sale, you lost a customer...and...you'll find this post on as many Academy Sports Review Sites as I can find. This place reminds me of a sports authority whenever they were still in business. This location is an old pets mart and it still looks like that minus animal food and accessories. Anyways, I came here the day after the blues won the Stanley cup to get some blues championship gear but didn't get any because they were way overpriced. They were charging way over retail compared to the fanatics website. But I guess they can do that because people were buying anyways. I'm sure they have better deals on other stuff (maybe) but not what I was looking for at the moment. I guess it was all about the demand at the time. read more

Came here to get some little league gear for my son. It was a mixed experienced. One of the big drawbacks was the low inventory. So much was gone, including the cheaper black belts. So, I had to spend $13 on an Under Armour brand. Also, the baseball bag was marked $20 on the shelf, and rang up $20, but the tag said "$14.99 everyday low price." Hopefully just an honest mistake, and they did honor the lower price, but that's a 33% discrepancy. On the plus side, the associate who helped me was very apologetic for the low inventory, and he also tracked down a pant size that seemed to be missing. He even let me have an online only special as a gesture of goodwill, since I drove a distance to the store. So, like I said, my experience was mixed. But still better than what I'm used to at Dick's, and cheaper, too. read more

I ordered five items online: two running shorts and three tank tops. One tank top came in soiled and dirty as if someone cleaned the floor with it. Another tank top was the completely wrong model (you send me the Nike Miler, which looks completely different than the Legend tank top I ordered). And the final tank top still had the anti-theft device still attached to it on the back! Jheesh! Now onto the shorts ... one pair of shorts was the correct model and color. However, the other one was the wrong color and wrong model, as if the person who fulfilled the order didn't care at all about what they were putting in the package for delivery to a customer. Very low quality and service assurance here. Now, I have to package everything back up and send it back--except for the one pair of shorts they managed to delivery correctly. Their prices are just a little lower, but they just aren't worth the hassle and headache. I'm going back to Dick's. read more

I had never heard of Academy until a few weeks ago when this store was built. Nor did I ever think that I would actually be in the store shopping. During their opening week they have giveaways, contest and of course sales. They also have catfish fishing outside the store for the children (not sure if this is for the opening or on a regular basis). This store is a sportsman heaven; they have everything from cloths, equipment and gear. I'm sure they have some type of item for every sport; Indoor, outdoor sports and hunting equipment. The only thing I don't remember seeing is probably scuba gear but I could be wrong. The store is massive big with a large variety in each section. The employees seemed very eager to assist you. Which is definitely not a bad thing! At the end of the day yes I will go back for my sporting needs! read more

I got his attention he was very rude and condescending to me in answering my question. He didn't offer to help me find anything and when he gave me his answer he went right back to his phone. You would think stores that are walking distance from major auto repair businesses would encourage shoppers. As a shopaholic, I first went to the Home Depot as I was waiting for my car. They didn't have bigger bags so I carried my Home Depot bags into the Academy store & was asked if they were from another store. I understood his need to put a sticker on the bags but his demeanor was like a security guard. He waited for me to come where he was standing to put labels on. Then said, we need you to tie the bags. (Not possible). With that I said I'll go somewhere else. It was embarrassing. He did say have a good day without looking up. Wouldn't it be nice to maybe provide a place I could leave the packages or at least walk up to me and approach me in a customer friendly manner? I am a 68 year old decent woman; I would not steal. I go to this auto sales/ repair every few months. I have purchased from this store before during these trips; they have lost a customer. read more

The staff are very knowledgeable and polite, but what they have in stock makes you scratch your head. Illinois is a concealed carry state, but they have many outside the waistband holster and few inside. They had a decent holster that would fit a light, but they stopped carrying both that holster and that particular light. Infact, many of the items on the website are no longer in stock. read more

Doing last minute gift shopping and stumbled upon this place. This store is fairly new as, I believe, they have only been open a few months. At this time of the year you expect the store to look disorganized and disheveled, but that was not the case here. It was clean and organized! The layout is similar to other sporting goods stores but everything is spread out nicely and the area they have the shoes set up in is spacious which can allow for many people to shop, look and try on shoes without feeling like you're in a mosh pit! I was able to locate a reasonably priced football for my cousin (they actually had quite a few sales on shoes, clothes, outdoor, and sporting equipment that I rarely saw in other stores like this). That made this lady happy!! Mission accomplished. I will return the next time I am looking for anything related to sports or athletic gear! read more

Sports Authority on steroids. Anything you could for your life from bow shooting to white water rafting and everything in between. They have a decent fun selection gun selection here as well which is hard to find in Illinois. Personally I like their camping section, only thing missing is a good bug out bag, other than that they have everything you could need. Just wish it was easier to find an employee here. Other than that quite impressed. You at least have to check it out once. read more

Purchased a pair of Asics Quantum size 7 today. On *DISPLAY. Had to look for the other shoe.. Not 'new' out of the box. Manager refused to give even a modest 5 or 10 percent discount. I'm not sure if that is the best course for repeat business.. Make a customer feel like 'Hey Ill tell a friend to go to Academy' not 'No I wouldnt go back.. check Amazon'.. Be a lot better if they had cashiers. Makes me want to shop online. 12 people in line, they open another but don't say anything, so someone new doesn't stay in line. Then when I get to my cashier she says she's shutting down. I'm not sure this place is gonna stay open. read more

This company is a joke. I ordered 2 coolers online for curbside pick up. Upon arrival I was informed they weren't selling coolers due to Covid the first time I asked, then because of pricing errors on there website the time I asked face to face. False advertisement on prices is not the consumers fault, and should be honored. I will NEVER shop at Academy, nor will I EVER recommend this company. I have the print out of the order with prices, and will be contacting the Attorney General for further advisement. I went in today to purchase a cross bow and some arrows, possibly a case, target and whatever else would go with it. The service I received was horrific. The employee behind the counter was texting on his phone for several minutes before approaching me. He said, hi I don't want you to think I was ignoring you. LOL. I was thinking, well that is exactly what you did. I had him get a couple of cross bows down for me to look at. I asked him 2-3 questions and his response was, I have no idea about cross bows, you should go to the place in Belleville where you can get some professional help. Obviously I left without spending a dime. On the way out I asked for a manager, just to tell him my experience. The manager wasn't much better. No one cared if I was in there to spend money or not. This place will be out of business at this rate. Off to Belleville we go to spend at least $500 but probably closer to $750. I also wanted to by a handgun but didn't even get to that. I drove over to Mikes gun shop and purchase a gun there so add another $400 to that lost sale. Terrible. read more
