I was told a patch would be ironed onto the inside and it would be permanently sealed shut to look new. They charged me $30 to do this with a black patch and said the shoe cobbler/specialist would do it, and we talked about him for a bit because he had done shoes of my family in the past well & had even sewn holes like this one before (but this one very small). My family and I had hoped to say hi to him while we were there but the front desk guy would not go get him to even let him know. When I picked up my shoes, I grabbed them and I walked to the car & immediately brought them back inside because I noticed a white patch inside poking thru the black shoe noticeably bunched up on the inside. I am not suree why but the hole was bigger than when I had dropped them off so it really showed thru. Not okay. These are expensive special edition shoes I can't replace. The guy at the front desk told me he did it himself and it would be fine and sealed permanent but if it bugged me to just color it with a permanent sharpie marker, but to go home and just try it out because it would be fine. When I got home, I tried on the shoes and the "permanent" patch came right off! Concept Shoe Repair had closed so I called the next business day. I was told I could bring it back to pay $30 more dollars to replace the patch they put on wrong & didn't work for them to redo it right! Otherwise, he said my only other options was that I could pay them $20 more dollars to buy a patch from them and fix it myself! I am NOT paying $50-60 total for a 1/4 inch hole to be patched (it was 1/8 big when I dropped my shoes with them) just to wait another week hoping this time it will be done right! I have taken lots of shoes to them in the past 12 plus years but their poor customer service just lost a loyal customer.

He put at least another 20 years of life into my leather coat! He also repaired the lining and replaced all the buttons! The value to me was getting to wear it in a new way. I brought in several pairs of scuffed boots and he told me that since they weren't real leather, they couldn't truly be repaired but that he could spruce them up for me. I went back a few hours later and they looked amazing and it only cost $18. Since I had such a good first experience, I went back several months later to have a dress zipper repaired. Alexandra's didn't have a ton of photos, but the language in previous reviews pointed me in their direction. The shop is co-located with a hair salon. I'm not sure if the hair salon keeps the same hours, but I posted a photo of Alexandra's hours here on Yelp. Double check before heading their way. They work SUPER hard to make alterations to your specifications. They will also make recommendations according to your garment's material(s) and what they have seen work and not work before. They have worked magic on my dresses, taken in jeans, and altered tops, hems, gowns, quilts, and more for me. They truly can do it all. The shop ladies are extremely friendly in a no-nonsense kind of way.....does that make sense? What I mean is - It seems like everyone in the area takes their items there, so they STAY busy. They have to stop working on their current project to help you, so it's usually less chit chat and more, "Go in and try it on." As I write this in 6/2025, I think the current return time os 8/2025. Keep in mind, June is right after prom season and right in the middle of wedding season. If I knew how to sew, I'd apply for part time basic work just to learn more from these ladies. The prices are reasonable. I always pay in cash as a nod to small business keeping more of monies earned. Lastly, check out my pictures of their seasonal "porch display." Most of the garments displayed are remnants of cloth these ladies fashioned into a dress. I KNOW the necklace paired with the winter dress was made with recycled buttons. I trained for a single 5k. This is no sport for me. But walking is a sport for me, and I have some minor foot issues, so I find myself at Big River once or twice a year. This location is in the charming retail and small business stretch of North & South in (or near??) U-City. The staff are helpful. They make sure to analyze your stance and movements. They look at the wear on your current shoes. They will order the shoes in different colors. I've never had to wait more than 15 minutes for service. Usually I don't have to wait at all.
