Very clean, well-organized store. I'm surprised at the reports of rude employees as everyone I dealt with was patient and cheerful. Only off-notes are that it's very apparent that they're under-staffed (par for course in COVID times) and that they're having problems keeping stock up for many items. The customer service at this store is the worst in all of the Academy Sports stores that I have ever visited in Texas. I never have been greeted and offered assistance with anything while in this store in Waco. Floor associates and their managers will pass right by you and not say a word. Cashiers are not unfriendly but never friendly on their best days. I am willing to pay more not to shop in this store. read more

I find this store organized, well staffed by patient cheerful people, stocked with items of high quality that I want and priced reasonably. I come here for end of season sales to try and score a brand name item at deep discount prices. Sometimes I find a gem here for less than other discount stores. Very busy, but store has good prices. You can carry firearms. No signs stopping you open, concealed, unlicensed or otherwise.

Top notch We went by the look at bikes and rollerblades. We were leaving when a 24" huffy girl bike was being brought in to the rack. The guy really helped us out and let us really check the bike out for a good 20min., he was able to answer a ton of questions for us, then helped us check/cash out, and then loaded the bike in our truck. He was patient, friendly, kind, helpful, real angel. We had also earlier bought some roller blades. Since I am a nurse/healthcare worker we also got an additional savings discount that we were not expecting-thank you academy. We love academy, lots of stock, from college shirts, and gear and everything else in between. Week before we bought our daughter a fishing pole to go fishing on fathers day-really good quality and good pricing-greatly appreciate the associates and the store being open. Week before that bought hubby good quality socks ordered online, then p/u in store within hours-hassle free. Academy has met a ton of my family needs during this covid time. First walked in. Lady at the door was super nice, other employees where cleaning. Store is super clean. I worked my way to the back side of the store where the hand guns are. Excited to purchase my second hand gun. Well that excitement was cut short because the guy who attended me DAN had the worst attitude ever. I don't deal well with people and bad attitudes especially working in a place where u have to attend a lot of costumers. So I did have to get a little rude as well. I would come here again maybe if I need to shop in another department but to gun shop and if he is here I rather go somewhere else. I'm actually writing this review as I stand here. I'm not the one to make things about race but myself and my buddies walk into Academy everyone at the front greeted us with a smile happy that we stop in. We made our way to the back to check out through firearm selection for my buddies bday gift. This is my go too store for ammo, hunting gear, and always get my new adidas here. Great staff, and prices. And recently I went in looking for a pellet gun(we have a big rat problem and traps don't work and can't fire a 10/22 in the city) So we went to get a pellet gun. Guy there was very helpful and pointed us in the right direction with awesome tips. The store is dirty, they have lots of selection but boxes are all over the floor, bikes are just out in the isles and clothes on the floor. I went there to buy a bike for college and when I got it back home the brakes didn't even work after I got going fast, do not shop at academy. read more

I came in Sunday 3/1/2020 to buy one of their 15' Jon boats went back to look at it and it looked like someone decided to scratch the hell out of it ask the manager hey man I'm paying $1300 for a brand new boat I'd like to be the first one to put a scratch or a gouge in it can you discount the price a little bit he was very rude. I went ahead and bought it since I had already been to the temple and Killeen store they didn't have one. Went around to the side and realized they sold the trailers that went with it he would not sell it to me because the ratchet was missing I explained to him I really didn't care I'd go inside and just buy a new one and go one so I didn't have to drive an hour back to temple to buy one. He said no it's against the law which is Bs he got extremely rude once again. I will not ever go back to that location again due to the poor management. I was spending close to $2000 at one time you would think they would be a lot more grateful. Went to the temple location to purchase the trailer and explained what happened in Waco and they said well since you had such a terrible experience there we will go ahead and give you a discount even though I never asked or expected a discount. Always good prices on name brand items. They do seem to have a limited number of employees but hey it helps keep the prices low. The staff is helpful and friendly. When shopping for a particular item I check availability on their web site before going. Upon entering the store I ask the employee at the door for help with that item it makes my trip fast and easy. read more

I wouldn't even give it one star. First of all, the greeters are rude. Every time I go I never get a "hello" or anything. I don't know if it's because I'm Hispanic because the white people behind me are greeted very nicely.This happens most of the time I shop at this store. Greeters needs to make everyone feel welcomed.The people on the floor are also very rude. When I ask them for help they always have an angry face like they don't want to be bothered. They are always in groups talking and not wanting to help customers. Most of the cashiers don't bother saying hi either. They have very bad customer service. read more
