The best outfitting store in the area! Mr. Scott was a true pleasure with whom to exchange ideas on fly fishing-- from needed gear to extreme conditions. His staff was absolutely the most team oriented group with all providing help and no one trying to be superhero know-it-all which happens way too often. Their prices can't be beat, and speaking from personal experience , it is a great escape from the drama of having horses and/or dogs in surgery at the best Vet Hospital in the world (totally unbiased as I am 3rd generation Longhorn). I ventured into Bear Mountain right after the holidays to get properly fitted for hiking boots before an overseas backpacking trip. I've done a bit of day hiking before, but never been professionally fitted or been on multi-day trips. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I could not have been more pleased. The staff was very friendly and knowledgable. The guy who helped me spent a lot of time answering questions and helping me be sure I got the best fit- and I ended up with a less expensive boot than I expected (which never happens). They had really good sales at that time, and I ended up coming back the next day to get a new pack. On the following day, I found an equally friendly and knowledgable staff. I went in trying to find a barefoot/minimalist running shoe, and they were very helpful! Lots of great information, help with picking the best shoe for my feet and needs, and very honest when it came to explaining what they were and weren't able to find for me, and where else I might be able to find it. Only downside might have been that the sales clerk, a minimalist runner herself, might not have been much of an expert on how to transition to minimalist/barefoot running, since I caught a few discrepancies between her advice and the professional advice I've been getting elsewhere, so be warned on that if you're looking at moving over to minimalist/barefoot running. But hey, they can't be complete experts on absolutely EVERYTHING, and it's not a "running store," anyway! (Brazos Running Company, the actual running store here in town, didn't carry minimalist/barefoot running shoes, and therefore didn't have any advice for me or selections to try on. Guess that's not a market they're looking to tap into.) I would definitely check them out for any adventure-related stuff in the future, too, because that's their primary focus, and I feel like the staff would be really knowledgeable and helpful in helping me choose the best gear. read more

I have really enjoyed going into Overlanders and coming out with better idea of what to look for in merchandise. Went in for the first time to look at a backpack that I had seen online. The young man that helped me (Sam) showed me backpack that I had gone in there to look at. After him asking questions and determining what I was looking for, he steered me to a completely different backpack which is for travel and not office or school.
