I showed a few different pictures hoping she could choose one that was realistic and worked with what I have, making it clear I don't really know or care what exactly I want done but overall just needed to lighten the roots even just a little bit kinda pull a little lightness up for a fresh and cleaner look. I told her I understand it's not going to be exactly like any of the pics or perfect in any way, but she wasn't willing to try anything.. literally asked me to leave, saying we're not a good fit. I was shocked. I asked if she could at least do something, like a few highlights or even just toner or SOMEthing, and that I would come back again so we could work toward my desired look little by little. She didn't even offer to blow dry it so I would at least have nice hair for my event, she just kicked me out because I didn't have an exact specific thing I wanted done, or I guess it wasn't clear enough to her. I was forced to leave the salon with the same frizzy salon-day-just-woke-up-hair/ ready-to-get-my-hair-done hair, which completely ruined my plans for the day and the weekend as now I have to make time to wash and style and do my own hair on a very tight schedule. In Boston, I would pay a boat load of money on Newbury Street and walk out of the salon looking like a news anchor from the '80s. While I found an incredible stylist in Portland at a high-end salon, it was rough shelling out $75 every few weeks on a haircut. One day, my luck changed - I couldn't get in with my normal stylist, so I took a chance on Jenna - and I haven't looked back since! Aside from being personable, laid back, and a downright hoot to hang out with, Jenna is an awesome stylist who makes me feel like a million bucks every time I leave Zen. She always takes the time to have a conversation about what I'm looking for in a haircut - from how long I want to devote to styling it each day to whether or not I'll need to pull it back when I go to the gym - and I've never been disappointed. I have an angled bob cut that requires a lot of precision, and she's right on every time. Not only is she a master with the scissors, she does an incredible job coloring, as well. Just recently, she gave me a great overall color with partial highlights and it turned out beautifully and lasted thanks to her shampoo recommendations. While Jenna's prowess when it comes to styling is bar none, the cherry on top is that she's affordable. It doesn't cost me an arm and a leg to get my hair done and that's just another reason to add to my list of why I am hooked. He is so amazing at a wide variety of haircuts and coloring. We are going to work in gray hair in a sexy way my next visit. I can hardly wait! The whole staff is amazing.
