Stopped in for Sunday dinner. I was surprised how quiet it was for 6:00 but I also felt like my table was off to a quiet side, thanks. Jackson was My friendly and helpful server as we discussed the menu. I appreciated his honesty when I asked about the Taco Salad... "wasn't my favorite". So we discussed what were some of his go-to's. After looking at his and browsing the menu I asked what he thought of the Acapulco Bowl and the Chilaquilles(sp?). He said the Acapulco Bowl was pretty popular, so I opted for hat with chicken and the pico on the side. When Jackson circled back I told him "this isn't good...it is sooooo good!! Perfect for the upcoming summer season when you maybe don't want a hot burrito, more of a cool refreshing salad! After a few bites I dumped the salsa all over the salad as well. I am looking forward to having the rest for lunch today! After decades of a burrito I have a new go-to. I wasn't expecting anything special with this chain restaurant. We had a coupon so we decided to go. From the moment we walked in the door we were impressed. The hostess, waitress and food runners were friendly and professional. We were seated and they brought us chips and salsa as well as taking our drink orders. I ordered an Acapulco bowl. My husband had cheese enchiladas and a choice of sides. He chose black beans and a side salad. We really liked the food. My one complaint is having the refried beans on the top of the bowl because they are much less attractive than what was underneath. Our coupon was sitting on the table and our waitress took the money off immediately. We really had great service, we liked the food and it's a really nice looking space. We visited Acapulco in Ramsey this week. I have been craving their seafood chimichanga for a while, it used to be delicious. Well, not anymore, no shrimp, just fishy fish. It was horrible. My first visit to this restaurant was great. Famous cheese was delicious and flavorful. Margaritas was the best. I went a second time within the same week and expecting the same delicious food but it was the worse. I had dried food on the outside of my glass. It should be noted that at 8:30 on a Friday night they will start closing the restaurant all around you, making sure you know you aren't welcome. Servers coming up and asking for the complete bill, tables being taken down and chairs being put up. They'll keep coming to you asking to take things away. Got it, we're leaving. We would have stayed because we had the cover of a babysitter. I'd like to ask them if the chicken or egg came first. Maybe the fact you're shutting the restaurant down at 8:30 on a Friday is the reason you can't justify staying open. I probably would go to Chanticlear in the same area, who lets you stay and enjoy the company of friends. This is a place that 100% values saving costs over the community. Hubby and I came in on a Mon. about 3:15pm or so. Personable server (older guy, we thot might be manager) quickly greeted and seated us with Chips & salsa and queso We looked at lunch menu then saw it ended 3pm. No worries to us. Server came to take order (we ordered from dinner menu). He asked if we wanted from lunch menu, .".can we?." "absolutely"... Great attitude! We've been several times and never disappointed. Food is AMAZING I really suggest the chimichanga with extra queso it is the most MAGICAL dish I've had. Okay maybe that's a little dramatic but it still is good even the plain simple and cheap tacos I suggest the chicken but beef is pretty good as well. And next the service, the service is pretty good and someone will be there within 5 minutes or less and you get your food within 15 minutes. The final subject is Ambiance. I'm glad that Acapulco can still operate during COVID, however, my delivery order was a huge disappointment. I ordered 3 tacos and by the time they arrived, everything was not only cold but a total mess. My taco shells turned into mush, which turned into me eating my tacos with a fork. Average Mexican food with disinterested staff and what seems like good Management. To be clear, there's nothing really bad about the food. It's not awesome or terrible. It's about what I expected. Our server when I was here in March seemed completely uninterested in service. She acted bored, barely smiled, and forgot several things like drink refills and side of queso for an entree (which we never got). Upon paying at the end of the meal, a Manager asked how things were. Something wasn't drained well enough. Gross! They brought me a correct beef burrito. Again, really bad. The burrito was super small and I could hardly find the beef--cheap, cheap, cheap! They even screwed up my coffee! I asked our server if they had fresh coffee and he told me he'd make a fresh pot. Great, at least some decent coffee! When it came, it was the most horrible battery acid I'd ever tasted! When I told him it was bad, he informed me that it came "fresh" out of a "machine". Glad they are up and running but, maybe a few improvements could be made. The status of my order said it was ready and waiting for delivery for over 40 mins. Had I known this was potentially what might happen, I would have picked it up myself. Maybe knowing this is a possibility they may want to consider using some parchment paper and separating wet and dry ingredients for delivery. My burrito was good. The steak was tender and flavorful. Acapulco brings the flavor! This is my new favorite spot to grab a quick dinner. I wish we lived closer. I highly recommend the 5 layer dip for an appetizer, or maybe even as your meal if you fill up quick. I'm getting excited just thinking about it! It's usually pretty busy here, which means service can take awhile, but the food is worth the wait. It also has high ceilings, which means it's on the louder side, but that's great for people with kids who are worried about disrupting other patrons! Prices are very fair, and portions are epic. So I got an invite to be a VIP for Twin Cities Live TV program and we had a buffet luncheon with the cast and crew. first off, the food was very good, not necessarily the greatest Mexican food ever but in the top 20%. Great Mexican food and best in the area. Love the Carne Asada and gotta have the pomegranate margarita! The menu changes seasonally and always has some family favorites. Quality meat and veggies. My husband had the steak fajita burrito, also very good. Again, quality steak and the portions are way more than enough! Our son had grilled chicken tacos. Again, quality, white meat chicken, nice presentation of the plate, and full of flavor. We enjoyed the Sangria Margarita and a regular Frozen Margarita. When we get this we usually get the nachos compuestas to share. They're okay, something different than fast food close by. Twice we have gotten something different and been so disappointed! Last time we both got the choose 2. I got a beef enchilada, totally boring, and a chile relleno which had an odd taste, was dripping some kind of clear liquid, and you could see the slices of white queso so it had never melted. Got usual rice and refried on the side that was uninspiring. BF got 2 tiny beef soft shell tacos and they forgot the pico de gallo and salsa verde. They were tasteless, but he liked the rice and the side salad was very nice. Got the bag of chips and 1/4 cup of salsa with it which was just enough for him to have some sauce on his dry tacos. We have been going here for years and the food and service and declined drastically! Tonight we went for dinner and the service was horrible! We waited 40 minutes for food and our server was rude and could have cared less. No dishes were ever cleared and 15 minutes for a drink. Food was mediocre at best and we were missing items but never checked on until after we finished eating. I start off by saying that I have been going to Acapulco for as long as they have been open in both Coon Rapids and Ramsey. Went there for dinner tonight and order a Chicken/Rice and vegetable dish. Not typically what I would order. The Vegetables were rotten to the point that I had to remove them from my plate because they smelt so bad. (I foolishly tasted them also). I handed the plate that I put the vegetables on to the server and said they are rotten, Smell them, and the response was Not would you re-like me to remake the whole dish, but can I get you some rice (I already have rice thanks). When I got the bill is was surprised that they did not discount my meal at least $1 for the rotten vegetables. I decided to talked to the manager and his words were "I did not know what table it came from" , It seems like that is his job. I'm Shock after this many years of gong here that they were unwilling to solve this until I made an issues of it. It will be a long time before I go bake here. read more
