This review has been long overdue because Riviera Maya is one of my top 5 favorite places to eat when I can't decide what I want and need a filling meal. My top favorite dishes: - "QUESABIRRIA TACOS"!!! If you come for NOTHING else, the Quesabirria tacos are the only thing you should strongly consider stopping by for. Stuffed to the brim with tender, shredded, slow-cooked beef and cheese, served with a hearty consomé for dipping, these Quesabirria tacos will brighten anyone's cloudy day. If you're looking at the menu and nothing speaks to you, want to try something new, are in the mood for a comfort meal, or just want to guarantee a solid meal, the Quesabirria tacos are your fool-proof option. - "Enchiladas Tapatias". My backup dish if I'm not in the mood for Quesabirria tacos is these stuffed chicken enchiladas, covered in a cheese sauce. Served with rice, refried beans, lettuce, tomato & sour cream, this dish is a cheesy, gooey, delicious bite, every time. -"Taquitos Mexicanos". Four deep-fried taquitos stuffed with chicken or beef, served with guac, lettuce, tomato & sour cream. You won't find these bad boys anywhere else but in the appetizers section. If you blink twice, you might miss it. If you're not too hungry, this is a great, "light" option that's both filling and high protein ;-) -"Family Style 15 Street Tacos". This is a meal my family consumes at least once a month. It's practical, filling, and leaves leftovers! For $40, you get 15 corn tortilla tacos (your choice of protein), rice, refried beans, guacamole, chips, salsa, cilantro, & onion. If you need a meal for a group of 4-6, this is a phenomenal option. There are several other family-style options (including Margarita Mix ), ranging from $20-$50, available, but I've only tried & returned for the street tacos. -"Beergarita". This margarita with a twist is served with an upside-down 7 oz. Corona. Refreshing and stiff, this signature drink is a fun option to try with any meal. Riviera Maya is a delightful family-owned restaurant. The service is exceptional. Our family is always treated with the best care and attention. Find a different mid Mexican restaurant to patronize. Server was terrible. She got my drink AND my food wrong. Wasn't a difficult order by any means She simply didn't listen to what I ordered AT ALL, nor did she write it down. Another guy blamed it on that "she was very busy". We unintentionally went during chalk week, so they were very busy. It was clear they were pretty overwhelmed and the service and food quality were affected by that. Complimentary chips and salsa to start. They were fine. Chips were salty. Salsa was meh. Carne asada burrito was fine. Its basically just steak and grilled onions in a tortilla with cheese sauce on top. California burrito was supposed to have fries inside but they weren't there. We did say something and they brought a side of fries but they were cold once they arrived. Shrimp ceviche was good. Decent flavor. We were also mistakenly given a shrimp cocktail. We did give it a try. There were alot of shrimp. Flavor was ok. Standard midwest Mexican American food. Basic, one note flavors. Our server was kind and they were all trying their hardest given how busy it was. Main reason we went in the first place was because we had a coupon. I don't think we'll go back. read more

Our waitress Milka was fantastic! Kind, respectful, interactive, helpful! She was on top of things and in a Friday night when the place was busy! Kudos and we appreciated the guidance and friendliness! We also appreciated the cook/server! He brought our dinner and dessert out. Awesome service! Quite honestly. The 3 staff we interacted with were all great, and that's rare nowadays! Kudos...all working hard and our food was served hot so fast during a busy time. We visited about 3 months ago abd drove here, bypassing others just because it wascan upbeat atmosphere, music, clean, and SO friendly plus great food and service so we wanted to go again. A favorite now in Maple Grove!! BTW, the chips and guacamole are homemade and i suspect the salsa is too. Perfect! Cant go wrong here. We will be back. Thank you Milka, you made our night. A great neighborhood Mexican restaurant! The restaurant is cozy and colorful and the service was exceptional. Their menu has everything! The portions are decent and a great value. We enjoyed the chimichangas and enchiladas tres. All very tasty, my only critique is that I didn't really like their chips- they were a little too thick and stale for me. I guess I prefer the thin and crispy style, but the salsa was fresh. We will be back! read more

So let's just get to the important parts... I went here with 3 other people: Pros: -Service was good and friendly. My party was originally sat in a very high traffic area and when we asked if we could move they were very accommodating. -Larger portions -Salsa and chips brought to table right away! -Frozen daiquiri was very tasty! Cons: -Chips and salsa were average. They do not taste like they are made in house, lacking flavor... -Birria tacos had very little meat and the meat that was present was very try. The sauce to dip was lacking flavor as well and the tacos were very greasy. -The decor feels cheesy and cheap. -They just up'ed their prices and have stickers all over their menus to show the increase. -Bathrooms not cleaned and floors around the restaurant were sticky. -Hostess seemed annoyed she had to seat us. Never smiled or talked, just grabbed menus and started walking. Overall I will not be back to this restaurant. It is a very average place and there are just better Mexican restaurants around with better taste and bang for your buck! read more

The service was average. They got our drinks and brought out the customary chips and salsa. The chips were warm and good. I really enjoyed the salsa. It was a thicker tasty restaurant type. The portions are huge here, so be prepared. My wife and youngest daughter ordered the burritos and these things were like a foot long and very full of meat and beans. My oldest daughter got chicken with rice covered in Queso. It looked awesome. My son got the seafood with fajita vegetables. It looked good too. read more

We take my elderly mother to different restaurants in the Maple Grove area for Sunday outings and lunches. I noticed this Mexican restaurant across the street when at Broadway Pizza the previous week and decided to try it this week. What a pleasant surprise! Great decor, friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere. We ordered the Isaiah Plate and Carne Asada Fries appetizers, easily enough for three along with the complimentary chips and salsa that were served immediately upon seating. This is hands down the best Mexican place I've ever been to. The food is authentic and fresh, excellent portions, extraordinary flavor, and fun menu items. The ambience is fantastic, every booth/chair is hand-painted with a beautiful mural and the overall vibe is great. Maybe the best thing about this place is the service. Every time I go here, I'm greeted with a smile and I feel like my presence is valued here. The food usually comes out within less than ten minutes after ordering (most of the time in less than five), and comes out as perfection every time. This is a place I would come to if I was having a bad day and just wanted to feel better about life. 10/10 would recommend any day. read more

They had a nice lunch menu and a full menu too. I ended up ordering the fajita taco salad after a conversation with my waiter about that vs a regular taco salad. It came in a shell with warm beans at the bottom and warm fajitas peppers, chicken and lettuce on top. A bargain at something like $14! We were a group of 7 or so women and think he was the only waiter, but we were adequately kept in water and drinks, and he gracefully gave us all separate checks. The food was pretty average. We got takeout today and wanted to try a new place. The fish tacos were not very exciting. It was battered and fried as stated but lacked seasoning. It didn't come with lettuce, which I was expecting based on the menu description. The pico de gallo that came with it wasn't anything special either. Also, a couple of the limes looked used. The rice and beans were just okay as well. The cheese was kind of its own entity, but I'll chalk that one up to being takeout and had cooled. My SO got the shrimp a la diabla dish. He thought this one was decent but not anything special. It wasn't as spicy as I thought it would be. It was missing the tortillas, but fortunately we had some in our fridge at home. This place was nice enough, it was overall clean and quiet. We came on a Saturday afternoon and no one was really there. The bar and set up is nice. There is a sign advising cash is appreciated due to credit card fees when you walk in. Our server was friendly. Complimentary chips and salsa arrived almost immediately as we were seated. Chips needed salt but the salsa was good. It could have used a tad more spice for me. The drinks were very strong, but not the best flavor wise. The elote looked nothing like the photos. It was not covered well with the mayo and cheese, also needed way more Tajín. We got chicken and seafood enchiladas, both were decent but I've had better for sure. Also want to mention our dinner plates were both stained and chipped on the corners. I don't think I've ever encountered this when eating out. All in all, this place is average and fine in a pinch but plenty better Mexican places in the same area. read more

The worst Mexican restaurant ever! This garbage is what these morons call a chile rellenos. That's a f***ing omelette wrapped around a chile. There online menu states three rellenos for 12.99. We get there, order for take out, they come with the food and a bill for $18.00. They would not honor the online menu price. read more

I avoided this place for a long time due to a lack of curb appeal, but I was so wrong! The inside transports you straight to another place, with a beach and some sunshine. The food and ambiance were great, same with the drinks and service. Ordered a burrito and it was big enough to share. I'm honestly surprised at the high overall rating, because what we experienced was mediocre at best. At arrival you're met with a handwritten sign asking for guests to pay in cash as credit fees are high. Ok, I get that but the easiest and more professional way to handle this is to add the cost into the prices. It's an operating cost. The best of the night was the staff. From the host to the waiters to runners, everyone was super friendly. I also thought the decor was nice. For the food, there are better Tex-Mex options near by. We had the Queso and chips, Ribeye Fajitas and Burrito California. The queso, while tasty, was super runny and oily from the Chorizo. The chips were clearly not made in house. The ribeye was unseasoned and the burrito was dry. We did enjoy the side rice and refried beans. I also ordered the Patron margarita and it was light on the alcohol and heavy on the pre-mixed artificial taste. I don't plan to go back. read more

Was here yesterday for dinner and drinks. The margarita was really bad esp after paying nearly $12 for it . We asked them to do it better and they came back with just a bunch more jalapeños l. The enchiladas were also runny and not great to taste. The fajita was excellent. All in all, a decent place for takeout and if you want drinks just stick to Beer. I just flew in from California where we have some of the best Mexican food. Every dish that my family ordered was delicious. I got the enchilada poblana. The mole sauce was amazing. This restaurant is wonderful and authentic. Service was spot on. This location has not been able to keep businesses for long over the last couple years so I really hope people support this one. We went here planning to have a meal, but decided to leave after a bit. The food I did have was decent. I liked taquitos and my marg quite a bit. The elote looked nothing like the picture in the menu or any elote I've enjoyed before. It was way to much cheese. What I didn't enjoy about this spot was the server standing in the corner watching us the whole time we ate. I felt like I could enjoy my meal. Their were only two tables in the restaurant, but being watched like a hawk is uncomfortable while trying to enjoy a meal. That is why we didn't proceed with ordering a full meal.
