Haven't visit this establishment for years and wanted to go back and try it. Was very disappointed. There were only 2 other people in the restaurant which should have been a red flag. Reviewed the menu and ALL THE PRICES were hidden. We order an enchilada and a quesadilla and we added rice and beans and each item showed up on our bill for $19.95 each. The server should have explained the upcharge and we wouldn't have been surprised. The food was fine but not worth the money. Sorry but we won't be back and there are many other Mexican restaurants that are much better food and cheaper too. Not sure how they stay in business. read more

Not authentic by any means but on the plus side, I've never gotten food poisoning from here. They could use some updates, the menus haven't had prices listed on them for over a year. The restrooms seem to be fairly recently renovated and well kept. Mar is kind as are the rest of the staff. Long time Mexican resident in the St Ann area that continues to serve up delicious food and drinks at a reasonable price. They have a full bar, pool table and on certain nights they have live music. Chips are hot and crisp served with a tasty salsa while you wait for your food. Service is great and the food is fresh and delicious. Definitely worth visiting and helping a family run business stay in business. read more

Everyone standing around not paying attention to tables. Never got a chip refill even though the waitress came by our table once maybe twice the whole time we were there. Food took FOREVER and all we ordered was nachos with chicken. When the food did arrive the cheese was old looking and dried up as if it was sitting under the heat lamp for 20 min. I used to frequently come here but I've noticed over the past couple of years the quality and service has just disappeared. Don't know if it's due to lack of management which is no where to be seen or the lack of business and they are on the way to closing the doors (which would be the best thing to do). read more

I gave them 3 stars, although the food was delicious. The chips & salsa were excellent as well. The server was overly attentive, which wasn't necessarily a bad thing. She quietly came to our table about every 5 minutes to check on us. I had 3 negative issues. 1. At every Mexican restaurant, they automatically put chips & salsa on your table. These are unlimited. At Acapulco, the 1ST basket is complimentary but they charge you for a 2ND basket of chips, if you finish the 1ST one. The basket they gave us was very skimpy. 2. I understand that restaurant establishments have to pay a small fee when diners use a credit card card. All restaurants factor that in. At Acapulco, there was actually a 3% additional charge because we used a credit card. 3. I don't drink alcohol often, plus this was lunch. My drink of choice is seltzer water. 90% of the restaurants I go to don't charge for the shelter water, because it's really just water with a little carbonation in it. If they do charge, it's a small amount, & I understand. Acapulco charged me $3.80 for one glass of seltzer water. That is outrageous. read more

Third time here and the last. No prices on the menu, staff was barely alive and made no effort to provide a good experience. I had the burrito plate and couldn't tell the difference between any of the three meats. Beans and rice were cold. Something was in between two of my burritos that I could not identify. Was it an onion or a shrimp or something gross. And up-charges for everything. Fifty cents for frozen Vs regular margs. Seventy five cents for flavors. A buck for Mexican beef Vs ground beef (absolutely now difference) and the topper was a three percent up charge for using a debit card. Unbelievable.. I hope the owners get even dime and quarter from other suckers because they won't be getting any of mine. Word of advice just go somewhere else. read more

Thursday's are our Mexican food night. We decided to try Acapulco's this week. All I can say is they will definitely make the rotation. I had the tamales which were moist and flavorful. Their beans are the best refried beans I have had locally. My boyfriend had the Mexican Ribeye Thursday special. He ate every bite. The service was great too. They took very good care of us. This was my first visit to Acapulco ever, and it did not disappoint! The house margaritas are exceptional, the specialty shots are tasty, and the food was fantastic. The lunch special chimi was flavorful and well-proportioned, and I was impressed that both the rice and beans had flavor (it is my experience that many Mexican restaurants don't put much thought into those basic sides). If I could give them zero stars I would. From the moment we started ordering, our server had to be helped and changed two times. The server himself couldn't understand the pricing on the menu and had to ask for help from someone behind the bar multiple times. We had ordered michelada, it did not taste as if there were any alcohol in it. Another one of our drinks, an horchata came in as if they made it from powder. Which isn't a problem, but the fact that they hadn't mixed it correctly, there were pockets of powder with ice in the drink, shows how much they care about their customers and what they receive. We also waited over 40 minutes just for an order of three. Two tacos, one taco(children's menu) with a side of beans, and one torta. It wasn't a busy day, 5 in the afternoon on a Sunday. And when the food was finally brought, we had to send them back. Only thing that seemed to be alright was the torta. Our first order of two tacos was brought as one singular taco, no lime, cilantro or salsa with it, just the meat and tortilla. The second order, the meat was undercooked, it was red and definitely not suitable to eat, especially for a child. We ended up canceling the rest of the order after sending the food back. It didn't seem like the servers nor cooks cared about the customers and the quality of the food that they were serving. I'm not planning on coming back, with or without my kids in fear of getting food poisoning or worse. 0/5 I hope they improve from these mistakes and actually reflect on their reviews and customers critiques. read more

We used to dine at Acapulco often several years ago when we lived in that area. After moving. We found a mexican restaurant that was closer to us that we frequented. We were recently in the area and decided to give Acapulco a try and we were happy we did! We have been back several times since. Each time ordering something different each time. With one exception, tamales. They are awesome!! We have not been disappointed in any meal we have ordered. The mexican pork dinner, carne asada, #1 macho platter, #7 Sergio's special, are a few things we have tried. All are great. And don't forget to try the homemade tamales. I don't think you will find a better tamale! Everything is full of flavor. The servers we have taken care of us great. If you are looking for a fancy meal at fancy restaurant. I will NEVER return to this restaurant. I tried Acapulco because I bought a Groupon for them. There were two distinct Groupon deals, one was $10 for $20 worth of food and drinks and the other deal was $18 for a Mexican meal for two which included two entrees and two margaritas. I bought the Groupon for the Mexican meal for two. When I told the waitress that I had a Groupon, she told me that I could only order from selected entrees, which was not specified on the Groupon. I didn't complain and just went along with it. My boyfriend and I ate our food, which was decent, but not the best. I don't understand why I have to pay an extra $1.00 for sour cream. I can buy a 16 oz container of Sour Cream from the grocery store for that price. Plus, they used cheddar cheese instead of a Mexican cheese such as Chihuahua, which is a sure sign of a lack of authenticity. The problems arose when it was time for me to pay the bill. First of all, the manager came over to my table to ask me to see the Groupon on my phone as I was taking a bite out of my chalupa. Instead of waiting until I was finished eating, her and the waitress stood there until I retrieved my phone out of my purse. I explained to her that I bought the Mexican meal for two Groupon instead of the $10 for $20. About 5 minutes later, she returned to my table asking me what deal I had bought. I had to explain to her at least another two times that I bought the Mexican meal for two. Apparently, she still didn't understand because my waitress brought me a bill which included two entrees and two margaritas. As a business owner/manager, she should completely understand promotions that her business offers through daily deals websites. Her behavior was completely unprofessioal. I give the food a 3-star rating, but the poor service brings the rating down to 1-star. read more

We'll begin with the idea that "authentic" fare is a subjective term and if this is something that you think needs to be defined by food "critics" and the pros, well, I think that I can save you some time. This it not a place interested in "wowing" you with decadent, frivolous amenities. The chairs and tables, booths and barstools are purely functional, with old-school vinyl and that "classic" feels-like-it-needs-a-serious-update to the decor. And that may be true. Since we were first-timers, our first impressions were, "well, hopefully the food isn't as rustic as the decor..." It was a Sunday night, 7ish, before Labor Day, and maybe that's why there weren't many people there. We sat ourselves in a booth between a family one side, and a couple on the other. As some other reviewers had mentioned, the jukebox was in full swing with music I don't ever listen to, and really didn't want to hear then but, what's one to do? There were a couple of men playing pool by the jukebox, and four or five people were at the bar. So first impression(s) were not all that favorable. Not really. And now is a good time to mention that we were there for an amazing Groupon deal, which I think, had we not had, we would have passed the place. Until we got to meet Mike, our server. Want to talk about welcoming, pleasant, and cheerful? Well, that's what we got. Not just the usual wait-staff minimum greeting too often associated with dining out but, he cared. Since this was our first time, he took the time to answer every one of our questions and more, was willing to explain some things about the various differences we noticed on the menu in terms of the various meat offerings. In the end, we ordered a couple of combos and a jumbo margarita. Because of Mike, things were looking up. Cut to the chase... Food? Plentiful, rich and friggin' tasty. How's that for descriptive? The owner is from Oaxaca, Mexico, so that's pretty darn "authentic" for you purists and more, it didn't seem like they "dumbed" it down too much for persnickety American palettes. In the end, if you can get past the decor, the jukebox and your own sense of what "should be", you may find that the food and the service MORE than makeup for any perceived shortcomings. Will we go back? Yep. As a side note, every server in the place was warm and welcoming and we know this, because we pretty much talked to them all... Freshly made chips and salsa. Enchilada's are perfectly made with an incredible sauce. Fajita's have more than expected steak and seafood to make them. Service is incredible. Worst experience I've had at a restaurant. Waitress was friendly but, food was wrong with every person. Didn't bring food in timely manner. All bill tabs were wrong. Some food didn't show up correctly or at all. She didn't adjust the bill correctly. Got charged for something that was taken off the food that was listed on menu. Waitress and manager on duty on a Saturday( stated she was general manager)are racist and refused to help the customer with their issues. We were had a group and nobody had good service waitress was preoccupied. She didn't care to try and fix her multiple mistakes, manager refused to be helpful to anyone in the party. Had a groupon. I seem to remember this place in a different location along the Rock road years back, and it was small, but seemed like you were in a mexican restaurant. Didn't get that feeling really at this one. Server was a 20 something guy that had worked there in the past and was back, but he seemed to be struggling quite a bit. He was super sweet and apologized a lot for his shortcomings so that was nice. Food was really just so so. Not blown away by it. It didn't seem like a very clean place either. Our menus were sticky. The lighting is dreary and decorations sad. While we were there a guy came into the place with his bike and parked it in the door way area. He went to the bar and sat and we were fairly certain he was drunk because he spilled something from the bar (salsa maybe) and barely turned around to look at it, and then left it there. Nobody seemed to be bothered by the drunk guy or his bike. Strange experience I guess and one that makes me think that I don't need to go back. The food was not bad, it just wasn't great and I really like to have atmosphere and this place is doesn't have it. read more

I thought the food here was really good. Their salsa is by far my favorite in St. louis. I got the tacos with fried flour shell. I dont know if ive had a better taco in St. louis .I cant wait to go back and get more. Even the beans and rice were really delicious.
