From seeing "Scampi" on their Instagram, to communicating about her and coming in to meet her, we had a great experience. No pressure was put on us to take her home, they let us spend time with her downstairs and let us get to know her, which made us more confident in our ability to make the right decision for her and for us. Clearly we elected to take the chance and make her a part of our family - and nearly five months later, she has become an integral member of our little pack. Despite her early story being unknown and having had babies before she was taken in by Street Tails (by way of ACCT), she's seemingly a happy and healthy little one who just didn't get to live her best life soon enough. We are happy to give her just that - but we have Street Tails to thank for allowing us to be her paw-rents. I would definitely adopt from them again when we are ready to add to our fur family.

I see from the other reviews, though, that they're still doing what they do best. And surely they must be doing it well. I adopted my baby girl, my floppy lap cat, Sydney, AKA Flirty McFlirtster (she loves human males with beards), from Morris in 1998. She was just a wee lass, a tiny kitten, but already spayed because someone adopted her (a week before I met her) and returned her due to allergies. Phooey to that guy! And you know what? My little tramp is still kickin' it, managing our household from the windowsill on a daily basis, nary a health problem. Sometimes I think I should turn on a red light, make her start contributing to the bills and stuff. (Cats, they're so lazy.) Thanks, Morris, for introducing me to my best buddy, my special girl.

Enter through the front entrance as some of the entrances there are signs up that it is private resident living (assuming it is a shared property or perhaps one of people that helps run it live in that unit). You wIll be greeted by the person working the phone and computer system and they will inform you cats on the first door on your left and straight back for the dogs. When I first walked through to greet the dogs and give them some love and them me my heart sank a bit as it definitely looks and feels like they need a home to fill up the love. I tried to pet all of them, approx eight to ten dogs total. Seriously thinking of getting more involved as my favorite charity and probably only charity I donate to be honest is for animal welfare. If you can spread some hugs, towels, clean linens, animal beds, unopened pet food, or a monetary donation it will go a long way and I appreciate you supporting a cause close to my heart. The groomer had no idea what we meant when we asked for a flea or tick treatment and asked "your dog has fleas?" - after we clarified that we just wanted preventive flea/tick treatment and they still didn't seem to understand, we told them to forget it - we were charged for it anyway. They also attempted to stuff our dog in a cage at first while she waited, even though we made an appointment under the assumption she would be groomed shortly after. Anyone that works with dogs knows and understands that some dogs don't do cages, this groomer seemed to have no clue. Then they said we could pick her up two hours later. When we asked why so long they backtracked. The worst part was picking her up only to find her nails weren't trimmed and that she still had grass stains on her face! When I called to speak to the owner she did not identify herself until halfway through the call and was extremely combative. She asked for pictures which I sent immediately and even she acknowledged that the nails weren't trimmed but still continued to fight with me, conferencing in the groomer on the call? Absolutely nuts. She blamed me for not speaking up more when picking up the dog when all I wanted to do was get her out of there. For the record, they claimed to have trimmed all but one nail and then when confronted they claimed they couldn't cut her nails without causing her to bleed - something we've had done monthly to date at actually qualified establishments. An overall terrible experience for both me and my dog. The owner was rude and combative and the groomer seems to have no idea what they're doing. Do yourself a favor and read the most recent reviews and stay away.

I was only talking about the red head woman who checked me out who seemed patient and informative. The rest of staff was horrible and discriminatory. Please my review on their Yelp. No one has reviewed them in over a year so if they take it down this is what I posted today: "Denied adoption of a beautiful kitty on 12/6/24 simply because the kitty had Feline HIV. I believe her name was Snow and she was grey. The women who denied her adoption to me had a less feminine look and it felt as if she was trying to intimidate me or coerce me to violence even though I showed no aggression. The blond woman who was at front desk when you first walk in got up and walked away from the desk without saying a work to me during checkout. I feel she was very disrespectful yet I remained calm and cooperative. I would hate to feel as though I was discriminated against for my race for being more "aggressive" as I did not discriminate against the brunette woman who denied me my first pick kitten for her possible sexuality. Neither racial or sexual orientation discrimination is right yet I felt racial on my end with no disrespect to either women. The red head woman who had to finish my checkout was much kinder and made me feel better about adopting my second choice Shadow. Both the brunette and blonde seemed much nicer to the Caucasian couple that came in as I was leaving who there to pick up foster kittens. Everyone should be treated equally whether race, sexual orientation or disability. They also should not be denied an adoption due to feline hiv as it is very treatable. No matter who you are you should not support this behavior nor allow it to continue. Please report any notes of this even if you are on the fairer side of treatment. "

I reached out to PAWS hoping to adopt or foster a cat--offering a safe, loving home in a city…read moreoverwhelmed by strays--and was met with a cold, dismissive response. I was told they "don't recommend" adopting a cat to help with a mouse problem, and that they "can't help" me. That was it. I understand not all cats are mousers. That's not the point. The point is that I wanted to give a cat a better life, and PAWS didn't show an ounce of interest in that. For an organization that spays/neuters animals and puts them back on the street, you'd think they'd be eager to find permanent homes--especially for cats who might be a good fit for natural pest control. If you're looking to adopt with care and intention, I'd recommend finding a rescue that actually values people who want to help.
