GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!! They are so wonderful! And it's a pleasure working with them. They may be a bit on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for... that's quality! Came in one evening for a pair of sunglasses (because I sat on mine on accident, of course and they broke). The man there found glasses that really fit and looked nice on my face. After picking out a cheap pair of glasses myself from Costco that made me look 15 years older, I finally decided to drive 1 hour back into my favorite business to relive the time in my life that I had the perfect glasses for my face (and tricky prescription). As far as I'm concerned, Eva is the 'glasses whisperer' picking out glasses that I adore and that I reach for instead of my contacts. The team at AOE is technically excellent crafting them to perfection. Are they more expensive? - yes - but for something I wear all day every day it makes sense to invest my money in something beautiful, comfortable and that I love that I'll reach for every morning. read more

Accent on Eyewear is a fabulous local gem in the heart of downtown Menlo Park. Mary our Optician was very knowledgeable optically, as well with styling and fit. She also had great suggestions for frames (always important), as they know their stock best, and was very friendly and welcoming to me and my friend who is looking for new glasses. They carry a wide selection of the best high end frames in the industry, listed on their website... and they have been in business more than 30+ years!!! I was wearing my new l.a.Eyeworks, and the Owner of the store who had seen me, immediately recognized that they are a revival of the beautiful BONDO made in the early '90s which they sold! Loved that, a great recollection and history! I've been an Optician myself for 20+ years, so of course I appreciated that and can tell when a shop knows what they are doing... They also have a finishing lab on site (not like a LensCrafters situation, a real finishing lab!), which is VERY important when working with beautiful and often challenging to make lenses!... There is always more technical skill which is absolutely crucial when it comes to many brands, for ALL really, but certain frames, many labs don't even have the proper equipment, experience or accuracy and precision... so sadly going to less seasoned Opticians, you probably will end up with less than perfect lenses both aesthetically and optically! As an Optician who learned from the BEST, I could see their attention to detail to ALL the many facets of being fitted for glasses, were of great importance, and those are the traits of great Opticians!!! bought two prescription glasses from the Lady owner cost over 2K. one is for driving and the other is for computer at work. the diving one I used for two weeks and left it in the car one day. when I used after, I can't see anything using it, in fact I can see better without the glasses. I took it back to the store, the guy (owner) told me that I need to go see my dr because my vision has adjusted. told him in two week that makes no sense. than he said you must of scratched the glass. told him I didn't . I placed it in the in car after driving. than he said that's why, you should never leave it in the car. i told him that i leave all my glass (didn't cost me as much) in the car, and I never had this issue. Also told him in less than a minute you have given me 3 reason why the glass don't work which is it? At the end he took the glass it to fix it (he was not happy about it), and told me that he will call when it's ready . it has been 3 month, and no call yet. read more

Whatever you do, don't call them and ask them if they carry certain frames or if they can order them for you. Instead of a polite yes or no, the woman I spoke with gave me a speech about how it's ridiculous to ask such a question over the phone. "There are so many other factors that are involved with selection...blahblah...how many stores have you called asking for prices already anyway? We don't do this unless you're serious...blah blah." I was ready to fork over $500 for frames (and probably another $200 for lenses. I had already been fitted elsewhere, and knew the size and exactly what I wanted. Unfortunately, my doctor didn't carry the Robert Marc frames I wanted. Instead of calling Robert Marc, I went to their website to find a local seller. All she had to do was politely say, "Yes, I can order it for you since we don't have it in stock." Instead, their speech cost them a $700 sale, and a negative review. I understand the frustration of bricks and mortars competing with ecommerce, but this relationship building doesn't win you any customers. read more

Update - 1/10/2011 The progressive lenses I ordered with expensive frames and clip-ons were giving me screaming headaches. Eva, the owner, insisted that my eyes were "tired," so I tried to get used to them. Finally, I had my eye doctor check the prescription (which was correct), we had the lenses re-made, and after seeing THREE MORE EYE DOCTORS, I returned the glasses and asked for a refund. My husband and I had been loyal, long-time customers. Although they did not have a no refund policy stated on the receipt, I was refused. They no doubt returned the lenses to Zeiss for a refund, which is standard procedure, and re-sold the frames. They lied to my credit card company, telling them I had not returned the merchandise and demanding paper work that they never provided, so I lost my dispute. The BBB has my complaint on file, even though Eva tried to buy her way out of it by suggesting she would join the BBB. Over two months after returning the glasses, my husband tried to talk some sense into Eva, saying surely she was refunded by Zeiss for the defective lenses and surely she wouldn't want to alienate loyal customers. She just smirked and said that it was a matter of principle and she'd keep the $510 she owed me for "her time." read more

Just be sure to ask for Chuck. The woman he worked with, who may now be on Welch Road and no longer connected with A.O.E., was very difficult: You felt like you had to battle with her for your preferences. In fact, when I changed opticians, she resisted giving me information about my own lenses. Chuck, however, is wonderful; he's well-informed, patient, and worked with me to get a custom shape. For having the ability to at least pick up the phone, and also because I have to, a single star. You might have received more stars if you had made me want to enter your establishment and spend money there. I've called them on two separate occasions regarding frames and both times have spoken to the same man who needs a lesson in phone etiquette and customer service. Both times he came off as indifferent and rude, almost defiantly so. Just brusque answers, nothing more. (However after reading Mark H.'s review that seems to be the norm for their business, not just this particular individual.) The first call was to inquire if they carried Alain Mikli and Kirk Originals; they do not, at least when I called months ago. The second , more recent call was to check availability of a specific pair of Oliver Peoples. When I called regarding the pair of frames he lazily stated that they, "don't carry that line," and was met with silence after. What I was waiting for, was the offer to have them ordered. I've never called or visited an optician that didn't gladly offer to special order a specific frame from a brand they carry. (Side note: How does a store listed on the Oliver Peoples website not carry the O'Malley, one of the brands first and most iconic frames?) If one can't offer satisfactory service over the phone, why bother making the effort to enter the business? read more

I have had a wonderful experience with excellent results, ordering four pair of glasses at Accent on Eyewear over the years. Chuck is my "go to" person, although everyone in the store is very welcoming and helpful. Their frames are current and stylish, but it is Chuck's expertise in getting the finished product to be accurate, comfortable and perfect that is worth every penny! I wear progressive lenses and am very difficult to fit, unfortunately, and used to dread having to get a new prescription filled. But Chuck has hit a home run with each of my glasses and has made it fun to own more than 1 pair! I am very grateful that I found Accent on Eyewear and highly recommend them. read more

I've been wearing glasses for decades. Over the years, as my prescription has gotten stronger and astigmatic correction was added, I've resorted to sophisticated technology (digitally crafted, high refraction, aspheric lenses) to minimize thickness and weight. Few opticians have been able to get my prescriptions right on the first try. Moreover, unless the frames are fitted perfectly so that the optical axes are centered and aligned, off axis acuity deteriorates rapidly. Chuck provided exemplary service, on a walk-in basis, salvaging new glasses from another shop that I had thought were a lost cause, by fitting them properly. He then educated me about the right shape of lens and type of frame to optimize my vision. We're currently working together on a custom design to do just that. Bottom line, if you have a complex vision issue, you won't find a better partner to work with. P.S., I was referred to Accent on Eyewear and Chuck by my wife, who is also a very satisfied client. She wears progressive lenses, and requires them and the frame to be feather weight to avoid headaches. read more

I've been going to Accent on Eyewear for years. The gracious service and superior craftsmanship make the price well worth it. My optometrists have verified repeatedly what my eyes already knew: namely that Eva and Chuck know their business and that my difficult prescriptions were safe in their hands. I like their work so much that I held on to my last pair of lenses for over five years, going in repeatedly for frame adjustments which they always cheerfully provided. Recently, I got new stronger lenses and, although I could see better on the charts, something was not right. Chuck urged me to follow up with my doctor, which I did. Three prescriptions later, the problem was still not solved. But Chuck and Eva remained as calm and encouraging and gracious as ever. Finally, after visits with five different eye specialists, I found out that I needed a prism in one lens -- a solution which Eva had suggested after the first lenses proved to be too uncomfortable. But since she is not an M.D. or an optometrist, we had to wait for the experts to make the call. Chuck and Eva had no financial stake in my getting the prescription just right. I had already paid. What mattered to them was that the lenses be right. "Whatever you do, don't put them away in a drawer," Chuck told me, after I seriously thought of going back to my old glasses. They have an outstanding selection of fashion eyewear, but have your lenses made up elsewhere! I had two frames done last year - regular glasses and sunglasses. BOTH pairs had to be redone three times - and I still can't see as well out of them as I can out of my two-year-old glasses. And my Judith Leiber glasses with Zeiss progressive bifocal lenses were $1,100!! My ophthalmologist said the bifocals were not in the right place on the frame making it impossible for me to read clearly. Same for my sunglasses. read more

I like unusual, high quality frames. Something different than what I see more or less everywhere. This is where I get my frames. Eva, Chuck and Vanessa are the greatest! Eva hand selects their frames, sometimes traveling to Europe to pick frames we just can't get here in the US otherwise. Getting the lenses usually takes a week or less and the quality is top notch! I get compliments on my glasses both here at home and when I travel. Of course frames and lenses can be purchased elsewhere for less, but for top quality unusual frames and top quality lenses, Accent on Eyewear is the best in the Bay area IMHO. read more
