I had a great experience at Menlo Optical getting my first progressive lenses fitted in frames that I purchased elsewhere. There is a trial period for the lenses and after a few months I asked for an adjustment because I was struggling with laptop reading. I'm giving this a one star because I've bought my glasses there in the past and they've been good but now I went in today for instance and no one greeted me when I came in the owner did not even look up from his phone. I stood there waiting, and waiting and waiting and he never said a word to finally I just walked out. I've run several businesses and that is not the way you treat customers. You at least acknowledge their presence and even say I'll be right with you. None of that happened so I'm done now and I'm going to find another place to buy my glasses. They are more expensive than most so maybe it'll work out better in the long run anyway. read more

I had an excellent customer service experience at Menlo Optical. They don't have thousands of frames to choose from, but what they have is representative and of very good quality. The glasses I selected are so light that I hardly even know I'm wearing them. The fitting was meticulous. I will come back here rather than the large chain optical shops. By far the BEST customer service. I was a walk in that needed to repair my wife's broken glasses and basically needed some small screws to keep the frame in place. The gentleman working that day not only fixed it within 5 min but also didn't charge me. It was a simple job and VERY kind gesture on his part. Mark at Menlo Optical is fantastic for contact lenses. I am near sighted and have a pretty bad astigmatism so contacts are a bit complicated for me. Mark spent a ton of time working with me to get the correct lenses and is now even tweaking reading vision so that I don't need to wear cheaters. For those of you who hit age 45, you know what I am talking about. His consults are free and lenses prices are reasonable. I gotta agree with the others, Mark at Menlo Optical is a contact lens guru! Recently I was diagnosed with astigmatism and therefore needed a new set of contact lenses. I'd gotten his name as a referral and know of friends that go to him as well. Turns out, Mark is extremely thorough and makes it his priority to set you up with the best fitting contacts (and he's got a selection that's HUGE too). I came into Menlo Optical when one of the nose pads on my glasses broke and I needed quick fix. I'd bought the glasses at my optometrist's shop in Palo Alto, and I just walked into Menlo because it was open later than the optometrist's shop. Mark was wonderful. Not only did he install new nose pads that feel even better than the old ones, but he refused to charge me for it--and I hadn't even been a prior customer! It's no surprise Menlo Optical has exclusively 5-star reviews. This shop is perfect - great people, who really care about both getting the job done well and about the patient/customer satisfaction. I can't say enough about them - they deserve better than my meager words. My vision is bad - very near-sighted, high astigmatism, high prism, and ... I'm vain. My ophthalmologist told me, "you gotta go to Mark." And I'm very grateful that Mark is even better than I expected. He helped me get into a new kind of contact lens, that cut the cost by orders of magnitude. When I couldn't find a frame in his shop, he helped me figure out how to order frames from elsewhere for him to fit lenses. He taught me about coatings, etc, so I could make better decisions. When my frames came in, he was kind enough to compliment them. When I was shopping for new frames and tried on a few in his shop, Sherry took pictures of them and sent them to me, so I could think about whether I liked them. (She suggested it - thoughtful, proactive, and aware that I can't see what they look like without my glasses... She's awesome.) Through all of this, I've always felt valued. Went to Menlo Optical with a vintage pair of Dior sunglasses that my mom had worn in the early 80s. Not only were the lenses shot but the frames had also warped. After receiving an updated prescription from my opthamologist, the chain optician/glasses store that I'd used in the past was unable to make lenses that provided far, near and mid-distance (computer) performance, even after several trys. Mark is great. I was having trouble with my contacts and was having slightly blurry vision. I went to my eye Dr. and she gave me a new prescription. Mark started to fit me and told me to go back to the Dr. because I had a slight infection that she had not detected.
