The services provided and staff are outstanding but there is ONE company policy that makes me want to find another provider simply out of principle. They encourage purchasing their eye glasses -- got it. However, if you wish to purchase your eye glasses elsewhere they retain your Pupillary Distance (PD) number (two-digit millimeter measurement) from your prescription and charge $35 for this information. Mind you, this process takes them no more than 2 minutes and is part of your appointment regardless. And this number is part of MY PRESCRIPTION. This would be like your primary care provider retaining the dosage from your prescribed medication if you do not purchase from their pharmacy and charging you outside of your insurance coverage as an extra fee. This should be illegal or something. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!!! read more

I just had an appointment at Access Eye and I was truly impressed. I came to them about 2 months after I got my exam and glasses from a nationwide chain. Not too long after I got them I started having trouble with double vision. I went to Access Eye because of this problem. I saw Chris and Trent the technicians and they were great. They took my history and gave me a basic eye exam. They were very friendly, professional, and thorough. I then saw Dr. Biscombe. He was fantastic. Very professional yet friendly. He said my eyes looked good except for the beginning of cataracts. Not enough to get surgery yet. He checked my glasses and found I had an incorrect prescription and that was the reason for the double vision. I thank the staff that I sae at Access Eye as they solved a problem for me. They are my new optometrists. I can't forget the woman at the front desk. She was amazing. She knew all about my insurance benefits and explained them. To me patiently. Because I bought glasses at the chain I went to first my lenses will not be covered. I blame that chain for using up my insurance benefits so I couldn't use them at a good optometrist. I am on social security I have a fixed income and new lenses will create a hardship. I am just glad I found Access Eye. They fixed my problem. read more

I was in agreement with the excellent reviews about Dr. A. Mansouri, the founder ophthalmologist of Access Eye which has many offices in Fredericksburg area. I still am. He is a kind and competent physician. However, today, when I showed up for an appointment which was confirmed twice by their computer-generated messages and with me having pre-registered like a fool (I now feel) they said Dr. Mansouri has been away for 2 months and my visit with him was cancelled! Yes, it was cancelled with no prior information sent to me, with no knowledge on my part. OK, then why send confirming texts? Why not send a cancellation text? Why not shift me to another Dr. who stood for Dr. Mansour!? When pressed, they simply said it "was the robot," but did not see a confirmation of a cancelled appointment as a problem. So we drove there in traffic for ten miles for no reason. In the face of this scandolous incompetence on their part, all they could do was to dig out a phone call they made to me about the cancellation weeks ago, which went unanswered! OK, how did they follow it up to let me know about it? Any text messages, emails or further calls? Why confirming texts and not cancel texts? It was extremely frustrating to see the management people treating us, the customer, as an adversary and not accepting responsibility for this unacceptable situation caused not by Dr. Mansouri personally, but them! The moral of the story is that sadly, my confidence in Dr. Mansouri's office (think of it as an institution) is crushed not because of anything he has done personally (he is a lovely man, I repeat), but the horrible organizational setup he has created relying on automation and unprofessional work force. It doesn't matter how sweet/excellent/top-notch a professional is in any business context, ultimately he/she gets beaten by the shortcomings of the management team she/he sets up, that is, lack of a sense of customer service, responsibility and genuine caring for the patient. Unfortunately (after confirming with another store) I was provided with an incomplete eye glasses prescription that is unusable and now Access Eye wants to charge me for the additional information needed. At no time while I was at the office I was informed that I need to pay "extra" to get all the measurements needed, neither the vision plan company defined that in the information they provided however, we (me and my wife) were both told by the office personnel that we can use that prescription to get glasses anywhere we prefer. Well, it is not the case. Not happy with this experience, not happy with the outcome and will certainly not recommend it. read more

I had an appointment on May 10 at 10:45 with Dr Biscombe to re evaluate my left eye from my previous visit. I get there early and got into a room. I was in the room 20 minutes with no one seeing my. I went up to there front desk and the lady said someone would be there in a few. An assistant came in and gave me some bs vision tests which I already had my last visit. I took the visions tests for another 20 minutes, which I was not there for. Now I've been there for 40 minutes to see Dr. Biscombe with an appointment and still haven't seen him. I asked the person who gave me these vision tests how much longer to see Dr. Biscombe and that I had an appointment at 10:45 she replied that she didn't know. I asked how an you not know this and I told you that I had an appointment!! I walked out! If I have an appointment at 10:45 with Dr. Biscombe I expect to be seen at 10:45. It was a re evaluation from a previous visit I was not there to redo some bs vision tests. read more

Working in the medical field for 22 years, I've had my fair share of rude physician run-ins. B. Adrian Biscombe, OD has won the award for the most rude and unprofessional medical professional I have ever had the displeasure to experience. I left his office without completing his exam after being berated for not knowing the current brand of contacts I was wearing. I even had a picture sent and his response was "You can't even see the brand!" I thought if you worked with contacts everyday maybe you could recognize the packaging. I wholeheartedly warn everyone to stay away from this practice. I never complain but I will be writing a cooperate letter to access eye as well as my insurance provider. Surely my insurance company does not want to attach a "preferred" label on this company as they hire incredibly inept eye doctors with zero people skills. read more

Initial and subsequent visits were extremely unpleasant starting with the front desk. The woman checking in patients was dismissive and seemed reluctant to answer any basic questions. My son and I had specific times and weren't seen for almost an hour after our appointment time. Contemplated walking out on multiple occasions, but was in dire need. The young lady assisting me with first time contacts education was continually distracted and kept leaving the room rather than teaching. However, once I saw the doctor he was personable and attentive. Unfortunately, the initial contact with the other 2 staff members were not enough to give this business 2 stars. This is the second year to go to Access Eye. I was hoping that last year was an isolated event but to my surprise it was not! They front office employees seem to either not be trained properly in understanding what your insurance ACTUALLY covers. Or they are trying to purposely over charge! I'm thinking that since this is the 2nd time that they are dishonest! So KNOW YOUR INSURANCE PLAN BEFORE GOING IN. You MOST likely will not have to pay the "CONTACT LENSE FITTING FEE" if you get fitted in contacts that your insurance covers. They WILL TRY TO CHARGE YOU ANYWAY! BE WARNED. I have been a client of Access Eye Centers for several years at both the Cambridge Street and Stafford locations. My last visit in April 2016, to the Stafford location resulted in my being charged in error for a service I neither received or requested. I called the office and was told the error would be corrected. However, I was billed again. I again called and was told they would call the billing department to rectify the error. In December 2016, I was bill yet again. I sent the office an email and received an apology and was told the error was corrected. Today, 12-10-2017, I received yet another bill! This time threatening to report to the credit agencies if I didn't pay. DO NOT USE THIS PRACTICE! The doctors are nice but the office staff is grossly incompetent! read more

I am surprised by the negative reviews I've found for Access! I've been going to Access for years, probably since about 2010 or 2011, and I've had no problems at all. The office staff are always very nice, the office itself is so clean and smells fresh, and I've had no problems with my eye exams, contact exams, or with insurance. I've been to two of the Fredericksburg locations, and I've been going to the Stafford location for a couple of years. Dr. Biscombe is great, I've seen him a couple of times now. The Optical Specialist (I believe that's what her title is), Dottie, is very helpful and is always ready to go over all of the options for contacts/glasses with me. I've never felt pressured to buy contacts or glasses. Another lady that helped me was very nice as well, I believe her name was Tamyra Adams. I actually found a review somewhere that said Dr. Biscombe was unenthusiastic, which is ridiculous. He is plenty enthusiastic for an optometrist. I go to Access to get my eyes checked and to order contacts/glasses. I don't need anyone to be overly enthusiastic to be satisfied with the service, lol. The building itself is well located, the interior is very modern looking and well designed. The waiting area is comfortable, the individual rooms seem to be well equipped and are comfortable. All three of the Access Eye Centers that I've been to have had similarly nice interiors. One review that I read had an issue with how the check in desk is set up compared to the desk where you can order glasses/contacts. Not sure what their problem was exactly, you check in at the first desk when you walk in the door. The other desk is on the complete opposite side of the waiting area. I felt a need to leave a positive review since I've seen so many people who claim to not have had the best experience. I would not hesitate to recommend Access to anyone, and it will stay that way until they do something very wrong (which I don't see happening). read more

I have gone here for my eyes for the past 10 years. The last two times I have come have involved very long waits! One time was for an appt. for myself and the other time was an appt for my 3 oldest children. It can be very frustrating to take time off from work to wait and wait for an appt. I don't remember this being an issue before but it is now! I like Dr. Buscomb but not enough to wait unreasonable times for an appt that I was on time for. read more

Absolute insanity. Set up an appointment, but was told in no uncertain terms that unless I put a diaper on my face, I wasn't welcome in their facility. I can't restrict my breathing due to asthma, have been vaccinated, and have already caught both strains of Covid. I'm entirely immune. But nope, no diaper, no service. Because real-world science is less important that conforming and obeying. I've lived here for over a decade, and have been a customer there previously, but never again. The fact that a company that SHOULD understand how basic medicine works has a "zero tolerance" policy against people that don't "conform" is insanity. read more

I went back to see Dr. Biscombe this year. I had started with him at the Falmouth office but once he moved to the Stafford office I transferred my care there. This will make it my 6th year. He remembers me every year and seems to have gotten used to my eyeglasses prescription, which I have had difficulty with in the past due to astigmatism. It seems that my eyes are not changing anymore, except that pesky 40+ problem with reading. I am very satisfied with the doctor. This year though, they didn't have the style of glasses I was looking for. They suggested I drive down to their Falmouth office to pick up exactly what I was looking for. They then called down there and before I arrived, one of their opticians had picked up a few different pairs for me to try. I felt very well taken care of. read more

I had a great experience for my first time. They were able to get me in same day appointment. My normal eye dr was not opened back up yet. I had burning and red eyes. I needed to see someone right away. The office was very clean and I felt safe. They took temp at the door and everyone was wearing mask. Took me back without a long wait. I wish I could leave different ratings for different aspects of my visit to Access Eye. The office was clean, the staff friendly and professional, the doctor competent though he seemed a little bored with his job. It wasn't until checkout, when they realized I was not going to purchase glasses there, that one woman's demeanor changed. I asked the very nice girl at the desk if my pupillary distance could be written on my prescription and this woman, from the other side of the room, loudly says "that's $30". $30 for 10 seconds to take that measurement. If I could get decent glasses there for an affordable price I wouldn't be ordering them online. I guess giving me that measurement hurts their bottom line. Not going back. read more

Buyer BEWARE! During my contact lens appointment, Dr. Biscombe was verbally and physically intimidating when questioned about his methods. After my appointment, he insisted that I purchase the RGP contacts and set-up a fitting appointment before he would release the prescription. He insisted it was illegal to do it any other way. After researching, I discovered it's quite the contrary. The practice of requiring you to purchase contact lenses before releasing the updated prescription is illegal (Reference VA Board of Optometry - 18VAC105-20-45. Standards of practice. C. Contact lens.) After several discussions with the administrative office, including Michele Mansouri, the owner's wife, their decision was that they would not release the prescription and that their office was "not a good fit" for our family. One week later, I am spending time coordinating with my insurance company to ensure Access Eye is not paid so that I can get another contact lens exam with a different doctor. My daughter's trial pair of soft contact lenses (again, they wouldn't release the prescription until we scheduled a fitting) took 2 1/2 weeks to come in, and it was another week before she could be seen for the fitting appointment. Due to Dr. Biscombe's aggressive behavior and Michele's incredibly poor customer service, my daughter will also be getting a new contact exam. If you need contacts within a reasonable time and you like to order them from an online distributor or a discount store (Costco, Sam's, Walmart) be prepared for a huge hassle at the very least. read more

Receptionist wouldn't talk to us. When we did try to talk with her, she simply gave us a condescending smile; it was extremely odd. Then the doctor was condescending also. His assistant; however, was awesome. Then, the glasses specialist; condescending again. I'm not sure why they are so rude. My experience going to Access Eye in Stafford, VA. was not satisfactory. My first visit went well until one of the assistants caught an attitude with me when it took me awhile to put my trial pair of contacts in. After I put the right one on, she told me to put the left one on and to also take it it out while she stepped away to help another customer. I was able to insert and remove the left contact as instructed. Upon her return, she insisted I repeated it again but in front of her. I requested to see the doctor vice repeating the process again. After my third day, my left contact lens ripped. I spent $140 for a seven day trial pair!! I called to let them know. They ordered another lens but emphasized for me to bring on my right lens with me when the left lens arrived. I came in on 11 June for my 1230 appointment and felt ambushed by the doctor and the assistant that gave me an attitude during my last visit. The receptionist at the desk looked puzzled as to why I was there. Before I could finish speaking to her the doctor came over and stressed that he needed to see me put the contact lens on my eye. When I was speaking with him on why he needed to see me put the right lens on, he said because it's a medical device. His response didn't make sense to me since I already have a prescription for the contacts. These multi focal lenses can also be ordered online. The same assistant came over and her demeanor was very unprofessional as she spoke to me with her arm on her hip about the lenses. As we were speaking, I became annoyed and confused by how this interaction felt like an ambush with the doctor and his assistant questioning me. I ended up walking out without the lens. read more

Great service, great doctors! We have been going to access eye now for many years. Today however we were ever so thankful to a lady that decided to pay unknowingly for my post foster sons glasses. My boy Steven 26, special needs and has limited eye sight visited our great doctor in Stafford for his Medicaid check up. When we checked out we were told that glasses were not paid by Medicaid for adults. I have three special need adopted adults and budget is important. I had decided to wait and shop around in hopes to find assisted funding or something to help with Stevens prescription. Unknowingly, a special lady in the office paid for his glasses. I was so taken by the act of kindness I could hardly keep my composure. From Steven and I we want to thank the angel that helped us today! So appreciative of your help.
