I was driving from Des Moines to Illinois when a slow tire leak on a Sunday. I went to this shop and the front desk employee was so young but so incredibly helpful. I was so stressed and he helped me right away. They showed me the issue with a picture and explained why it could not be patched. He then called around to try to help me find the tire I needed that they did not have. He finally found it for me in Davenport and let them know I was on my way. This place is a competent Firestone. The location has been there forever, but management has changed throughout the years. Most recently had some tires for my car before the winter months and they have been rotating them every 10,000 miles. Lead tech refused to speak to me. He also could not determine if there were any new suspension parts from a prior mechanic from 1 week ago. The front desk guy was friendly, but got nothing done. They told me my alignment was fine, but my tires are a cupped which is why I have to hold me wheel to the left 15 degrees. If you've ever had an alignment, you know that's bs. They refused to do any alignment because my 15 degree cant is in spec! No one knew the difference between Rotella T5 and T6. Just said they're basically the same. After I looked into it, turns out T5 has a high likelihood of developing stiction in diesel engines. I told them I do not trust them and will not be getting my oil change here. This place needs new people. I really hope there's another Firestone around here. read more

Utterly disappointed by the services & I will not be returning. I've spent quite a fair bit at the Firestone Iowa city but today they have lost my trust and therefore I will not be returning again. They have clearly proven to me that honesty is not their best policy. I travel a lot and had a flat tire a few months back. I went over this branch to change it and right after they changed it I realized my steering wheel was curving slightly to the left when I drove. So I PAID for a FULL car inspection at this branch and the reports came back as completely fine. Now I'm not a car expert so I trusted them but I had a slight doubt in mind. Several months later (today) I went over to get an Oil change (just an oil change). All of a sudden, I was told my 3 tires are damaged and needs to be changed because of an alignment issue that occurred a while back. So I asked and said how did it happen and the guy at the front desk clearly told me multiple times that he has no clue and it could be "literally anything" his words. He mentioned to me that he could only tell me what was told by his mechanic and I would have to pay for an Alignment check if I'd like to find out more (I mean all 3 of them at the same time? Come on, there has to be a common denominator issue). Nevertheless, I asked why wasn't I told this during the last time I PAID for a FULL inspection, he shrugged his shoulders and again said "this is all I know". He showed me that he clearly did not care, it was my problem now, and he & his team was not able / not willing to do anything about it. Being a Manager myself, I understand the importance of being transparent to the customer as well as treating them with care. Any business that does not show these characteristics should not be around. I don't usually write reviews but this really ticked me off. I personally don't think this branch deserves anymore of my business & I will be not be returning to this branch particularly. Thank you for all the oil change. Roads are clear. Sun is shining. Audiobook on volume 10. Solo driver on hour four of a seven hour journey when, suddenly (cue dramatic music here), the brake light goes on, the battery light goes on, and power steering is a thing of the past. Hop over four lanes, exit the interstate, turn off engine and immediately consult Yelp to find the nearest auto repair shop. Based on proximity and ratings, Firestone was NOT my first choice. However, after chatting with a couple of other nearby shops, I went with Firestone for a couple of reasons - all related to an emergent situation while out of town. In and out in just over an hour with a replacement belt (as suspected) - something I appreciated since I wanted to get back on the road straight away. While it's possible that it cost a bit more, it was worth it in terms of service (Isaac and Skyler were super helpful) and timeliness. read more

Highly recommend not going here!! We got a flat tire (of course on a Sunday and firestone was the only place open) and they said they absolutely could not fix the tire. So we had to buy a completely new one for our rental car. Luckily we decided to keep the tire and when we returned our car they told us that firestone completely ripped us off because they immediately fixed the tire no problem! read more

Don't go, bad and incorrect service at high prices! When my car refused to start, I was hopeful when I brought it to Firestone since they helped me identify a brake issue I wasn't able to identify myself, unfortunately, I was so deeply disappointed with the service I doubt I will use a Firestone franchise store ever again. At the Iowa City Firestone, I found out they would be charging me a $100 diagnostic fee. Fine-- but for the money, they better be able to identify my problem. They told me I needed to replace the battery which was "leaking acid" (which was fine, tested by AAA) and replace refurbished starter (priced $200 more than online for a new starter). They then told me this expensive work probably wouldn't solve my issue, but it needed to be done so they could identify the "real issue." After towing my car home, I quickly discovered the shop had run my battery completely down and that the starter wasn't the issue. I was able to get the car started by pouring gas into the intake-- a simple task any mechanic should know how to do without doing $600 dollars worth of work. I am extremely disappointed by the service and skills of staff. They came off as greedy, condescending, and we got a different story every time we spoke to them. Normally, I don't like to do review online. But this time, I think I need to do something to inform someone is looking to going to this place. The Firestone, specially this one in the Iowa City is a black hole of money. The engine light on my vehicle is on. And I was looking for a place other than dealer that can help me with those thing. I knew Firestone from the TV commercial back in New York. I thought they are some kind of big chain of repair store, they might have ability to do those kind of job. So I brought my vehicle in. After an whole day waiting, they told me that they checked the vehicle and there is something wrong with the computer, so I need to take it to the dealer. Well, ok. Go back to dealer, I can live with that. However, at the checkout, they told me that will be $300 for inspection. Wow, $300 for telling me that I need to bring the car to the dealer? Where the hell are you spending the time with? That is a huge joke. I thought the dealer is a expensive place to visit. It turns out I am totally wrong. In the report they gave to me, it said all four tire have the pressure of 39 PSI. However I just change those brand new tire from Costco which should have the minimum tire pressure of 44PSI at the front and 49PSI at he rear. I am wondering whether they did the tire pressure check or just sat behind a table in an AC room and made those things up. Totally upset with service, they did not fix anything and definitely doubt whether they even checked anything. I'm not sure whether other Firestone in the chain doing things in the same way, but I think I will never get a chance to find out anymore. read more

My well-maintained car that has been reliable for several years was fine until 3 months ago, but when these guys look at it, it has $1500 in problems that impact its safety. If I take it to another shop, these safety issues disappear. I gave them a second chance by going in for an oil change because their location was convenient, and perhaps one bad experience was an aberration. New, different, dangerous safety issues appeared that again, I anticipate will magically go away if I go to a different shop. :) Frankly, these guys give me the creeps. You don't expect this kind of stuff in Iowa City, but it's here, on Burlington Street at Firestone. read more

I went in, said I needed some tires, and was helped by a knowledgeable, nice young man who sold me some tires. I left while the service department took over installing them. A few hours later, a service person called me up. He told me he found a couple of issues while they had the car up. "I'm sure you did," I said as sarcastically as I could. He said the tires needed to be aligned. I said no thanks, I have a service place I trust. After that, he didn't bother telling me about the second issue. I took my car to my regular place which ran an alignment check and they found no issue. If you want tires, get tires here. Firestone makes great tires. But don't let them up-sell you on any services. Two terrible experiences at Firestone Complete Auto Care on Burlington St in Iowa City, IA. One of my tires went flat recently (puncture at shoulder so not repairable) and I took it to Firestone to get it replaced. They changed my tire and pulled me into doing an alignment. Afterwards they said they couldn't realign one of my wheels because they didn't have the right tools for a BMW, and another wheel they could not get into alignment because "it was already at maximum alignment." But I still had to pay for the alignment. So now they're basically making me pay for an alignment twice because Firestone could not do it. I pointed out to the store manager Dee that they have a sign saying "service done right or it's done free." Her reply was they did it right, but they didn't have the tools. Complete BS. They could have either told me beforehand that they possibly might not have had the tools, or they could have called me when they realized they didn't have the tools during alignment so I could ask them to not do it, but they didn't bother. Feels like highway robbery, holding my car hostage until I paid for work they didn't complete. I happily paid for the tire change as they did the work. But for the alignment, any sane mechanic would have just apologized for not having the tools and left it at that. This place didn't care, the store manager was argumentative, not understanding, and only cared about getting paid. Luckily I got the alignment charge waived, but only after wasting 2+ hours aruging with the store manager, calling corporate, corporate calling the area manager, and area manager calling store manager. Probably the only reason they're still open as a business if their low price and late hours, but really it's not worth it. I learned the hard way. My wife had similar experience a few months back after getting into an accident, getting it towed to Firestone on Burlington because it was the only place open at the time, and paid for a complete inspection. Everything on inspection sheet was satisfactory including control arm and suspension underneath the wheels. Only recommendation was to change a tire that got flat and doing an alignment. Had a power steer light stay on and Firestone said they didn't have tools to take that off so we should do that at Honda dealership. When we went to Honda, we realized both the suspension and control arm behind of the wheels were damaged from the accident and needed to be replaced. Went through insurance and did a $3000 repair. Glad we didn't go with Firestone on that one, if my wife got into another accident because of their poor job on inspection, not sure what we would have done. This Firestone location has been an Iowa City fixture for decades, an unfathomable fact, given the terrible reputation this place has for service. The only explanation I can find is that location is everything, i.e., it's a prime spot for capturing students and others living in and around Iowa City who might find the Linn and Burlington street corner address convenient. It is hardly convenient, however, when you have to return to the place several times to demand they redo their work to get it right. It is hardly convenient to deal with mechanics and managers who seem to have little expertise beyond how to remove and replace a tire. I have several cases in point from my own experience. Most recently, needing the convenience of a mechanic on my work commute route, I took my wife's 1983 Mercedes 300D in to this Firestone store for what should have been some relatively simple maintenance that anyone could have done, i.e., it did not involve complicated diesel systems or hard-to-find foreign parts--I need the low-beams replaced, door windows checked because they'd stopped rolling down, and a general service check. Low-beams were indeed replaced, but lo and behold, as I drove it out of the garage to head home, I found that now the turn signals did not work. I immediately returned to the garage and received several bizarre explanations from one of the managers, most notably, "Well, once you start messing with electrical systems in these old cars, one thing after another can start going wrong. You fix this and end up breaking that." Also (shaking head): "It's above my pay grade." As it turns out, in a follow-up appointment the next day, they found that all that was wrong was a blown fuse. But again I was told, "It's touchy when you start replacing fuses in these old cars. You replace one and you blow out another." What!? As for my issue with the windows not rolling down, I was told it had to do with the cars electric wiring and they would need schematics to even begin investigating. I gave up. At home, my wife found our box of Mercedes fuses, opened the fuse box, replaced every fuse with a new one, and guess what? The windows worked! I guess it wasn't above HER pay grade. My wife is lovely and smart, and as she has owned the car for some time, she knows her way around it--but seriously, it amazes me nonetheless that Firestone's mechanics lacked the rudimentary knowledge or common sense it would have taken to make this simple repair. (By the by, when the car started becoming sluggish and losing acceleration on hills, my wife identified the issue as a clogged fuel filter, stopped at an auto parts store, procured all the necessary parts and tools, and replaced the filter entirely herself in about 15 minutes. I'm sure Firestone would have spent the day running all kinds of diagnostics and then telling me it was all "beyond their pay grade.") Also, Firestone noted that my brake lights didn't work. Funny, I told them--they did when I came in. Again, it had to do with the wiring, they told me, and they were not prepared to deal with that. We took the car to another mechanic who replaced the light bulbs, and guess what? The brake lights work. Firestone's people are incompetent, inexpert, and uncaring. Don't go here. Don't. Just don't. I will say that I don't think this problem is limited to this particular Firestone store. I've had other terrible experiences elsewhere. read more

This place is a joke. Gave them my car FRIDAY and told them I absolutely needed it by Monday to drive back to Chicago. Call me on Monday an hour AFTER I needed it and told me there was nothing they could do and it needed to be taken to a dealer in Cedar Rapids. Do not go here. After they did the oil change, my car can not run. My friend checked my car and said there have only quarter engine oil on the tank. I strongly recommend not take your vehicle to Firestone. My grandson is a schooled mechanic. He put an entire brand new front suspension, Struts, control arms, all ball joints, etc., in my wife's car. Of course, the front end had to be aligned. We made her an appointment with Tuffy's. When SHE took it in they told HER that a ball joint was "loose, that they couldn't align it". When SHE called our grandson, they basically kicked her out! They, grandson and wife then took the car to Firestone. Firestone told HER a different ball joint was loose, and they couldn't let her drive the car, because it was a safety hazard. She either had to let THEM fix the car or have it towed. What more needs to be said about Tuffy's and Firestone. A bright 6th grader can grasp what happened here. A quoted $100 alignment magically turns into $300. My grandson and I should have taken the car in. An old woman just looks like big dollar signs to those shops! That is a lot of power, being able to take your car away from. or make you pay $100 tow bill. I'm calling Tuffy's and Firestone equal. One shop claims one ball joint loose, and another shop claims a different ball joint loose. Takes 15 seconds to torque a brand new ball joint, ...IF it were true. YOU connect the dots! If I could give them zero stars I would. Don't trust these guys! I went in with a slow leak in one of my tires. They claimed it was irreparable and suggested that I buy 4 NEW TIRES for around $550 so that treads could match. I wasn't able to afford this at the time so I travelled to 5 other auto shops in the area until I found a used tire with a similar tread level. This particular tire was only $35. When the mechanic at a place that was NOT FIRESTONE went to put the newly acquired tire on he informed me that the tire I already had on the vehicle was absolutely reparable and he patched the slow leak in 10 minutes and for a bargain of $23!! Thankfully, I was also able to return the used tire I bought and no longer needed. Firestone has lost my business and I would never go back there. The amount of my time they wasted and the amount of money they were trying to steal with their lies is absolutely unprofessional and shamelessly dishonest. They are the epitome of the auto guys you shouldn't trust because they don't care about solving your problem. Instead, they will lie to your face and try to swindle you at every turn. Dont do you alignment here, they can never get it correct the first time! I have wheel alignment done here for over a year and there 8/10 times the steering points to one side or not 100% align. Make sure to wipe the steering wheel once they are done with your car! They will leave black oily prints anywhere they touch! The only plus side is getting new tires from them, they are good at getting things balanced and mounted correctly. read more

I got a brand new car from Texas about 4 months prior to my visit here. My car hit its first 3,000 miles and my dad, a mechanic, let me know my car was due for its first oil change. My dad is pretty protective about me getting screwed over. He knows anything you can know about a car and has helped me with older vehicles by simply listening. He went ahead and called this place and they told him an oil change was $19.99. He gave me the number and told me to make an appointment. I called and asked about the oil change and they actually informed me to get the $19.99 oil change I had to print a coupon first off their website online. Whatever, no big deal. Made an appointment to see them that evening. Brought my car in and the guy seemed friendly enough at the counter. He took my coupon and said it would anywhere from 30-45 minutes. The waiting room was kind of dirty, but I think that's expected of these places. I brought my book along, expecting to be there about an hour, but they were done in about 30 minutes. Payed what they said I would. Didn't make any kind of comment on my car. Told me to have a good day. This place seemed fine. I mean, maybe it's because I have a brand new car where nothing should really be wrong, but it all went well. read more

I took my car to Firestone to have them check my brakes over because I was hearing rubbing occasionally when I stopped. They told me that I needed to replace ALL brake parts including pads, rotors, and calipers. They also told me that all of my brake pads were worn 80% except the front drivers side which was worn 30%. In addition, they told me that my tires were completely worn down and needed to be replaced for safety reasons. The estimate they quoted me was $1300, and was way more extreme than any price I've ever paid to get my brakes replaced, so I called the dealership where I purchased the car and they advised me to get a second opinion. Immediately when I told them I would be getting a second opinion they started telling me about things in their estimate that may not be completely necessary. I then took the car to the dealership in town who told me that the brake pads were only 50% worn, and the rotors, calipers and tires were all fine. The rubbing sound, they said was due to rust that had collected and it would cost $230 to fix the problem. Everything in Firestone's estimate was completely fabricated!! I don't even know if they looked at the car at all because they did not even mention the rust issue! Even after living in Chicago for 8 years, I have never had someone be so blatantly dishonest! read more

I went into to get my car battery charged after it wouldn't start. They called me and told me I need a new battery worth $150. Even though my current battery was two months old. I had AAA test my battery and it was fine. It has been working still. These guys just try to rip me off as I am a college female. Don't give them any business. read more

I bought my daughter a new car and it had horrible tires. Even though what I had heard about IC Firestone was not promising, I do not have unlimited funds and they had a sale. I got in on the last day, was told it would be a week before they came in, it ended up being two AND I had to call to check on them several times as no one thought to call and let me know. When the tires were installed and I was paying for them, I had to haggle for several minutes to get the price I had been quoted and I STILL ended up paying $50 more than I was told. After we got the keys we noticed that the tag they had put on it to mark the kind of car was totally incorrect. We got in the car and the tire pressure monitor was flashing for ALL 4 TIRES. I had to stop at the gas station to fill them properly. 3 weeks later my daughter came out of school and had a flat tire. I called Firestone to see what they would do and was told by someone that they would fix it, but it could get costly. I argued with him for several minutes until I got frustrated and hung up. I called the next day and spoke with the service manager Justin and he assured that they would take care of it as soon as possible, and would overnight the tire to expedite. I had to call twice throughout the next week because the tire was not there and the following weekend I was told that Justin was on vacation and they would have to call and find out where the tire was and get back to me. I never got that call. I called again the following Monday and was told it was there and mounted on the rim and my daughter could stop down and have it put on anytime. Almost exactly 3 weeks after that she stopped to put air in her tires (that have been low since she got it back from Firestone) and the valve stem broke off in the air cap. I called Firestone AGAIN. Rufugio said that they would take a look and to have it towed there. When they looked at, Rufugio told me that it was nothing that they installed wrong, the aluminum TMP can snap in the cold. The part was $80 and "what he could do for me" is give it to me half off". I told him no. I was not paying another dime for something that they cannot install correctly. He was very condescending and rude, telling me that they did nothing wrong but he would take care of the cost. After another 2 hours at the store he had the new TMP installed but still could not get the monitor in the car to reset. He told me to take it back to the dealership even though it was working fine before I brought it to them. All in all a horrible experience. I will NEVER go here again and I will tell EVERYONE I know to avoid at all costs. I will GLADLY spend $200 more somewhere else next time to avoid the horrible service, attitude and apparently products. read more
