Rod started out friendly and seemed knowledgeable and we thought we were in good hands. After walking the property with us he identified areas that he felt were the best bet for conducting perc testing. We then hired a surveyor to mark out the existing perc site (we needed more than one.) He went back out and dug holes and flagged out the perc sites. Time was of the essence because we were closing in on the deadline to file with the county to have our perc test begin. We THOUGHT Rod had taken care of that and all we needed to do next was wait for the end of the wet season to get the results. We were never given any instruction from Rod to file any paperwork, nor were we provided with the information that we would have needed in order to file paperwork with the county ourselves. We never heard from Rod again. After repeated phone calls and emails over a period of months we finally called the health department out of desperation, only to find out that he had never filed the paperwork with the county, and with only two weeks left in the wet season it was too late to get a perc this year. Our ability to purchase this piece of property is now in jeopardy and may not go through all because of his inability to return a phone call. During repeated conversations with his office manager we stated that we hadn't received a bill yet for services rendered. Now we know that Rod realized way back that he had dropped the ball and that was why we never got a bill and he wouldn't respond to our phone calls. We are completely shocked by his lack of professionalism or even any sense of decency. If he had brought his error to our attention in January or February we could have addressed it with the health department and had a very different outcome. I recently had a septic inspection done before I purchased a home. Marc at accurate environmental completed it. He charged a fair price ($400) did a thorough inspection of the system with the snake camera and wrote a well-written report explaining the necessary fixes necessary to the system. Unfortunately, when pressed by the sellers and their agent (who he works for frequently) he backed off the verbiage from his report, said that the drywell was in A+ condition and quoted the seller a repair cost of $500 versus the $1500 estimate he gave me as the buyer. This created an impasse on what was deemed necessary to fix between the buyer and the seller. The whole issue was created by the necessary inspections noted in the report to the buyer on one side and the shining report card told to the seller on the other. After getting another contractor on site for an estimate, the best written estimate we got was $1,250. However, the seller kept using Marc's words against the report and the other contractor. Marc is very knowledgeable, articulate, and no doubt performs a good inspection. However, it's after the fact. He has a hard time sticking to his report if under pressure. He never should have given an estimate and he should not have contradicted his report to the seller. When I confronted Marc on this, he did not provide a refund to me after talking out of both sides of his mouth on this issue. If you are buying a house, I recommend someone who is not frequently used by the seller's agent. Conversely (and comically), I guess I would recommend him if you are selling your house and the buyer's agent asked for a septic recommendation...it all depends on how ethical you are. read more

I had a similar issue with Accurate Environmental that Garrott M had, only conversely, I was the seller. The inspection was done by Rod (co-owner with Marc). After a week of torrential rain the inspection was done. Anyone that lives in the Easton MD area knows that the soil is clay and does not drain well for a period of time after the ground is saturated. The septic test failed per Rod's report. The buyers, based on his report, requested a new septic installed per Health Department guidelines. When the health department came to inspect the site, they deemed that the septic system was functional and did not need to be replaced. I hired another company to repeat the inspection and the system worked well with no evidence of failure. Shortly after that Rod showed up unannounced in my yard surveying the yard for a replacement system per the request of the buyers. He did not reveal at the time that he had done the initial inspection. During our conversation he stated that the area that we live in always have issues especially after heavy rains and that almost all would fail under those circumstances. When I found out that he had done the inspection I asked him why he would agree to testing after the heavy rains. His response was that was the date scheduled. He also stated that he had a bad feeling, and that he was not happy about the thought of spending time with lawyers if the contract went to mediation. He wanted to know what I intended to do to resolve the issue. His concern was only how it would impact him. (I was also concerned with the conflict of interest when the buyers requested him to plan the new septic.) He stated that he would stick to his report and later stated that my financial issues were not his concern. This is a man that appears to be pleasant and cooperative until his work is questioned. His actions resulted in a long drawn out process with attorneys involved and costing us thousands of dollars. So whether you're a buyer or seller I would take heed. Marc did a septic inspection for me today at an older home I'm in the process of buying in Millington. Just wanted to share my appreciation for the thorough and professional job he did. Explained things very clearly and in a short time was able to educate on the basics of the dated, "spent" septic system that he uncovered. He further explained the process of installing a new system so that I know what to expect as the settlement date looms ever closer. Well worth it to do the more involved inspection, which I almost wasn't going to do. Had I done that, or even ended up with a less thorough septic professional, I could have easily set myself up for a very expensive consequence. So, thanks for saving my butt today, Marc! read more
