[Review #148] 2016 Yelp 100 Challenge (11/100) Our car registrations came in recently with both requiring smog checks so my husband called our mechanic, Hiro Auto Service, & they referred us to Accurate Smog. My husband called to make an appointment & they just told him to bring the cars in. No appointment? Hmmm... I guess they're not as busy on the weekdays. My husband made 2 trips; he was in & out within 15-minutes each time -- fast, friendly, no nonsense service. Some of the local smog check stations charge $45 with a free re-test if you fail your initial smog check. I'm going to assume AS charges a competitive rate because I forgot to ask my husband about Accurate Smog's fee. I dread the years that my pile needs to go in for a smog test. It is one of those can't do this can't do that to your car can't put on a turbocharger without a CARB number or a supercharger (better one) or long tube headers. $40 for smog and the usual stuff which includes your discount if you brought one in. They put blocks in front of my front wheels (Yay for RWD). Not a lot of smog places did that. I felt comfortable when they do this even at low speeds cause what happens if your car slips off the dyno? Auto Check Centers in Manhattan Beach didn't do this and I felt uneasy about them not putting a block in front of my front wheels. It was fast and stuff and while there were some people in front of me, I went next door to Sweeney's Customer Muffler to say hi. After it was done, paid and got the registration and went to AAA for the tags. read more

Most importantly, the employee (I don't know his name but he is a very nice guy who smiles all the time) was extremely kind and professional! It only took him 5-7mins to finish the test. I've been going here for several vehicles and years now. Just returned from a visit this morning. I arrived at 7:55, Anthony began working on my car at 8:00 and within 12 minutes, I was out of there. Such a nice, personable guy. Accurate Smog is the place to go, and if you go to their website, there is a coupon to use as well. I hear that Accurate Smog is planning on opening another smog check location in Orange County, so keep your eyes peeled for that!! Been coming here for years to get smog checks done on all my cars. Always great service, and the online coupon makes it a great deal as well. First, I make sure my car is not throwing a check engine light (CEL) or any fault codes, get a tune up if needed, make sure the tires are properly inflated, get the oil changed the day before, and I also drive it for at least 30 minutes before I pull in to the smog shop to make sure the catalytic convertors are hot enough to burn the carbon from the exhaust.
