This is my second time to Best Buy Smog and it was even faster than I remembered. I pulled my car into the bay, and the attendant put up the hood and started poking around and taking notes. 10 minutes later, he told me I passed and I paid via credit card. So quick and painless. They can however only service 1 car at a time and I got lucky as the previous customer was leaving right as I pulled up. If there's a line though, I assume it could be a wait. I've been going to this smog check station for a number of years as it was nearby and convenient. Over the years, the business has changed hands and all had been sufficient, no more no less mainly because of customer friendliness. I see a lot of 4 stars but even before this incident, it was not really more than 3 stars at best. I went this particular time and gave the man my registration form and was told to pull my car up. There was a faux pas where I locked my keys in my car just that quick. I had to wait for a bit to have an extra key brought to me. There were a few cars that came through for the service. I finally was able to pull up. Everything was fine and he handed me my smog cert and receipt. What he failed to do was return my registration form but I did not realize it until I got home so I went back to let him know he still had my form and without even looking, he was very adamant that he gave it back and I was 100% sure he had not...I hadn't been anywhere else and it was not in the car. So I asked if he could just look but he was rude and very unsympathetic to my request. I was insistent so he half-heartedly looked and I asked about a stack of papers that he finally rushed-looked through and then I ask about some other stack of folded papers that happened to be other registration forms of other customers that he claimed that they threw away. He tossed them at me to look through. I did not recover my form. Why would there be a stack of other customer forms that customers threw away just laying around if they threw them out? Why didn't he throw them out if that was the case? He probably didn't return their's either! Then it dawned on me that perhaps he was right and so was I. I had been there for a minute and he had my form the whole time so when the other cars came through while I was waiting for my extra key, he probably handed my form to one of those other customers or it's still there at his shop stuck somewhere but didn't bother to really look for it. I have no complaints with the smog check only the rude-ass merchant and because of that, I will go elsewhere where courtesy counts when spending my dollars! My form was never found that the merchant said he returned to me. How it got lost from his shop to my home is beyond my comprehension! Note: if any fraudulent activity arise as a result of my info being hijacked by this business or mistakenly given to the wrong customer, Best Buy Smog will be liable!!!!!! read more

Today was my first visit here since the previous owners sold the business. I told my daughter about the shop based on my previous experience but wasn't sure what to expect now. Yelp reviews seemed positive so I wasn't too hesitant to send her there. They still offer an online coupon which is fantastic news. I already paid my registration so all that was left was to have the smog done. When I arrived, there was 1 customer finishing up so the technician was able to get to my car right away. It's amazing how much more efficient the whole process is using the computer. No more sticking the sensor in the tailpipe or gunning the motor on the dynamometer to measure the exhaust. The entire procedure took while seemed like be about 10 minutes, maybe less. So easy. Now I mentioned you can download a coupon from their website. (I think it may have helped that I came through on a mid-day, mid-week time.) Ken (who later introduced himself) waved at me to pull up. Handed him my DMV paperwork and he was on it right way. "It'll be about 15 minutes..." So, I got the chance to take a better look around. It's located amongst other automotive service spots. This area is almost like a one stop shop for car needs: tires, repairs, oil changes, etc. Good to know for all those future "just-in-case" car needs. Ken hollered approximately 10 minutes later to let me know he was done. "Passed!" He got the rest of the paperwork going and I was good and cleared to go. I was kinda floored at how fast it was. So, yeah: I was impressed. Another reason to be impressed: it was the cheapest I've paid for a smog check. Other places (including my go-to) charge at least $10-15 more. He was quick but was super anal on showing him the coupon before he service your car if we want the discount. Otherwise, he would not accept the coupon if he had already processed the order into his system. Now under new ownership, nothing has changed. Same deal. There's a waiting area inside while your car is being serviced. Depending on how busy it is, he'll put you in a queue. It's a first come, first serve basis. It's best that you call for availability. Make sure you have your DMV renewal papers with you. When your car passes the smog test, the results will be sent directly to DMV so all you have to do is send a check along with the required registration billIng paper. Before the smog test, it is better to run the car ideally on the freeway or higher speed road so the engine and catalytic converter are warmed up. If you take the car only a short distance, the cold engine and catalytic converter will not be at maximum function so that more pollutIng gases are released thereby possibly not passing inspection. read more

I couldn't help being drawn in to the man who helped me, Energetic, straight to the point and polite. I was in-and-out of there within 5 to 10 minutes. That was the biggest plus for me, no time wasted, Just in-and-out. I own 2 vehicles and have been bringing them here for many years now. I've grown to enjoy Kenny as a person, later I found out his name and that he was the owner of the shop. His wife is very pleasant every time I interact with her as well. I'm not sure if I enjoy the fact that I can be in-and-out of there really quick when it's time to do my smog or if I just enjoy visiting Kenny. Either way I'm always recommending Best Buy smog to friends and family whenever they ask me about smog spots. I've been here plenty of times when they're super busy, 3 or 4 cars ahead of me and im still in-and-out right away. Kenny and his wife are a great team. They always ask if my check engine light has come on and the one time I didn't pass he told me to come back within 15 days and he would only charge me $20 for the retest. I have to admit that this review is way past due but I just left there now after about 7 years or service with them and they both are still just as awesome as the first day I came.
