The driver, Kerry (Carey?) came promptly and suggested we go look for the keys. He drove us to the set of stairs we had climbed from the beach up to Beach Loop Drive. My husband, our dog, and I went down the stairs and began retracing our steps as well as we could. We found the keys!!! Kerry/Carey drove us back to the South Jetty to our car. He asked only for $20. My husband paid him a bit more. We could not be more grateful.

When I called Dispatch to schedule the ride, I found out the van could come all the way to my site, but I arranged to be picked up near the office. When they took me back, it was all the way to my site. During morning pickup, the van was 10 minutes early. I happened to be early, so no problem. Return pickup was right on time. Other times I have used it, they were anywhere from 10 minutes early to 10 minutes late. During late times, it was " hospital pickups" that caused the lateness. One other time it was someone who wasn't ready at the scheduled pick up time. Therefore, in your planning, expect a 10 minute leeway either side. Going northbound, they pick you up on half hour. Going southbound, they pick you up on the hour. The trip times are limited, only on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday and only between the hours of 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Have to plan to ride. The drop off point is Rays Supermarket in Gold Beach. If you are in good physical condition, after the van drops you off at Ray's, most anything else you might need is within a brisk walk from Rays, to include a second grocery store if you don't like Rays. I also was able to walk to the post office, and found a vet for my cat. UPDATE: I have used the Coastal service a couple of times to go to Brookings from Gold Beach. Only three runs Monday - Friday, have to plan carefully, But the small busses are comfortable and have seat belts.
