I had really high hopes for Accutech.... great location, good Yelp reviews, etc but this place was a complete disappointment. I recently relocated to the Bay Area and was looking for a place to get a smog test done on my mothers car and Accutech was one of the highest rated places so I thought I'd give it a shot. Called ahead but no one answered. Figured they were all working on cars or had a line of customers in front of them and they couldn't answer the phone... I totally get that. So I decided to go there and see if they could help me. Reco was the gentleman at the counter when I walked in. Didn't acknowledge me at all, not even a look my way which I would have accepted as acknowledgement. Reco was in the middle of an extremely heated and passionate "argument" regarding religious beliefs with another man. I use the term argument loosely due to the fact of there not being an actual disagreement between the two parties. This very loud and boisterous conversation had been going on for some time before I walked in and continued on for another 15 minutes... I wouldn't have waited so long but I like to give people the benefit of the doubt and stayed out of hope the situation would resolve. All the while I'm standing patiently behind and attempting to strike any sort of eye contact with Reco. He never ONCE looked my way or stopped his conversation to say anything to me. Eventually, the customer he was with left. Reco then proceeded to tell me that his shop was closed for lunch and no one would be able to help me until another 30 minutes. He said he typically locks the doors when the lunch hour happens so people won't come in but didn't do it on this particular day. THIS IS NOT PROBLEM, I'M EXTREMELY GLAD THEY ALL GET AN HOUR BREAK. I work a labor intensive job myself and breaks are greatly deserved! Also, no problem at all with forgetting or not being able to lock the doors! The problem is he wasted my TIME by continuing to argue loudly with this other customer. It would have taken TWO SECONDS. LITERALLY TWO to say "Hey! We're closed for lunch, we're back on at 2pm. Come back." But no... I stood there to give these guys any chance at all to take my money and help me out. Grossly disappointed. I went out to the parking lot and dialed El Sobrante Smog and Auto Repair. Asked them if they had time to do a smog test, they said yes and I sped over there. Those guys got me IN AND OUT with a full smog test and certification in LESS time than I took over at Accutech. INCREDIBLY FAST, INFORMATIVE, PROFESSIONAL GENTLEMEN. Summary- Don't waste your time, go to EL SOBRANTE SMOG AND AUTO REPAIR! They now have a customer for LIFE whereas Accutech lost an entire family and friend network of cars to make money on! In all truth, God bless you, Reco. I was happy to see a man so righteous in his faith. I don't wish any ill upon you but PLEASE don't make this mistake again.. I'm a very kind and patient person but this incident had me fuming. All the best. read more

I use this place as my regular mechanic because it's close to the house. The work performed is generally just below average (under dash work resulted in dashboard not really fitting back together afterward, and such), but not terrible. The last visit I had significant brake work done on my family's only vehicle. They finished the work in a timely manner, but left before I could pick it up (my kids and I had to walk for an hour). The closing hours on their website are 5pm. I'm finishing this review at 4:45 as we walk home. Kids are bummed to be missing the Renaissance fair tomorrow. Thanks Accutech! read more

I was able to walk-in, get a smog, and the clerk said the wait was about 45 min. and had 2 cars ahead of me. So I walked nearby to get some dinner. They called me even sooner then the time they told me and they were past closing but waited for me to walk back! read more

I took my 1993 Toyota here after it failed a smog check from Prof Smog in Pinole. I talked to a man name Hung who was helpful and adjusted my idle timing so it will pass smog. Hung also referred me to a better smog test shop called Advanced Smog in Richmond which offers a free retest. Good deal. read more

Front desk is very unprofessional and unorganized. DO NOT RELY ON THEIR COMPLIMENTARY DROP OFF/PICK UP. They are unpredictable and are not respectful of your time. I had another vehicle serviced at Letcher Brothers across the street and the services I received were much superior quality. He gave me an honest opinion saying I should drive it normally for a week or two before getting it tested so I don't waste my money. Nothing more satisfying than an honest shop. Horrible customer service!!! My wife chose to go with Accutech because they were available sooner than our regular mechanic, and now I understand why. She dropped the car off on Wednesday because she was promised that the car would be finished by Friday. The promise was that the tech would be able to work on the car first thing in the morning and all day Thursday. Thursday comes and they realize that the part needed was not in their possession so the car would be delayed. Not a problem as these things happen. We were told that the shop is open on Saturdays so we were expecting to get a call that the car was ready on Monday. After going all day without any updates, my 9 month pregnant wife had to call the shop to get caught up to speed. He tells her that he has not started on the job as he was unable to remove the airbag from the steering wheel. At this point, it is Monday afternoon and it is nearing closing time for the shop. I was still trying to be patient because I understood where the heater core on our car was located and it is very difficult to reach. Patience ran out when my wife was called at noon on Tuesday being told that the job was not finished and that we were going to be charged an additional $250 for labor. At this point I call to try to understand what is taking so long and how can they justify the additional fees. I was unable to understand the tech because he has a very heavy accent and my phone had low reception. After he gave the phone to his manager I understand that he didn't even start working on our car until Monday evening because he had been driving the car to see if it would overheat. I then had to compose myself as I told the manager that this was unacceptable. We had the car diagnosed by another mechanic before bringing it to them but they were not able to fix the problem in a time frame that we were comfortable with. The problem was that our heater was not working, as we turned the air on only cold air would come out. The malfunctioning part was the heater core, and we had never had a problem with the car overheating before we brought it to Accutech. So now the issue that we're faced with is that the car has been in their possesion almost a week and what we've asked to be done had not at that point been done and they're telling us that it is now going to take more money to get it done. I tried to reason with the manager that the promised timeframe and scope of work had not been met and that the tech was attempting unnecessary procedures. The absolutely infuriating thing about this experience was that when they called my wife on Tuesday it was 11:45am and by 4:15pm an 8 hour job was somehow completed. Wednesday comes and goes without the car being completed because the Tech has that day off every week. Thursday comes and as I'm getting off work I call the shop because we haven't heard anything all day. I call and the receptionist somehow knows exactly who I am and tells me that my car is ready without me even saying a word. She tells me the total and I attempt to ask her to explain to me the extra charge, but before I could even ask my question I am cut off and rudely told that they were doing me a favor and that they "took a bath on this deal." I didn't expect her to see things from my point of view but common courtesy and customer service etiquette should have prompted her to at least listen. Upon arriving at the shop, the receptionist tells us the total and then gets a major attitude when I tell her that I still want to talk about the additional charge. She huffs and puffs but removes the additional charge. I personally would have been happier if she at least attempted to listen to what I had to say and then completely explained the reason for the additional charge even if they weren't removed. That was enough for me to not become a repeat customer of theirs but there's more. Upon getting into the car, my wife notices that the gas tank that was above half before we gave it to them, was barely above empty. Since taking the car home it has overheated 3 times and is heavily leaking antifreeze. It is now with the mechanic that we should have taken it to in the first place so that he can clean up their mess. read more

Reco went above and beyond to provide professional, exceptional service! Unfortunately, my Fiat 500c is a piece of junk and was advised to have it towed away to the dealership. (FYI, the crucial Multi Air part that failed is on indefinite back order with no ETA - nightmare!). But I truly appreciate the effort put forth in diagnosing the vehicle, ordering parts and explaining the issues simply to me (car illiterate). I've been using Accutech for many years. They're friendly and helpful. A little expensive. For me at least, they're very conveniently located. They're very accommodating and helpful with my 25-year-old Jeep. For example, they have been able to find unusual old parts for it, such as a replacement parking brake assembly when that broke last year. read more

Just came here and this was my first time getting a smog check for my car. My check engine light was on due to my gas cap wasn't tight. I did not know that it's an auto fail if the light was on. They could've easily told me that before performing the smog check and I would've gone out to fix the car and come back to get it smog. Their comment literally wrote "check engine light is on in vehicle" Well...no shit... now I'm down $58 and back to square one. They also wanted to charge me additional $140 for diagnostic. This place was just milking my money. The only thing going for them was the front desk lady who was very nice. I ended up going to the shop next door called Cortez's to get a diagnostic and I told them the situation how I got the check engine light and they immediately reset the light for me. free of charge...too and suggest I drive the car for a few days before getting a smog check again. Cortez isn't a smog check technician but I wished they were...I will just be going to Cortez for regular car maintenance from now on since they have been so honest in both occasions. read more

Really upset with my experience here. My usual mechanic is Letcher Bro's next door (an exceptionally outstanding mechanic) and came to Accutech to get my car smog certified around 1:30 pm on a weekday, since they're close by. My car and I got treated far less than expected from a station with above average reviews. At first the man at the front desk seemed nice, took down my information while making small talk, told me my total, and said my car should be done in about 40 minutes. Fine. I handed him my keys and he picked them up and laughed at me and said "you drive with all these on here? that's going to mess up your ignition" he was referring to my house key, garage door opener, and a small plush animal that weighs less than a quarter, "yes..." I said, then he proceeded to laugh again and tell me how if I don't remove them every time I drive then my key is either going to break or my ignition is going to be ruined. I understand completely if someone had an overload of keychains and heavy things hanging off of their keys, but I had two essentials and something that weighed less than my house key hanging from there. There is no reason to point that out to me and no reason to laugh. When he sent my keys back with the mechanic about 2 minutes later the mechanic walked over and said "the front door of your car doesn't open" and the front desk man proceeded to say "so you front door doesnt work?" front door, doesnt work? Really? So I went over to my car and opened the front door no problem in front of them both. I didn't understand. I then left for about 30 minutes and came back and found my car sitting in the lot with the hood popped about halfway. Thought they were still working on it but when I went inside they handed me my keys and asked for my payment. I said well I suppose I should go close my own hood then if you're finished. Lastly, without making eye contact, the man at the front desk asked if I had AAA. I said yes, and he said oh you can go get your registration sticker from them right now without going to the DMV. I asked if that was really true even though the car isn't in my name (its under my parents name) and he said "you pay AAA right? then they'll give you your sticker." I proceeded to drive all the way to AAA and, not to my surprise, was turned down when I tried to get my sticker because the car wasn't in my name. I do not appreciate people giving me false information, rude "tips", and treating my car as if I weren't paying them for their services. Thanks for the smog, but never again. read more

Excellent customer service. Honest shop. Reco keeps the gospel music flowing and the spirits high. He also knows cars backwards and forwards. Best waiting room in the biz. And he's backed by a garage-full of knowledgeable techs focused on doing the smart thing and keeping your costs low. I hitched a ride with one of the mechanics. On the way, he old me a story about this woman he met at a wedding. She said, "Didn't you fix my car way back when?" to which he replied, "Mercedes, '89, water pump". "That's right!" she said. I was from out of town running errands in the area--I found myself with some extra time and being that I needed to have a smog and oil change anyhow, I stopped in at Accutech. They were very prompt with their ability to provide a cost estimate and I was able to wait in the waiting area for a fast turnaround of the service. At checkout I was informed of the areas that the service technician recommended I attend to, but I wasn't being pushed into having any of these things done or felt I was being "sold" anything extra which I appreciated. Compared to the different auto shops I have been to in the past, having brought in two personal cars and family-owned cars into other shops down the SF Peninsula, SF, and SF East Bay, I felt that their prices were very fair and more-so on the affordable side. I got an oil change here a month or so ago. The waiting room is clean and comfortable. The oil change turned out fine. I got an online quote from the owner before I came in for the oil change. After the job was completed, the employee told me the oil change costs $50, but then I told him that the owner had quoted me $36 online (as best as I can recall), so he then honored the quote. Just a word of advice: It definitely pays to get a quote for the job before you bring your car in to this shop. And, it wouldn't be a bad idea to bring a printed copy of your online quote with you. read more
