Setting up a business account with Tiana Bravo was the easiest experience I've ever had…read more Considering the amount we were starting with, I expected fees, but there were none. I anticipated a low or nonexistent interest rate, yet it turned out to be quite competitive. There were no complicated processes to navigate, either. Additionally, Tiana was friendly, customer-focused, and respected my time by having the paperwork ready before I arrived. A small thing that makes a difference. The location on Hawthorne is also very convenient.

It's pretty ironic that when you log into OnPoint's website, they warn you about common scams…read morebecause this bank just pulled something that felt incredibly shady. If you have a credit card with OnPoint, the online portal shows that you owe nothing this month and removes the usual payment button entirely. That immediately raised red flags for me, so I checked my paper statement. Buried in the fine print was this message: "As a valued member, we would like to give you a holiday gift. You may skip this month's payment. You just don't pay it. Finance charges will continue to accrue, however." Taking away the payment button while quietly allowing interest to keep accruing is not a "holiday gift." It's misleading at best. I called customer service to flag this, and instead of acknowledging the issue, the rep defended it. When I asked him to file a complaint with management, he responded in a condescending tone, saying, "Sure, I'll do that just for you." This kind of practice erodes trust. If interest is still accruing, that should be made crystal clear in the online portal, not hidden in fine print on your paper bill while payment options disappear.

Chase Bank

I felt compelled to write this 5 star review after my recent few experiences at Chase, even though…read moreI am not a current customer. I used to keep all my money at Chase, and actually closed my accounts earlier this year to go to Ally because they offer interest on your checking and savings that is much better than Chase's rates. That said, the big pro of Chase of Ally is that there are physical branches you can use. My reasoning for closing was entirely outside of the local branch which had always been friendly and helpful (and they are dog friendly, complete with treats!). I needed to access information from my closed accounts and had to visit the Hawthorne branch twice, and called it once. All three times I had 5-star experiences, which would have been great as a customer, but to receive this same treatment as a former customer was an absolute WOW moment. Their tellers are proactive, competent, and kind. They never made me feel bad for leaving chase and were able to thoroughly help me each time. If I were to ever return to an in-person bank again, I would consider Chase, because of this stellar service.

If you are even thinking of doing business with this bank, let alone this branch, then think again…read more If you like seeing fellow customers cry while they're being mistreated, making appointments and showing up to find out they aren't going to make it again, or being gaslighted by finance bros who don't like the "tone of voice" you use when you tell them that you would like your time respected, then be my guest and do business with this train wreck of an organization. Recently I have had to deal with the Social Security Administration and Medicare, and they have both been delightful. If you think that toxic bureaucracies are the sole affliction of large state and federal organizations, then I offer as exhibit A the splendid counterexample of Chase Bank which is clearly run for the convenience of its bureaucrats at the expense of its customers. They will of course apologize when they abuse you, but they don't mean it, and they clearly don't care about anything but themselves. You are forewarned. Visit this bank at your own risk, and should you escape without abuse once, don't count on it happening twice.

If you lose your card on a weekend, there is nothing you can do but go online and hope the shut off…read morebutton works, there's no way to get confirmation. I lost my card yesterday and while I was able to use the app to shut it off, when I called there was an endless phone tree and when I was able to get in touch with someone, they were basically a live answering machine, that is when I got one that would talk to me. The first one told me they werent able to talk about accounts online (wtf?) And the second hung up on me, literally said to someone in the room "I'm just going to hang up" then *click*. When I got ahold of someone, they had no ability to do anything to help. Literally nothing, and were obviously just following a call center algorithm... I could hear them whispering the prompts to themselves as they read them. I get that they are a local credit union, but they should have 24 hour support for theft, its one of the most important concerns customers have. Advantis didnt have a problem with customer support on a weekend. I cant gaurantee my card has been shut off, I cant report charges, I cant order a new card.... nothing. And its a holiday weekend so Ill be unable to access my money (I cant get gas, buy groceries, pay for parking... nothing) for three days. So my holiday plans are out the window and Ive had to get clever feeding my cats. This is wrong on so many levels. If you cant provide theft and fraud support outside of business hours, you should let your customers know. If I had known I wouldnt have started banking with them. There are other credit unions that provide fraud and theft protection with 24/7 support, Id go with one of them if I were you. I hear OnPoint is really good. Ill be opening an account with them when I can access my money.
