Another time I took part of the faucet I needed some kind of adapter for and explained what I needed to do, and they immediately went to the next room and got just what I needed. (I'm someone with decent mechanical sense, but not that much experience or knowledge.) Wayyyyy better than going to a bigger store and try to figure things out myself. The time and frustration saved is worth any slight increase in cost...but it even seems like the prices are very competitive. Another time they could not get me a part (I had to contact the manufacturer)--but they gave excellent advice, in a patient, knowledgeable way.

Here, there is always someone near by to guide me in the right direction. However, there has often been employees (primarily the same person) who all too eagerly shouts to help me before I'm barely through the door, then they seemly babysit me while I make my selections. Although I truly I appreciate the help, projects always seem to require a little on the spot brainstorming and problem solving in your head, none of which are easy when someone is over your shoulder putting selections in your hand. Again, helpful for most things in the store, but rather annoying in other situations. I enjoy shopping here and like any shopper, give me a few minutes alone and I will justify a cart full of items I dont NEED but could find a use for ;) The employees opinions and experience matters to me, and there is a great crew here.

There are some projects that are larger, which require professionals. But dammit, some things I should be able to do myself, even if I lack the knowledge or the tools. But going to the big box home stores fills me with a sense of dread. They are overwhelmingly large, it's hard to find anyone who can help you, and the whole experience leaves me drained, dizzy, and nauseated. So I had what I considered a fairly clever idea. Why don't I just call the small, local, neighborhood hardware store, and see if they can help me solve my minor home repair and maintenance challenges? I'll confess that I called another store first before reaching out to Jack's. But it was at Jack's where I found the help, patience, and expertise that I so desperately needed! Project number one was removing the gunk from between brick pavers on my patio, filling them with silicone sand, and other spring yard maintenance. I had no tools beyond the phone in my hand. But Dan, on the other end of the line, walked me through the tools and equipment I would need. He told me the prices, took my order and payment over the phone, and had everything ready for a semi-contactless pick up! That went so well, I returned for project number two, replacing the window well covers that had cracked. Now I am the proud owner of my very first ratchet set! At least, I think that's what it was called. I thought I was going to need some power tool to do the job, and was prepared to drop a lot of money, but I walked out with a bill of about $30... and a Twinkie. Don't judge. It was for my daughter. Needless to say, I have no intention of ever setting foot again in one of those big box home stores. I have Jack's, and it's fantastic!

When I am in a hurry…read moreand don't want to drive to Home Depot/Lowes/Menards that are farther away this store almost always meets my needs and saves me time and gas. Relative to the store, it has all the basic stuff you would expect from a hardware store like Hardware, electrical, plumbing, tools etc and also offers some unique stuff Like Traegger smoker Grilles/supplies/pellets and a full assortment of Stihl power tools that you will not find in the bigger home improvement chains. Ace also have a free rewards program where you get periodic cash awards for use with purchases at their store and has some great sales. On this particular trip I purchased Scotts four step fertilizer 5000 square ft program for $65 dollars (regular $85) which is a great price and used a $5 rewards card to further lower this cost. You can't touch this cost anywhere else and is much cheaper than the $300 lawn service I used to use. Also I bought some Traegger cherry wood pellets for my smoker for the same cost that you can get it on line and avoided the shipping cost. Overall a great alternative to the big chain stores especially if closer to your home.

Did not seem as though there were any attempts to locate the required parts (which were very common parts available on Amazon for next day delivery). Called a competitor.
