When he returned my call, he said that 4-star review is an insult to him and I should ask someone else to come out and hung up. Never in my knowledge that 4/5 is that bad, let alone an insult. Thank you Richard! Had an issue with my GFCI and he came in ~15min to fix it. Charged $150 for the site visit plus cost of parts. When I first called, Richard gave us troubleshooting tips to see if we could fix it ourselves, which other electricians would not not do! As a woman, I have a distrust when it comes to house repairs due to past negative experiences, but I felt right away that Richard would not try to change the price, to up sell me or to fix stuff that's not broken. He also talked us through what he was doing and did a great job teaching us about load and line, tools, etc. This took extra time, so I really appreciate that. Unfortunately I had the most uncomfortable encounter when I wanted an outlet replaced. I contacted Richard via phone and he agreed to replace an outlet for me. When he arrived he proceeded to make comments on what he assumed my marital status was and on my appearance, repeating that I was "beautiful" (which, how could he know, I was wearing a mask??). The kicker was, he wrongly assumed I was running 2 appliances at once and said "now don't be offended, you're very pretty, very pretty" and proceeded to insult my intelligence while explaining that to me. He even told me to put his business card "under [my] pillow" (?!?) At the time I was super super uncomfortable so I just rolled with it because I wanted the job done. As for the job itself, the removal of the original outlet wasn't done delicately so a decent chunk of paint came off my wall. Richard and his team do excellent work. He's an upstanding guy with a good heart. It's obvious that he cares about his customers and a job well done. The thing that I like most about Richard is that he treats each job like he's doing it for family. He doesn't bring people into your home who he wouldn't feel comfortable to have around his family. He's trustworthy and I'd feel comfortable leaving him in my home alone if needed. I've also provided more details on his approach below. Quoting the Job: Richard will come to your home and assess the job. He'll let you know if and how the work should be done (which is especially helpful when you have an older home with old wiring). He'll give you a price quote and timeframe for the work to be completed. He'll also let you know if other work that you should consider having done, even not related to electrical. While he was on my roof he saw that my gutters were full and admonished me the get them cleaned before the rain came. I don't think it would have occurred to me otherwise and we would've had a bigger issue to deal with had we not addressed the gutters. Payments: I also like his approach to paying for jobs. His client buy the materials and pay him for labor separately when the job is complete. Since so many people get "stiffed" with contractors who take their money and run without completing the job; I prefer the way Richard manages his transactions. Nothing but great things to say about Acero Electric! We were in a bind on a Saturday afternoon, after finding out that our house was out of power in three bedrooms. We needed the issue resolved before the evening, and called many electricians in the Santa Clara/San Jose/Sunnyvale/Milpitas area. Do not use this guy for your electrical needs. He is a scam artist. We agreed to him to come out and look at our electrical issue and provide an estimate. He came to my house, and when he realized that he was not talking to the same person he was on the phone, he then charged a high fee that we did not agree to. Also, he was unable to suggest a solution to our problem, and suggested that we switch all the circuit breakers out. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. Mr. Acero and his apprentice Enoch did a wonderful job installing my ceiling fans. They were super responsive, and even fixed some of the mistakes from a different electrician I had come in the past. I'll start from the beginning to tell you how great they were. I called Richard back around 2pm after he responded to my inquiry that morning. He asked me a few questions about my ceiling which I couldn't answer accurately. He then said he would just stop by to take a look. Once he got there, he was very polite and funny (but not as funny as he thinks he is :) and began to survey the place. Before I realized it, he was getting started on the job. I stopped him to ask what was going on, and he was like "oh yeah I forgot to quote you a price." The price was great, and with that, he instantly got started working. He was very thorough and told me exactly what he needed from the hardware store to complete the installation of the 2 fans. Even though they took 4 hours to install both fans, it felt much faster. They were really clean and swept up any mess they made from drilling. They took great care of all the property, and even offered to complete any other electrical jobs around the house for discounted pricing. Odd interaction, found him through Yelp quotes which is a great feature. He responded to my quote request and we talked briefly. He said send me your address so I can come by and look at the job. I did, 2 DAYS later I followed up and ask him if we had made an appointment yet and he simply responded 'no'? Nothing else for hours later. Wouldn't you think as a business you might try and lock in an appointment at that point by saying something like ' no not yet , when will you be available?' or something like that?
