He only showed up to collect money. He left his incompetent assistant alone on the job who installed the 1st solar panel in the wrong place on my brand new roof. They wired the panels to the inverter and batteries so both are fried and not working anymore which will cost THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS to replace. He took $5000 in a deposit which he WON'T RETURN. When I gave him the check, he said he'd email me the invoice which he didn't. I had to hound him for 2 weeks before he found the email in his draft folder. Then he sent his employee to measure my attic in the garage where he planned to install the inverter, but I don't have an attic in the garage. This same employee slept on the job on the roof. I have to go to small claims court to get my money back

That's when he got angry and said he'd only give me a partial refund. Since then, he's completely ghosted me--no calls, no emails, nothing. I sent a message to Brother Electric sometime after 10:45pm on Sunday night, with a very vague request for recessed lighting and ceiling fans throughout our home. Not expecting a response of course until sometime the following day. Within a half an hour, on a Sunday, late in the evening, Juan responded. I had plans to meet my landscaper the following morning, not 10 hours later, and wanted to see if Juan would be able to accommodate. Sure enough that wasn't a problem. We met at a little after 9am the following morning. We walked through the house where I told him what I wanted. He listened and offered suggestions and ways to both stay within my budget and still get me exactly what I was hoping for. I'm thinking, ok great! When can we get this done? Yeah... he started a few hours later. Monday night, he worked from 5-10:30pm with his team. He was also the only contractor to suggest coming in from the outside electrical panel rather than the inside one. This allowed for a larger circuit to be installed, shortening our EV charge times. I did some Yelp bidding and Victor was pretty responsive and came out to our place for an estimate. He seemed pretty knowledgeable about code requirements and pointing out some things we should update and what things seemed fine to leave alone. After chatting with some other electricians Victor's rates seemed reasonable so we went with him. Victor and his team were prompt to work with us and fit us in between various projects. It still did take a few weeks to finish everything between waiting around for permit and PG&E inspections. However Reliable Electric coordinated all the logistics for those matters and would update us as things got scheduled. Our original scope of work was upgrading the panel, installing the Tesla charger, and adding recessed lights. Since we didn't have a big attic or a crawl space, they had to open up some of our walls to do the work. That's when we discovered that there were still knob and tube wiring in some parts of our house (was built in 1953). He recommended rewiring since that would work better with our new lighting and it would make things safer. While we had the walls open we decided to run some ethernet cables to different rooms for convenience. We discovered a breaker not working during the first week after we moved in but Victor was quick to come out and replaced it free of charge. He also did a few other gratis things for us like securing the outside wiring around the house and replacing some old switch boxes. A few months after moving in, some of the outlets in our house stopped working. Victor came out in a timely manner to look at the issue. He was thorough in testing out the breakers and the problematic outlets. Turns out it was a loose neutral wire in another outlet. It was promptly fixed and everything seems to be working again. Since this was our first home purchase and contractor project, here are some things I learned: -Reliable Electric does not patch walls. Since they had to open the walls for rewiring, we had to also find someone to do drywall patching. For future projects I will ask contractors what are some items that their scope of work will not cover. -While it was easy to coordinate with Reliable Electric directly, it may still be beneficial to work with a general contractor if you have a bigger project. We were doing other updates around the house (painting, flooring) and I felt like I had a second job coordinating everyone. -For future projects I will research and buy the materials myself to save on some costs. We've been in our new house for a few months now and are enjoying our updated electrical work!
