Removing one of the old fixtures.
Mike M.

Our home office had an interesting electrical problem recently. One of the florescent ceiling light fixtures exploded! (Yes, with a shower of glowing embers falling and smoke pouring out of the fixture). Fortunately nothing caught fire but now we had a dark office. I used the Yelp feature to communicate with electricians and got responses from several contractors. I have used Willow Glen Electric in the past, but they were not in the list presented by Yelp, but I was able to add them. Willow Glen Electric responded promptly and presented a complete solution for the replacement of all three of the 40 year old fixtures with new, bright, dimmable LED fixtures at a reasonable price. There was a problem with their first scheduled visit. After waiting a long while and nobody arrived, I called them and found out that nobody had ordered in advance the light fixtures. They thought that they could just pick them up from a supplier on the way over to the job. Unfortunately, they were out of stock so they couldn't do the job on the scheduled date. What they should have done was to order all the needed parts in advance so they would have everything before coming to the job. This they did correctly for the rescheduled visit. Over a week later, at the rescheduled visit, they arrived with the correct fixtures and performed the work. They had to remove the old fixtures, do a bit of rewiring in the ceiling, and install the new fixtures. There were a few issues they had to overcome, but they solved them and the installation was successful. There was a small issue at the end over the final price due to the unforeseen issues encountered in the installation, but it was resolved to everyone's satisfaction. My suggestion to them for the future, is for the installers to be in communication with their office and the customer when such things happen so that there are no surprises.

New Square D panel.
They even had a stucco guy come and finish up the job. It is now painted and looks very good.

WGE was great. They listen to what I wanted updating to new 200 amp panel with a separate generator input. Electricians showed up on time, crew worked hard and did a very nice job. On time and for quoted price. Coordinated everything with PG&E and the city for the permitting process. Definitely recommend WGE and would use them again.

After my old (and dangerous) Zinsco panel was removed.

I used the Yelp "Request a quote" feature to reach out to a number of different electrical contractors. I sync'd up with Matt who was really prompt and informative. I was early in my vetting process so I wasn't the most efficient in asking questions but Matt was patient and thorough. In total, I interacted with 6 different contractors and WGE wasn't the cheapest but I decided to go with them given their reviews and my personal experience with the rest. Matt rolled off my project and I was then working with Will who was also great. Once I committed to go with them I interacted with several other WGE employees (I was replacing my main service panel and there's complexity due to city permitting and PG&E application) and they were all great. On installation day the 3 person crew showed up on time at 7:30 am. One of the crew mentioned that they would normally send out 2 people and take a full day (through 5 pm). There's dependency on PG&E to shut down power and re-energize the line as well as the city inspector for permitting so there is a fair amount of "hurry up and wait" going on. I also had an EV circuit installed so another line was run up through the attic and into the garage. It's really clean looking! My power was restored a little after 4 pm and everything was working perfectly. The last task of finishing was for their stucco person to make the wall look like it did before they started. He finished by about 7 pm and did an excellent job. I don't give many 5 star ratings because I believe it should be reserved for something exceptional but Willow Glen Electric really deserves it. They have a great team and do great work. I would use them again for my electrical needs and highly recommend them.

New NEMA 14-50 outlet, cord hook, and emergency shut off panel for our soon to arrive Tesla Model Y!

Ask the Community - Trout Electric

Does WGE provide warranty on the service/llabor they performed?

Most of our work has a three (3) year warranty on labor and materials, unless an item (like an EV charger) has its own warranty.

How much does to cost for installing recessed lights?

There are many variables that go into recessed light pricing, like whether there is attic access or not above the room, whether an existing switch leg exists in the room, what size and style recessed light is desired. We do provide estimates ahead… Read more

Can someone give me a numerical range of how much it would cost to install a 240v electric car charger?

Hi Abraham, the majority of our installations cost between $1000-$2500, and most of those include the charger itself (Tesla Wall Connector, ChargePoint Home Flex, etc), along with the city permit & inspection. Many installations can cost more than… Read more

Once we chose him to perform a full home electrical rewire for knob and tube and replacing a lot of electrical fixtures. The quality with which Duke, Eddie and the team was able to execute on the work was excellent. He also went out of his way to help me with anything else I needed from him. Overall, I would highly highly recommend Duke to anybody looking to upgrade their electricals.

They managed a seamless 200-amp panel upgrade (including PG&E coordination and permits), ensuring everything was grounded and bonded to modern safety standards. Inside, they wired every room--from the kitchen and bathrooms to three bedrooms--installing dedicated 20-amp circuits, LED recessed lighting, and code-compliant AFCI/GFCI protection. They also installed a 125-amp sub-panel in the garage with fire-rated framing and hardwired our entire smoke/CO detector system. Beyond the technical work, their attention to detail was impressive. They rerouted camera wiring inside the walls to eliminate exposed pipes and handled all the stucco and drywall patching/texturing to match my existing walls. Duke Electrical is professional, uses high-quality materials (Square D), and handles complex, large-scale residential projects with ease. Highly recommended! Duke, Eddie and team were amazing!

I recently hired Bahram (Altap) to replace our old Challenger main electrical panel and upgrade it to 200A to prepare for a new heat pump system. I brought in four different electricians for bids, and Bahram was the easiest choice. Out of all the estimators, he was the first one who had the expertise to immediately point out a critical code requirement regarding the distance to our gas meter. On top of that, he gave us the best price of the four and never once tried to upsell me. I just felt incredibly comfortable and at ease talking to him. Because the heat pump installation was entirely dependent on the electrical being finished first, the timing was critical. Bahram had the experience to perfectly orchestrate the logistics. He navigated the City of Cupertino inspectors and PG&E, pulling off the city sign-off and the PG&E power reconnect on the exact same day. Over the few weeks this project spanned from estimate to completion, he might be quiet for a few days at a time, but he always came through. He responded exactly when it mattered, did exactly what he promised (including a last-minute breaker install right before the HVAC crew arrived), and delivered flawless work. He even connected us with a fantastic handyman to patch the walls afterward.
