The entire menu is gluten free but even if it wasn't, this place easily competes with regular bakeries. The ube brownie is dense, silky, and fudge-like. The sugar and ube are potent and attack you it's perfect for a sweet tooth though I strongly recommend with cold brew. The flavor is so sweet that I couldn't finish the block! Can easily be shared for 2 I came here for the chocolate chip cookie. Thin, crisped at the edges by the sugar, no shortage of ooey gooey chips in the middle. The line wraps around the baked goods window. I like the open concept kitchen and the service is efficient. Gives you time to see what you want and change your mind, especially if something comes out fresh. The breakfast menu stops at 11am but even their premade baguette sandwiches were delicious. Highly recommend a hot sandwich. Lastly, seating is tight but it is ample. It seems like there are waves of crowds. This place is POPULAR. The line was out the door the entire time we were there, but thankfully it moved pretty quickly. We weren't sure we'd actually get a seat, so we ordered to-go just in case. Then, of course, a table opened up and we ended up eating there. We also grabbed a cookie and muffin for later because...priorities. We ordered the congee and roasted vegetable sandwich. The congee was good, but definitely not your typical congee. It had a lot going on--spicy, sweet, salty...basically all the flavors decided to show up to the party at once. I liked it, but didn't love it, and after a while it was a little hard to keep going. The roasted vegetable sandwich was flavorful, but unfortunately way oilier than we expected. My colleague and I came to Verveine on our last trip to Boston - I was told that Verveine's cookies and pastries were some of the best in Boston - but by the time we arrived just before 11 AM, the pastry case was nearly empty. We decided to stick around for an early lunch, so I ordered an avocado toast and black sesame latte. There was plenty of outdoor seating, and we were able to find a table while we waited. Our food was brought out in about five minutes since ordering, but our server forgot about our drinks - these arrived several minutes later. Verveine's avocado toast was by far the most elevated avocado toast I've ever seen. Vibrant pomegranate arils, pink beets (I think), arugula, and pistachios were generously sprinkled over the avocado. The bread was nice and crusty and served as a solid base for the mountain of toppings. As for my drink, I love anything with black sesame, but the latte had a more watered-down black sesame flavor than I was expecting. LOVE verveine!!! Usually there will be a line and it is always worth it. Every visit here is just so delicious. I absolutely love the congee--it's my favorite item on the menu...so warm, hearty, umami. This last time I tried the roasted veggie sandwich which had fresh pesto and hummus too. The roasted carrots were so delicious, overall just a great combination of flavors. The chipotle turkey sandwich was also very yummy--the homemade pickles are to die for. Pastries are always amazing. I was put onto Verveine by my friends who are gluten-free! I'm currently obsessed with their chicken, bacon, ranch pita. You cannot tell it's gluten free. The pita is so soft, the chicken is a thin, crispy, breaded cutlet, and it's garnished with avocado, bacon, the ranch (which tastes more like a garlic aioli), and bibb lettuce. It's so filling and delicious down to the last bite. The matcha is quite good--I've ordered the salted maple matcha. My friend is a big matcha fan and says this is the best matcha she's had in Boston. Of their baked goods, I'm a huge fan of the ube brownie--it's sweet, dense, and chewy. I ordered a scone once and it was a bit dry, so not my favorite. The space is small but I've been able to take out or grab a seat! Verveine is my go-to place to treat myself. I usually head here for a solo snack or early lunch stop on a weekday, best for avoiding the heavy lunch crowds. Because it's that good. And totally gluten free. There are a number of tables in the cafe, but it can get quite crowded. The line gets long if you come at a peak time, so take a look at the menu on your phone (or send someone to snag a paper menu from the front) before ordering. There's a lot more to it than what's posted on the wall. There's a whole array of baked goods, from loaves of bread to tarts to scones. Plus a number of savory breakfast and lunch-ish sandwiches. I look forward to the day when they might have gluten free croissants! (Not yet there, but it's my wish -- pssst bakers!) My favorites are their Gouda scone, the jambon beurre sandwich (ham and butter with cornichon pickles, a French classic), the coconut chocolate chip banana bread, and their rotating savory focaccia. The chili biscuit is definitely the better breakfast sandwich, but their other breakfast options are yummy too. Many folks like the ube brownies, but I personally find them too sweet. I'm not sure why, but I haven't been particularly impressed by their drinks. Their chai is not very spiced nor tea forward. I might go for their matcha but even that is more milky. I'd rather spend that money at a different coffee shop. The owner's daughter (the namesake of the cafe) has celiac disease, so the entire place is gluten free. Heads up there aren't that many items that are dairy free, though. I'm already waiting for my next trip. Best lunch in Boston hands down! If I was a billionaire, I would invest in this business and have them open up shop in Portland so I could eat here every weekend. I was excited to check out Verveine after hearing it was an all gluten-free bakery. I was staying near MIT so this was a short walk to breakout for a Saturday morning and luckily I got there earlier in the morning as the line to order quickly got longer. After debating what to get, I opted for the BEC (Bacon, Egg, Cheese) breakfast sandwich which was so so yummy. I loved the combination of the smoky, salty bacon and the egg sunny side up. There are a few tables that you can sit at if you get lucky or come during off hours. You order at the counter and get a number and seat yourself from there. Ambiance for a bakery is pretty nice and they had a good amount of indoor and outdoor seating. Only problem is this place is popular so it could take a minute to get seated. Overall everything was pretty good. Only issues was the beef in my pastrami sandwich was a bit tough to chew, kinda had to swallow some pieces whole. Would come back though for sure. I've tried multiple matcha drinks and each one has been delicious. In particular, the salted maple matcha stands out--it's not something you see at many other places! The pastries I've tried here, I've loved, including the ube brownie and the spinach artichoke danish. I have told many friends that you can't necessarily tell their pastries are gf, and I stand by that. However, I did try a BEC breakfast sandwich, and it was less impressive. The bread was dense and crumbled in my mouth, and overall the sandwich was somewhat lacking seasoning. The server did offer to replace the bacon with avocado, which I appreciated. This is a 20 on a scale of 1-10! I have had celiac for over 10 years, and this is by far the very best gluten-free bakery I have ever been to. I tried both the cherry tart, and the peach kolache/pastry. Both were super amazing, the peach was my favorite. They did not skimp on any details, these ingredients are high-quality, from what I remember regular food tasting like, this is better than that. I am not from Boston, from the Phoenix area. I really hope they expand their café and open something in the Gilbert area. Hats off to the chef and other people preparing the food and presentation. So when I saw the chicken ranch bacon pita I was like OPP I'm ordering that. The presentation was PRESENTING and it tasted so yummy with pieces of bacon peeking out to say hello. I have no complaints apart from the prices lol but sadly that's how it goes with gluten free products. I got the sandwich and brownies and that came out to almost $30 so I skipped out on getting a drink but those all really looked delicious as well. Literally nothing here I could tell was "gluten free". I've been to restaurants and had something that is "gluten free" and the flavor and taste is different. They opened in May last year and it's clear that the demand and love for this spot. It was a saturday and we got there at 12pm and it was busy when we got there and did not stop getting busy until like 30 minutes before they closed. The staff also all are very nice and helpful and patient when ordering despite how crazy busy it gets. I only wish the best for this spot and hopefully more spots like this for Boston because again the demand and need is there.
