Hands-down, the best gluten-free bakery I have ever been to everything that I ordered and meat was delicious flavorful just the right amount of sweetness and just delicious. Oh my gosh I wish that I could've brought more stuff home and I wish they shipped because I live in New Jersey and I can't get up there that often but I am still dreaming about the brownie and the cinnamon roll was to die for I highly recommend it. I also had the beef pocket thing and it was very good and very tasty. I also had the Basque cheesecake which was phenomenal and also had the passionfruit doughnut which was wow amazing I could've had like three of those and I don't typically like gluten-free donuts because they always seem to be very doughy but this one was as close to a real donuts I could get.
Such a gorgeous cafe. Honestly if you go without checking yelp first, it would've been hard to tell they're entirely gluten free. They do a great job making everything taste similar to their counterparts, but keeping it inclusive so anyone can enjoy their delicious treats. Came around opening on a Sunday and it was insanely busy. Would definitely recommend coming in small parties (1-2) or getting it to-go because it did feel a tad cramped. The line went out the door, but the staff are efficient. I will say, their entire menu is incredibly delicious. I loved their Iced Ube Matcha and Gingerbread Cake the most. I really appreciate that they don't skimp on the matcha & avoid making the Ube flavor taste artificial. The Gingerbread Cake was moist & wonderfully spiced. These were some perfect treats for a cozy sunday morning.
Verveine is my go-to place to treat myself. I usually head here for a solo snack or early lunch stop on a weekday, best for avoiding the heavy lunch crowds. Because it's that good. And totally gluten free. There are a number of tables in the cafe, but it can get quite crowded. The line gets long if you come at a peak time, so take a look at the menu on your phone (or send someone to snag a paper menu from the front) before ordering. There's a lot more to it than what's posted on the wall. There's a whole array of baked goods, from loaves of bread to tarts to scones. Plus a number of savory breakfast and lunch-ish sandwiches. I look forward to the day when they might have gluten free croissants! (Not yet there, but it's my wish -- pssst bakers!) My favorites are their Gouda scone, the jambon beurre sandwich (ham and butter with cornichon pickles, a French classic), the coconut chocolate chip banana bread, and their rotating savory focaccia. The chili biscuit is definitely the better breakfast sandwich, but their other breakfast options are yummy too. Many folks like the ube brownies, but I personally find them too sweet. I'm not sure why, but I haven't been particularly impressed by their drinks. Their chai is not very spiced nor tea forward. I might go for their matcha but even that is more milky. I'd rather spend that money at a different coffee shop. The owner's daughter (the namesake of the cafe) has celiac disease, so the entire place is gluten free. Heads up there aren't that many items that are dairy free, though. I'm already waiting for my next trip. I end up spending way too much money here (too many good options!), but it's been worth it thus far! 4.5 stars rounding up to 5.
Best lunch in Boston hands down! If I was a billionaire, I would invest in this business and have them open up shop in Portland so I could eat here every weekend. It's the cutest little cafe with open seating, with filling sandwiches, unique and delicious pastries, and fun drinks. What more could I ask for? We got several sandwiches in our group and tried a bunch of baked goods too, all were phenomenal. The Meatball Za... omg. It was stunning. If you're gluten free, it's probably been quite a while since you had a meatball sub at a restaurant and this hit SO hard. The top recommendation for sure. Highlights for pastries were the pumpkin bibingka, I consumed mine the day after I bought it and it was amazing still. So soft and moist, with an amazing flavor. The molasses cookies were a hit with my group as well. Basque cheesecake is one of favorite desserts and I loveddd their cookies and cream spin. Also tried their popular ube brownie, which was pretty good, not too sweet, a good ube flavor. As a mainer, I only come to Boston when flying out of PWN is too troublesome. Before Verveine, it took A LOT of convincing to go thru Boston. After Verveine, I'm convincing my partner it's the only way.
I was so excited to try this cafe and was not disappointed! Verveine has a modern feel and a great selection of both cooked to order and baked goods with an Asian fusion theme. I wanted to try something both savory and sweet. For my savory dish I had the maitake congee which was perfect of a cold day - the caramelized onions were super flavorful and paired well with the mushrooms. The cinnamon roll was delicious! Sweet and soft, a very solid choice. Although I do wish it was served warm! I also had the salted maple matcha, it was good but I wish the matcha flavor was stronger as it was a bit on the sweet side. Service was pretty efficient and very accommodating - I had a vegetarian friend and they were able to make substitutions for her!
My order: chicken shawarma pita and blueberry corn muffin The Review: Like obviously, five stars for so many gluten free options. The pastries are gorgeous and the sandwiches are unique with different original flavor combinations. I have to get a salad anywhere else I go so I'm headed straight for the sandwiches at Verveine. The cafe itself is bright and airy. Honestly, it's pretty crowded so I do recommend picking up and taking it elsewhere or coming at an off time, whether that's sometime during the week or late in the day. I'm glad that Verveine offers the full cafe experience to us gluten free folks, finally allowing us to be overwhelmed by (gasp) TOO MANY options!
A decent bakery located very close to Central Square. The inside was bustling with activities during the morning commute hours. There's plenty of seating to eat and work. I enjoyed them letting the customers watch the baking activities behind large glass. The array of pastries available was impressive, and they had a lot of unique flavors. The ube brownie was definitely the best item we got. The cherry tart looked so pretty and tasted well. The fig handpie was very unique, but did understandably tasted a little bitter. The iced ube matcha was ok, a little sweeter than expected. The pistachio chocolate cold brew was really sweet, kind of overpowering. Overall the presentation was excellent, though the taste could be improved.
Cute vibes but might be a little overrated. I didn't get to try other pastries and items but the 3 things we did get were: cinnamon roll - the icing was melting down the dough and leaving a puddle of sugar at the bottom so a little too sweet for our liking congee - a mix of different ingredients but the base didn't taste like anything so it was overall bit flavorless? but good hearty portion matcha - they gave me a hot matcha instead of for an iced but then just poured the hot matcha over ice when I sent it back so there was barely any ice and the steamed milk taste was still there and too strong to overcome
I was excited to check out Verveine after hearing it was an all gluten-free bakery. I was staying near MIT so this was a short walk to breakout for a Saturday morning and luckily I got there earlier in the morning as the line to order quickly got longer. After debating what to get, I opted for the BEC (Bacon, Egg, Cheese) breakfast sandwich which was so so yummy. I loved the combination of the smoky, salty bacon and the egg sunny side up. The bun was actually great as well, really light and fluffy with a nice chew from the rice flour. I have to say, I may even prefer this gluten-free bun to typical flour- based milk buns. Definitely come give Verveine a try, even if you're not gluten-free. I also loved that they have samples out - I tried their ube brownies which were delicious as well!

There are a few tables that you can sit at if you get lucky or come during off hours. You order at the counter and get a number and seat yourself from there. The food was decent but almost everything seemed like it was just a sandwich with meat and cheese on it which is fine but there wasn't much variety. If you have other dietary restrictions in addition to gluten free this might not be the best place for you. The pastries were a bit overly sweet for my taste but good nonetheless!

Verveine Cafe and Bakery is a fully gluten free bakery in Cambridge that makes the concept feel completely beside the point within about thirty seconds of your first bite. We walked into a space that fills up quickly during peak hours, with a cozy, welcoming layout that feels more like a neighborhood cafe than a specialty health shop. The fact that everything on the menu is gluten free stops registering quickly because the quality of the baking stands on its own without needing the qualifier. The ube brownie is a popular item for good reason. It is soft and rich in a way that holds up against any brownie regardless of how it is made, and the ube flavor adds a layer of depth that makes it more interesting than a standard chocolate version. The cinnamon roll is another standout, and the cookies across the board, particularly the peanut butter miso and the chocolate chip, land with a texture and flavor that most bakeries with no dietary restrictions cannot match. The congee is worth knowing about if you want something savory, warming and well seasoned with enough flexibility in the toppings to make it feel like a complete meal rather than an afterthought on an otherwise sweet focused menu. Prices run on the higher side, which is the most common hesitation, but the quality of the ingredients and the execution justify most of it. Lines can get long during peak hours and the space fills up quickly, so coming earlier or during a slower window makes the experience easier. Staff are warm and knowledgeable, happy to walk you through the menu and offer recommendations without any pressure. For a gluten free bakery experience, Verveine is the best in the Boston area without much of a debate. For a bakery experience in general, it holds its own. My colleague and I came to Verveine on our last trip to Boston - I was told that Verveine's cookies and pastries were some of the best in Boston - but by the time we arrived just before 11 AM, the pastry case was nearly empty. We decided to stick around for an early lunch, so I ordered an avocado toast and black sesame latte. There was plenty of outdoor seating, and we were able to find a table while we waited. Our food was brought out in about five minutes since ordering, but our server forgot about our drinks - these arrived several minutes later. Verveine's avocado toast was by far the most elevated avocado toast I've ever seen. Vibrant pomegranate arils, pink beets (I think), arugula, and pistachios were generously sprinkled over the avocado. The bread was nice and crusty and served as a solid base for the mountain of toppings. As for my drink, I love anything with black sesame, but the latte had a more watered-down black sesame flavor than I was expecting. All in all, I felt satisfied with my light lunch but was really looking forward to trying Verveine's baked goods. read more
I was put onto Verveine by my friends who are gluten-free! I'm currently obsessed with their chicken, bacon, ranch pita. You cannot tell it's gluten free. The pita is so soft, the chicken is a thin, crispy, breaded cutlet, and it's garnished with avocado, bacon, the ranch (which tastes more like a garlic aioli), and bibb lettuce. It's so filling and delicious down to the last bite. The matcha is quite good--I've ordered the salted maple matcha. My friend is a big matcha fan and says this is the best matcha she's had in Boston. Of their baked goods, I'm a huge fan of the ube brownie--it's sweet, dense, and chewy. I ordered a scone once and it was a bit dry, so not my favorite. The space is small but I've been able to take out or grab a seat! Prices are a bit expensive especially for the sandwich, but I'm willing to pay it to support a good gluten free option in the city :) read more

This place is good, especially as a gluten free bakery! It's a tad pricey, but has nice seating inside and a good potential work spot. Tried the tomato tart and ube brownie which were delicious. I've heard great things about their matcha too so I'd definitely come back to try some more! read more

I would give up my unborn child to experience their black cherry sesame cream puff again. The flavor combinations were incredibly vibrant, mimicking a gala in your mouth. Really enjoyed their ube brownie and matcha cookie as well. I didn't love their strawberry matcha but I didn't hate it either. It was a bit bitter and the strawberry was a bit too sweet. Overall, there are lots to love about this bakery. From the spacious seating area, to the plants scattered throughout the shop, to the bakers making fresh pastries right in front of you. One would say you could get overwhelmed from all the delicious and unique flavor profiles that many cafes don't usually offer. The matcha got got clumpy after a while ): read more
Stumbled upon this cafe while scrolling on TikTok and decided to try it out. We ordered the banana miso cold brew which was ok. The banana foam had a slightly stronger banana flavor than I anticipated which was fine but with the cold brew I didn't feel like the flavor matched. We also ordered a hot Italian sandwich which was pretty good, the bread was a little dry. The other sandwich we got was the chicken shawarma. We did not like this at all and the pita was so plain. Service was really good here despite the food being mediocre. Staff were well educated and friendly on the food and menu. I also feel like it was very overpriced for the food and drink here. If you plan to come on a weekend, be prepared to wait for a seat and table as it gets busy. Overall, I don't think I would come again. read more
We're breader without gluten! Baker super star Chef Monica Glass never misses with delightful creation after creation. Every single pastry I've had this past year at Verveine has been seriously amazing. Not only are the baked goods made with skill, they are also made fresh daily and gluten-free!! Gluten-free options have never been more accessible (and DELICIOUS) in Boston than now with Chef Moni trailblazing the way! Verveine is a must visit spot for all your pastry kneads!! I love stalking Verveine's Instagram stories for daily bakery updates/offerings (keep an eye out for special items only offered that day)! And weekly pizza updates too! I have on many occasions rushed over to grab a pastry that peaked my interest. If you're ever lucky to be in the presence of an everything bagel seasoned cream cheese twist YOU. NEED. IT! I'm also a huge fan of their cinnamon rolls and *ALL* of their cookies. Though Verveine does serve sandwiches, salads & soups I really think the pastries are where it's at. There are a decent amount of seating inside the cafe and some outdoor tables (weather permitting). The cafe does get very busy and it's a first come first serve/casual quick grab and go vibe. A fair warning to everyone that the prices for pastries are moderate to high and can add up fast! But it's totally worth spending the $$. They also give out a stamp card so be sure to grab one to get rewarded for every visit! read more
For a gluten free bakery, which is a very nice offering these days, the place offered some tasty eats and treats. Staff were very nice. Ambiance for a bakery is pretty nice and they had a good amount of indoor and outdoor seating. Only problem is this place is popular so it could take a minute to get seated. Overall everything was pretty good. Only issues was the beef in my pastrami sandwich was a bit tough to chew, kinda had to swallow some pieces whole. Would come back though for sure. Oh and unfortunately there's no espresso drinks here, but that's okay as they seem incredibly busy with the bakery. I recommend getting their match and tea drinks! read more

Verveine is quickly becoming a Cambridge classic. Everything here is gluten-free, and although I am not (gf, that is), I still enjoy it thoroughly. I've tried multiple matcha drinks and each one has been delicious. In particular, the salted maple matcha stands out--it's not something you see at many other places! The pastries I've tried here, I've loved, including the ube brownie and the spinach artichoke danish. I have told many friends that you can't necessarily tell their pastries are gf, and I stand by that. However, I did try a BEC breakfast sandwich, and it was less impressive. The bread was dense and crumbled in my mouth, and overall the sandwich was somewhat lacking seasoning. The server did offer to replace the bacon with avocado, which I appreciated. On a very neutral note--this place gets busy! It's popular, so particularly on the weekends, plan to wait in line. It's not a Starbucks where you can get your drink and food in 2 minutes, but it is very cute inside and I would definitely recommend it overall! read more
I was visiting Boston and my friend suggested this spot for brunch. The line was so long so I knew it had to be good, and the line kept growing throughout my time there. We got the bacon chicken ranch pita and the garden turkey pita. The pita was so delicious and I loved the bacon chicken one. The portions were massive and so delicious. The baked goods looked amazing, but we didn't have space to grab one with our two sandwiches. There were samples of the ube brownie and it was perfectly chewy and not too sweet - loved it! We also shared a black sesame latte, which was good, but I'm not sure if there was coffee in it. It was very earthy in flavor and not powdery, which was great! read more

This is a 20 on a scale of 1-10! I have had celiac for over 10 years, and this is by far the very best gluten-free bakery I have ever been to. I tried both the cherry tart, and the peach kolache/pastry. Both were super amazing, the peach was my favorite. They did not skimp on any details, these ingredients are high-quality, from what I remember regular food tasting like, this is better than that. I am not from Boston, from the Phoenix area. I really hope they expand their café and open something in the Gilbert area. Hats off to the chef and other people preparing the food and presentation. This was so amazing & so happy I found this place on my last day in Boston before heading to the airport. I am also taking home a couple treats for my mom. read more

Gets very crowded on the weekends and there isn't much seating so get there early or get your order to go. They do move people along pretty quickly. You can watch them make the baked goods in the open kitchen which is cool and they all looked delicious. I got the matcha honeycomb cookie and it was pretty good but you have to love both matcha and honey since it's a strong flavor so I might try another one next time. The spicy chili biscuit was really good but I would have liked more of the chili jam on it. read more

Came for the first time on a Friday around 11am for a little treat. All the tables were occupied so I got myself one of the spots by the window which were all quickly filled up afterwards. I ordered the iced matcha ube latte and a smores tart. I was served the tart right away but it was a little confusing because they gave me a number to bring to my seat for my drink, but they ended up calling it out at the counter so I got up to get it myself anyways. Regardless, I really enjoyed the combination of flavors. The tart was a little too decadent for me to finish by myself, but it did taste good and I enjoyed the marshmallow top. I would definitely come back for the matcha ube latte and to try out more of their food options. read more

Long line on a Sunday 1 hr before closing. Great service; waited probably 20 min. Ordered ube brownie and raspberry white chocolate pistachio muffin. Ube is very rich and is sweet. Muffin had too much sugar on the top. I know baked goods can be sweet but this was too sweet. Probably not going back for the bakery but might try their lunch if the line is short. Could get super packed if outdoor seating isn't available. Bakery is about $5.50+ for the treats. read more
I had to stop by Verveine Cafe, having heard about its new opening and reviews on their gluten free pastries. I am not GF but LOVE pastries and cute bakeries! They had samples of the ube brownie, which was sooo sweet and rich in the ube flavor. It took me forever to decide on a treat, but I chose a classic chocolate chip cookie (pricey for a cookie at $6) but massive(!) and I enjoyed every decadent bite. Store was packed on a weekday afternoon, but pastries were stocked and lots of delicious options! read more
I didn't even realize this bakery was gluten free until after reading other reviews and WOW. As someone who is not GF, you couldn't even tell eating the pasties. Scone was flaky, buttery and delicious. Blueberry donut had a great tang and chew. Highly recommend! read more
Verveine is so cute and they make beautiful food and drinks. I loved the presentation of my strawberry matcha and my ricotta toast. However, I disliked the taste of both unfortunately. I wish the matcha and toast tasted as good as they looked, but neither were for me unfortunately. I would give Verveine another go for the pastries though, they all looked stunning! read more

First time here and it's thanks to my friend, Siobhan and her idea to make a boston celiac group! As anyone knows Boston doesnt do a great job when it comes to gluten free options in restaurants and establishments and I've come to learn this ever more so after meeting my friend and being more mindful when looking at menus. So having a full gluten free cafe is amazing with such delicious options. Many people had advised me to try the ube brownie and it was so good. Right up my alley as someone who loves ube AND brownies. I had been prepared to come here and just have a snack but I was HANGRY. So when I saw the chicken ranch bacon pita I was like OPP I'm ordering that. The presentation was PRESENTING and it tasted so yummy with pieces of bacon peeking out to say hello. I have no complaints apart from the prices lol but sadly that's how it goes with gluten free products. I got the sandwich and brownies and that came out to almost $30 so I skipped out on getting a drink but those all really looked delicious as well. Literally nothing here I could tell was "gluten free". I've been to restaurants and had something that is "gluten free" and the flavor and taste is different. They opened in May last year and it's clear that the demand and love for this spot. It was a saturday and we got there at 12pm and it was busy when we got there and did not stop getting busy until like 30 minutes before they closed. The staff also all are very nice and helpful and patient when ordering despite how crazy busy it gets. I only wish the best for this spot and hopefully more spots like this for Boston because again the demand and need is there. Super cute cafe with good brunch items, pastries, drinks, and decent seating! Getting a seat to eat was pretty challenging though on a weekend morning. Ordered the chili biscuit which was a good savory option and served on the cutest china plate. Their ube matcha latte was also pretty good. Will need to come back to try some of their sweet pastries! read more

I wish it weren't $7.25 (!) but truly the best matcha in Cambridge/Boston. And if you're lucky enough to visit when strawberry matcha is on the menu, it's a must order. The matcha flavor is strong, but not bitter and the strawberry purée is fresh and not overly sweet. It's really really amazing - I'm already thinking about my next visit to get one... Also not to be missed is their hummus plate - perhaps unexpectedly, they make really good hummus. The beet flavor was subtle, and not too different from the regular hummus they previously had on the menu. read more

In "The Vampire Diaries," vervain is an herb that weakens a vampire's power over humans. In Cambridge, Mass., Verveine is an eatery that weakens my resolve to fit into a smaller jean size. The line starts at the bakery section; the visual tour of their enticing pastries is enough to secure a customer's purchase. For us that was a gouda scallion scone, white chocolate macadamia lemongrass cookie, & a square of focaccia topped with roasted asparagus & scallion chimichurri; all excellent, no notes. I noticed Filipino-inspired baked goods -- ube brownie, bibingka, & a calamansi lime meringue tart -- but those will have to wait til my next visit. The heartiest dish we ordered, a bowl of congee with jammy eggs, caramelized onions, chicken sausage, & parm, was incredible. Like most congee, the rice porridge itself is a bit bland but it's the perfect canvas for toppings & sauces. There was some confusion with our order; we received multiples of items we only wanted one of. A small matter that was quickly rectified, but do take inventory of your order & check your receipt for accuracy especially if you're taking food to-go. Full house on a Saturday 10am! We (a party of two) weee able to snatch an open seat by the window. There is always a decent long line throughout the hour we were there, but it moves quite fast. The pastries were all interesting and look good! You won't even know they are gluten free, which is an added bonus. I sampled the ube brownie which was amazing, but on the sweeter side. I got a peach and fig galette which I had no regrets! The pastry was short and sweet and also flaky. The caramelized soft pear filling pairs soo well with the pastry. The opposite texture of fig on top gives this an extra flair. It was pricey tho - $9 for a galette. If I have to complain, they don't have espresso. Especially for a coffee lover, that lost a point from me. I got their cold brew which was normal. -8/10 read more

Great matcha flavor with very sweet ube. One of the few cafes that does matcha well. The line was long, but it did move fairly quickly. Better to go earlier if you want more pastry options. read more

This cafe has a rustic feel to it and I love that you can see the pastry chefs rolling out dough behind the counter, and prepping pastries. I visited on a Saturday afternoon and the cafe was packed! My friend and I were able to find seats after waiting a little bit. I ordered a basque cheesecake that had some citrus fruit on top. It seems like they change their flavor pretty frequently but I was pleasantly surprised by this dessert and would definitely try more treats next time. Verveine does have delicious pastries, I was just concerned from my visit today about the abundance of fruit flies on all of the pastries that were on display. I saw a few of them stuck on the cream of some pastries as well I hope they invest in some covers or fans to keep the flies away! The line was also pretty long around lunch time, so make sure to have ample time when you come. I waited about 20 minutes before I got to order. The pastries also are not cheap, each cookie is about $5.25 but are pretty tasty. They also have good gluten free options! read more
