I was an Ackerman customer for about 8 years until my account was sold to ADT without my knowledge. I have been using ADT for about 2 years. In early December 2025, I noticed Ackerman Security was back in business; I said okay, let me call them to re-established home security services with them. A home appointment was scheduled, and the woman sales rep for Ackerman came to my home. We talked and reviewed the work that were needed to convert my home security services from ADT to Ackerman. We discussed the amount and monthly payments for Ackerman Security services. To establish services, I was going to finance the equipment charges to a finance partner company for Ackerman. I gave the Ackerman rep my personal information (e.g. Social Security number, address, phone numbers, and other information to establish security services.) The Ackerman rep never follow up with me. When I called her, she gave me an excuse saying it is a technical issue, management is reviewing your information, or some off the wall excuse. I got tired of waiting, and I utilized ADT security. I paid more money with ADT; however, I have a peace of mind. If Ackerman Security didn't want my business, I wish the rep would have said something; and she didn't. Very sad business practice; and I am glad that I am not returning to Ackerman as a customer. read more

I reached out to Ackerman because when I recently purchased my home in Georgia, their hard-wired security system was already installed along with an active Vivint security system. While the Ackerman system is not active, the alarm continues to trigger at random times, including late at night, which has been highly disruptive for my family. Given that I have children and work two jobs, resolving this issue became a priority. When I initially contacted Ackerman, I spoke with a representative, who primarily attempted to sell me a new system and contract. I informed her that I am currently under contract with another provider but would be happy to pay for a technician to remove the panel or deactivate the component causing these alarm triggers. Unfortunately, I was told this was not an option, and instead, she repeatedly attempted to schedule a sales consultation. Seeking a solution, I asked if technical guidance could be provided so that I could deactivate the system myself. However, I was informed that this was also not possible due to liability concerns considering I was the "owner" of the system- essentially letting me know that this is not Ackerman's problem. I was then advised by the rep to contact my current security company for assistance--an unusual recommendation given that Ackerman installed the system. When I did reach out to my provider, their technician, with over 16 years of experience, had never encountered this type of request and suggested that I speak with an Ackerman supervisor instead. Following this advice, I called back and asked to speak with a supervisor. The representative said that she would be happy to resolve the issue. I told her that we had already spoken a few weeks ago and were unable to resolve the problem. I was then told that a supervisor would call me back at the number she had on her caller ID. After two hours, I called back, and while on hold, received a call from a supervisor. However, after merely stating that I had their system in my home when I bought it, he did not say another word and put me on hold. This call literally lasted under a minute. I subsequently called back and remained on hold for 15 minutes. While still on hold, I attempted to call from a different phone, at which point the same rep answered immediately. It became apparent that my calls were not being answered when my number appeared on caller ID even though I have only called this company four times in my life trying to resolve this issue. She even asked what my number was because the current number on her caller ID was not the same as the number she had for me from my previous call. Wow! She then stated that there were no supervisors. The level of unprofessionalism from this company is legendary-inspiring me to create a Yelp account. Even if I didn't already have a contract with another provider, you couldn't pay me to deal with these people. I went to log in to my account. The main Ackerman web page no longer has a customer login option. I tried calling the main help number. It played a really creepy automated ad that was set up to create the impression that you are talking to a real person. " Hello, my name is Jenifer, can you hear me OK?" then launches into an ad trying to sell you health monitor pendants. There is no way to escape this ad, it just loops you back and plays it again. The normal monitoring number that they call you from also doesn't work out side of business hours. I wanted to do some repairs at my house that meant I would need to remove one of the keypads, which would trigger a tamper alarm. I needed to disable monitoring for a few hours. This is not possible except during business hours evidently. This kiind of bad web site, and bad phone system, does not give me the level of trust in this vendor. They were sold a few years ago, and they are running this company into the ground. Avoid at all costs. read more

The only good thing I can possibly say about Ackerman/Vector is that the installer that came to my house was very good. Beyond that, as someone else said, after you sign the contract it's all downhill from there. They don't respond to my calls or emails, never follow up as they promise to and I now wonder if they will even respond in an emergency. A simple technical question about something that appears occasionally in my activity log has gone unanswered for a day and a half now despite several additional tries to get an answer. I fully believe that I was rushed into a contract, distracted intentionally during and if certain things were mentioned then it was gone over so quickly I doubt I even heard it. My rates are several times higher than I used to pay with ADT and when I mentioned that the saleswoman laughed at me. I am beyond angry and disappointed. I was a customer for most of thirty years, was forced to leave when ADT took over my account and this is what happens when I come back. I will NEVER recommend this company to anyone. I recently signed up for Ackerman after my home purchase on 12-30-20 and am deeply regretting every minute of it. First of all I had to blow them up to even get the consultation I kept getting "we will call you back", and these generic emails with grammatical errors. See photo. Yet I ignored this huge RED FLAG and continued forward! You should never have to beg an entity for their business, ever! Secondly the telephone representative who set up my contact card and consultation misspelled my email, so I never got a single receipt or agreement, link to the application or anything! When the technician( 01-05-21) arrived he was pleasant but not upfront at all about pricing; you should come with a price list in hand, that's called transparency. after we discussed what was needed he quoted me $1,000.00 I had to ask to see the price breakdown and was allowed to dial back on his recommendations. The Final Set up was done (01-15-21) and I was content because again the field agents are pleasant, but here we are 10 or 11 days later and I have yet to receive anything confirming set up of service such as a receipt, service agreement, invoice nothing! It wasn't until I had to call AND THREATEN TO CANCEL someone even came to the phone! Like I don't even have an online account! Most businesses have you set up with an online account before you even purchase! I called around the 20th and was told someone would call back, they called my field agent and had him call me and for what?! He has done his job, now it's the operation center's job to take over. I want out of this service, I have not had it 30 days and I have yet to receive the agreement as I said! I am getting back onto Yelp after many years just to make sure that no one I care about makes the same mistake I did. That mistake: choosing Ackerman Security for my home security. Like most companies, the acquisition of the customer is wonderful. Then it's all downhill. The primary problem is the contract. No one ever expects to have to continue to pay for a service on a house continuously after you've sold your house, but that's what happens when you sign with Ackerman. Please note that I owned this particular home for 8 years. I sold my house December, 2021 and moved to an area which Ackerman doesn't service. However, the only options Ackerman gave me was to either pay off the contract (+$1000 for me), or just keep paying the monthly payments. I'm sure that some reading mine and many of the other customers' reviews of this company will simply say, "Well hey, you signed a contract and that's that." You're right. That's that. And that's why I strongly advise everyone to never sign with a company like this that has a contract that can leave you paying for a service you CANNOT use. Finally, the customer service is abysmal. I can only assume that the wait to reach someone is so long because of other people calling to complain about their contracts. I initially called and chose the option to have someone call me back. Once they called back, I answered, they were silent for about 7 seconds listening to me say hello multiple times, then they hung up. It is 11:07 am now and I am on a 49 minute call waiting for them. Yeah yeah yeah, everyone is short-staffed, but Ackerman's bad reviews precede the pandemic. They can't use the pandemic as an excuse. Are people calling about break-ins in the middle of the day? I'm guessing I'll have to just pay off the contract so that I can get them out of my life for good. However, I'm going to do the work to make sure I do what I can to make sure that anyone I have influence over doesn't sign up with Ackerman. Ackerman is getting bought by ADT and right now they absolutely do not care about customers. Calling to cancel my service didn't connect to anyone after an hour of hold. A call back took them 3 hours. Then to find out that you can't cancel over the phone or online, only by filling out a paper form and mailing it in which takes 10 days at least. All this time they will keep charging you and will not reimburse you even if you are not physically even at location of where alarm account is. Absolutely garbage! read more

We never had a chance to decide to stay with them orale a switch. Now ADT wants us to buy out our previous contract with Ackerman before we can switch. The phone communication with them was awful. I am currently trying to cancel my account. They make it as difficult as possible. I reached out in October 2021 and received a cancelation form. When I reached out, I received an email saying my financial obligation is $0. After I sent in the form, my financial obligation changed to over $1,000. I have been an Ackerman Customer for about 9 years. Treating loyal customers this way makes no sense. I received a threatening email from Ackerman with multiple misspellings and they also did not indicate any way to pay the cancelation fee that they now determined I owe. Further, in the email they sent to me, they said they are processing my cancelation - at the same time, the email says if I pay the fee, my services may be reinstated, which I do not want. It is very confusing. I will never do business with Ackerman again. This is far too difficult. I have now been on hold with them for over an hour. Property. managers and Landlords: you must set up an account for each property AND use a different email for each account that you can change tenant names & change passwords. Then you must set up ANOTHER set of accounts for each property if you w ant to pay online and review past payments. Is it 1999? To top that off if you call tech support you're on hold for 30 minutes or more. Most of their equipment is outdated and overpriced, but because they were first on the market they've kept a lot of their old customers. Zero is my actual rating. Do not sign a contract with this dishonorable company unless you intend to keep forever or want to waste countless hours on the phone getting transferred around and told variable things each time if you rightly deserve credit or refund for anything or try to cancel service!! You've been warned. I had used Ackerman for 9 years and would have continued service with them indefinitely had they done the right thing. In late May of 2019 I had to disconnect my system because the battery seemed to be faulty and the alarm was continuously set off. After a call to Ackerman, a tech was scheduled to come out on June 11th. Tech replaced the battery and, of course, I was charged $100+ for the battery. Within 72 hours, I was having the same problem! New Battery seemed faulty. I had to disconnect my system again. Due to extensive overseas summer travel, I wasn't able to schedule another service call until late July. The actual scheduled date was August 1st when the tech finds that the new battery received wasn't the problem....the control panel is bad. He states he can replace it but my system is outdated and it would be best to upgrade. I agreed and stated I would talk with my husband about specifics since we are wanting to integrate cameras into our system anyhow. I decided it was time to do some research and see what was possible with an upgrade or new service. In the meantime, I contacted Ackerman customer service to ask for a refund for the service visit in June and the battery since I was charged but it did not resolve my problem and I haven't been able to use my service since May. Basically got the runaround. Had to waste several more hours over multiple days of follow up calls, transfers and being told different things to include an email stating that I will receive a credit. As of October 24th I still never received the credit and discovered that they have been charging a monthly service fee all this time after request to cancel and they've known since August 1st my system doesn't work. Now, please tell me why would I sign a new 5 year contract with a company that couldn't refund the $100 + they charged me for the service call that didn't resolve my problem and battery I didn't need. Please tell me why anyone would sign a new 5 year contract with a company that would continue to charge a monthly service fee knowing my system doesn't work. When I called AGAIN today to get cancellation in writing, I was told I owe them $95. Seriously!! First thing three year contract. Don't do it. Second warranty for the equipment seems to end after the contractor walks out the door (is quite short). Service calls require a fee no matter what's wrong with the unit. Finally cancellation policy is very challenging. You must print a form and mail it. Doesn't sound challenging but during the COVID 19 epidemic it's nearly impossible. I have no postage stamps, no home printer, or envelopes. Also most states have a stay in policy in effect. Don't waste your time. Service is horrible, process and procedures are ridiculous. Oh and one more point. After your three year contract is up. Your contract is automatically renewed annual. Be ware. I joined Yelp for the sole purpose of expressing my dissatisfaction with how Ackerman and ADT handled this entire acquisition process. I had no knowledge of this until I noticed an emailed bill from ADT, which was double the normal billing amount. I called, thinking someone had fraudulently opened up an account, and the rep said that Ackerman sold my account to them and they are now my security company. I asked why I never received a notice or Welcome letter, he said that was Ackerman's responsibility. I now wonder if my home was even monitored during this transition period while still getting charged. It turns out Ackerman is still operating (but as agents for ADT????). Buyer beware. Have sensor falsing that they installed. They want $90 to check. I explained ADT will come out and check it for free when they set me up as a new customer. Done. Follow-on: Since the sensor that was falsing was for glass breakage, I decided to try simply replacing the battery. Fixed. Ackerman never recommended trying it. They were going to simply send out a $90.00 tech visit to change the battery. Follow-on to the follow-on: No call from Ackerman after 3 days. I dialed in to make sure they were not disregarding alarms as false after replacing the sensor battery. I waited over 17 minutes on hold before I gave up. Follow-on #3: No call from Ackerman after 5 days. I tried again. Waited 8 minutes this time before getting through. The Supervisor my case was assigned to happened to have just left for his break. Classic. Waited another 6 minutes. Finally got through to a nice Supervisor who was able to check everything out and make sure my system is fully armed and up to par. She explained that batteries are the common culprit. What a run-around. read more

I have been a customer of Ackerman Security for 10 years, and never really thought much about their service until a few recent incidents. Firstly, we were traveling on vacation when we were notified about an alarm on two successive days that resulted in police visiting our home and discovering it was a false alarm. It turned out that one of our motion detectors was low on battery so it repeatedly triggered the alarm (and Ackerman was not able to remotely fix it). So I decided to upgrade my old system to include an internet enabled one with video and mobile phone based controls. I shopped around and found a good deal on a Ring system, so I called Ackerman to cancel my service. The lady on the phone offered me an upgrade to match all the features of Ring for no extra cost! And I was called by a supervisor the next day to reinforce the offer. What stopped them from offering it earlier? Clearly they wait for loyal customers to walk out the door before begging us to return. However, after the offer, there was no follow up and no email quote, so I called again to tell them to cancel my subscription. The guy on the phone again took forever to agree to cancel and then said I needed to fill out a form which would be sent by USPS. One month later, I am still waiting for a cancellation form and am sick of calling Ackerman. I wanted to share this with Yelp readers so no one else has to go through my ordeal. I hope someone senior in the company sees this post, though I think I will be disappointed again. Update: Looks like reviewing on Yelp helps. I got a response from Ackerman within hours of posting this. Though they now say it will cost me $199 to cancel my account! Would not recommend. We had consistent problems with our service and if you need any maintenance service things done to your alarm system I won't be able to schedule somebody for weeks or even months to fix it. Then when you want to cancel, they require you to MAIL in a form that they email you and there is no other option. It seems to me it's meant to inconvenience the customer, they EMAIL a form and require us to snail mail it back and then wait 10 days for them to get it before canceling. I honestly hate leaving such a bad review for a company I have partnered with for over 20 years, but recent developments with Ackerman have convinced me that they are no longer a reliable and reputable company. Within the last month or so, the company completely switched its billing system. This caused significant issues with the website and logging in, but that's not the worst of the problems. First of all, paper invoices mysteriously stopped being delivered to my business. When I sent an email to customer service requesting one be sent to me, I only received a statement, not the actual invoice listing the services being billed for. Despite several requests, I never did get an actual invoice. Second, when I call customer service, I'm placed in an automated system queue for 20-30 minutes every single time I call. That absolutely NEVER used to happen. In the previous 20 years, I could count on one hand the number of times I've had to wait more than 60 seconds to get a live person. And this is not just the billing number - it's the main customer service line for any problem at all you have with your system! Good luck reporting a false alarm signal from a smoking pan in the kitchen before the fire truck shows up in your driveway. Finally - the worst part - is that I've erroneously been turned over to collections. After I made payment based on the statement (even though I never received an actual invoice), my check was cashed by Ackerman but never credited to my account. For two weeks now, I've emailed and snail mailed copies of the canceled check to Ackerman, but my employees are still getting robocalls from collections. Completely and utterly unacceptable. So, for the first time in two decades, I'm searching for a new alarm monitoring service for my business. Really a shame to see a formerly great local company go downhill so quickly. read more

The contract automatically rolls over for another year if you don't remember to cancel on the month the crappy service started. 3. If you do cancel they make you pay for the entire rest of the contract to get out of it. 4. When I did cancel and pay they still charged me the next month even though I owed nothing. 5. When I called to complain I was on hold for 30 minutes and never got to talk to anyone. 6 I had to dispute the charge with my credit card company to get my money back. TWO- stars only because the installer was great. It was the salesperson who was downright disappointing. It was 30 minutes past our appointment time when I called to see what was going on. He told me he had a flat tire (which I understood) and asked if he could give me a 30 minute lead time as to when he'd later arrive. That didn't happen and he just showed up. I wasn't home but my maintenance man was. The salesperson left. I called him (a little irritated) and he came back and I was able to have my dad meet him and show him around. The promised quote arrived 2-days late and on the day of the installation, the cameras which I ordered weren't on the ticket. What went from a decent alarm company has went to bad really quickly. My alarm isn't communicating with their system. So I have been trying to get a hold of someone for the last week. 1) I can never get a hold of anyone on the phone as a usual wait time has been at least 30 minutes..thank god it hasn't been a life or death emergency. 2) Once I have gotten a hold of someone, I am being told the earliest time to get a tech out to my house is 2 weeks away. As an alarm company that is completely unacceptable. I requested a billing credit as it makes no sense to pay for something that they can't fix in a timely manner. 3) I have been billed 2x a month for a service that should only be once a month. Sold my house in October of 2021. Called in August 2021 to let them know my cancellation date. They are a mess over there. They keep restarting my billing on a house I no longer own. UPDATE 4-14-22. Paper mailed as requested by them a cancellation form. Now I'm receiving text messages that I owe them more money!!! read more

Poor customer service and communication. Scheduled for 8AM-12PM appointment, tech showed up on time. The tech had no idea they were activating a pre-existing system even though I spoke with the representative prior about this. I told the tech that I needed to call the representative and sort it out, or if they could just add in the additional contacts if needed, (was told by the tech that they do not have any additional equipment; I am the first appointment how do you not have any?) Told the tech that they could just install what I have first otherwise I may need to cancel. Proceeded to talk to the Rep on the phone and tech leaves. Have nothing installed for the appointment, waste of time. Edit: Emailed and never received a response. read more
