Although my primary experiences have been with Dr. Archie Ackroyd (recently retired), I have more recently met and interacted with Dr. Marc Van Hoose. He provided me with a thorough clinical assessment and recommendation of my future needs. He, like his (previous) partner, Archie Ackroyd, is a superior clinician and took a careful history before making any judgements re my condition and recommendations. I've also regularly had the pleasure of seeing an optician, Ursula, who has helped me on a number of occasions. Ursula has been very friendly, helpful, and always with a wonderful sense of humor. I woke up one morning with a bloodshot red eye.No pain, no itching or anything oozing but I was unsure if it was an emergency or if I should just call my eye doctor and see if I needed to go to an urgent care. I was informed that my insurance did cover an essential care visit and I was able to come in right away. I've been coming here for a couple years now and I've got to say I am highly disappointed with the service that I received today. First off; usually there are beautiful young women working in the office in the various positions; however; now it appears that no one under 50 is even allowed to apply for a position at this establishment any longer...? Which is fine because I'm not here to judge anyone by their age; but as I walked into the office today to have my glasses adjusted like I have in the past, I was immediately met by an older woman of Indian decent and told to have a seat and that they would be with me in a minute. I then proceeded to sit down and wait patiently but could not help but notice that this woman who asked me to wait was not busy helping anyone. In fact, I actually observed her on the computer shopping for things on Amazon? (I wasn't aware that optometrist office employees were expected to do this for their daily tasks), then as another woman walked in about 15 minutes later and when she was asked the reason for her visit today she replied that she was here to have her glasses adjusted just as I had stated. But she was immediately greeted and asked to come to the back where she was shown prompt service. I made a brief comment out loud stating that I guess I'm not really here and my needs as a customer are not important to which I was still ignored. Then I walked out and not even 30 seconds later the woman who was helped instead of myself came out behind me with her glasses adjusted and able to go back about her day. I am highly disappointed with the services here and seeing as how it was time for my annual eye exam to be scheduled; I've decided to start looking for a new optometrist because I don't deserve to be treated this way after 2 years of being a returning customer. The only way I would consider coming back here is if you fired the woman who rudely asked me to sit down and wait upon entering the office because she was too busy profiling me for whatever reason she decided maybe it was my skin color who knows. -sincerely, Disgruntled ex customer. read more

This is the first time I order glasses first time they made glasses that were no useful for reading or anything- I was able to see exactly the same with or without them- second round they didn't explain what transition glasses are or that are extremely necessary in order to be able to wear your glasses normally and not only when you are sitting or have to read something really close- ofcourse they made mine with no transition adjustments and to correct that, I would have to pay for another pair of glasses - terrible experience- now I am stucked with a pair of glasses that give me blurry vision and headaches after and during each use read more

The Navy sent me here for a routine eye exam and I was very happy with the experience. It was much closer to my apartment than Marine Corps Air Station Miramar which is where I completed my last exam a few years ago. It also felt much more thorough since it seemed like this office had a lot of the latest and greatest equipment. They even offered to do some kind of imaging of the back of my eyeball for $39 but it wasn't covered by TRICARE. If I go back, I'll definitely opt for it and pay the added fee since I'll be a little bit older and macular degeneration runs in my family. Overall, the office was very relaxing and the optometrist and his assistant were both very friendly. The office sent all of the forms in advance so I could fill them out ahead of time and that seemed to speed things up quite a bit on the day of my appointment. Once I retire and have more of a choice in where I go for care, I'll definitely try to come back here again. read more

I have been to various optometrists since I started wearing glasses/contacts over 12 years ago. Some of them were awful, some of them were okay, and some of them were what I thought to be good. Ackroyd & Van Hoose have set the bar, and they set the bar high. I never knew that eye care could reach this caliber, but they definitely demonstrated how it should be. Honestly, ever aspect of this optometry office is phenomenal. All the staff members were exceptionally knowledgeable. I loved how the doctor immediately strict up conversations--he clearly wanted to know more about me than just what he read on paper. When it can to the exam, he throughly explained the process, my change in prescription, and next steps for follow up appointments. The front dest staff were AMAZING! They made the entire experience memorable. They helped me find the best pair of frames--not just ones that looked nice, but ones that flattered my face shape, nose size, and had the best overall fit (so that they wouldn't fall off or be too heavy). When it came to payments, they were super knowledgeable about my insurance coverage. They even worked with me to get the best deal when my Isaura de wouldn't cover my anti glare coating (if you've ever worn glasses with anti glare, you know it's virtually impossible to go back to traditional lenses). Best part is, they made the entire process fun. They were (and are--still waiting to go back and pick up my glasses) and still are incredibly delightful human beings. Both the doctor and all other staff apologized numerous time for the wait time in seeing me (in my entire visit, I don't think I waited more than 5 minutes). I've been coming here. The eye doctors themselves are great. The staff at the front desk is getting ruder by the visit and actually thinking about changing offices. I've also gotten a pair of sunglasses here before and they gave me an actual case. I ordered glasses 3 weeks ago. I went to pick them up and they don't even have decency to give me a case that the glasses actually go into to. They gave me this thing that goes over the lenses and covers them. Probably cost them .25 and they have the decency to call this a case. I also tried to explain the difference between the allowance insurance and the glasses was $25 and they still wouldn't give me the actual case. read more

Everybody is extremely inviting and welcoming, and very professional. I've seen two of the three doctors in this practice and they're both amazing.
