Only negative feedback I have is that you're always waiting a long time to be seen and your appointment rarely starts on time so I would like to see that improved, ideally. Office is extremely unorganized and will waste your time with no apology. The first time I showed up to my appointment I wasn't greeted and the clerks were talking about losing someone's contacts. After I was greeted they told me that the doctor had missed his flight and was not in. I did not receive a call, text or email letting me know. Waste of time. I shouldn't have went back. I went back for another apt and got glasses. When the glasses came in they sent me a text. Before going, I called to let them know I was coming to pick them up. I drove 15 minutes to pick them up and there was a sign on the door saying they were out at lunch. You would think it would be smart to mention the office is closed during lunch hours on the phone. Heads up before making appointment: my family and I have been coming here for years, but due to an apparent insurance policy change, they now require you get a referral before being seen if you have Tricare. I am so happy we found this establishment! I am happy they have their own pediatric eye doctor here! First off, they accept Tricare. The office is very clean. They take your temperature at the door and will ask you covid screening questions. The lobby is clean and quiet. They have an entire section of new eye glasses to choose from as well as eye shades. Staff if very friendly! The exam room was clean and the Doctor knew just how to interact with my child, he made the whole process fun and easy. He was thorough and explained everything without me having to ask. I will definitely continue bring my child back here and will be recommending them to my friends. read more

Either unethical or incompetent optician cost me hundreds of dollars. After my eye exam I was considering purchasing some glasses (I typically wear contacts). I met with the optician who told me that I had a great insurance plan for glasses, but contacts were not covered. Even though glasses are not my preference, I figured that I could wear them to save some money throughout the year since my daily contacts prescribed are very expensive. So I picked out a pair of glasses and a pair of sunglasses, and the total for my glasses and exam was over $600. Very steep prices but hoping it would allow me to save money over the years and I figured I would buy nice pairs since I would be wearing them for years. I also bought a few boxes of contacts. Well, two months later I receive a bill from them for ANOTHER $400 for the glasses, indicating now that my insurance does not cover glasses at all. But I have never been on another vision plan and I have been going to this office for many years so it makes no sense that the optician would tell me that they were covered under the plan. I also never would have made this purchase knowing that two pairs of glasses would cost me almost $1k. This seems like a very unethical practice to misquote insurance coverage to entice people to buy glasses by lying about their coverage and billing them for the additional cost later on. I am incredibly disappointed and feel like I was taken advantage of. I will not be returning to this office. read more

I would like to recommend the doctors as they are very knowledgeable and genuinely care about their patients. Additionally, their staff is very helpful and accommodating. I commend them and appreciate all their help. However, I had very bad luck with their on-site optical department. After almost 2 months passed, leaving numerous voicemails and 2 in person visits later, only to be told that my eyewear was not in stock, was frustrating. An email, text, or phone follow up would have been nice instead of me having to do all the follow ups. At this point, I politely ask for a refund but now the refund process was going to be another ordeal. I now have to wait another 7-10 days to get a refund check. **fingers crossed that I'll receive it**. That will be almost 2 months without having my prescription eyewear that was paid in full. I clearly explained my glasses needs to the doctor and staff, and they were happy to charge me for all the extras. However, when my glasses arrived, they were not usable for the purposes I explained to everyone. Instead of resolving the issue, I received a lecture and was offered the chance to pay more money to possibly fix what they couldn't deliver in the first place. When I spoke to the manager, her best solution was to suggest that I wear the glasses for a while and hope they get better, which is not a solution--especially since part of the specialized need was for driving. No one in San Diego wants me on the road with glasses that alter my vision in a way that creates a hazard for everyone. My advice is to stay away from this provider. There's a reason why VSP pulled out of this location--I should have taken that as a sign. read more

Eye exam went well but poor communication around ordering contacts. I had to call them multiple times during the week to make sure they called my insurance to double check if they take it and they were apparently waiting to get my history from my prior optometrist. None of this was communicated to me and I had to call and explain the situation over and over. On the final call, they explained they were waiting for my precious history but they never communicated that's why they didn't order the contacts. Basically, gaslit me and never apologized for not doing their jobs or simply communicating. After I finally got the total and they were about to order it but realized Costco was much cheaper. Not sure if this was the norm cause it's been a while but I could not believe their prices. This place was not cheap even with insurance, I paid less 18 months ago when I had no insurance at another place and the frames were Ray Ban. The glasses I picked out here were not designer and on their lower end. . I don't mind paying a bit more for the service and their service was pretty good. They lose another star because of one of the girls up front. She had zero customer service skills when I dealt with her the two times I went on. Doctor Klein and Doctor Plattner no longer work here. Even though every insurance company says they do. It appears a couple years ago they sold the practice. My family has been going to this location since they first opened, but now the company, employees and service has gone so far downhill that my family will no longer step foot in this building. Nobody is entitled to solve problems when they come up, they refuse to address the problems and refer you people who are never in the office or are remote in a corporate setting. I cancelled an order and was told I could not have my money back. They would have to send a request for approval. Approval? For what, confirming the customer cancelled the order? I have never heard this. They also refused to refund back to the method of payment. They then said I would get a check "if approved". This company has no idea how to do business in California. As per State Law: California: Merchants are required to clearly post their refund policy unless they offer full cash refund, exchange, or store credit within seven days of the purchase date. Failing this requirement, customers may return goods for a full refund within 30 days of the purchase. In most cases, regardless of how a merchant drafts its return policy, the conditions of such a policy must be prominently displayed at the place of purchase (including Web sites) for it to be considered valid. This company has no policy displayed prominently but they are not refunding money at the time of cancellation or return. I would avoid this company as they have turned into an overpriced Lenscrafters. A company can NOT claim "it's our policy" if that policy is not disclosed or displayed. read more

1. Do not come here with your own bought eyeglass frame. They will not take any responsibilities if anything happen to your frame. As they said to me, you did not bought the frame from us so not our fault if it breaks. So technically, they can break your fully functional frame in half and they will not take responsibility to repair/replace. They broke and refuse to repair my newly bought frame after I gave it to them to have my prescription glasses installed. 2. Took 3 month for my safety glasses to be made which is waaay to long. Calling them every week asking for an update is like talking to a wall, responded back with empty promises and classic cheap reassurance. "It will be here most likely next week, vendor probably have issue so be patient, we will contact the vendor and give you an update soon, and etc" while they did absolutely nothing behind the scene. I know this because after I ran out of patience, I told them I am going to walk away and have my safety glasses made elesewhere, which prompt them to finally making an actual call to the vendor and confirm that my safety glasses request has not been received by the vendor. Good job for wasting my time calling every week 10+ times for such simple issue. 3. 1 star for their customer service and staffs, but not the doctor. Doctor is friendly and professional. Will only consider coming back for eye examination purposes only and have anything else done elsewhere. read more

Total Vision in Tierrasanta has terrible service and they don't stand by their word. I've had many bad experiences with them. Last year I ordered some safety glasses that my company paid for and couldn't even wear them because they made me dizzy. This year I was told by my company that I could order one transitional and one clear pair of safety glasses so provided the forms to Total Vision and they provided me one sunglasses and one clear. It turns out that you either receive one transitional or two pairs (one sunglass and one clear). Instead of them calling me and asking me what I preferred they sent me one sunglass and one clear. I don't like having to change glasses when I'm working. Furthermore these glasses make me dizzy as well. Jade told me that they would cover the cost for a transitional and waited for about a month with no call. I called them today to check on the status of the safety glasses and they explained that they weren't going to cover them after all. You can't believe what they promise. When you leave them voice mail messages they never respond. When your glasses finally arrive they don't call you. They're very unprofessional. Jade does seem like a nice person but their customer service and promises are no good. I don't know why I ended up buying a personal pair of glasses for $350 from them. I'll be taking my business somewhere else. read more

I have been going to Total Vision Care-Tierrasanta for about 5 years now and couldn't be happier! I first started coming for my dry eye syndrome issues. I was given the iLux treatment for my gland dysfunction and it worked great! I have been coming ever since flor all my eye care needs. My husband and I come for our yearly check ups (their comprehensive eye exams are outstanding!). We just came a few months ago for our eye exams and each got new prescription glasses. I also received another iLux treatment. Dr. Johnson is just outstanding. He is extremely knowledgeable, professional, great bedside manner with his patients, and explains everything thoroughly and answered all of our questions. Total vision booked my appointment and Zoey's one after another to make it convenient, but he basically saw us together. They have all the latest equipment and our insurance covered almost everything except this more advanced eye "picture". But for $35 it was worth it. So back to Total Vision. The people at the front desk can use a class in customer service. They barely greet you, walk away when you walk up to the desk, without even acknowledging you and are disorganized. When I went to pick up papers, they couldn't be found. Watching the two ladies go through piles of papers to find what I needed, did not make a good impression....and I walked away empty handed. Granted, hours later I got a call that the papers were found, in fact, apparently they were on the desk the whole time...not buying that. They lack a good filing system. With that said, patient care NEEDS TO SLOW DOWN. They rush you from station to station as if their lives depended on it. Dr. Johnson does his examinations quickly, it can leave you flustered and questioning the quality of the exam. The section where you can pick out glasses does not have any reps to help you if you have questions. When I did find someone to sit down with me, another customer came in and no one greeted or helped her. In fact, she, the customer, interrupted my time with the representative to inquire when she would be done with me to help her...Rather then offering to find another person to help her, she gave her an estimated time. Now the glasses...quality does NOT match the price. If you can, price check and shop elsewhere with your script. IF you are military, ALWAYS check out the military optometry center. Better quality, better price and a 2 year warranty. PS-Just reviewed my records and the eye doc put in his assessment that I had type II diabetes. Which I DO NOT HAVE. It also states that I have Macular Degeneration, I DO NOT HAVE THIS CONDITION either. Yet, according to the summary I was provided with all this awesome material about both diabetes and Macular Degeneration...including a video. WOW. Must check with my insurance company to see if there are any extra charges. Either way, it supports what was stated above. QUALITY OF CARE is in question. Down to one star for obvious reasons. Update: Spoke to the doctor and he apologized, apparently it was a computer glitch! The program they use diagnoses patients! They said the glitch is fixed when I expressed concern about other patients records being affected....apparently the issues started and ended with me...Think it is unlikely it happened this way...but moving on. I've been wearing glasses/contacts since I was in 8th grade and I'm now 45 years old. In all my life of going to eye doctor's I've never had more of a worse experience. I have insurance and only came in for an exam. I did not purchase glasses or contacts on this day. 1. The gal doing my exam asked me if I wanted to have a scan of my eye (which I've never been asked before to do). I said, yes not knowing it was an additional $35. I don't believe it is my responsibility to ask if it is an additional charge. She should have told me this when asking. I'm refusing to pay this as it was almost like a used car salesmen tactic looking back. 2. I was charged an additional $100 for a contact exam which in all my years has always been standard in the routine eye exam. I didn't even get to leave with my prescription for his. 3. As stated I did NOT purchase contacts or glasses on this day. It was only a routine eye exam. When leaving the guy checking me out says "after insurance you owe us $145 for today." I was totally shocked as I've never paid for anything but my $10 copay before. With prices and add-on's like this I'd swear we were in Beverly Hills at some reality TV eye vision specialist. The doctor was rushed and short with his questions, flipping between lenses so quickly, my son could barely guess before the doctor changed the instrument. He spent most of his time with two kids, leaving my oldest to be, for the most part, examined by an assistant. After I called him on his rushing the exam, he slowed down, but now I feel uncertain as to the accuracy of my son's prescription. When administering dilation eye drops, they forego the analgesic drops; instead the doctor told my gasping son to "think happy thoughts." (Perhaps my teen lucked out by seeing the assistant for most of her exam - her dilation wore off in an hour, whereas the drops administered by Dr. Johnson kept my younger two kids' eyes dilated for - I'm not joking - TWO DAYS.) We waited for 25 minutes to be assisted as we chose frames. I say assisted, but we were actually on our own until we blindly chose something and then got rung up. My kids' pupil measurements were never taken, my son's bifocal depth was hastily marked without looking at his eyes, and the guy treated us as if we were inconveniencing his day. I took their prescription to another practice to get their glasses - at half the price that TVC wanted. When I asked TVC for a refund on our order (placed an hour before) it took three staff and finally another doctor to figure out how to issue my refund. WE WILL NEVER GO BACK. read more

Been going there to see Dr. Kim Plattner for the last 14 years and cannot imagine going anywhere else. She is that amazing. Horrible place. No help and total screw ups. The lab screwed up on my lenses twice for my Versace Sun glasses. They would not give me my original lenses that came with my expensive frames. They have no manager there to talk with. They never answer the phone and ignored me now for two weeks. My glasses were there for 5 weeks. I'm very very angry and will not ever go there again. This is my last time using with this place. I used it because is close to my house but I did not have a good experience at all. First of all, the ladies in the front desk need to take a customer service classes. They don't know how to treat customers. The tech lady who performs all the exams is very nice but she should ask first if we want the exams because some of those are not covered with the insurance. The Doctor is very nice as well but he gave me two prescriptions, one progressive usage and another one to use with the computer. I got dust or something in my eye, and it stayed red and irritated for two weeks. Unhappy with my last optometrist, I got a recommendation for Tierrasanta Vision. Like most denizens of the 21st century, I went online to make an appointment. Hmm...ZocDoc screwed up and gave me an appointment with Dr. Hayes at an earlier time than he is scheduled to be in the office. I showed up and they were rightly puzzled to see me. Fortunately, Dr. Hayes got in early and agreed to see me. He was very nice and explained what he was doing and why he was doing it as he examined my poor eye. I never felt rushed even though I know they fit me in, and when I didn't have my insurance card with me, they just said to bring it in the next day. Wow. I was really happy with my experience. Although I can't speak to prescriptions or lenses just yet, I am due for an eye exam and I will got back to see them. Great staff and Dr. Hayes was just what I want in an eye doctor. read more

Let me start by saying, i am a frequent visitor of this place because i have a 7 year old who is very active and is constantly breaking his frames or needs adjustments. Thank goodness for insurance! Drs, front desk & techs are great!! The older female where you get your frames repaired or fitted..on the other hand, isn't very friendly and is very rude. One of the many times I've gotten her, she made a comment that my son's lenses were scratched and when I asked if the lenses he currently has were anti-scratch, she said no. I even asked her to double check the records to make sure because i could've sworn my insurance covered it. She was still adamant and said it wasn't. But when I came back another time, a younger female helped me and offered to order new lens for my son for the same lens since they were scratched and they were supposed to be anti-scratch AND still under warranty. I was a patient of theirs before and have left but came back again after a few years because i couldn't remember why i went elsewhere to another optometrist. I remember now why I left that office for myself but Dr Johnson, Dr Hayes & their team along with the front desk clerks there are sooo good to my son, it's hard to completely leave. I just dread ordering new frames and dealing with lens issues with the older female. I seem to get her a lot. She's really rude and unfriendly. read more

Having lived in different parts of the United States this is the longest I been to the same eye doctor in years. Doc Johnson is a good doctor and I really enjoy my visits (if it's possible to enjoy a doctor visit.) He takes the time to explain my options with contacts and glasses as my prescription changes almost every time. (The joys of getting old) I read where others complain about the desk staff but I personally have never had a problem. Once in a while we have an issue where something on the insurance has been overlooked but never anything that couldn't be rectified. As far as being billed for additional services, I hope people understand you can say no if you want. This is a business, nothing is for free.
