It is surprisingly a terrible ACME. It is small, the aisle are tiny, the stock is disorganized, and the workers seem to be in a zone of their own. Not much care is placed into this place it seems. I was able to get my small amt of groceries and go. The annoying part is that the parking lot is a PAID one. Small, convenient, market if your in downtown cape may. Don't be surprised if you have to get a parking lot voucher . They will stamp you when you check out. Very compact, really good deli. Coleslaw was acceptable. Chicken comes in deep fried baked or mango habanero. Nice big pieces 8 for $9.00 or so. Acme is great for their meat department! Everything seems super fresh and well priced. They have a special that has been going on for years called 4/$20. A customer may choose 4 packages of various kinds of meats/or the same if they prefer. The price is a total of $20 regardless of their individual prices!! If you only stop at Acme for this meat deal alone, you will still come out a winner. Produce seems to be a bit higher in price than other grocery stores but it is fresh. I shopped at Acme last week and came away with two full bags of groceries for $45. Now days that's pretty amazing!! read more

In northern New Jersey you couldn't pay me to shop at Acme but in the retail food desert of Cape May a tiny pay parking lot and tourist pricing will be tolerated for the sake of sustenance and a complete lack of options. Going out to Cape May is like going to a desert with oceanfront properties. I've never seen a paid parking lot for a grocery store before and I've been to Miami where 9x out of 10 you're on a toll highway. This is just absurd. Thankfully I'm on vacation off season so there are no parking fees. The grocery store is small, but they've got everything that a tourist or local could want or need. Growing up in King of Prussia has made me familiar with shopping at Acme. It's no Genaurdi's or Whole Foods Market or even ShopRite or Weis Markets, but it's more than adequate for your groceries which is why it's 5 stars worthy in this oasis of food options other than expensive restaurants. read more

It depends on what location you go to. The booth went. Acme has rude employees. They are inconsiderate of those with disabilities. A while ago, they were updating their foyer where they keep shopping carts they had them blocking the pathway between their store and GameStop. They also think that pedestrians, don't matter when they are potholes in the parking lot. This location is also dirty and I've had to take back food. Going into Acme of Cape May is like going into any small town supermarket in America. They have the standard assortment of name branded groceries and the feel of a local market. The store is layed out with half a dozen registers up front and a dozen or so aisles behind them. At the back, you will find the deli counter. As a local, you could survive with this store but you wouldn't find bountiful choices like you would at a Wegmans or such. For the tourists, this store will fulfill your needs fine for your vacation home cooking. One of the terrific finds was at the deli counter where they offer a chicken salad made with fruit. We often get some whenever we come to Cape May. Parking is a shared lot with other local business. During summer months, as well as holiday times, you are offered 30 mins free parking but after that there is a nominal charge to discourage parking for other tourist attractions nearby. read more

This is a solid grocery store right in the heart of Cape May. It is very easy to get to and has an adjoining parking lot. However, the lot is relatively small and serves a large number of outlets so I imagine in the summers it may get busier. It is free for the first half hour so try to shop fast. The inside is a little dated and reminded me of a small Gristedes or something from New York. That being said, they have most of your grocery and market essentials. I was tasked with ordering cold cuts. The relatively large order I put in was handled well but inefficiently. There were three people behind the counter and I was the only customer. However, I was only helped by one of the deli employees. It ended up taking me 20 minutes to get everything I needed. There wasn't really anything special I noticed about the market. During this global pandemic, seeing a number of the employees wearing their mask under their nose almost covering their mouths, I have changed my shopping habits to Walmart pick-up in Rio Grande. This food store is small so it is packed the brim with food. It has most of your basic essentials, but it is not large like most Acmes. It is one of the only food stores in the area. There is parking, but you can't make a left turn into the lot, so you have to circle around. Once you get into the lot you have to take a ticket. The first thirty minutes are free, but after that you have to pay. You have to go into this crowding store with a list and ideas for what you buy because you will be waiting in the check out forever. The cashiers are really efficient, but there are so many people that shop there. If you are going to Cape May to de-stress and you need to pick up some food, go during less busy times not to stress yourself out. read more

A very convenient location for Cape May visitors who stay in the Historic District. We find the produce and general food prices to be reasonable for a touristy area. My favorite food to buy here is their fried chicken at the deli counter. You can buy 8 large pieces of fresh, crispy and delicious fried chicken here for $5.99 ($4.99 with a coupon from the store's paper you can pick up at the door). Believe it or not, this is the only supermarket in the heart of Cape May for those who need to do some grocery shopping and/or the tourists who have to pick up some last minute items. But for those of us who are used to shopping in the bigger stores with pharmacy departments and possibly more, you may be surprised in a negative way. This store is a lot smaller than the ones that I patronize up North. This is the anchor of the Washington Commons Center. There is no pharmacy in this location. The deli area is in the back. The cash registers are in the front. NARROW aisles of various groceries were in the middle of the store. The produce area was available on the left. I needed to get one item. They actually had it on sale here (preventing the one star rating). The person at the cash register had an okay attitude, but felt a bit overwhelmed. Well, at least I didn't walk out empty handed. All right, let's begin the negativity, with one star removed for each reason. First, the way the patrons had to enter the various sections of the store from the front wasn't very organized. Everyone had to walk through the cash registers to enter while the others were simply checking out. It would be a lot more convenient if this location had a separate aisle for the patrons to simply enter without interfering with customers checking out in the opposite direction, just like the one in my area. I can only imagine how chaotic this would be during the summer time. Second, as what other Yelpers have mentioned, parking is free for only 30 minutes. After that, you have to pay an hourly rate. *Face-Palm* That can really put people on or over the edge, especially when there are long lines present at the store. Needless to say, I was shoved by someone at the exit, and he yelled at me as he ran with his grocery bag, "Sorry Homie - gotta get to my car before I end up paying for parking!" Also, I saw people running toward their cars, with some of them shouting, "I don't want to pay extra for parking!" "Cucumber Floor" - Third, as I was walking through the produce section, I noticed that a portion of the floor was literally covered with cucumbers! Really?! I understand some people don't like to eat this, but why were they all on the floor? Better yet, how come no one barricaded this section to clean this up? Someone can easily slip and fall on these. Only come to this place if you have to. If you can, try to come here on foot or bike. At least you wouldn't have to worry about paying to park if you do either or. I came here by bike. I pulled up to a pole and created my own spot with a lock. Someone else did that too, and actually parked right next to my bike. Also, be mindful of those who are overeager to get to the parking lot to hopefully avoid paying the hourly rates. Overall, I've had better experiences at other locations. read more

Great store but the parking is horrendous. ACME does not own the parking lot, Curtis does. He chose to close the exits to count out a shift change. This resulted in a 20 car pile up. Do not use the Parking lot. You maybe held hostage against your will. read more

Customer service is terrible. They weren't busy and two separate employees wouldn't help me locate what I was looking for. I think I asked very nicely and wouldn't have asked if they were busy doing other things. It would have taken a moment of their time. Acme tops it off by having a huge selection and a very friendly staff. Yes, the aisles are a little tight, yes the prices are slightly higher (maybe) than elsewhere. But, seriously? I was floored at how much could be crammed into this store. Small and dated, but the friendliness of the employees more than made up for it. Limited selection, but had everything we needed for our vacation. My one qualm was being changed $4.00 for parking. Outrageous! The only big supermarket in the center of Cape May. Decent selection of groceries, lots of beach chairs and a small pharmacy. The only thing we really missed was beer. They obviously do not sell alcoholic beverages. Yet, they were the only place where we could find the New York Times. read more

This Acme is okay if you want soda or chips but if you're cooking dinner, you will probably not find everything you're looking for. Plus it's very small. So for those New Yorkers nostalgic for the typical Big Apple supermarket with narrow aisles and general cramped spaces, you will feel right at home. This ACME Markets has been making some great strides lately. Staff friendliness and competency has gone up and they generally have a selection of any basics that you might need. The store is on the small end of things and this causes it to get pretty crowded in the summer but this is still one of the only stores on island to go to so if you are just running in to pick up a few things you should be fine. read more

I visited the ACME while on a bus trip. I purchased some Ivin's Lemon Snaps among other things, they were the best. The store was neat, the clerks were friendly and helpful. There were items here that I didn't know were still in production, as a matter of fact, I didn't even know there were still any ACME Grocery Stores. So this was truly a great experience for me.
