I started ordering Acme Market Clark, NJ when A&P merged. As disabled senior home it was great. Delivery but for the last three months items were missing customer serivce I call. Today Aigist 26 was tje ;ast straw/ Order twice i forgot paper products. Ok two deliveries paper products ok. Last one missing items I called Acme Market explain I was angry. After long conversationman told me if I wasnted cash receipt etc. I wanted the food this is Labor Day I cannot eat on what was delivered. Called Corporate office in Pa.. Overall service, pricing and quality are on par with most of their competitors. One glaring exception is their seafood department... there's never anyone behind the counter. You can lose 20 minutes trying to track someone down. This seems to be the rule more than the exception. Just a suggestion but maybe put a bell on the counter to speed up service? Also, not particularly customer friendly. I tried to order a dozen and a half clams. Only multiples of 12 was the answer. OK, I get it multiples of 12. The last time I went they had bags of 50 for $30. Two dozen please. The guy at the counter told me that I had to buy the whole bag. Really? What the hell am I supposed to do with 50 clams? He did eventually break down and let me buy fewer but why in any service oriented industry, should this be so hard? read more

god this acme is terrible the deli and seafood department is bad poor customer service. tom in the deli lied to me today he said i ordered 2 platters no i only oredered 1. he told me he would give us the second 1 for free since it was there mistake well he told my bf he never said that. i called him back and he said i never said that i can have it for free. the seafood department workers are no where to be found they take smoke breaks when peopel are looking to order. read more

It may sound odd, but as someone who loves to cook and try new foods I always enjoy checking out a new food venue. Whether it is a mom and pop store in Elizabeth or a big supermarket like ACME I always enjoy checking out a food store I have not been to before. I confess I had never been to an ACME before so I did not know what to expect. From the outside it looks like ACME is well maintained. Indeed, as I walked through the aisles I was very happy with how clean and shiny the store is. I visited on a Saturday night and it was mostly empty, which struck me as kind of odd. The biggest cluster of shoppers were around the deli counter. The shelves were all well stocked and even in the early evening most of the stations like the seafood section were still staffed. I noticed the prices were very average and sometimes a bit higher than I am used to seeing at shops like Wegmans or Shop-Rite. They were not outrageous, but they were not huge bargains either. When I was on line I found that the cashier stations were a bit more old style than I am used to seeing nowadays. There was also no self check out, which was a bit of a surprise. ACME was an okay supermarket. If I lived close by I would probably visit more. One last note: I am sad report that they do NOT sell black circles you can throw on the ground and jump through to escape oncoming trains, but hey, no store is perfect. ACME Markets - a display of meat and cheeses - Grocery Near Me - Clark, New Jersey

Would be 3.5 stars, but I'll gladly round that up! This supermarket has opened at A&P's former location. Yesterday was their opening day. But they didn't have any celebrations or gave out any samples or anything like that. It has been years since we've been to an ACME (used to go to the one in North Plainfield before they closed down when I was little), so we decided to come here and see what's new. When we pulled in, we grabbed a shopping cart and got inside. All of their shopping carts were actually the A&P ones, but maybe they'll replace them later on. When we got inside, we were greeted by the manager and then we looked around. We looked to see what was available and the prices. This looked like an average supermarket with pretty much the same basic merchandise you can get at ALMOST anywhere. In fact, the layout was the same as the old A&P. The produce, deli, and specialty coffee areas were located on the left side of the store. The bakery area was located in the back of the store on the left corner. The poultry area was located in the back of the store. The frozen and dairy food areas were located on the right side of the store. The pharmacy and restroom areas were located in the front on the right side of the store. In between those areas were aisles of general groceries (snacks, drinks, breakfast, pasta, baking etc.). MOST of the prices here were actually no different than the ones at A&P. What I mean by that is I've seen cheaper prices at Shop Rite. Sure those prices here may be lower than the ones at Whole Foods, but I can't say the same for Shop Rite. However, we didn't walk out empty-handed. We saw some frozen vegetables that were on sale at a good price (ACME's own brand). We also got some cookies at a regular price that we thought was reasonable (ACME's own brand). We even saw some premium items on clearance, probably because ACME didn't plan on selling any of those in the future, and this was probably the result of the takeover from A&P. This included a tiny selection of Cadbury Ice Cream bars (people went crazy over these!!), a small selection of Talenti Gelato pints, and Nathan's Spicy Brown Coney Island Mustard. Because of the super low prices on those items, and the expiration dates were good, we got 4 packages of those Cadbury bars (some people got 8+), 3 unique flavors of Talenti's gelato (one flavor remained - lol), and one container of that mustard. When we got to the registers, things got pretty interesting. 33% of the merchandise that was scanned rang up prices that were higher than what was marked on the shelf, including some of the clearance items. Fortunately, the supervisor matched all of the prices. They also told us that they were planning on selling the cookies at a higher price (hmm...), but at least they matched it. If that wasn't enough, the manager told us that she marked one of the cookies as FREE due to the error on their part. Now that's great service. Because of the great service we received, I rounded up the rating. But due to the majority of the prices being similar to A&P's, I take one star away. We will only come back if we find a bargain on an item that costs lower than Shop Rite, and I know we will in the future. Welcome to Clark, Acme! read more

I love this ACME! Theres barely no one ever in this store which makes me get my groceries done faster. The environment is always clean and its nice and chilly. The produce is always fresh here. Whatever I buy from the deli is always so fresh. I love their pastries and store baked bread. Prices here are much higher than other supermarkets. read more

Less selection and more expensive than Shop-Rite. The store is much less crowded then other grocery stores, which is due to the prices being a little higher. The deals are slim to come by here. They sometimes have some decent deals on soda but other than that your not getting many, if any, deals. I would suggest you go to Shop-Rite if you have the time and are willing to wait in line for a little bit. You will save much more money and will come home with more stuff as well. read more

I consider this ACME the lesser of two evils. (compared to the Shoprite of Clark) I like the spacious parking lot and the fact that every time I go there it is never really crowded like Shoprite. The prices are higher than Shoprite so I just pick up a few items here and there. The seafood looks very good but last month I walked up to the counter to buy shrimp cocktail and the man behind the counter turned around and just stared at me without saying "hello" or anything for that matter. I felt like I was bothering him and it wasn't like there were any other people at the counter, it was just me standing there. So I order my shrimp and apologized for making him serve me for 15 seconds of his life. I am not sure if he even realized or cared what I had said to him. Acme Clark is my favorite Seafood Stop. Manager Barry is very knowledgeable and ALWAYS has recipes available to help you create Delicious Meals. He will create platters on demand or Special Order. He went out of his way to order Speciality Portuguese Fish for our family gathering STOP in you won't be sorry. He told me today that all Seafood Managers are currently in a contest from now till Easter and he has already pledged that any $ he might win he will Donate to American Cancer Society since he had an immediate family member who is a Cancer Survivor. This review is for ACME's Deluxe Signature Turkey Dinner. It was advertised as "Memorable meals prepared for you", but what is not mention is that the entire meal is made up of prepackaged items. We are so disappointed. We are partly to blame because we incorrectly assumed we were getting a home-cooked type catered meal. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against prepackaged meals, but if we had known that this was not a home-cooked style meal, we never would have ordered it. Update: After serving this meal, I am amending my review to three stars. The turkey was moist and flavorful and with the exception of the stuffing (which lacked body), the rest of the sides were good. We won't however, purchase this dinner again. read more

No matter what time of the day, there are long lines at the check out. They don't have enough cashiers working there but they sure have plenty of workers gathering around the customer service area have never ending conversations. Look over to the speedy check out lines, all three lines are not any shorter than regular lines, could it be because their friendly cashiers continue the conversations with the customers after transactions are completed? Does ACME believe in efficiency?? Train the managers then train the staffs! read more

Wherever ACME could cut corners, they did. Compared to the former A&P, (which I sorta liked since, in comparison with the Clark Shoprite, it was less crowded and had fresher vegetables and fruit) here's where the service has deteriorated: they removed the self-serve checkout terminals, at 5PM they had only one(!) cashier on duty, their plastic bags are flimsy and have a lower capacity than the former A&P or Shoprite, they do not have artisanal breads. They do not offer a customer loyalty card (nor did A&P in reality.). The only improvement is much better lighting over the entrance area that A&P used to feature fresh berries. read more

I regularly find out-dated food on the shelves here. My kid threw up after eating a yogurt I had bought that very day that had expired over a month prior. Also, items will have sale prices listed on shelf tags but when you purchase the item you don't get the sale price and you're told that the shelf tag is "old" -- then why is it still on the shelf???? read more

I've shopped at the Acme in New Providence several times since opening. I'll only go back if I absolutely have to. Prices are very high compared to other options, such as Trader Joe's. Customer service is also severely lacking. On one occasion, I heard 4 employees arguing in the aisle near the deli section. The cashiers I've dealt with don't seem happy or make me feel welcome. I asked a question about the Mixx program and they basically insulted me for not understanding how it works. read more

Also, I went to try to grab milk really quickly as one of the workers was trying to stock and I politely said "excuse me I just need to grab milk really quick". He just stopped and stared at me so rudely. Sorry for trying to shop! And the displays they out in the aisles are unnecessary. It's hard enough to get up and down the aisles when you are looking for an item and that thing happens to be right behind you. It's like they tore the sign off of A&P, polished the floor, then opened it with worse prices. There's an obnoxious amount of signage about their supposedly mind-blowing deals, especially considering 25 bucks worth of groceries can easily run you 50. Their pricing strategy: Overprice everything, lower the price a tiny amount, slap on a SALE! sign. I'll stick with Shoprite. Two stars because the place is clean. Shoprite is a mob scene so I'll pick up something here once in a blue moon to save time, but don't let it go to your friggin' head ACME. (lol srsly though, fix your prices) read more

Just want to put in a good word for Barry in fresh seafood at the Clark Acme. His fish display is clean and well marked. He's always friendly and even gives me cooking ideas for all kinds of fish. Saw a full page ad in today's (11/1) Star-Ledger sale prices for a few items. Thought it would be a good time to check them out. ( Had shopped @ A&P for many years @ this location & when they were on Westfield Ave.) Went in to look around & pick up 2 dozen Lucerne large white eggs which were advertised for $1.49 a dozen. Found the eggs right behind the sign advertising them on sale for $1.49. Picked up 2 packages & brought them up to the register where they rung up as $7.48! I told the clerk that they were on sale for $1.49 a dozen. She turned to the next clerk & asked "know anything about eggs on sale?" He said "yeah, those ain't the ones, we don't even have any of the right ones" I said "These are the wrong Lucerne large white eggs?" He said "Yeah, we can give you a rain check" I told him not to bother, I won't be back! Sad that they have to trick people into shopping with bogus ads! read more
