Prices are insanely high for an everyday supermarket! I guess it is because all the people they have working there?

1 o'clock on a Saturday afternoon and this store has one cashier line open. Pretty long line for that cashier. OK, head to the self check out where there is a customer at every single self checkout and a line of people waiting. The beer and wine aisle, which is an express lane for 15 items or less is checking out the gentleman who has 30+ items on the belt. Not sure why they're checking him out and don't send him to the lane with the one checkout person. Consequently there is a line there too. This is not new. This store consistently has one lane open to be checked out by an employee. I can understand that in the middle of the week when things are slow it's ridiculous for a Saturday afternoon. read more

I have given this Acme a chance time and time again due to convenience but it's time for me to be done and pay the extra few dollars at Whole Foods. The store is run down and the produce is unacceptable, the vegetables on the shelves are moldy. I thought I inspected my broccoli but unfortunately not and i can't make my meal tonight for dinner the way I would like bc the produce I bought yesterday isn't edible. Last straw for me. read more

Does one bad experience make for a one-star rating? It certainly does if the experience may represent bad business practices that negatively impacts consumers... and that's the case here. It's pretty standard for grocery stores to place signs all over the store indicating special deals, special sales on certain merchandise... How often do you check your receipt to make sure those advertised deals impact your final price accurately? How would you feel if some of those deals were never reflected in the price you ultimately pay? Is it possible that a store, or a department within a store, might advertise deals without intending to deliver the sale price to the consumer? I guess it's possible, and I'm certainly going to be more mindful of checking my receipts after purchasing my groceries. I'll let you be the judge yourself in this instance. The Case of Overpriced Bratwurst (I'm a big Sherlock & Poirot fan): When deciding what to grill out the other night, I came across a display indicating a "buy one, get one free" offer for Johnsonville Brats - awesome! I even commented to an employee from the butcher's who was restocking shelves, "wow, you don't often see a special on brats. I guess it's obvious what I'll be grilling tonight." Yes, I'm a bit dorky... so what? I repeated my excitement to the cashier (did I mention that I'm a dork... yes, yes, never mind), who responded that no special price on the brats was showing up in the register. That was odd, because I clearly recalled a large sign indicating a 2-for-1 offer. The cashier (who was really nice) displayed the courtesy to page someone for a price check, which led to a visit from the very same employee from the butcher's, who told us in no uncertain terms that there was no special price on Johnsonville Brats. Not wanting to delay the customers waiting in the checkout line any further. I accepted paying for my full-price (i.e., "overpriced" from my view) brats and loaded my car... still struggling with the questions, "Did I not see a sign specifically indicating a sale on Johnsonville Brats?" I would say that I'm 100% certain I saw that sign, but the doubt creeps in when an employee specifically checks for the sale and unequivocally denies any such advertisement. This then begs the question, "Why would an employee deny the existence of a sale if the sign is obviously displayed?" It just doesn't make sense, unless a department specifically wanted to encourage the purchase of certain items without impairing their margins. Well the high drama of this case comes to a close: After loading my groceries in the car, I walked back and took a photo of the advertised sale (see below); I then waited in line at the service counter until I could explain my case - "I want my $12" (with a nod to the paperboy in the comedy, "Better Off Dead"). In the end, I got my $12 dollars at the expense of 20 extra minutes, a small dose of self-doubt and huge portions of frustration. The question that remains a mystery: "Why would an employee specifically deny the existence of a sale if the sign is obviously displayed?" The lesson: I need to be more mindful of (spot) checking my receipts after purchasing groceries. So ends "The Case of Overpriced Bratwurst" Thank you for your time. I might have found the saddest Acme in the chain. Exhibit A: The crazy man talking to himself and shouting at other shoppers, including myself, while talking on the phone through an earpiece. Exhibit B: the small aisles making passing by other shoppers difficult Exhibit C: the never-been-updated EVER look everywhere. Exhibit D: the saddest state store I have been to in years, roughly the size of a large closet This place reeked of NEXT TO BE SHUTTERED in the Acme Chain. Fortunately for them, there aren't many choices for supermarkets in that area. I KNOW they can do better. read more

This is a wonderful Acme location. The staff is very helpful and courteous from the cashiers to the cart boys. Recently Acme reduced their prices across the board and also did away with the shopper card. I have found that if you shop the deals and store brand you can really save some money. The store brand Essential Everyday is a steal, the spaghetti sauce with basil is a no brainier! The reason that brings me back to Acme over other supermarkets is the quality of their meats and deli. I have yet to purchase a bad steak! I have to give a shout out to the cart boys who keep that crazy parking lot clean from run away carts and are always polite. This is by far one of the best working Acme staff out there and they keep the store freshly stocked and clean! read more

Whenever I need wine, I prefer go to this Acme's wine & spirits store. It's never too and the staff is very knowledgeable when it comes to pairing. I love to see them and ask questions. Really helps since I am not always good trying new things. The actual food store is nice, well organized, clean and I haven't had long waits in line. Sometimes stock seems short but I think that's a winter weather issue. Haven't noticed it in summer. read more

I put in an online order for pickup and the app told me the order was picked up, they finally were able to find the order so it must have been an error on the app which is not even the biggest problem. I called the acme and told them about how my order was already picked up, the man who answered rhe phone that worked at rhe front desk (wouldn't give me his name) told me he "didn't care" "couldn't do anything" and that "theres nobody I can speak to" then hung up on me! This is my regular grocery store and I will now NEVER shop there again and hope this incompetent rude front desk man is fired. As someone who works in customer service, you could not PAY ME to treat someone how he treated me on the phone. read more

The workers here all seem to be moody 24/7. I came today to grab some snacks, my total came up to $9.29. I was in the self-checkout lane. I put in 29 cents before I slipped in a $10 bill. I'm assuming the machine got jammed because the bill slot started blinking red and the machine said I still owed $9. I asked the person watching the self checkout area, I think her name is MEREDITH and she was rude from the beginning. I told her what happened and she was like "so what are you asking me to do?" I explained that I already paid but the machine isn't detecting it so she went to get help. She came back and says to me, "you're just gonna have to wait." A woman comes over, I'm assuming a manager, I think her name was Helen. She was really nice. She opened up the machine and tried to find the source of the problem and after not being able to fix it, she had me bring the receipt and a $10 bill back over to MEREDITH. Keep in mind that the machine already took the 29 cents so I only owed $9. After ringing me out and giving me my receipt and change, I told MEREDITH that I already put in the coins and I should be receiving $1 back. She was super rude about it and goes "well, I rang you out according to the receipt so I don't know what to tell you." I wasn't gonna stand there and get treated like crap some more over coins so I just walked away. This Acme is right by my workplace and I frequent it pretty often. I hate to say I feel like she was racially profiling me but she seemed awfully nice to all the other customers there who happened to share her similar skin tone. Teach MEREDITH to be more polite to customers, despite their skin color or ethnicity. read more

It's probably just the people and the standards of Newtown Square, but everyone was very nice in the supermarket! I'm not use to all the kind service in the city. I thought the supermarket was well kept and they were already tidying and restocking the shelves when I stopped by mid-afternoon. There is some expansion going on in the market, so you'll see some plastic drapes up. This ACME is also nice and convenient because there's a smaller Wine & Spirits connected to the store. The only thing that really prevented me from giving this place 5 stars was that I think Giant has a better selection and more items, especially organic items, and it's only down the street. read more

Sometimes I shop here because it's convenient to my corporate offices located in Newtown Square. On the plus side: it's a pretty big store, they have a decent salad bar and various other gourmet takeaway options, and a wine and spirits store which is not easy to come by in this neck of the woods. It is also convenient to two busy shopping plazas (the one that it's in, and the one across the street) which have useful stores like a McDonalds, a deli, a gourmet bakery, etc. On the minus side, Acme prices are high, the frozen convenience food (like Lean Cuisine, etc. ) tends to be priced higher than other stores nearby, and the bakery section, despite being large, is often sold out of stuff and what remains is often not fresh and not tasting so good. (I recommend going to the German bakery across the street if you can, it's much better.) Also, while this is not the store's fault, the traffic in this particular area at rush hour is gosh awful. read more

Big location with a huge chip/snack aisle and an even huger soda aisle. Not quite as nice as the Paoli ACME, which has lots of prepared foods and sushi. Both locations are filled with a 65+ crowd of retirees, at almost all times. Watch out for them, they're a feisty group. read more

Good old Acme. This place has really good deals in their meat section and the store overall has sales most of the time. It's been going through some minor renovations but it's still looking bigger and more spacious than the other ones I've been to. Staff there is helpful and lines move quickly. It has all I need for essentials and it convenient with its location. The reason it gets 3 is because they need to change the layout and design of acme to more of a modern feel similar to wegmans and Whole Foods as it's more of a welcoming vibe and there are more varieties in food selection. read more

Awful service, save yourself time & energy, go elsewhere. I've came here 4-5 times now because it's closest to my house and not once have I had a good experience. Tonight they told me 15 minutes (which is ok) and I figured I would go to the gym in the meantime. I came back 1.5 hours later & they said it isn't ready, I have to stand here another 10 minutes twiddling my thumbs waiting which is what I was trying to avoid by coming back at a later time. Another time I was here the woman said she knew my doctor and went on assuming about the procedure I was having and asking questions. What happened to patient confidentiality?! Every other time I came the women in the back were completely rude, my prescription wasn't ready when they said it would be or they would wait until I came back a day later for pick up to tell me they didn't have something! That would have been helpful to know the day before so I could have gone elsewhere. Some of it was for pain and some of it I needed within a certain window of time. It's ridiculous. Tonight is the only time they said "feel better" and I think it was because they saw the moody look I had once they told me I had to wait after coming back. read more

This review is specifically for the bakery. I went in early last week to ask about getting a special 2 tiered cake made for my parents anniversary party. I worked with Emily to come up with a design that incorporated my dad's love of old school cake roses. When I picked it up that Saturday it was better than I had envisioned. I have been shopping acme all my life they have great sales 10 fir 10 items I love the lancaster brand meats for the most part the stoire is very clean unfortunally this not your one stop shopping store anymore if you buy something that is not on sale you are probably going to pay more than you would at any other store the produce section is very nice too bad the prices are double than what you pay at gentiles forget about the deli unless you want to wait there's never enough emplpoyees and if there is more than two workers they are too busy doing someething than waiting on the customers finally the checkout same as the deli never enough cashiers when they call a worker up to ring you out they are usually bitching about having been taken away from what they are doing forget about self checkout they are soo.
