The food was alright nothing bad, pretty decent overall. The place itself is nice, clean, and simple. Service was a bit on the slow side, but the staff was friendly and polite. They don't split the bill, but if you're in a group, you can pay separately at the register and just tell them what you ordered. Food-wise, the loco moco was the weakest dish for me. It was basically a hamburger patty cooked well done. It would be better if they made their own patties or gave an option for medium instead of well done. My ribeye was pretty good, the pot roast was solid, and the Asian chicken dish was okay. The artichoke and bread appetizer was actually really good. You want the best country food? The acorn cafe is it. (I once tried black bear diner and it was actually some of the worst and most disappointing American breakfast food I've ever had) The chicken fried steak is INCREDIBLE. The steak itself is so flavorful and juicy. The gravy is beautiful (an excellent roux, not clumpy, doesn't have too much flour, perfectly balanced in velvety decadence). Eggs over easy perfectly cooked two days in a row! And the side fruit was actually very fresh and good! The home fries were good but I personally preferred the hash browns. Crispy on the outside, good ratio so it's cooked properly throughout, not too oily. And the banana foster waffle???? this is America the Beautiful. I don't know how to describe how good and sweet but somehow not overpoweringly sweet this was (I'm someone with a deep sweet tooth for decadent, dense desserts, none of that "not too sweet" classic asian vibe). This waffle is like a doting grandparents' love of spoiling their grandchildren with treats you can only get in nostalgic dreams. It definitely doesn't need any of the additional butter/maple toppings that come with it. It's perfect the way it is. While reading the marquee menu the hostess offered a nice touch, the printed menu. Very good service continued through my visit. This rainy Monday morning the restaurant has few patrons. The three eggs; toast, home fries, and sausage are all options of the basic breakfast. The eggs came unexpectedly with pepper on them but are good. They also offer coffee at a good price. Even without the half off (up to twelve dollar) coupon I'll use, the breakfast is a good value. This is the only good restaurant in the casino. I've been here twice for breakfast. The second time I ordered the two egg breakfast which incurred an up charge for the patty sausage which was half the size of the patty sausage that comes with the three egg breakfast. My third visit is for lunch. It took 5-10 minutes to be seated, and another 5-10 minutes to take my order. It seems food is coming slowly from the kitchen as I wait for the patty melt ordered with mashed potatoes. It's good but I prefer their breakfast. read more

This place is located at the casino... I didn't realize it until we arrived. The service was okay, and the steak and vegetables dinner was a good value for a 12 ounce steak for just $25. We also ordered the pastrami sandwich which I wasn't thrilled with, I think it was a bit dry and didn't seem very fresh. The potato balls are deep fried and were also fairly dry. This area doesn't have a lot of options available after 8pm so if you decide to give them a try make sure when you order you make special requests so that your food will prepared as you requested. read more

We eat at the Acorn or the Noodle Bar several times each week, always To Go, and have done so for several months. The meals are always as ordered and the food well cooked. My favorites are shrimp fried rice from the Bar and the pot roast from the Acorn. We've got a new contender for must eat in town. Last year or two years back, acorn cafe updated their menu, and for majority of the year I ordered takeout for convenience. But recently I had the opportunity to dine in and try their breakfast menu. Our server was Samiyah, she's super sweet and attentive. Gave us the time needed to order and checked in on us through out our meal. We ordered the carnitas scramble w/mini tortilla and banana foster pancake with side of eggs and sausage. Both highly recommend and was really delicious. The pancake tasted gourmet and definitely sets it self apart from local breakfast items in town. The carnitas scramble was delicious and full of flavor and the little tortillas were perfect for making mini tacos. Overall the staff and food are highly recommended and I overheard other diners rave about how delicious their food was ( their entire menu of dinner, lunch and breakfast is served all day long). I will be coming back to try other items, the price of food here is on-par with restaurants around but with better quality ingredients, for now I am glad this will be my new breakfast go-to in town. read more

Terrible breakfast. As I was about to order the build your own omelette, I told the waitress I want to make sure I get an omelette, not a scramble. She said, "Oh, you'll get an Omelette". When the food came out, it was a scramble. All ingredients were mixed in with the egg except tomato and cheese were on top. I called the waitress over and told her this is not an omelette. Its a scramble. She said that's how they make the omelette. Its scrambled then folded in half. She walked away. The hollandaise sauce was a tasteless goo. The hashbrowns were flattened and overcooked to greasy burnt crisps. I felt cheated or lied to. This is the second time in a row I have been served bad food there. The previous visit was for dinner. They were out of mash potato so we got white rice. The rice had a strong vinegar flavor. The waitress told us thats how they make it, its Hawaiian style. We went to the casino for veterans day my husband ordered the stuffed meatloaf and I ordered the pot roast. Waitress came back and said no meatloaf so my husband ordered the ribeye steak instead. He said it was cooked to order and potatoes and squash sides were good. My pot roast was falling apart tender and the mashed potatoes were flavored well and the gravy was flawless. The zucchini for me was a tad bland but my husband enjoyed it and for his veterans day celebration that is all that matters to me. So I am giving Acorn 4 stars for food and ambiance and one for service. Thank you acorn cafe for making my husband enjoy the day. read more

OMG! We just ate at this resturant in Gold Country Casino in Oroville! The Ribeye steak was delicious! $25. Came with potatoes (several variations) baked, mashed or fries and zucchini and yellow squash. I got mashed potatoes with the standard brown gravy, and my wife got the loaded bake potato. Delicious! The squash was al dente with a tasty, light seasoning. I ordered my steak medium rare and it was slightly under but still delicious! My wife ordered hers medium and it was slightly under, but she loved it! Our son got the fish and chips and he devoured it! It was $17. The waiter was attentive and pleasant. We ate at 8:00 pm and there was hardly anyone in the restaurant. Another couple was there and they said the Ribeye steaks are always delicious. They also serve a New York cut. First review for the new cafe? I used to really enjoy going to the casino's cafe before, like 2+ years before, but I stopped going because food started going downhill while prices went up. I saw the new menu online and it looked really great, especially the burgers. So we finally went in a couple weeks after they opened. Started off with happy hour mimosa for 3$ and beer for 2$. I got the "The Best Darn Cheeseburger You've ever had". Girlfriend got the NY steak and eggs. I added their "slab" bacon to the burger. The burger was excellent, although it was pretty sloppily made even for a burger. The meat almost looked dry, but it didn't taste as such. Fries portion was super tiny. The steak and eggs was pretty standard, but definately worth it for only 12$. The girlfriend did mention that the eggs had a really milky taste to it. Overall I give it 5* since I think the price actually went down while quality went up. Also the new decor was almost the same as before except everything looks newer..... service was not great. Been there 2 times the last few months for breakfast. I had the eggs benedict the first time and the ham tasted rancid. Had the veggie benedict and tasted off too, like something was rancid? Perhaps it was the butter? Were they touching the egg with a dirty spatula that had touched rancid ham? The more I think about their food, the more I think about crappy ingredients like from Sysco...good ol factory food. There also was no acid bite to the hollandaise sauce. No lemon flavor! Had the best darn cheese burger. It was ok. Definitely way to much cheese, which is saying a lot, because I love cheese. It was pretty oily and I had to cut most of it off to eat it. Decided to give this place a try when we stopped by Oroville for a show. We were very pleasantly surprised! My SO got the rib eye steak and he said it was great for it only costing $25, it was seasoned well. I only got the little pot roast for $11, but it definitely wasn't little. Tried this place for the first time since the re-opening with my husband. Very clean, new look looks nice. Service was good. Prices were what we expected. About $38 before tip. Food- Adult Tots are a must! Fish & Chips (ordered extra crispy)- really good! We received 3 big pieces, and a stack of fries. Fries are fries, nothing special. Also, came with a small coleslaw, which my husband liked. French Dip - made with Prime Rib, was meh. More of a personal preference then it being bad food. The Prime Rib was a little bit to thickly cut and had a lot of fat. So the texture really got me. The flavor was really good though. Also, came with fries. Drinks- We ordered two sodas, they gave us each a craft, so we didn't have to wait for refills. I really liked that, sometimes waiting for a refill is very frustrating. First time going today for Brunch. I had "The Best Darn Cheeseburger You've Ever Had", it did not disappoint! Brioche bun was soft and buttery, meat was actually cooked medium rare (just how I like it), house cured pickles were amazing and added a great brine flavor and last but not least the cheese skirt engulfed every inch and then some of the burger. They're food quality varies from one extreme to the other. I think it depends on which cook is in the kitchen. One weekend, they'll serve me the best ham and cheese omelet I've ever had and the next weekend, it'll be the worst. Today again, it was the worst. The egg was way over cooked, dark brown inside and out, little ham and only a sprinkle of cheese on the outside. I've never even seen an omelet cooked this way. They apparently overcooked it on one side and then flipped it completely over, over cooked it on that side and tried to then fold it. It was so over cooked, it didn't even want to fold. The acorn café is located upstairs in the Gold country Casino next to the buffet. I've never had to wait for a table,the service has always been exceptional and the food never disappoints. The prices are affordable and the menu is varied. I do wish they would put a fried shrimp dish on the menu that's why I only gave it four stars. read more
