I came in for needles and the lovely (I assume owner) was wonderful. the selection is a lovely mix of classic work horse yarns (Berroco, etc,) but also really nice hand dyed small batch yarns. It's my personal ritual to make a far(er)-flung trek to a yarn store outside the main city area every time I travel. Acorn Street turned out to be the BEST yarn store I have been to. Their selection of yarn is extensive and very organized; Juni and Si was holding a trunk show while I was there. They have a variety of both local and famous yarn (ie Madtosh, Malabrigo, Berroco), and most of all, their staff is the sweetest bunch. But, but! The thing I loved most is the sheer number of needles and notions they carry: both singular sizes and also full sets from different vendors (Lykke, Chiaogoo, KP). You can spend hours here brainstorming a project and buying everything you need to start swatching. I bought some cute pine cone stitch markers, a skein from Juni and Si for some socks and an Addi needle (with which I'm already in love with and off to the races on a new project). Nice, broad selection of yarn. Prices were in line with other area yarn stores. We're marking them as only three stars for being abrupt to the point of rudeness and dismissive with an air of superiority verging entitlement. The signal was we didn't belong in the Ravenna neighborhood. It's a thriving business that clearly doesn't need our trade. There are plenty of other yarn shops in Seattle that are more welcoming with as good as or better selection. We won't be returning. End analysis; a nice but snooty neighborhood yarn shop. Very friendly folks with (Disclaimer here - I'm not a knitter) what appears to be a great selection. My daughter in law really seems to like it and speaks highly of them. She's a real knitter. Although I just went there to buy a gift certificate the young lady who helped me made it a very pleasant and quick transaction that left me with a good feeling. Might sound weird but I just don't seem to see that level of kindness and respect as often these days - I need to patronize more independent businesses like Acorn. We love this store! Ever since our nearby yarn shop closed down, we've been coming to acorn. Even coming from Bellevue it's worth the 20 minute trek. Staff is always beyond kind and never pressures you into buying anything - I never felt like I was being upsold (and I can't say the same about other shops). Twice I have come in with knitting issues and have gotten incredible one on one help with no expectation of payment. Selection is very broad and has fibers at all price points, which makes me feel great about recommending it to experienced and new knitters alike. Shout out to Sue for her amazing guidance - absolute knitting savant and picks out great colors! Also love that the shop carries notions, kits, and other tools; truly a one-stop shop for fiber enthusiasts. Rewards system a plus for frequent shoppers like me. I decided to shop by Acorn Street Yarn Shop on a Thursday evening after I got off work at the UW (the bus you will want to take is the Metro 372 from campus). The store is maybe a 2-3 minute walk, if that, from the bus stop. When I entered, I was quickly greeted by the staff, who proved knowledgeable and friendly. Acorn Street's layout is easy to navigate, with yarn weight progressing around the shop and separate sections for certain brands which are on display. There is a large central table that you can work at and I stayed a bit late as Thursday night is a knitting night. I ended up purchasing two skeins of Mountain Colors Twizzle in Peppergrass and Mountain Tango. There was no pressure to buy yarn and get out, nor was I pressured into buying things at all. I really appreciate the friendly atmosphere and I hope to be back again. read more

This has become my go-to yarn shops! They have an excellent selection, I've been several times to stock up on my favorites. The staff is friendly & very knowledgeable. My only gripe is that it can take quite a long time to check out (and way longer if you need them to wind your yarn - I've started just taking it home and doing it myself at this point), which gets annoying. But, can't begrudge how busy they are, it's a good thing overall! read more

This shop is an absolute pleasure. I have been coming here for 20 years, since I was a teenager. I am only a beginner knitter but I love visiting every winter for the experience of wandering through and enjoying the textures and colors of their beautiful selection. The sensory experience is delightful! I can't help but falling in love with something and taking it home. It is just the right size too: it feels cozy as a yarn store should, but has plenty to choose from. I moved away from Seattle but still make a point of coming in when I visit. I had the experience recently of losing a pattern that I bought on my last visit and I was so impressed that one of the employees helped track down the pattern over the phone, even with my vague description. While inventory is essential to a business, customer service should be the top priority. December is a high volume month for most businesses. The tension of scheduling staff for inventory hours and addressing customer volume is a tough juggling act for any store. Acorn Street handled it poorly. I was excited to have purchased two gorgeous yarns for my projects, and disappointed to find that customer service has a mysterious limit, which once exceeded, is an additional expense. It was my first time coming to this place. And I was amazed by how much stuff they had. I hade to walk 2.8 miles there and back. But it was so worth it. The lady that was helping me was great and very friendly knew what I need when I did not. Because I am new to the yarn world!!! But she did not try to sell me anything I didn't need and got me what I needed fast and friendly. She asked me how things are going in my life and seemed like she really cared about my life. In terms of customer service, I would say that this place has the best customer service out of all the yarn stores that I've been to in this area. Every time I've been here, I've always been asked if I need help finding anything, and not in that slightly passive-aggressive way where you can tell the sales associate is NOT actually interested helping you. The times I've been, the people here seemed genuinely interested in helping me when I did need help. My most recent experience was when a younger woman gave me some suggestions when I didn't find the yarn I needed for a project. Additionally, one of my friends who was with me got some advice from another woman regarding a project she was considering. This store is a bit smaller than the other stores I've been to, but it's a store I look forward to returning to. read more

After just finishing my first knitted sweater (which I happened to be wearing) I decided to splurge on some special yarn for my second sweater project. I've admittedly been intimated by specialty yarn stores and have defaulted to Joanne's for most of my supplies. I walked in with a project pattern printed out and wide eyes. I was greeted immediately and given expert advise in choosing appropriate yarn and needles. The staff were supportive and interested. I wish I lived in Seattle so I could come in for classes and hang out with these gals all the time. I do not enjoy leaving negative reviews, however, I have been to this yarn shop many times over the years. Despite the new ownership, the customer service has not improved. I have never been treated well in this shop. The staff is not wonderfully helpful, nor has any employee gone out of her way to help me. The staff has always been rude and condescending.
