Super cute tasting room that doubles as a used bookstore and hangout spot. Easily the best little spot to study or meet a friend. They sell coffee beans, fresh coffee, canned coffee, tea, sparkling water, and yes books. I'm not the biggest fan of their coffee though. It's hard to describe but for me, the flavors just tend to be very nontraditional. It's that sort of taste where you say "interesting" but don't reach for another cup. My espresso sort of hit me in the back of the mouth with bitter and didn't leave enough positive tasting notes to win me over. My bagged coffee turns out to just be okay. I will say that could be my own fault - this is the first time the tasting notes on the bag were accurate! I'm used to places where you'll pick up a bag that says "dark plum, viscous" and get the coffee home and it tastes totally different. My coffee was exactly as described on the bag - maybe once I make the adjustment to descriptions that say what they mean, I'll find the right coffee for me. One oddity is that they don't vacuum seal their bags, even though their bags have the vacuum seal adapter. I'd like to see them bother with this, since it might kick their beans up a notch. read more

Definitely know their coffee is made fresh. Fascinated by their interior design, pretty hipster like vibe, large book shelf display of books on the walls. Extremely spacious, lots of table and would be a good work from home out of the office space. I got the nitro cold brew - one word - strong. Totally enjoyed my visit to Acoustic Java in October 2021! Best aspect, you feel like you're sitting IN the roasting area, because you can watch the action from behind glass. Great place to park yourself and get some work done (computer, reading, etc). In-store is nice layout of ALL their coffees and you can order a cup or pot of any of their many choices (something you generally cannot do in other coffee shops that have this many options - try doing this at Starbucks!) Food was unique as well - several interesting options of scones and other baked goods. This was one of the best coffee roaster/shop experiences I've ever had. I was looking for a local bean roaster to supply my Home Espresso hobby. Fist impression when I walked in was very relaxing . Then I was greeted by friendly staff. And they asked me if I had any questions. I said sure I would love to talk beans. And the gentleman was very knowledgeable and very friendly. I asked if they had any Brazilian beans roasted. And he said yes we just did some in the back room. and got me two bags and sealed them right in front of me. Now that's Fresh. I enjoyed a nice hot latte poured with art and skill . Starting this review by saying that I love their coffee. But my experience yesterday left much to be desired and it was our first interaction with the owner himself. Knowing he was the owner I expected more from him, you would think an owner would want to give paying customers the best service possible, however I've gotten much better service from everyone else I've interacted with here, and the main st location. Looking over the menu, we noticed they have Iced Espresso listed as small, medium, and large, so out of curiousity I ordered one Large Iced espresso with caramel (we had been told at their other location they make it themselves? I don't know whether thats still the case or if its only at main st.) The owner asked me what I meant by large espresso, and I asked him what he meant by it as it was listed on their menu. He said something about the guy who writes it on the board was not clear? Ok I get that a mistake. So, I amended my order to A double double over ice with caramel. Both my bf and I ordered the same thing. And even confirmed after he repeated it back as just two double doubles over ice, alright it happens. But as we watched him make our drinks we noticed he hadnt added any. So we asked, and he said he hadn't put that in. And we asked if we could get some, and he seemed thrown off by the question, then told us it would be a dollar each. So I spent approximate 14 dollars on two Double Doubles Summary: the customer service given by the owner was meh, he made us feel as though his mistake (not getting our order right) was our fault. I'm fairly certain we were overcharged. And even though I love their coffee, I'm not sure I'll be back. read more

I have been going to Acoustic Java for years now. They are a bit pricey but they're coffee has always made it worth it, that is, until I ordered the Spiced "Cider". For almost $4 I was hoping for at least some semblance of cider however what I received was anything but. It is literally hot water with four pumped of spiced flavoring. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? This place was my favorite and now it's too inconsistent. Newer staff, who are really nice and seem to be trying their best, and who've been there for many weeks now, still seem to not know what some menu items are by name or their type and charge for the wrong thing, and still seem to be making drinks wrong. It almost seems like management didn't train them to be comfortable enough and there isn't usually someone there at the counter to help them when there's more than one person on. Please make sure your baristas are more confidently trained and taken care of better. read more

My girlfriend and I were visiting friends in Worchester, and we researched coffee places to go visit. AJ came up VERY highly rated in our search, so we decided to stop by... we were NOT disappointed! The staff was VERY helpful in helping us decide which coffee to get... he even came by our table and offered us a mini-tasted of one of the origins we decided not to go with. WHO DOES THAT?! Great job by him! The owner/roaster came by and, when he heard that we home roast, started to ask us a bunch of questions. He was VERY engaging, always had eye contact with you while he talked, and was passionate about what he does. After that interaction, and after tasting a couple of coffees, we ended up buying a bag of the Three African blend. He invited us to stop by the roastery when we had time... so we did a couple of days later. The gentleman working at the roastery was also very friendly and helped us decide on which origins to try. After he made our drinks, he showed us their roasting space. He explained their process, talked about the roasters, etc. We had a great experience there as well. Overall, we had such a blast! The product is AWESOME! The staff is AWESOME! I highly recommend stopping by if you're visiting from out of town or, if you live in the area, making Acoustic Java your coffee shop of choice! read more

Such great coffee! My boyfriend and I have a policy of finding good coffee shops and donut joints to visit when we travel. We decided to give Acoustic Java a try, and it was the perfect choice! We stopped at the Brussel's location on a Sunday where we had pour-overs, and met the owner (I believe) Great guy, and great to talk to! He invited us to check out their roasting location while we were visiting. We loved our pour-overs so much we grabbed a pound of the Three Africans blend. A couple of days later we stopped by the roaster's location. Equally great experience! Everyone we talked to at both locations were so friendly, and definitely knew their coffee! Wow, I feel like I've visited an entirely different establishment from the lucky people who wrote these rave reviews! I sincerely wanted to like this place, as I'm a great supporter of small/local businesses, and want to find an alternative to chain coffee stores. I have purchased coffee and tea four separate weeks now (different days each time); I've yet to experience anything even close to what some other customers have described. In terms of ambience, the establishment has plenty of hip, industrial charm. I have not witnessed actual coffee roasting, but the glass window viewing area is a cool feature. The past two months have been unseasonably cold, and while drinking my hot beverages, I was grateful for layers of clothing and my winter parka. It was pretty cold inside, and the ceiling fans made it even colder. It also made working on my laptop and trying to read difficult, due to the annoying continual shadows cast by the fans onto to the seating areas below. I found a few books I would have liked to purchase but when I inquired about prices, the barista told me he had no idea how much they were, and did not make any effort to ask anyone else. On my third visit, a young female barista informed me that the cost of their used books is "same as Amazon." I replied, "Do you mean you look each title up on Amazon and the price is whatever it is on their website?" She said yes, which floored me, as this not only makes things super confusing, but doesn't take into consideration the huge range of condition (from decent to horrible) that these books are in. Most places that offer used books for sale post a price per hardcover and a price per soft cover. To sum up, I did not receive a greeting or a smile on any of my visits, in spite of my own friendliness, aside from baristas asking what I wanted and promptly punching my order into their tablet. I also just found out they have a customer loyalty program which I was never told about. I've purchased 7 beverages altogether in my visits, so I'd be well on my way to a free coffee if I'd known about this benefit. All in all, I'm mostly sad and disappointed. I hope the customer service improves and that perhaps they can post a better, more reasonable book policy for the benefit of future customers. read more

This place is very cool and a MUST for anybody interested in a nice coffee house vibe. It looks like a brand new place and also very clean. I hope they keep it up. This is a really great find and surely will become a popular spot with the nearby Clark and Holy Cross students. Coffee drinks are their specialty, but they have umpteen different loose leaf teas, fruit smoothies, juices, sodas, etc. to try if you so choose. Their food selection is limited which is a bit of a bummer, but there is only so much you can do without a kitchen. Even so, they do offer bagels, muffins, toasts, croissants, and cookies. They have eight small tables for seating and a healthy library of used books for purchase. This is another great spot in Worcester to add to your list and if you didn't know it was here you would NEVER EVER stumble upon it! The road getting here is atrocious, but certainly not their fault.
