I am so disappointed with this HVAC company. It's stuff like this that gives HVAC companies a bad name! I have been their customer for years, using them for work at two different rentals, including installation of an entire new system in one of them, less than 7 years ago. Last week this system showed some problems. I actually forgot it was under a 10-year warranty and called another HVAC company. Their tech came out and told me what was wrong (clogged coil) and suggested I use ACTexas to fix the part (under warranty) since they were the original installers. This tech didn't even charge me for the service call, which is unheard of! When the ACTexas tech came, he confirmed it was the coil, but instead of suggesting the replacement they tried to sell me an entire new HVAC system! When I insisted on replacing just the coil (under warranty) they wanted to charge me an outrageous labor charge, far above the national average, and again tried to convince me to buy a new system. I declined. They then tried to scare me into buying a new unit stating that entire unit was old, over 10+ years and probably would need replacement soon anyway. Hello?! Did they forget they installed it themselves 6-1/2 years ago? I declined again pointing out what they said was not true. They then dropped their price for the coil installation, twice (!), but still nowhere near what it should be. I went back to the other HVAC company. Those people offered to do the coil replacement for a lot less money. (They did not know how much ACTexas charged). They came to do the job and while they were there another part started to fail. They actually ran out immediately and got that part and installed it free of charge as well! On a side note, I was told by two different HVAC companies who looked at this particular unit that it was an inferior brand sold to me at the time by ACTexas. Needless to say, I will not be using ACTexas ever again. read more

My furnace was making a loud noise. Seth came to my house and told me that my blower wheel was warped and banging into the blower housing, which bent the housing. He said I would need to replace both. He came back two days later and replaced them, which only took about an hour. And they gave me a senior discount. Seth was very polite and professional. When I called around for a rough quote the other companies were evasive about price. They all pushed to send out a rep for a free quote. I did get a quote from an American Standard AC dealer for a 5 ton condenser and it was very high. I called ACT and the person answered on the second ring and was very transparent. No BS evasive attempt to get me a "free on site service quote," just an honest answer with a complete price quote over the phone, which was $1,800 less for a 2 seer better unit. Carrier or Bryant not an off brand. She said Mitch could be there in 30 minutes for a formal quote. 32 minutes later Mitch arrived. Same no BS approach, just straight forward communication and no pressure. Gave me a written quote which was the exact price the lady on the phone gave me. That was 4:00pm. Said they would be back at 8:30 AM. After a very hot night their truck rolled up at exactly 8:28 AM. Two hours later they were done and the house was cool. Great people. Mitch was there with his assistant not some "B team" once they had a sale. They remove their shoes, explain everything in detail and DON'T try to sell you service plans prepaid in the future. He even took the time to show me their high end digital pressure gauges and showed me the pressure reading on the gauge was the same number on the specification plate. The unit was brand new 2016 unit in the original packing. For no extra fee they even replaced my crusty old concrete pad under the unit with a brand new one, just did it without me having to ask. To top it off before he left he offered to service my 20 year old upstairs unit no charge. I sort of figured I would get the scare tactic to buy another unit. They took the old unit apart and cleaned it up free. When I asked him how it looked he said "pretty amazing, 20 year old unit still going strong. Just call us if it ever dies." They cleaned up completely and drove away. You can believe me, when that upstairs unit finally does die I will definitely call these guys back! read more

I'm giving only 2 stars... that is not good and not totally bad. The technician did come by on the day we set up, he came early. My husband was at work so I had to deal with the appointment to fix our air conditioner. It was not cooling, thermostat was 86 in the day set at 75. He was professional, came looked at the system outside. The tubes were frozen. Went to his van came back to look at system in the attic. Comes down, tells me they don't make our system anymore and goes back to his van. Comes back with a quote for a new central air unit...$6000 - 8000 (estimate) I ask if there is a quick fix for it because we don't have that kind of money and it was getting to hot for our comfort. He says the lines are frozen and it's useless to try to put Freon in until the lines thaw out. So I tell him, I have to talk to my husband about that quote. I offer him a soda because it's Houston hot outside, he takes it and leaves...husband comes home and ask if he put any Freon into the system, i said no. I told him The technician said the lines was frozen and it be useless to tryto put freon in. (this is my story and not exact words. But this is what I understood from the technician) Granted this is the third year we had a tech come and just put Freon during the summer . I wasn't there the 2 times a tech came out, husband was there. Husband gets mad at me because I just spent $60 for a quote and no service (Freon). Husband calls the company, they connect us to the technician who came by the house. He makes it right with my husband , by telling him he'll come back on Wednesday (06/06/2018) to put Freon minus the service call fee. That was on 06/04/2018, well it's Thursday (06/07/2018) no calls or response I felt bam boozled and taking advantage of for Being a female and trusting the professional ..it takes 30 minutes to an hour to thaw those hoses before u can put a pound of freon in....The more you know prevents people from taking advantage of you because of your gender... yes we have a leak, but a pound of Freon would of at least kept the house cool til the end of summer. I have changed my 2stars to 3stars. They did try to make it right by not charging me a service fee the second time around as well as when I called the first time. read more

The AC went out at our townhouse in East Downtown. We first found out about ACT Air Conditioning through a referral from a friend. We did our due diligence and continued our research on Yelp. So far, so good. Great reviews expect for that one from Cameron . We didn't let that deter us from going with ACT Air Conditioning. We called their service line and spoke with someone named Teresa. She said that one of their technicians would call us back within an hour. Sure enough, someone named Mitch called us and he was able to come over to our home and evaluate the problem within the same day! Turns out we needed to replace the entire unit. Eek. Mitch was very courteous and was able to explain why we needed a new unit. He was able to show us pricing all within the same day. He gave us choices and we decided to go with the higher end option b/c it used a non ozone depleting refrigerant and it would last twice as long as our old one. Mitch came back in 2 days with his crew and was able to replace and install the new until within hours. Awesome! A few days later, we felt like the AC wasn't cooling down the home like it used to. Maybe it was paranoia but we decided to call them back. The next day, they came by and retested the temperature on each floor and made minor adjustments (something to do with the dampers). Quick reply from ACT they were able to come out the same day. ACT looked at outside portion of the upstairs AC unit. A comprehensive diagnosis was not done because I had to call them out again due to the fact it was not properly cooling the upstairs. Had him come out paid the service fee again and was told the circuit board and blower fan motor needed to be replaced and it would cost thousands $$$. Called another company to get a second opinion and was told the wire from the control board to the unit was broken. The A/C tech repaired and was out the door in under 2 hours and it cost only $180.00. I feel like ACT air conditioning did not know what the issue was and was just trying to replace multiple parts to see if it worked which I think is unethical to have some pay thousands bc you don't quite know what is wrong. So glad I got another opinion!!!! I gave them 2 stars because the tech was very nice and did respond quickly to both house calls. read more

The company finally made contact, and on a Sat no less. I give them an extra star for making the effort and making it out on a Sat afternoon. However, they put 3lbs of freon in my unit and it's now worse than ever. I know zero about the functionality of an a/c system; but I'm hoping they just forgot to "switch" something back on after adding freon. But our poorly performing unit has now gone from bad to worse. Whereas before it was not cooling well (78) now it's blowing warm outside air (82). And since it's a weekend, we're stuck with it until they can get someone back out. We have gone thru several AC companies in the Cypress and now the Spring area. Most of them you feel like you're spending too much money and throwing it to techs that are looking at a log sheet of prices and parts. ACT is the exception. Mitch's customer service makes all the difference. I called this last time and he was here within two hours on an extremely hot and busy day. He checked the units out and gave me his recommendation for all my service options. I chose to have the downstairs evaporator coil, drain pan and compressor unit replaced. He had the appointment scheduled and the next busy day the crew was here bright and early at 7 AM, the promised appointment time. The installation was a breeze and they were done around lunchtime. I assure you that the price I paid for today's service was a steal and you wouldn't receive such a deal anywhere else, at least not in my experience. Beware of this business. Been working with them for service for my rental units, just last month had them out their they charged me to clean inside unit and for 3lb of coolant. The tech took 10min servicing unit. Didn't do no cleaning, coils looked untouched. And ac was still not cooling. Called them and they came out again telling me I need a whole new unit. I called my other ac guy I use and he came out and told me they over charged the coolant, and ac companies will do this so your unit burns out. So I basically paid this company to not fix my ac but to sabotage it. Stay away from this company!!!! read more

Before purchasing my home, I used ACT to inspect my HVAC system during the home inspection process. Boy was the technician thorough!!!! Not only did he inspect all the ductwork and outside units, he found a freon leak in the upstairs attic unit which allowed me to negotiate a bit off the purchase price. Besides the leak, the system was given a healthy rating and 1+ year later I have not had any issues thus far, giving me upmost confidence in ACT's ability to diagnose issues. If I have any future needs, I will certainly be using them again. I contacted the top three HVAC companies in Spring on Yelp about a furnace replacement quote. Two tried to upsell me a bunch of things I didn't need or want. One company was trying to install a brand of furnace I had never even heard of. ACTexas was one of the top 3 on Yelp and they quoted me a Carrier furnace, media filter and new return all for less than the other guys wanted for just the furnace install. They were on time, cleaned up when they were finished and gave me a discount for paying cash. Furnace is working great and came with 2 year labor, 20 years parts warranty! Rest company and experience all around. Nobody wants to snap off thousands of dollars on home repairs, but these guys made as easy and painless as possible. read more

I wish that my ratings of AC Texas agreed with everyone else on here, but i cannot even get them to call me back to do business with them, so my feedback would actually be zero stars if yelp would allow it. Our HVAC system went out last week and we found out that both zones need replacing. It was in the low to mid 90s everyday with typical Houston gross humidity and i have a stay at home wife and 3 children under 5 years old, so needless to say this situation is inconvenient and urgent. I yelped local AC companies and AC Texas had five stars and is only 2 miles from our house. I prefer to do business local whenever i can, so i was really excited to find such a high rated company so close. Then i tried calling them three times last week and they never called me back. 3 times. I guess they don't want my money. I never call anyone that many times to give them my business, but i wanted to see what all the hype is about, and now i see that it is just that. Empty, unwarranted hype. It actually makes me question the rest of the reviews on here for legitimacy and accuracy when they say that ACT is "courteous" and "responsive," because what I've seen from their behavior up to this point is quite the contrary. They are rude and unprofessional for not even giving me the courtesy to return my calls. I suspect that it's friends and family of the company leaving positive reviews to trick people into trying to do business with them. All that i can say from my experience with this company is to take your business to someone who wants it and places value in their customers. AC Texas is not that company. read more
