Wow. This was so fun and really unique. My husband and I went when we were visiting and had a blast. Lockers were included and all the games had explanations before and/or at the beginning if it was your first time. You will use a wristband for your locker and for scanning the games to play (it also tells you how much time you have left). Would definitely recommend layers because you WILL work up a sweat. It was a lot of fun and a good variety. My husband's top two games were different from mine. You can play cooperatively with who you are with or versus (and the game is colored blue for co-op and red for vs). Workers there were great at answering questions. Everything was clean. This was so much fun! My cousins decided to have a session at activate and we had a blast playing all the games together! The first levels were easy to help us understand the rules of each game but it was nice how quickly the difficulty ramped up! I absolutely love this place. I was introduced to it through a Yelp Elite event and immediately I was hooked. I couldn't wait to bring all sorts of people here. This is a super family friendly place and you can have fun no matter the age. And you can even break a sweat! So make sure you wear athletic type clothes and shoes. The games are very fun and engaging. There's different levels of difficulty. We haven't quite gotten to the high levels yet! And the whole experience flows pretty freely. Games last a couple of minutes and you can go between games super easily. You can join other groups to get more people, if they are cool with it, or you can just duo the games. It's never a long wait to get into a game, and even if there is a delay you can just try another one. Super fun concept. Yes!!! Great fun!!! We were confused at first because there was just 2 of us so we couldn't get into any of the games without other people allowing us to join their group!!! You must have 3 people to play any game! Finally we asked a worker how we were supposed to play anything if other people have to agree to let us in their group to play... he told us we could go to the front desk and tell the that we only have 2 people and they will make it so we can play with just the 2 of us. Took my team from work. We originally booked a few weeks ago but I was sick so they let us reschedule to today at 5pm. We had a blast. There were 5 of us, which was great because we could all participate together in the same room. Lots of game rooms, seems like we went at a great time because they were not very busy and got to go into most rooms immediately. They have plenty of lockers to put your goodies. Highly suggest wearing active wear or bringing a change of clothes. Tennis shoes are a must. You will get sweaty! Why go to the gym for cardio when Activate exists!? Seriously, this place is absolutely a blast! There are a ton of good reviews on here so I will stick to being more informational. There are 11 rooms, all of them being active, but some more than others. Even each room has different games you can play which changes up how active you need to be. For example, Hoops has a traditional game where you have to make so many baskets within the time limit. But, it also has a trivia game where its about answering the question correctly. Trench has a game where you have to crawl across the ground avoiding lasers to get to the guns, but some of the games in Trench do not have you do this. This is the key to making the most of your time at Activate. Find the games that allow you to rest, but still always be in a room. Push is the best for this, I think. A grid of buttons on the wall and most of the games are about finding patterns or logic puzzles. Instead of resting up on the benches in the lobby area between games, you can rest your body and use your mind. Each game is not balanced for every group size. Which is fine, but its good to know going in. Laser is best with literally one person who is good. Its about getting to the other side and clicking a button without breaking any laser. The more players, the more chances of failing. We tend to enjoy 3 players the most, but I feel like most were designed with 4 players in mind. There are clean restrooms with water fountains. The staff have always been helpful and nice to us. The games do break from time to time. Buttons get stuck, balls get lost, but thankfully its not as common as you would think, and the staff fix them very quickly as long as someone informs them. For new players, you get physical rewards for increasing your rank which is done by getting points. Activate gives out branded shirts, basketballs, water bottles, etc. You get the most points by completing each level for the first time, for each room, and each game type in a room. On the control panel before you start a room, click the level, if you have a score you wont get as many points as you would if you try something new. This is the quickest way to rank up. Activate Games is a new age style arcade experience that involves a very hands on and physical and super fun experience. This location is in Lousiville off hurstbourne lane. I recently attended a birthday party here for my daughters friends and it looked fun so I paid my own way to join in on the activities. So you get a wrist bands and pay $25 and get like a little over an hour of time to participate. They give you wrist bands and you register your name to an email to create a player account. They have 11 rooms with different themes (could be a target shooting and lazer dodge, basketball hoops, throw ball at target, wall climbing, hide and seek, etc). Each room has 4 diffrent style games for that area. You choose the one you want and choose a 1-10 level. 1 being easiest. All rooms are kind of a team building Setup and you can have as many as 5 people in a room. The rooms all have names to them and you walk up to a device on the wall and scan your wrist band and your name will pop on the screen. All players wanting to participate will scan the badge. The screen will have your 4 game styles along with a small how to play description. You have your 1-10 levels at the bottom and once all is selected you press start. If nobody is in the doors will pop open. If the room is occupied you will wait a moment until they are done. All games are timed and uses lights or colors as prompts. Usually green is what you can step on or climb on or can go. Red is bad and blue is a target to try and hit Depending on each game. All games are timed and only a min or so per level. If you fail level you get zero points. If you pass level you get points and as long as nobody is waiting behind you then you can hit a button on the wall to try the next level. Your time only comes off from actual game play time. So go at own pace. But once the doors open your time starts quick so you have to get through the doors quick. I will say participating here was some of the most fun I've had In a long time. Me and my kids loved this. Our personal favorite was the "seek" room where we played a game where you have an eye on each of the 4 walls with with buttons underneath all over. In the center of the Room is a wall column. So the goal in this is to hit all the lit up buttons and count in order up to 15. All the buttons light up and have numbers above them and spread out over all 4 walls. Every few seconds you will have a warning about the eye opening up and shooting a laser out. You have to get behind the column and avoid the laser and strategize who is going for the next available numbers when the eye shuts back off. It was a blast but so was all the other rooms as well. As you complete levels you earns stars. You have a kiosk out in main lobby to check your status. They have a reward programs as you level up based on earned stars where you get prizes. For instance we reached level two which means when we checked out we got "activate" water bottles. The cool thing is when you get the prize you don't start over on the next visit. You just work your way to the next prize track. So you can eventually earn all prizes. I believe the final level prize is 50 percent off for life. So pretty cool perks system. Part of the admission is you do get a personalized locker to put your stuff in for safe keeping. You can also go to a photo area in the center of the lobby and scan your wrist band to get a free special photo emailed to the attached email You registered with. Overall this was an amazing experience and we had so much fun. We absolutely will be back and back often. Such a cool, innovative and fun experience. Glad we have one here in Lousiville. read more

Really cool place to go for all ages! It's tucked away off Taylorsville and Hurstbourne right next to a mattress place. Parking is easy. Tons of spots in their parking lot. It's $25 for 75min, but you can pay an additional amount for more time. You get lockers to secure your things and you must sign a waiver. They give you white wristbands to play the games and blue ones open the lockers. There are 11 rooms and you can pretty much bounce back and forth playing in any order and go back to any room as many times as you like within the allotted time frame. You can even play one game over and over if no other group is behind you. You also play in groups. Max is 5 in each room. Games last 1-2 minutes. It all seemed like games similar to like Chuck E Cheese or Dave & Busters, but for adults. It's good for families too. If you're good at video games or somewhat athletic, you'd do well at the games first try. It's mostly just being able to react quickly. Like other reviews say, it is going to make you sweat, but not as sweaty as a HIIT class. It's similar to very low intensive cardio or when you sweat taking a walk for 2-3 miles. You sweat and burn calories over time though. My friend tracked that we burned around 400 ish calories. Not bad! They keep the rooms warm which probably help to crank up the pressure and the calorie burn. The games are fun. Throwing basketballs, jumping over moving lasers, matching patterns, shooting a laser at a target, and "climbing" (it doesn't go that high at all). I will say that it's probably not a place for people who are sensitive to sensory overload. As a glasses-wearing person, a basketball hit my glasses and made them lopsided. So be careful with some of the games with balls! You can also choose different levels for games and compete against your teammates if you want. Not all of the games give you a level choice but it goes from 1-10 with 10 being the hardest. We chose as high as 5. The higher you go, the faster the game gets and the more you sweat. You can also earn points. General points as a team and individual points that get you prizes. They accumulate, so you still have them at your next visit. We came on a Sunday a night as a group of 20 around 6 and it was busy! But as the night progressed, the number of people dwindled and we were able to play games multiple times in a row. My friend said this was the busiest she had seen it and she mostly comes during Friday or other weekdays. Another note, I felt overdressed as I pretty much wore my workout gear. Prob not necessary to do. A t shirt you don't mind sweating in or a dri-fit top works. I wore pants and was fine in it. My sister wore a short-sleeved shirt but kind of scraped her elbow in the laser game where she crawled on the floor. A long sleeve tee would do or just be careful when crawling! There's no snacks or food here. You can probably bring water around with you just in case you get thirsty. Good times! read more

My family (wife and 11 yr old) went to this one evening when we were in town attending the National Archery Tournament. We had such a great time, because it was active both physically and mentally. The plethora of different games really kept us engaged and we never got bored. My only word of advice is do not get overly competitive and nostalgic about the scene in Resident Evil where the laser cuts the people in half, in the one laser room where you avoid the lasers. My Beverly Hills Ninja looking ass did a Jackie Chan forward roll to avoid the laser and rolled right over my wife's foot, causing an injury that put her on crutches the next day. I don't care if you have the Mission Impossible theme song in your head, do not do the forward roll or other gymnastic level evasion techniques unless you're an actual ninja! Otherwise, highly recommend this for a family outing for a family that has kids from the age of 3rd grade or older. read more

Activate is SO. MUCH. FUN! We had been to the Chicago location before, and we drove to this location from Indianapolis just so we could play since it's a bit closer. If you are anywhere in the midwest, it is worth the drive to come check this place out. We went on a Saturday afternoon with a group of 4 of us and had a reservation- I am glad that we did- it was very busy! The process is as follows: You each get a wristband that is then linked to your account. You put your stuff into a locker that you also have a wristband to open, and then go into their hallway of game rooms and choose a room that you want to go into. You each scan your wristband on the screen in front of the room, and then pick what game you want to play while you are in there, and what level. You go in, follows the instructions, the room instructs you to leave when you are done, and then you can go choose a new room! The rooms are so well designed, and very cool. Most famous is their grid room- it is a room with a bunch of light up squares on the floor and, depending on the game you chose to play, you stay on the green squares, stomp on the blue squares, and avoid the red squares in a timed fashion while not losing your lives. You go up levels this way and earn points. Other rooms included a laser room (imagine you are in a spy movie!), a basketball room, a climbing wall room, a simon says room, etc. Each has several games you can play either competitively with your teammates, or against one another. The screen shows you how many minutes you have left to play and keeps track of your points, which are then posted on a leader board for the day across all their locations. The cool thing is that once you have an account and unlock levels and accumulate points, it is always available for whenever you go back and at all of their locations. Last time in Chicago, they gave us a token that we brought to the Louisville location for an easy login. It kept the levels we had unlocked and our info. We are a group of mid 20-somethings and it was the perfect activity for us- though definitely wear tennis shows and active clothing because you get moving!! While there were a lot of children there, I do not know how easy it would be for children to play these games because a lot of them require intense communication, collaboration, and concentration. But if they are having fun then I guess that is what it is about! Now I will say, this locations seems to be a bit older, or maybe just a bit more used. We were most excited about the grid rooms, but they were basically unplayable because one or more of the grid tiles were stuck down, and so it would not register that we were on the green and done with the level, thus running out our time, or it would count it as a red tile and we would lose the level. Very sad! The laser room was open in the beginning, but then got shut down while we were there- maybe for maintenance or something? It was also very busy, almost every room had a wait of 1 or more groups. You only had to wait about 3 minutes though so it wasn't too bad, but that does mean if you lose a level you have to leave the room and get back in line rather than try again. But maybe if you go on a weekday it would be less busy. read more

After being lucky enough to enjoy Activate at a Yelp event, I brought back my family of boys and best friend. Activate was gracious about moving our reservation (as promised) when I decided a Saturday would be better than a weeknight. The games are interactive and I wasn't sure I'd have the energy after work/school. We booked for Saturday at 2p. The team also was great about adding my best friend to our group. He originally went to the website but when it appeared he had to book a minimum of 3 people, it was easier to call. Activate also accepts walk ins but they do limit the number of players at any one time. Bookings are $25 pp for 75 minutes. You can buy 30 additional minutes for $10. Bracelets are worn and scanned for lockers and gaming. Before you leave the bracelets can be turned in. Work out clothes are your best choice. Your heart rate will rise and you'll sweat. Be smart about shoes too - remember, it's a work out! Water fountains are by the restrooms and they have a filling station for water bottles. I also appreciate the hand sanitizer located in a few spots. Games require a minimum of 3 people and max of 5. Each run 1-3 minutes. If no one is waiting in line to play your team will be invited to do an instant replay. When selecting your game and level the screen will offer a small set of rules but some games are tough and confusing. You'll have to play a few times to understand. Don't get frustrated! Plus the workers outside the room can offer advice. Everyone is so friendly. Age of players is recommended as 10+ but if a parent is playing that's flexible. Know your kid and their level of frustration with games designed as brain teasers. For those under 15 years a parent needs to be present although not required to play. To summarize, Activate is a "live action" video game experience, where you have different rooms and games to play, consisting of laser rooms, wall climbing, laser shooting, etc. It's a really creative and unique activity to do. And, Louisville is the first in the country to get this kind of place! The staff here are wonderful. They are all very friendly and helpful when it comes to setting up your game time, and are always willing to strike up a conversation. If you come back more than once, you can use your same profile, where you can rack up points to win some cool prizes!! As of right now there are around 10 game rooms that consist of 2-3 different games each, and also have around 8 levels each. The average amount of time you can buy is 75 minutes, which only counts during each gameplay. You can also buy more time if you'd like, but I feel like it's a pretty generous amount. They also show a couple rooms as "Coming Soon," so there will be some new games in the future! This is an awesome place. I recently went here for my birthday with my friends and we had a TOTAL blast (If it's your birthday you go free). There are several unique interactive rooms with exiting and athletic challenges. From dodging lasers to hiding from a motion-sensing eyeball, there is really nothing like Activate anywhere else. If you advance in levels and gain stars, you can even earn Activate merch from Activate keychains to basketballs. The facility is well-maintained and clean, and the workers at the front desk are always happy to help. If you go to Activate with a large group, (which I did) there is a back room full of lockers to place any extra items. Activate games was recommended to me by a coworker. This is a very cool place and different from anything that I've been to. Everything was very clean with cleaning schedules posted on the rooms. Hand sanitizer is available too. Me and my kids were greeted when we walked though the door. They walked us through the process. They have a nice, secure storage area of your stuff. It is accessed by a wrist band. Once completing the registration process we were greet by someone else that gave more details on the gaming process. There are a number of rooms, each is something different. Each game has 2-4 variations and up to 8 levels. As the name hints, these are active games. You will be sweating. There's some running, jumping, crawling and throwing. We were there for 75 minutes and That was plenty. While some of the games are hard, my 9 year old had no issues. I would definitely recommend Activate Games for families that would like to do something different. I could see it being a lot of fun for couples and work teams. read more

Had the chance to check out this place with the Yelp Elite team and it was super fun! Even better - it's the FIRST one in the US! It is a great concept for team building or couple or group dates. Right now there are 10 rooms you can experience. Each one only takes a few minutes. Within each room there are multiple challenges to try and multiple levels of difficulty. It would take awhile to get bored here - there is plenty to do in the 75 minutes you get. My top 3 rooms were Climb, Super Grid, and Laser. Climb - we chose the "Whack a mole" theme and it the challenge was to stay propped on the wall and touch the hand grips that turned to blue. I think there were 1 or 2 other themes you could pick for this room. We tried it 3 times - each time increasing the difficulty. Grid - I don't remember the name of the challenge we picked - but we had to run across the room touching all the blue buttons on the wall and blue squares on the floor. Laser - imagine the scene from Mission Impossible where he is trying to move around the lasers - this is what you're going to do. Get from one side of the room to the other without touching a laser. You'll definitely get a mini workout in - but it wasn't enough to make me sweat - just a little out of breath at times. I would say any fitness level can definitely handle every room. My husband and I booked 4 more visits, and we can't wait to come back! read more

I was turned off by the price at first but BOY WAS I WRONG. So freakin fun. If I had one back home I would go every week. Totally worth the money. There are SO MANY games and different games per "course" for lack of a better term. So there's some thing for everyone. The variety of games is extreme. It also has options for cooperative and competitive games and you get to compete with people daily monthly, and of all time (overall points and four points per game. There is really something for everyone including different ages. Depending on which games you pick, you can make it a whole work out and not get bored. Also, the game "Hide" felt like real life Squid Game - it is superior and you cannot convince me otherwise. You can also win merch as you collect points/stars and beat levels. Cons: only 3-5 ppl allowed per game, all games don't allow for two or less ppl; your clock ticks down when you sign in to check your points OUTSIDE of the game :/; and if theres a lot of ppl there or behind you, while youre in game, you only get one try/one game; not really good for disabled ppl/have to be able bodied for every event. read more

Soooooooooo much fun! When I first saw the advertising for Activate, I was a tad confused. How could one place cater to adults, kids, and teens and be slotted as a fitness experience? After our date night, I can tell you it fits the bill for all three. My partner and I had an absolute blast running around and playing games. In our 75-minute session, we both burned over 500 calories. There's hundreds of combinations of games, and your cozy wristband helps to keep track of your score, player profile, and points that can level you up for awards at the end of your stay. We live this place so much that we've taken family and friends here multiple times. Activate is such a fun spot, and I would recommend it to anyone who likes doing things that are both active and competitive. My recommended age range would be at least teenager and up, to really enjoy all of the rooms. Activate Games is best described in my opinion, as a wide array of different rooms, each with unique, timed challenges and minigames. You will work together with at least two, and up to four others, to successfully complete the challenge in the allotted time, scoring points based on time and efficiency. Each challenge has various levels with increasing difficulty. Every time you complete a level that you hadn't previously, you're rewarded with a star, but the real reward is the rush and camaraderie your group will experience. After going here several times, I still get great enjoyment from completing a challenge and seeing the expression of joy and relief on everyone's faces. That's what makes me look forward to coming back again and again. I would recommend this for friend groups, families, double dates, and work team events. It's really quite ideal for all of those. When you go, make sure to wear the same things you would for working out, including shoes with a grip. They will also have lockers for you to stow anything you don't want to carry, so no worries there. Definitely give Activate Games a shot- you can thank me later. read more

Basically you scan in with a fancy wristband that keeps your score with up to 5 others and you try and cooperatively try and dominate that game. Games like making your way from one side of the room to the other without tripping lasers Entrapment style or throwing balls at targets on a wall within a time frame. Once you master a level, up the difficulty and the number of games they have there go up exponentially! The place is simply amazing and Louisville is lucky to have the first of its kind here! Very Cool!! Walk in thinking it's going to be like an "Escape Room" type game but more physical. Well it was way better than that. First, they get you your wrist bands, one to open the locker and one as your player band. I was already totally sold on the place just because of the lockers. Most of the time I always have to figure out what I'm going to do with my purse. Anyway, the games were wicked cool, most had multiple challenges in each room and you picked the game before you enter.Definitely would say to wear athletic wear, no question. You will get all types of worked up playing these games, especially if you are competitive. Overall this place would be fun for any group of friends, family, co-workers, but keep in mind it's a physical activity type fun, so put your hair up and stretch before you go. Lol.
