His demeanor came across as empathetic (unusual for a specialist). He asked that I have some tests done for him to better evaluate my need for surgery, and his desire to be thorough was reassuring. So far, so good; but my Meritus experience went rapidly downhill since. I have some serious concerns about one of the tests that Dr. Jafferji ordered, and wrote him a letter outlining those concerns. That was nearly three weeks ago. When two weeks had passed with no communication of any kind, I called his office and spoke with a decidedly unhelpful woman who lied to me to get me off the phone: she said that she was the person who reviewed the mail but had no memory of receiving my letter, though she admitted she might have, and would have forwarded it to the doctor if so. She promised to both contact the doctor and to have someone from the office follow up with me; that was four days ago and of course no one has done so. At this point I have no way of knowing if Jafferji ever saw my letter, or whether it has just been lost in an office where no one cares about communicating with patients. While he certainly came across as an understanding physician, I have been wrong about things like that in the past. However I also realize, after speaking with the very unhelpful woman, that he may never have seen it, and the dysfunction in that office is therefore such that he never will see it or be informed about it. In the end it does not matter which it is; the bottom line is a patient with real concerns has been completely ignored and left to twist in the wind with the clear message that his concerns are totally unimportant to a staff that has, evidently, better things to do than help their patients.

I then had to have my appendix removed, it was an emergency surgery and I was there over night. The plan of care was 1 to keep you in pain not get you out of it! The pain was so bad I could barely walk and my surgeon did not care. He Left me in pain and sent me home and my 1st night home was almost intolerable! He gave me basic meds and when I called into tell them how much pain I was in his response was she shouldn't be in pain so take Tylenol every 6 hours and deal with it. Mean time I have 3 incisions that are so bruised I can hardly tolerate anything touching my abdomen. When did it become ok to let patients suffer? Not only that, the communication in the office is absolutely terrible, you may need something and call in and never hear back! If you have an option, go elsewhere!!!

Our father suffered from tremors and had gotten to the point of needing to be fed after there approximately 2 weeks. Since he could no longer go to the dining room to feed himself staff would sit his plate in front of him on the tray and walk out. My sisters and I rotated coming into to feed him or he would have starved. He would routinely tell us when asked what his physical therapy consisted of and was consistently told it was chat time with other residents. Nursing was notified routinely no changes just apologie and that it would be addressed. The worst of all, we didn't let him have any personals except his wedding band of 60 years. He unfortunately passed while there and low and behold his wedding band that he wanted to be buried with was missing when he got to the hospital. I addressed it with Ravenwood contacted corporate and oh it must have fell off of his hand and got swept up. Baloney. Then they said it must have been stolen at the hospital when they took him. Baloney. I did follow up with the hospital, they were all over it. Investigated and even involved a higher level. They did more than expected while Ravenwood blamed our dad for letting g it fall off, then the hospital. The overall experience was horrible and the ending was that much worse. He had good insurance didn't need to go to a low budget nursing home but unfortunately that was the only one with the bed for rehab at the time. I would never ever ever recommend this place to anyone for their loved ones even if you are able to be there daily as were. I would give a zero star if I could.

My experience with nursing homes is limited to three facilities in Hagerstown, Maryland. Ravenwood…read moreis not the worst of the three, but I would not recommend it to anyone. I would only recommend it over NMS in Hagerstown, one of the other facilities I've had experience with. The problem is always staffing - not enough people to attend to the residents. One Geriatric Nursing Aid to 25 residents is the state requirement and Ravenwood is in compliance with and often exceeds that ... most of the time. But frequent staff turnover and absences make it impossible to deliver what they claim on their website: "professional care with a personal touch." My mother is not being abused or neglected and has not developed bed sores, but the standard of care falls far below what I expect. The only reason I feel at all positive about my mom in that place is that she is able to afford private aids that attend to her 3 times a day. Otherwise, I'm certain she would be worse off from the 6 months she has spent there. But I have to needle them nearly every week with the same issues that never get resolved. There are staff there who are professional and clearly care for my mom and do their best to attend to her. However, these are few and they are always overworked, and frequently the good ones leave because they can't stand the environment and the workload. I realize this problem is not specific to Ravenwood. But I cannot give it a higher rating because I am not willing to lower my standards and expectations. The state of long term care facilities in the US is despicable and indicative of an overall lack of interest by most people in the state of elderly care. My only consolation is that mom's private aids give her 6 hours a day of focused attention and companionship. I feel great empathy for those who are not able to afford this.

Got home then couldn't see out of right eye face swollen nose swollen and couldn't breat through my nose so I returned and the nurse told me to leave as no doctor was going to see me and she got in my face. No one touches me without my self defense so I stood my ground being the only person in the ER. Saw a Dr who said that he didn't give a damn if I sat there and bled to death. Another time I was as held down by a nurse and given 10 mg of ketamine and I was screaming no, hallucinating and screaming couldn't move my legs trouble breathing ripping stitches for procedures to fight her off to no avail. My roommate who is former Army stepped outside of the curtain 2 feet and said I wasn't breathing well and needed help and this female dr shoved him from behind into the room I witnessed her stick out her left leg grab him by his puffer coat with her right hand huge shove with her left hand on his shoulder from behind him and spin him hard slamming and bouncing his head against and off the wall then he fell over a chair and his hands and knees were on the floor. this man was 76 now 79 years old and he had her arrested. I testified to the truth but the judge said " I'm not going to say she didn't do it, I'm not going to say she didn't do it. I'm saying that the severity ( of the assault) is not enough to justify her losing her house her car and her job because she needs her job to pay for her house and her car" and she went free, back to working at Meritus ER. I was taken to Meritus ER by ambulance in 10/24 and being discharged refusing narcotics couldn't walk due to spinal stenosis paralyzed me from the waist down with nerve damage crying with nerve pain and this man charged into my area screaming loud "shift change now I'm in charge", (4 am was not shift change) pointing his finger inches from my face and the man with me sitting there I screamed for him to get out but he kept it up. He said for me to get the hell out of his hospital right now or he would put me in a nursing facility, I screamed back that he had no medical power of attorney over me, never said who he was so I thought he was a mental patient on the loose , I screamed so loud at him to get out that finally he left. I left the hospital quickly being dragged down the hall by my male friend to the car in fear for my life. I reported him to EMTALA but again he was back working at Meritus so I was told. Sinai operated for this with a lamenectomy and a CSF leak which is brain leak tie off at L4-5. I had a civil rights violation stemming from terrifying visit with the male at Meritus Pain Management and the state police said thats grounds for arrest but the judges just let these Meritus doctors go so why bother? I could go on and on about the abuse I suffered at the hands of Meritus doctors BUT 1/26 I am eligible for new insurance coverage that allows me to go to big city hospitals so never again will I go to the Meritus Medical Center ED in Hagerstown MD. I would like to end this by saying that in 09/24 my heart rate went up to 175 due to nutritional malabsorption, another Meritus dr who made a huge mistake in the department of gastroenterology. Meritus cardiologists diagnosed me with atrial fibrillation and said get a heart ablation. I went to Baltimore and there is not one EKG OR ECG in this state of Maryland proving I ever has the diagnosis and if I had the ablation I would have died and this was told to me by a Baltimore cardiologist/electrophysiologist who took the time to track down all this information and called me on a Sunday morning with his grave concerns in a panic. He is qualified to perform heart ablations and remains to be the only doctor that I will see again for my heart, never Meritus again for any cardiologist. Meritus did build a baseball stadium and parking garage but how does this enhance the horrible conditions in the hospital for patients like me as I'm not the only one, far far from it. These doctors with a specialty practice just keep doing wrong then the letters come kicking me out of their practices. I certainly wouldn't return to an abusive doctor but that letter makes them look good, or should I say stupid even when some violated my HIPPA laws!Many people have talked to me about worse treatment & no lawyers taking their cases and I'm one. As soon as we say Meritus to a lawyer they're too busy. I have called many lawyers including in DC and Baltimore to be told no quickly. Meritus is no longer number one in Maryland and an employee said to me that they deserve to be number one and cannot find out who number one is but they will! This is what happens when you go to places like this and the people working on you are NIGHT SCHOOL certified! I have filed a law suit but it doesn't give back the three years which has been taken from me by an incompetent moron! Last this company Meritus likes to sidestep something like this because they have money to deny the truth. Don't think the Patient Advocate is there to help you! It is Meritus first line of defense and first line of circling their wagons! Do the right thing and settle because your PT did medical malpractice!

They were patient, kind, intuitive (freakily sometimes - in that they knew exactly what needed to happen to help), and personable. I appreciate honesty, and they gave it to me straight. After ~3 months of therapy, and with a full plan of what to do now, I am on my own with the use of my arm back and the great possibility that all will be fabulous very soon as long as I keep working. I cannot recommend them enough. I will miss them greatly!

Previously, I had gone to an Urgent care facility to get an x-ray to try to get to the bottom of the pain I was experiencing, they sent me on my way saying there was nothing wrong. I was in Dr. Grahn's office for about a half hour and in that time they were able to do 5 x-rays, find the fracture, and hook me up with a boot. Next time, I will be skipping urgent care. I would highly recommend Dr. Grahn to any of my friends!

He provided me with reassurance and took a nonjudgmental stance. I really appreciated having such a kind, accessible, and consistent practitioner. I had two telemedicine sessions with a nurse practitioner from this office in April and May of…read more2020. This was a follow up to my visit to Urgent Care for a post-covid illness. Meritus is not charging for telemedicine visits but this office charged me $77 for my first visit and $306 for the second. I am currently disputing these charges. I had blood work done at Urgent Care and was told that the results were normal. I told this to the nurse practitioner at this Internal Medicine office, and she used this as the basis to keep telling me that I was fine. She pulled up my record as she was speaking to me, because she knew my age and other details about me, but she never bothered to check the blood panel. I have since discovered that my blood panel had five items outside the normal range. When I was able to see an actual physician in June, she told me that my blood panel indicated inflammation, infection and some level of dehydration. She immediately diagnosed my problem as a cytokine storm. She recommended Ibuprofen and antihistamines to reduce inflammation and my body's immune response. There were additional drugs she could have prescribed if I had seen her earlier, when my symptoms were more severe. There are limitations to telemedicine and it is no substitute for seeing a physician in person. My main issues with my telemedicine sessions are: The nurse practitioner never even looked at my blood panel; She told me to stop drinking electrolytes because I was NOT dehydrated (when I was); She told me to stop taking Ibuprofen (my doctor told me to take it to reduce inflammation); She told me that the symptoms I was experiencing were too far removed from my covid infection to be related (my doctor told me that cytokine storm lasts 2-3 months, and I was in this time frame). She tried to trouble shoot it as a freestanding problem, and prescribed a medication which she said would raise my heart rate and dehydrate me. This was very alarming to me as my heart rate was already elevated and I knew that I was dehydrated. This Internal Medicine office called me and tried to set up an appointment in person with the nurse practitioner who did my telemedicine visits. I said I was not comfortable seeing this CNP and asked if there was a physician I could see. I was told that a nurse practitioner is basically just as good as a physician. I declined to make the appointment at this office and found a physician elsewhere. I never received a bill in the mail for these charges, only noticed them when I logged on to print my records (and I had to contact someone in Meritus' IT Department to create an account to be able to access these records). I was charged around $1000 by Meritus for the Urgent Care visit, lab work, and these two telemedicine sessions. I got basically nothing out of this and had to see a physician anyway. The Billing Department said it may take two weeks to reverse the charges for the telemedicine visits, but I suspect that I am going to have to keep fighting it.
