I called to ask about copper prices as we had a lot of good, bright & shiny copper to sell. They don't give prices over the phone. Our usual recycling place (SA Recycling, fantastic place) was closed by the time we got there, so we decided to check this place out. What a waste of time. SA is paying $3.55 /lb. These thieves are paying $1.90/lb. Unconscionable! They are open later than the other recycling centers. The reason they don't quote over the phone is they want you to have no other options and you're there already... Just don't go. They are so not worth it. read more

Friendly and quick service. I would go again for cardboard drop off. It's super easy. All you do is get your car weighed drop off the cardboard weigh it again and get a receipt for the number of pounds dropped off. You can use the slip for cash within 60 days. read more

I've been reluctantly going there for years. As another reviewer wrote, even though the sign says that they take books and magazines, they don't. When I saw the review from last year, then saw the sign a few days ago, I tried calling to check. When the woman said that they still don't take magazines, I told her that their new sign says that they do. As I was going to suggest she let the higher ups know, she hung up on me! I called right back, and she hung up again. The third time, someone didn't hang up on me. I said that I wasn't being rude, disrespectful or short with them, but letting them know that their sign is misleading. Then, she wouldn't give me her name. She said the company won't let them. When I went to the web site, there isn't any place to give feedback. Also, as yet another reviewer mentioned, they're super cheap. If you have large items you need to get rid of such as cardboard or metal scraps and you live in the SGV, this is a good place to stop by! You can either just drop it off or get it weighed and get paid. If you choose to get it weighed, it can be a little confusing at first, but here are the steps. 1) drive up to the window (stay between the yellow lines) 2) attendant will come out 3) inform them what you are dropping off 4) attendant will inspect the recycling 5) they will weigh your car 6) drop off your recycling 7) come back to the window (stay between the yellow lines) 8) they will weigh your car again and provide you with a receipt 9) drive over to cashier window and get cash/check for your recycling The cashier window has papers taped all over the window, but someone is behind there! I love ordering from Amazon because of the shipping convenience, but having to break down boxes every week, and trying to stuff the boxes into my recycling bin which always over exceeds the space I have struggled to rid my boxes week after week. I finally found a place where I can dump the boxes and earn some cash/change, but honestly I'd rather not pick up the the chump change earnings and just rid the boxes to have space in my garage. As I looked across, I see trucks unloading appliances, I can only guess that this is the place where junk removal for large appliances come to cash out. They buy cardboard! It's not a lot of money unless you have A LOT! But hey, I got some laundry money :) The folks are very nice and it is pretty straightforward. When you drive in, go straight on to the scale that is along the fence, it is a ground scale, looks like a raised bit of asphalt. The person working will fill out and keep a form with your first name and car weight. They will direct you as to where you need to go. When you come back, drive on to the same scale, they will finish the form and give you copies. Take that to the cashier that is directly across the lot from the scale. If it's very little like cents, you get the cents. I am unsure at what amount they issue you a check. The checks or cash do not require a license. Unless you want your name on the check, then they need ID. All in all, quick and easy process! read more

Today was my first experience recycling large amounts of metal and everything went smooth with Active Recycling. You first drive up to the scale and weigh your vehicle. They then tell you which bay to drop it off at depending what kind of metal you have. After you empty your vehicle, you drive back up to the scale and get reweighed. The scale employee then gives you a payout slip with your info to take to the payout booth. You give that person the slip and your drivers license and they cut you a check. Simple and I was in and out reasonably quick. Would use them again in the future. read more

Was driving behind an Active Recycling truck on the 405 and the back gate was badly held closed with a rope and it was dumping trash all over the freeway. Lots of medical gloves and other trash were bouncing all over the place and you can tell this is how this truck always is shoddily closed when transporting trash. I finally found a place near my apartment complex that recycles pretty much everything. My apartment complex doesn't have recycling bins which is quite a bummer. Most of the recycling places in Los Angeles only accept cans and bottles. However, Active Recycling takes paper, metals, and a bunch of other things too! How it works: 1. Drive your car onto the scale. Stay in your car. Someone will weigh your car on the scale. 2. Unload your car at the right station. There's a paper station, a metals station, etc. 3. Drive your car back onto the scale. The attendant will subtract your ending weight from the beginning weight. Take your receipt to the cashier and s/he will pay you. If you don't care about the money, then you don't have to redeem your receipt for money. During my first visit, I recycled about 100 pounds of paper. I thought 100 pounds was a LOT. However, while I was waiting in line, I realized that most people had hundreds of pounds of recyclables. 100 pounds was chump change. Easy process. Nice staff. Most importantly, you're helping to save the planet! read more

I guess I bought too many things on Amazon, because I had a HUGE pile of cardboard and didnt know what to do with it. I had driven by this place many times and didnt think much about it. But I called and they said they would take all the cardboard. It's easy. You drive straight onto a giant scale. They weigh your vehicle and direct you to the cardboard area (you can also recycle metal and other stuff, each have a different pile). When done you weigh again, and lo and behold they give you a receipt and there is a cashier who pays you for the cardboard (or metal, or whatever you brought). To me the cash was unexpected gravy...I was just thankful to have an easy way to get all the cardboard out of the driveway finally! read more

Place is absolutely useless, making up their own schedule on the day before a holiday. Not really sure how they have separate departments in the same place with different hours, closing before 2 PM? So what time do you guys start working because I'd like that schedule for myself. Came here to Get Rid of Some Aluminum, Copper and Brass that my dad had stack in his Garage for an eternity. The Employees here are Nice and Helpful and they have very Reasonable Prices. If you have Copper and Brass you have to wait 3 days to get your Money but that's not a Deal Breaker at All. Drive your car full of all your recyclables up to the scale on your left and tell them what you are recycling. 2. Park your car and unload. 2A. Keep repeating all the steps above if you brought multiple types of materials to recycle. 3. Should there be a line, drive on the opposite side where you entered the scale to do the final weigh-in. 4. Pick up your receipt and take it to the shack directly across from the scale. 5. Sign the receipt and they will issue you a check. Notes: -No household or electronic waste accepted. -Yes to all kinds of metal, cardboard, books, paper, plastics (car bumpers, milk jugs, detergent bottles, buckets included). -Every so often, they change the buy back rate. The person at the register was extremely hostile towards me, he went from behind to counter to where I was ten feet away trying to intimidate me. Best possible cardboard recycling. Is your recycle bin constantly getting full a day after pickup because it is 90% boxes? Mine was until I found this place. A perfect cardboard recycler for the covid era. Pull up to the back dump your cardboard, live your life. They were very nice to a recycling novice like me, but I didn't do my homework before heading there (so I guess this is more of a ding on me than them), but they really don't take much except for cardboard, newspapers, and larger items (like home appliances). The car scale thing is really convenient because you do drive up, they weigh you, you unload by category, drive back on, they weigh you again, and then send you to the cashier for your moola. My cardboard netted me a whopping $.28 and I almost didn't even get to check in on that fortune (they only issue checks; not cash) because the cashier is closed for lunch from 12:30-1pm during their operating hours and I just skirted in at 12:28. If you're a regular you prob know the drill, but for a first timer like me, as much as I want to be a better friend to the environment, it didn't seem worth it for all the trouble I went through to take my measly one-person apartment recycling there. (There is a place about 10 minutes away that does take CRV stuff - glass and cans - and gives you cash, so if you have a huge amount of different stuff to unload, you can easily do both in one trip...just don't do it during lunch hour, as everyone's gotta eat, apparently!) read more

Customer service is horrible. I called to ask the current price of aluminum cast as I have a large amount of clean aluminum cast to recycle but right away my call went bad. First the lady who answered the phone didn't know what aluminum cast was. Then when I just asked what the current price was on any aluminum she said she couldn't give a price over the phone. It's not hard to say a price. I'm not going to drive 30 minutes to a place that will pay me 5 cents a pound for clean aluminum. read more
