I had an unfortunate run in with a pot hole while walking in high heels. The pot hole won. After 3 months of seeing another PT group and seeing little to no results, I was extremely frustrated. A neighbor referred me to Activo and I'm glad I took her advice. My injury was not minor, a complete rupture of my ATF. I had to rebuild everything. I went in with calf atrophy, and swelling after nearly 6 months. I had lost hope and was debating surgery. After a long convo with my new podiatrist, he suggested aggressive PT would do no further damage and if failed, I could revisit surgery. My first visit with Activo was great, and after a few sessions with some minor improvements, there was finally some hope. Michelle and her team are great. They actually care about your progress, and push you without making you uncomfortable. They don't only address the affected issues they look at surrounding support. I did exercises which included my calves, quads, hams, and thighs. After 6 months with her team I had about 80% recovery when I ended my sessions. I still have some building, but that is longer term stamina. I left Activo with the confidence and tools I needed to get back on my feet (pun intended). I still use their exercises from time to time when I need a little help. I cannot thank this group enough. If anyone wants to avoid surgery or is recovering from one, please consider Activo. As a new patient, I was referred to Michelle Guido, physical therapist, who appeared preoccupied and uninterested throughout the evaluation. She did not take any notes. We discussed various exercises and treatments for me; none of them included Electrical Stimulation treatment. However, the billing person identified as Mike Smith (who I was told was her husband), billed for more than 10 sessions of Electrical Stimulation treatment. Checks were mailed to their office and deposited into their bank account. He stated the Electrical Stimulation treatment plan was a separate, second one. This is insurance fraud. read more

I had bilateral knee replacement surgery recently and have begun therapy with Kaylee at Activo last week. It has been wonderful, Kaylee has been incredibly thorough, has explained everything to me, made some great suggestions. As a a life long athlete and adventurer, I have had the "opportunity" to be treated by physical therapists several times. There is truly no one better than Michelle. She is thoughtful, caring and extremely knowledgeable. She not only understands the physiology, but her patients personalities as well. Those that need to be pushed, those that push too hard and need to be encouraged to slow up a minute. This is the best PT group that I have worked with in the past 30 years ! Michelle Guido, DPT, is very comprehensive, up to date, well trained, friendly and a great communicator. She personally works on all of her patients when they come in, and is always available to assist her trainers and assistants in helping patients and explaining new exercises. Every week or so Dr. Guido issues an email to her patients with specific PT exercises for them to complete at home. All of her staff are very friendly and seem to have you look forward to your next session. Their equipment is new and top notch. I highly recommend them. I reluctantly have to give a mixed review. I have gone to Activo several times over the years. Michelle provides excellent physical therapy. I have gone to 2 other PT places and Activo definitely provides the best care. However, about a year ago they stopped accepting my insurance even though they were still under contract with my insurance company. I ended up stuck with a $2000 bill out of pocket. (The therapy is good but not cheap.} Be very sure that your insurance is accepted before you start treatment. read more

I really can't say enough great things about Activo! My neighbor recommended Michelle when I tore my meniscus and wasn't having a great experience with my former PT. Michelle took a totally different approach and I saw pretty quick improvement. She was pretty sure that I could avoid surgery, and after 4 months I was able to start running again, and now 8 months after injury I can run 6 miles pain-free. Michelle was honest about what my limitations would be, but she was pretty spot on with everything throughout my recovery. The PT interns are very sweet and thorough, the office is clean and doesn't get too crowded, they are always on time for appointments. So a few months later, I blew out my shoulder in an arm-lock gone bad. Not the best day of my life. The pain was excruciating, I thought I would be under the knife, for sure. It would NOT improve after weeks of rest, ice, anti-inflammatory meds, or massage. The doctors made it clear, surgery is an option. This scared me. I am not afraid of pain- I was afraid to "lose" 4 months of my life. By following Michelle's advice, somehow, impossibly, I recovered without surgery. She was so clearly invested in my future as a combat athlete that I am sincerely touched and have re-found some faith in humanity. Which means a lot, because most people are basically walking garbage. Except for at Activo- a veritable oasis of compassion and professionalism. Go here, if you want to heal. read more

After having a bad run with another physical therapist after my ACL and meniscus surgery, I was starting to lose hope. I was recommended to come here by my doctor due to lower back and hip pains. After having babies back to back, my entire body got jacked up. Michelle and her team totally understood where I was coming from, knowing that this isn't an injury but just recovering from pregnancy. Michelle had me doing all kinds of exercises that work. She knows her stuff. I went from being in pain to pain be gone. I actually had to stop coming for a while due to scheduling conflicts and my pain came back because I haven't kept up with the exercises. This just goes to show how affective this therapy is. I highly recommend Activo for their custom orthodic fittings. I have seen Michelle Guido for custom orthodics for myself and my kids. I'm very happy with the results from all of our custom fittings - Imho, she is more qualified to do this than your local podiatrist(been to three throughout the years prior to this visit....) And no, she has no clue Im writing this review - nor was I asked to - Im glad to do it because of the great service and the belief that those who can afford it will greatly benefit from customs orthodics just like I have. This is the most thorough and professional PT office in San Diego. I've been to so many. The PTs understand sports injuries. They give you an hour and do multirole therapies-manipulation, exercises, electrical stimulation and massage with follow-up emails to review your home program. Their goal is to get you back to sports and activities, not just collect an insurance payment. It is the only office I have gone to that I would recommend and I was shocked at the difference between this practice and all the others I wasted time with. read more

I was recommended to Activo by my Orthopedic surgeon and was a little reluctant because I feel that there are "deals in the dark" that result in recommendations. However they were covered by my insurance plan and they were highly regarded by the surgeon. I must say I received care, and caring above and beyond what I could have ever expected. All of the employees are not only well trained, but give you personal service and consist ant attention to form as you exercise and are constantly diagnosing what will work for you, and what you should and should not be doing. Even on days when I had particularly bad flare ups with pain and or spasms, they would get me in immediately and take care of me. By far the best physical therapy care I have ever received. I've been coming to see Michelle Guido off and on over the course of the last 6 years. As an avid beach volleyball player, I've had ankle (posterior tibial tendonitis), knee, hip, elbow and shoulder issues associated with a combination of overuse and arthritis. Michelle saved me from surgery many times and got me back to playing 3+ hrs at a time. She has an extremely experienced eye and is incredibly talented at formulating a wide range of strengthening solutions to help with just about any kind of recovery. I wanted to wait until I finished up all my sessions before posting a review. All I can say is WOW. These folks not only know what they are doing, they do it with great skill and kindness. Michelle, who "runs the show" is very knowledgeable and truly listens to her clients and their needs. I had to have surgery on my large toe and it was very painful and not functioning. My ortho doctor at Scripps Clinic recommended this place and I'm so glad he did. Michelle and her team were able to get it functioning again and I'm extremely grateful. I was recently referred to Michelle at ActiveRx Pysical Therapy after suffering an IT Band injury during marathon training. I was thrilled with the care I received during my twelve appointments. Michelle's qualifications include a background as a D1 college athlete, and a physical therapy degree from the top PT school in the country. Michelle set up a training program for me that allowed me to fix the IT Band problem, while also maintaining a fair amount of cardiovascular fitness. Her approach seemed fairly comprehensive and included stretching, strengthening, massage, icing, and cross training. I was really happy that she based my recovery program around my personal fitness goals. In my final appointments, she even helped me develop a program aimed at strengthening my entire body, which I expect will help me run faster in the future (and avoid injuries). Michelle is also an excellent conversationalist, which helped make my 2 h a week enjoyable. Finally, because she is the owner, you can count on top notch care. Highly recommended. read more

I have been at Activo for well over a year, first entering as a patient in July 2014 when I was trying to avoid ankle surgery. My first therapist Ana was the best therapist I could have ever gotten. She helped me strengthen my ankle for my to play the first fourth of my last season of high school soccer and brought the gap between my ankle bones from 9mm to 3mm. I also interned here during my senior year in high school (while still being a patient) and it was the best experience I could've asked for. After my surgery, I worked with Natalie who helped me restrengthen my ankle to the point where I no longer needed a brace to help me walk. After re-injuring myself last week in college, I wish that I was able to do physical therapy with them rather than where I am going now. The staff at Activo are the best people you could meet. They make going to physical therapy fun and actually enjoyable and I always looked forward to my next appointment. The aids work with you and make sure that you're properly completing your exercises and so does your therapist. They office is very clean and organized and they are extremely flexible and do their best to work around your schedule. Everyone here knows their stuff and I highly recommend going to see them for any type of injury. It is hands down the best physical therapy place in San Diego. read more

I have had lower (lumbar) back issues for many years. I had kind of resigned myself to a life of simply being super careful, not bending etc. However, I did decide to make one more effort to improve my flexibility. I went to Michelle Guido one time for an evaluation and she put me on a specific exercise program. I honored it for 30 days as directed and low and behold I had greater flexibility than I have had in over twenty years. She knows her stuff and you feel that when she is evaluating your problems. Due to swimming, sports and a bad posture I had a constant tingling in my left hand and couldn't tilt my head back without stabbing sensations running along my left arm. The neurologist said I probably couldn't play contact sports anymore. However, this PT office had me back in the pool swimming after one and half months and I'm now back on the basketball court shooting hoops. Anna is a gem. She had me work on strengthening exercises, stretches and posture improvements. She was very professional, knowledgeable, and easy to work with. Michelle is great too. She made me a home traction unit out of just a towel and an elastic band. I highly recommend this group. The support staff is great. Everybody is friendly and has a positive attitude. read more

I highly recommend Activo. Michelle is amazing and really cares about getting you better and back to normal. I was going to another physical therapist in LA who treated me 12 times and was unable to figure out what I had. After many months of frustration, I went to Michelle. She not only immediately realized what I had (joint labral tear), but she sent me to the best surgeon that would treat my condition. I had to have surgery because I had hip impingement and a torn labrum and then went back to her post surgery. It's been a long process, but thanks to her I am now walking normal. She gave me consistent exercises to strengthen and did not confuse me. She was always clear and very supportive. I was referred to Activo by my doctor after experiencing hip pain that really disrupted my running. I received excellent treatment from the staff. Anna was the assigned PT, and she was helped by Jackie and Danielle. They were all excellent. Anna made sure to take the time to understand where the problem was, and I knew right away at the first meeting that she had reviewed the information sent by the doctor. She was great at answering my questions about the mechanics of the problem and why certain exercises and stretches were important to recover and prevent recurrence.
