Avoid. Reasons below. Eyeglasses - incorrect Rx, unnecessarily over thick lenses, wrong frames, lenses dont fit into frames after clicked, lenses are DISTORTED. Acuity refuses to replace. Took time to write this to save you time. It's not -venting bad experience. I will be going elsewhere. Was too sick medical /treatment to seek a different office , when should have. In total, wasted hours and hours and years - in attempt to get single pair of 'correct' distance eyeglasses. Encinitas Acuity Eye Group (experiences 2023-0ct 2025) First, after many months, they finally have an office manager as of Oct 2025 who is not included in this review. Dr. Midling is also a very pleasant, professional and knowledgable Dr. That said, if you have other options- AVOID this organization. -Different dr's deliver different info regarding your eye condition. -Every appointment is about 1-1.5 hrs. -First pair of glasses= I immediately stated - these are wrong, was told to try them anyway. When called after 2 weeks, no one answered nor returned my call. so had to make another appoint. Another dr admits someone messed up my prescription, a replacement is authorized. -Picked those up, lenses were three x as thick (for single distance- unnecessary) lenses not even clicked into frames. Once clicked in- still to thick and don't fit in FRAMES I had not chosen. Lenses are also DISTORTED. - Acuity are refusing to correct , and would be charging me 60% fee for glasses and frames. - when asked for vision test, was scheduled w a dr who doesnt do that- twice. Had to make additional appointments. -Months of no return calls, no one answering during work hrs.- however this may change now that there is an office manager. - One staffer who deals with the eyeglasses and frames- I've witnessed her to be inappropriate, unprofessional during 2-3 visits. Did not have glass lenses confirmed by a staffer when told their were incorrect. Kept a sickly cancer patient waiting while being chatty in front of them. , Sherri (as to not be mistaken for another) She did not inspect glasses, does not inform you she'll be lunching when you call to make appoint to pick up glasses, also takes breaks in front of customers loud with her personal business. Is loud and chatty. Witnessed others choosing frames her cringe at her interjections. Am sure is liked by some types. Bottom line- not good for eyeglasses- based on incorrect RX, negligent staffer, no return calls. experiences : 2023- oct 2025 With new office manager does seem they are answering phone now, and probably some improvements will be made. read more

Walked in for a scheduled eye appointment for new glasses. The older white lady in front of the glasses was very rude. I checked in and waited about 20 minutes before getting called up. I went in to a small room for an eye test with the hot air balloon, I wasn't given any instruction, just a "follow me". After the two minute test, I was told to go back to the waiting room. After another 15 minutes, I was called back to a room to discuss any issues. I just needed a new test and pair of glasses for distance. They applied a numbing drop to my eyes which did sting and the lady struggled to find the eye pressure. Another lady came in and assisted. Then I was sent back to the waiting room. Again no instructions; no details; just back to the lobby. 20 minutes later, I went in to see the doctor. She was very nice and friendly. She gave me a new prescriptions and tested me for dry eyes. I walked back to the lobby and to the rude lady in front of the glasses to get me started with a new pair. Not the greatest customer service. It seemed like she only cared about the dogs entering and which kind of dog treats to give them. I was only allowed to look at a few trays of frames that were set aside and after making a decision picked one out and the lady got my paperwork sorted. I will be coming back in two weeks for pickup. Overall, the services here are what they say; they are doable. Just be patient. Also depending on your insurance you may be limited to eye places. But if this is on your list, def check out others first read more

Oh my... what an absolute nightmare in making an apt. ! Their customer service is abysmal. It's so difficult to get a hold of someone on their 24/7 line; they barely speak any English, and the typical wait time is 30 minutes on hold for the agent to figure out how to book your apt. Bit of a joke really... except that it's not, as I"ve got a horrible HMO which takes forever to approve a referral for ANYTHING so I"m stuck with Acuity for now. I figure it's just easier to walk into the clinic in person and make the apt. that way. read more

Now that Acuity Eye Group has taking over for Dr. Scotti's excellent practice, service has gone downhill. I went back twice for follow up visits and each time saw a new doctor since the former one left. A third follow up appointment was scheduled with yet another doctor. No continuity of care. Also their customer service is absolutely the worst. Complete lack of follow up. They made errors filling out my prescription form to take elsewhere and when I stopped by the office to have them correct it, they said they would mail me the corrected form I had to request this twice and I still never received it. I switched to a new physician and completed a form in June for them to forward my medical records. It is now the end of October and it was never done. Avoid this practice at all costs. Of special note, the woman in the optical department is extremely rude. read more

Scheduling sucks. My whole experience so far has been so frustrating. Received a call from Acuity in April to confirm an appointment that I had no record of scheduling. Drove 40 miles only to reach the office and told that they have not received a pre-authorization yet. So why the heck did they schedule me? Now that I physically have the Authorization of Services, I scheduled an appointment and scheduling clerk has no record of authorization and requesting me to do all the leg work. Once again, my Medical group has faxed the authorization to their referral department. Hopefully they will have everything straightened out on their end by the time I go in for my appointment in a few weeks. Once again, frustrating!!!! read more

These guys are a joke, I got 2 text reminders with their address for an appt. When I get to the storefront there was another business so I called them and they told me that they had closed that office. I asked then why this address was shown on the text and she did not know why. The appt was for an annual checkup, last year I went and they did some lousy glasses that are not even my prescription. Now they sent me to the wrong address. They are a bunch of morons, do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. read more

This is a Scam company and Everyone should be leary. Initially set up 2 eye appointments. One for me with good VSP insurance and another for my son with no insurance so it's a cash pay. I asked for what specials if any were available. They gave me the details so I booked both appointments. Then someone called and changed the appointment to Encinitas. It was much farther from my initial location so I was sure to confirm they would honor the special that I had been offered. They said yes. We just walked out of the 2 appointments even though my appointment was fully covered by my insurance. I did that because if a company can't be honest then I won't be spending my money and waste my time with liars. Bottom line that's what it's about and they probably have inferior service and care. So they lost money today and I hope before somebody spends their hard earned money with them you think twice. Now that I read their other reviews this marketing strategy is common to them. I've been to this office at least 3 times with the same issue. Nothing has been done except telling me to come back. Had an eye exam last week, ended up with a bruise on my hand the size of 2 silver dollar coins with a lump in the middle from some type of injection I guess to dilate my eyes but not sure. If I could give 0 stars I would this place is waste of my time!!! First of all Waited 3 weeks for an appointment! Before I went to the appointment I asked specifically if there was a co pay I was told no. I stated it was for contacts I asked again at the front desk was t there a charge was told no again. The girl doing the testing didn't bother explaining how they do eye exams put a drops in my eyes didn't bother explaining what it was and they were doing to take a pressure of my eye no. Absolutely not. The drops were to numb my eyes now my eyes hurt. Then I get to the dr a woman dr who then lied and said they no longer make my contact anymore that it was being discontinued and it would be $70 for the exam. So then I was lied 2 x and what's the point of this stupid insurance then. Also my contact lenses are not being discontinued they just want to lie and get money out of you!! Go to Lens crafters soooo much better and they don't lie to you!! So I walked out of that appointment and I will pay for eye insurance on my own that actually covers contacts!! This place is a POs!! Sherry has always been very friendly greeting patients upon their arrival and today assisted me in selecting my new glasses. Sherry provided exceptional service that exceeded my expectations! honestly, the worst experience I've had in 20 years of optometrist offices. An exam was scheduled for five months out due to my insurance, not covering and the glasses not being correct. I showed up to my exam and the office had completely closed down. So I was rescheduled for their office (after calling multiple times) which is 25 miles away, where all they needed to do was alter the frame And not the prescription. I had the glasses redone, drove all the way out, but their office is closed. this is really inconsiderate and an inconvenience for a single mother that works full-time and cannot just come out any old day. i'm absolutely done with this place! read more

The people are great but trying to reach someone is a nightmare. I have been put on hold for over an hour and then been disconnected. You can make an appointment with the central call center within about 20 minutes but trying to get ahold of your office you are going to is impossible. One time I called every office listed just to talk to anyone. No one answered their phone. It's also impossible to leave a message because it will tell you that the message center is full and then hangs up on you. I loved my doctor and the office staff was great but nothing else about this company if worth wasting your time or money. Mostly it makes me feel like pulling my hair out. Find someplace else to get your eye's fixed and glasses ordered. read more

So let me preface by saying purchasing an eyeglass was in itself a seamless experience facilitated by Cherie, the knowledgeable and highly-experienced customer/sales rep. But (a big-ass but) the oddest experience is the way the sales section is plonked in the middle of the optometrist/ophthalmologist waiting room. Yes, there I am interacting with Cherie, and everyone is watching the uneventful drama of me exchanging private information with in-patients watching as an audience of a dull social realistic mise-en-scene. So naturally, we're discussing the coverage provided by insurance and how much will be subsidized by policy. You may not discuss about money in polite company, but you will publicly air it in the Encinitas branch of Acuity Eye Group. read more

I have a tearing eye and difficult to see. Called for an apointment. Waited 40 minutes wih NO ANSWER. Stay away!

Negative experience. Took my 85 year old mother in a wheelchair. I had to move her from her wheelchair to the examination chair three times. This is very difficult and dangerous for falls every time. They tried to do one test in her chair but could not get the machine down to the level needed for the test. Upon completion of seeing the Dr. was referred for her cataracts to go back. When we went to the desk to set this up the first thing they wanted to do was set up the next appointment with the Dr we just saw in one year. Only after setting up that appointment did we get to set up the referral to the cataract Dr. We are going to a different office for the cataracts. read more

Zero stars. My ophthalmologist retired from another location. I tried to get a glaucoma screening at this location, and I need a glaucoma specialist. They had a revolving door of ophthalmologists so I went to Shiley instead (which I highly recommend for glaucoma patients). I still decided to try out Acuity Eye Group's optometry department to update my eyeglasses and check my contacts. Thought they couldn't mess that up, but, I will never go back. If you need to call in you usually can't get a person, you get sent to voice mail, and the mailbox is usually full so you can't leave a message. If you want to use their optician and select glasses at this business, you have to do it in the waiting room in full view and within just a few feet of the other patients waiting to be seen. It is an awkward setup. If you want to take your prescription with you, you have to stand at the optician's desk in front of the other patients and deal with their disappointment that you aren't using them. If you take your printed prescription with you, make sure to get it SIGNED, otherwise it is useless anywhere else. Unfortunately for me, I left with an unsigned prescription. I am still trying to get a correct signed copy. I received a mailed signed copy that was different from the one handed to me by the optician. I tried to call in to get this mistake corrected but I can't get through and I can't leave a message. That is the main reason I am leaving this review. I am beyond frustrated and really disappointed, and I believe their systems/staffing is in a race to the bottom. About the appointment itself: The receptionist was very good and professional. The tech/assistant experience before I saw the optometrist was friendly and seemed really sweet, OK, but it was a little concerning that he told me he had recently been fired from a law enforcement position. I didn't let him perform a pressure check on my eyes, especially since I just had one done at Shiley. The optometrist seemed professional and competent. The exam price $65, was fair, but I also needed an updated contact prescription. I brought in my contacts and I don't need them changed. She had me pop one in and looked at it for about 20 seconds. She said she had to charge a "fitting fee" - an additional $70. That was a weird add-on. I don't necessarily fault her for this, it could just be Acuity corporate. Overall, my impression of Acuity is as low as I can imagine. I think that Acuity is buying other practices for the patient volume and then eviscerating the quality by penny-pinching, or strapping them for cash with leveraged buy-outs. My former ophthalmologist was located at the La Mesa office and the experience with the assistants/staff kept going downhill. At my last visit, I had to ask the tech/assistent to stop trying to check my eye pressure because of the clumsy way she was handling the equipment -- and my eyes. I felt bad about this, but I don't think these are well-trained people. After listening to the Encinitas assistant's career history, I decided not to let him anywhere near my eyes either. I can't recommend this practice at all. Go somewhere else, anywhere else, for your eye care. Update: still can't get through to obtain a corrected signed prescription, so giving up and going to Shiley instead. read more

Dr. Zaidi was wonderful -- friendly and thorough, the assistants and receptionists were nice and willing to answer questions, and Sheri made selecting the right frames fun and appears to love her job. read more

The facility itself is in poor condition. Examining room chairs are being held together by tape and could use a good cleaning. There is a shortage of staff for the number of patients visiting the facility. The staff was capable and always courteous. The doctors were very qualified and always helpful in explaining the procedures recommended. With a few improvements I would recommend them to others seeking eye care. read more

Wow ! Just left this office feeling so blessed . Front desk staff was friendly and attentive . Dr. Moshtaghi was kind and helped me find the right contacts (affordable) for me which I didn't know there was such a thing (nearsighted with astigmatism ) . We had to bring our 8 month son with us and they were understanding. My husband and I we were both seen in a timely manner and Christopher helped us pick the best glasses and listened well to my husband's need for a specific type of glasses since his job is outdoors. We live far from this location and this is where we could get an appointment the soonest but I am willing to drive here going forward because they were professional and just overall kind . Not the place you want to visit if you expect to be treated with an ounce of respect or courtesy. I walked in and was glared at by personnel as though I was an alien visiting from outer space. I proceeded to the desk and the guy there made eye contact, stood there and didn't say a word to me. I wondered if I had entered the twilight zone because one expects to be greeted, at minimum, upon approaching a medical office front desk. I finally said "hi" and the guy replied "hi" and said nothing more. He then proceeded to scold me because I forgot my driver's license at home and he said I shouldn't be driving without one. Who is he to tell me that?? I wrote the above a year ago and here I am again finishing my review. This place is an absolute fraud and I'm not surprised to find that 1 year later as I'm receiving a "no-show" charge for an appointment I never scheduled. After my last visit, the incompetent person at the front told me the system "made them" schedule a follow-up appointment snd although I continuously told her I didn't want to come back, she told me I didn't have a choice. So be aware that by coming here, you will unlawfully be forced into scheduling an appointment you do not want, you're not available for and you didn't request to schedule because that's how they make money on your "missed" appointments. You're a disgrace to medical practices and you should at minimum fire the people engaging in these practices or simply be shut down for defrauding the public. read more

Worst experience ever. Listen to the bad reviews! 1) It was such an ordeal to make an appointment. They are under-staffed and pretty disorganized in their office. 2) They couldn't access my eye insurance on the day of my appointment, and didn't bother to look it up in advance even though I had made the appointment weeks in advance. 3) They told me that they would figure out my insurance and call me back the following Monday (my appointment was a Friday afternoon). I told them I was in a hurry as there was only two months left on my insurance. I heard NOTHING. They never reached out. They never confirmed anything. I had to call back and the lady was like, "Oh, weird they didn't call you. Yeah we figured out the insurance." But they were supposed to call so that I could order my glasses. I called Acuity multiple times to explain that I am covered and they said they would deal with it. One month later, I call back and I still have the same balance and no one even told me. I would rate them minus 100 if there were one like that. Absolutely the worse of not just all medical service businesses, but basically any business I have dealt with in the past four decades. You get better value, service and honesty at a roadside taco stand. Buyers better beware. Their location at the scripps campus fools innocent victims. The "doctor" barely spent a few rushed minutes examining my eyes, did a cursory test - don't know how accurate _ of my vision and proceeded to talk me into getting an appointment with their ophthalmologist. They weren't very interested anymore because I said no for that day and because I did not buy glasses from them. And most shockingly and disgustingly, they asked me for a $65 check at the counter knowing I had my medicare and supplemental insurance, and then charged and collected the entire amount from medicare and my supplemental insurance. After getting my medicare statement, i called their front desk and the 800 number for the pasadena headoffice, but no one ever took my call, or returned my call or the message box was already full. Looks like their customer service dept. is a hoax. They are still sitting on an extra 65 dollars of mine and I don't like it one bit. Please use costco, lenscrafter, walmart etc. At least you will be getting excellent service and dealing with true professionals. Stay clear of this outfit. read more

If I could give this place 0 I would. I went in back in April, I was told I was gonna get my glasses in June. They never put in the order. Waited another 2 months and still got nothing. It's currently September. Finally got a call and I asked if I could pick them up on Friday. They said yes it's fine. I just went in to pick up my glasses and told me the person in charge isn't here. now I have to wait until next week to pick them up again. I have to drive 30 minutes from where I live. I wish they wouldve told me beforehand. Waisted my time, money and gas. Never coming back here again. read more

My review is based on one visit only so far.... I was referred by my retinal surgeon to see Dr. Scotti for fluctuating eye pressure. The day I tested in the 30's with the surgeon I called to make an appointment. The set up is a bit corporate, "our agents will be with you shortly" but when I explained my issue they transferred me directly to the clinic and they got me in the same afternoon. Dr. Scotti came highly recommended (only see him, I was told) as he is very detailed in his examination. They were correct, he was very detailed and spent quite a bit of time with me. I didn't have to wait long from the waiting room to the first testing but they did tell me it would be about 20 minutes for the doctor to follow, which was fine because I always bring a book to these things. When he came in, more detailed testing and I was extremely comfortable with his cautious approach. My only ding would be that the office is dated, if that matters to anyone... the structure of healthcare is changing, not always for the better but Dr. Scotti is most definitely worth seeing. I was a patient of Dr. Scotti for over 15 years. Since the transfer to Acuity Eye Group the service has gone from a 10 to ZERO. My Annual exam and peripheral field test took hours, his assistants were arguing in the hallway over the some other Dr taking the rooms. Kicked me out of my room left me in the waiting room for a while, I finally get into a room again and was told Dr Scotti would be with me next. After an hour I was still waiting. Ended up leaving without discussing my test results. Never saw Dr. Scotti. I called the next day and talked to the office manager Linda who mailed my test results but when I received the information it was missing my Eye glass prescription. I called again a week later and was told Linda is no longer with them. I talked to the new office manager Nicole who told me they didn't save my eye prescription into my chart. I watched the assistant add it to my chart when I completed the test and we discussed the fact that my RX hadn't changed much. Nicole proceeded to tell me I would need to schedule another appointment to receive my eye glass RX. So disappointed in the service. It shouldn't take 3 appointment to get an annual exam and Eye Glass prescription. read more
