I gotta say, "What a pleasant experience." I haven't been to an eye doctor in many years so was anticipating getting prescription glasses, as I'm heavily dependent on readers for any kind of detail work or reading. Dr. Louie did a thorough, lengthy, exam, asked lots of questions, looked at my readers and told me I don't need prescription glasses. My eyes are just "over 40" but in great shape. (Huh?) Dr.Kaestner followed up with more questions and her own exam and pretty much assured me my eyes are aging just fine. Both doctors were attentive, seemed quite knowledgeable and clearly enjoyed their work. How delightful to be treated in such a positive, professional environment and not "sold" a thing. I had to book an eye appointment since 1-800 Contacts caught me forging my old one. What can I say? I've never been a guy that didn't want to bend the rules. And it's not like they're painkillers, they're just contact lenses. So no one would have gotten killed :) Anyway, I have VPS insurance, and one of the closest optometrists in their network was Dr. Jeanne Louie. It was literally the best eye exam experience I ever had. The girls at the front desk were very professional, but also very personable...and downright hilarious. I moved to SD in 2003 from the east coast. Californians are usually too cool and self absorbed to joke around. Not these folks. It was great and made me feel right at home. From there I went in for the exam. Though I only wanted a contact prescription, I did have some burning and irritation that was bothering me. Dr Louie told me in a like 20 seconds what the problem was and how to fix it. In short, don't buy super cheap contact solution from Target. I was allergic to the preservatives. The exam rolled right along and she busted my chops about the forgery too. Not in a mean way, it was also very funny. She fixed my problem with the burning, gave me a very thorough exam, a new set of contacts, solution, and some eye drops to put in. All for a $5 copay. The kicker was that I got a year's supply of new contacts for $2.50. Wayyyyyy better than I was going to get with 1-800 Contacts. I think their deal was $50 for a 6 month supply. So I did things the right way, and it worked out. All for a grand total of 7.50. I spend more than that at McDonald's. Dr Louie and the girls were great, and I can't believe I'm saying this - but I'm looking forward to the next exam! We even joked about my Disney character credit card and goofy sunglasses inserts I had to wear since my pupils were dilated. It was like I was hanging out with friends the whole time. I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone. read more

Go to Doctor Louie for all your eye care needs! I've been having some problem with my eyes and wanted to get in quickly. She was so sweet and stayed late to see me. She was so patient and never rushed me and spent quite a while going over all the issues. It turns out I'm just getting old, LOL, so my fears were unfounded. I was still appreciate of her time and expertise. She also suggested contacts for reading. The non-dominant eye contains a reading contact and the dominant eye contains nothing or a far vision contact. You brain adapts and allows you to see far with one eye and close with the other. I was skeptical but she talked me into it. I'm in my trial period, but it feels nice to be able to read without glasses. For now, I have a little nausea but she said that's to be expected while my body adapts. I would highly recommend Dr. Louie!!! read more

Dr. Iyengar He is nothing short of a miracle worker in my humble opinion. Last October my lower eyelid was almost completely ripped off and my upper eyelid was sliced through from a surfing accident where the fin of my son's surfboard sliced up both of my eyelids of my left eye. His skilled surgery and confident reassurances and follow up during the recovery process have left me today with no visible difference from before this accident happened. I have been fortunate to never wear glasses until my mid 40's. Unfortunately that meant that I also hated glasses! I had struggled for years with getting a good contact lens prescription. I LOVE Dr. Kaestner. I have been getting dysport and botox for the last 14 years. It lasts, and the results have always been great. I am always so nervous about needles and she makes me feel very comfortable and spends a lot of time with me and doesn't rush me in and out. I have also gotten an eye lift by her.
