I visited this office in December 2025 with my daughter because she had rashes near her eyes and needed an ophthalmologist to check her. I chose this place because it appeared as in‑network under my vision insurance. My health insurance is UnitedHealthcare, one of the most common and widely accepted plans, so I had no reason to expect any problems. The exam they provided was nothing special--just the same basic check she gets anywhere when getting new glasses. Then I received a bill for almost $700 because they decided to bill the visit through my medical insurance instead, which was out of network. At no point did the receptionist or anyone else warn me that the visit would be billed this way or that it would be considered out of network. There was zero transparency. I even asked for a detailed billing statement to understand the charges, and they never responded. Not a single reply. This felt misleading and completely avoidable. Families deserve honest information before an appointment, not surprise bills afterward. I do not recommend this place and I don't want anyone else to get scammed the way I did. I've been going to Morris Eye Group for about 30 years. They sold the practice to NVISION. It's very obvious things have changed. You need to set 2 separate exams if you want a new prescription for glasses/contacts, and also want the medical evaluation. I went in today for contacts and they wanted over $200 (after VSP) for a lens fitting. I only wear one lens! I walked out. Also there was a sign that said if you use a credit card, they'll charge you an additional 1.9%! I was shocked at the higher price and the CC surcharge! I'm done and will not go back. I go to see Dr Amanlari at Morris Eye Group 2-3x a year. I have had procedures, tests and review of my diagnosis. Each time I come the front office staff are polite, friendly, helpful and professional. That goes for the tech staff that completes the diagnostic tests. Wonderful experience, swift, very little wait time and my insurance covers most of the treatment. Dr Amanlari is very professional yet friendly and keeps you calm. This place is an absolute dumpster fire as a business. From the poor customer service, to the over priced glasses & contacts; I immensely regret ever giving this optometrist office my business. In particular, David Salazar is a disgraceful and disrespectful employee who has a condescending attitude and talks down to customers with an air of arrogance. He alone is the reason why previous employees have quit their jobs. He thinks he is more important than he is. In addition to the terrible customer service, they billed me for something that I did not receive. They then argued with me and told me that I need to take it up with my insurance company instead of addressing the issue. I cannot stress it enough - avoid this office at all costs!! I had a terrible experience here. The office tried to bill Medicare for my regular eye exam. Office staff and billing staff are very rude. I will never go back. I requested and received a contact prescription. I never received an itemized bill. They are sending me a bill for $212. My EOB from my insurance says they owe me $15 and I sent the EOBs to them. They never responded and sent me a bill again. I asked for a detailed billing statement for the last 3 months. I still have not received it and have called 6 times now. Go anywhere else. Got low on contacts and realized the prescription had expired. Paid for an exam and a contact prescription. The doctor offered to have me try new lenses before prescribing contacts. One week later, I called, but I received no callback. Went to the Vista office. Never ordered, and the optical blamed the doctor. Told 1-2 weeks. Two weeks later, no lenses. Returned my call (unexpectedly), said the lenses would ship in a week, making four weeks after the exam. I told them I wear only one old pair of lenses when necessary, and my eyes sting. No call back this time, twice. I have already paid them, but I cannot get my prescription, and I have used my only insurance benefit. Will never trust them again. read more

Since Morris Eye Group has changed ownership, the customer service has become nonexistent. My whole family has been going there for many years and love the doctors, Dr. Vicknicky and Moshtaghi. They are both amazing and give great care to our eyes and treatment. My husband had Myopia and my daughters both wear contacts. Unfortunately I had an eye emergency and called the office to ask if it was from the eye drops I was on? I never got a call back from the office and my next appointment I complained. Their only response was in was someone's else's fault and offered no apology. I had to call again regarding not getting my prescription. It has now been a week and no call back. I don't even want to call anymore! It is so frustrating for patients, I am considering finding a new doctor. read more

The SLT procedure did not help at all although it was tried out twice by Dr Eddie Lari. I was prescribed with very expensive eye drops and after that I ended up with Actuity Eye Group but despite changing eye drops to another brand I had to go to Shiley at Lajolla. read more

I was early for my 1040 appointment this morning by ten minutes. the tech took me back to do the visual acuity and eye pressure readings and then had me sit for the appointment with the optometrist. it is now 1110 and no optometrist has called me. I approach the desk and find out this optometrist still has two more patients waiting so I have now been waiting 30 minutes and at least another 30 minutes. I cancel my appointment and reschedule in one week first appointment! I then also ask that the office manager call me today. it's now 4 pm and no call! this is totally unacceptable and no one had answers or really cared! BEWARE!! and I am post op .... all the appointments prior to surgery were very efficient. I guess now that I'm post op the efficiency falls away! read more

Horrible experience. Incompetence at every turn. First appointment exam, they took measurements and the technician "forgot" to save them. Too late to do over, as eyes were already dilated. Following dilation, they didn't say, "Sorry, we screwed up. You'll have to come back." No, they just proceeded, and took a stab at the prescription, and of course, got it wrong. Glasses were unusable. (Very expensive by the way.). Second appointment - returned to be re-examined and return glasses. Glass frames were refitted with "new" lenses. The new lenses are very different than the previous lenses. Easier to see, for the most part. It's just that this new batch has visible etchings all over them. Called Morris to inquire about this, and was told that "thats how the new progressives come. The only thing we can do is send them back and ask them to make them less noticeable." No explanation as to how the first lenses, although the wrong prescription, did not include these etchings. Did the technology change over night? Well, actually no. I found articles going back years, explaining the use of etchings. After just a few minutes of on-line research, I also discovered that the etchings should be invisible to the wearer and only visible to the optician using a specialized "identifier." You be the judge. Would you wear these glasses and not be annoyed by the visible etchings directly in your line of sight? Would you be annoyed that you had to return and be re-examined, thereby taking time off from work twice, and that you now have to return yet again, taking time off form work for the fourth time, (third time was picking up the etched lenses)? Would you be annoyed that in order to have the etchings mitigated, it will require a fourth (drop off) and fifth (pick up) trip in hopes that the next batch of lenses will be usable? Unless you have time and money to throw away, avoid this business. Already three trips, and still no usable glasses. Trip number four, and five, here I come. Ugh. It's funny how you can have eye exams, and buy glasses, year after year and have no problems; and you don't really appreciate that until you run into a business like this, and have nothing but problems. read more

I've had bad experiences here in the past with my own care, as well as my family's. After yesterday's experience, I felt like writing a review because of consistently poor customer service. I scheduled an eye exam about 5 weeks ago (yesterday was first available) and took some time off work to go to my appointment. When I arrived about 30 minutes early, the front desk attendant asked me, "Did you need a prescription today?" I replied, "Yes, that's why I had scheduled an eye exam." She looked at her computer and said, "Well, we can only do the medical exam, which we bill for separately than your eye exam. But the doctor who was going to do your eye exam isn't here and has been out since the 14th (for the last 2 days). Did you get a phone call?" I replied, "No, I wasn't informed. All I need is the eye exam. Can we still get that done?" She said it wasn't possible at the Encinitas location and offered to book me an appointment at their Vista office, but I did not have time to go there before my next appointment. She apathetically apologized and said it was their fault for not informing me, then when I wanted to reschedule. I chose not to and left. On the way out, I reached the elevator and turned around to see the two women at the front desk laughing about something. It could have been our interaction or something completely different, but I won't be returning. For what it's worth, the times I have been there previously, the examination portions of my visits and care quality have been fine, but the front and back office personnel have been completely unprofessional and have not always clearly communicated fees with some things not being covered by insurance. read more

My 20-year-old son just had Lasik surgery here and he is delighted with the results. An added bonus is that Morris is part of a national network and my son has unlimited touch-ups as needed for the rest of his life. What a wonderful added value. Such a horrible and frustrating experience. If you are looking to get a new prescription or new glasses/contacts, RUN FOR YOUR LIFE. My initial appointment with them was in February 2025. They billed me for two office visits because they couldn't perform the entire exam at the first visit so sneakily charged me for another visit and then claimed I was back due on my payment. I got a phone call from them and was asked to pay over the phone immediately. Thankfully I did not and looked into why I would be charged $570. They charged me for 2 new patient office visits within 2 weeks of each other. I had to contact the manager and after several calls I was told it wasa mistake and would be taken off. David Salazar is SO incompetent. He told me my contacts would take about 3 months, and should be covered. I waited and waited. I called three months later and he said "whoops" they hadn't submitted it. I waited another few months and called again and it was the same response, David told me that most likely it would be another 4 months to get my contacts. At this point, I went back to my old optometrist at Sharp and was provided with new glasses and contacts that day. After Sharp reviewed my insurance, they told me that I should not have to pay for any eye care as my vision is so poor it qualifies as a medical necessity. Which brings me to today, 9 months later, I just got yet another bill from them. I went to check the Better Business Bureau and in BOLD RED LETTERS it says "Morris Eye Group Comprehensive Eyecare Center is NOT a BBB Accredited Business." They are a complete SCAM. There are multiple complaints regarding them online about their billing system. Now I have to somehow get a hold of their billing department which has no phone number and when you email the support, you get "Address not found". This "business" should be shut down. read more

Came here as a follow up to an urgent care issue. I looked at my health coverage's website and found the Morris Eye Group. Based on their reviews / rating, I gave them a call and they got me right in the following day. The check in process was great and the technical staff was really easy going and competent. I asked to get an eye exam while I was there, and luckily my vision hasn't changed since my last exam over 4 years ago. The ophthalmologist was friendly, did a thorough exam and recommended I come back in a couple months just to follow up. No complaints. read more

Just had cataract surgery in my right eye and everything went so well. Dr. Johnson was my doctor and he is the best. He is very caring and takes the time to answer your questions no matter how long it takes. He was wonderful during the surgery. He came and spoke to me before it and put me at ease as did the nurse, anesthesiologist and a couple of other health care workers. It was a pleasant experience. I am amazed at how I can now see distance and the brightness I was missing for so long. I go back for my left eye in about 10 days. Front desk folks are friendly, professional, helpful. Support personnel are the very best. They take their time, they listen and ask questions when needed. My doctor and surgeon, Dr. Amanlari, came highly recommended to me by several friends. He is patient, through, listens, answers questions, is willing to talk about my concerns with good feed back. The staff and services are great. My wife and I have been going for years, and keeping going back. The downsides we've experienced is that the staff is often overworked, leading to stressed staff and longer wait times. Sometimes the staff is amazing (like this last visit) and so friendly. Other times I feel like they're taking my questions personally and impatiently. Also, they're not as up front with their costs as I think they could be. You may walk in expecting a $10 copay, and walk out spending $100-300. It depends on if you want a glasses exam, medical exam, contacts prescription, and so forth. By the end you can feel like they're about to surprise you with another fee every time a new staff member talks to you. All that said, they're a solid, well rounded practice trying to perform a lot of services. They're human, so it's not always perfect. But the end result is good and that counts for a lot.
