I am my mothers legal advocate and am writing this review as I had a personal exchange in the office with the incompetent Dr. Murphy today. In short if you are a person of color expect to be treated as though you are irrelevant. If you have medicare expect to have your appointments pushed around be bounced around to different doctors and to be treated differently because your insurance is not a PPO. This review is lengthy as I have A LOT to say about how horrified my mother and I are at the mistreatment and unprofessionalism of Dr. Murphy. Read below on how this office overbooks patients amidst the pandemic. NOT SAFE. The doctor was also not wearing a mask when I was having our little chat. If Yelp had a zero rating I would give Dr. Murphy zero stars. Dr. Forrest Murphy is an incompetent, uncommunicative RUDE optometrist who lacks personal follow up with his patients not to mention transparency. My mother had a procedure a week ago, I am her advocate for reasons specific to these sort of instances. Dr. Murphy told my mother that she would have a 15 minute procedure and in his words compared her procedure to that of "it's like cleaning your eye glasses", he told her recovery would be three hours which her procedure was a four hour long procedure and her recovery is still ongoing with complications that will have my mother seeking care with another optometrist not affiliated with this group. Over the weekend (five days post her procedure) my mother was experiencing blurred vision, in her words was seeing "milky white" and she complained of seeing circles on the eye that Mr. Murphy worked on. my mother also has a creamy white substance coming out of the corner of the eye which is not like that of rheum "cry". I phoned the office emergency line and spoke to the on call doctor, Dr. Mancias I discovered that my mothers follow-up appointment was not with Dr. Murphy but with another doctor in this group. Why would Dr. Murphy push my mother off to follow up post-op with a doctor who has never worked on my mother is showing a complete lack of ethics and bedside manner with his patients. I appreciate Dr. Mancias assistance in booking my mothers post-op follow up with Dr. Murphy which I accompanied my mother to today's appointment. Post the procedure my mother was horrified while going through her post-op paper work and found she had an implant card in the papers that they discharged my mother with, Dr. Murphy never explained this to my mother. Her vision is not doing any better than prior to this incompetent man having touched her eye. My mother cannot read, the doctor is now telling her not to use readers so she cannot read, Dr. Murphy told her to not use the eye that has not had the procedure without an explanation or given a duration of time before she can. Today Dr. Murphy was rude and defensive upon my mother questioning him on the implant that was not discussed, I was not in the room but was waiting in their second waiting room where I had view of the room they were in. Dr. Murphy stormed out of the room and my mother followed behind with tears in her eyes. Dr. Murphy knew I wanted to speak to him, he knew I was waiting and completely ignored me while quickly rushing to his office, I quickly followed him and confronted him. He literally called my mother a liar, claiming he had explained the procedure and denies and responsibility. My mother is one that rarely speaks up and is non-confrontational, I on the other hand am tired of the mistreatment of our elders especially those of color. PLEASE DO NOT SEE THIS DOCTOR. I have to add to this my mother had issues with the front desk and their lacking to verify insurance and three days prior to her first original scheduled procedure they canceled on my mother which was an inconvenience as my mother had to block time out of her work schedule for this procedure and rearrange her schedule due to Acuity Eye Group front desk staff. My interaction with Dr. Murphy did not pan out so well for him and I did make it CLEAR of how unethical, poor bedside manner, mistreatment of patients especially elders, his lack of transparency would be CALLED OUT! ALSO regarding COVID this office overbooks their patients. The first waiting room was full of folks some of which were not practicing social distancing, the second waiting room was full as well and the third waiting room in the back near the patient rooms was the only space that I was alone. This place does not feel clean or safe. read more

When I called to reschedule they said the Doctor was on sabbatical and not ava until may--they hadn't bothered calling me to tell me. I was sent to this place for cataract surgery with Dr. Alden . The surgery went well it's the post surgery that totally sucks . I'm a real patient guy and this place is not good with following up on eye care . I ordered my glasses thru them in January which came in February. I had to get some insurance paperwork filled out which they said they will call me after completed - no call back - paperwork missing - I had to get my glasses repaired already which they said they also will call me wen info on my glasses came in for repair. No call again - so I decided to come in for service. What happens - nobody here to help - they're all out for lunch . I made an appointment specifically to see an ophthalmologist. When I arrived for my appointment they said I was seeing an optometrist. Then the receptionist wanted to know why I couldn't just see the optometrist. What business is it of hers? I scheduled for an ophthalmologist so I expected to see one. Caring professional and clean. Dr. Schultz and his staff did an excellent job diagnosing my eyes. I have glaucoma and my right eye also has a full cateract. He went over my medical history and encouraged me that he will help save my eyesight. Because of the cateract we can't see the extent of the glaucoma damage in the right eye but I have hope and am grateful to find an experienced doctor. His staff were amazing and capable. They treated me with courtesy and respect which I seldom get being a very large woman. read more

The facility was crowded and dirty. Waited 75 minutes. Eyes were then initially checked and dilated. I then waited another 25 minutes after my eyes were dilated to see the Doctor. Doctor Chin seemed in a big rush and was extremely rude. Awful experience. read more

I was so grateful for the professionalism of the employees and doctors at Aquity. My father has dementiaCOPD, and cancer plus he cannot hear really well. They were very patient and spoke slowly to him. They were able to speak on his level in medical terms about the degenerative eye disease he has (considering he is 83 and his cancer or COPD will get to him prior to losing his site.). Came to my appointment just so to find out my insurance wasn't popping up in the system. You get a bunch of reminder messages and calls but the lazy front desk worker doesn't have the ability to check to make sure you're good for the appointment. Don't waste your time here if you're coming with insurance. read more

I felt like a machine being led from one room to another, very quickly. I have been to other ophthalmology groups and have been treated with a lot more of a personal feeling and respect, rather than just an object being pushed through so they can get to the next patient . Suddenly I'm in a room and told here's the doctor who immediately started to give me a refraction. Very little communication (he was very young, so Probably not used to dealing with people). Went into this office to make an appointment. Got the needed patient forms, so would be ready when I return in a few weeks for my appointment. My appointment was at 9 o'clock arrived at 8:45. At 9:17 after many people who had arrived after me were taken in I asked how long it would be. I did have another appointment scheduled 2 1/2 hours later. I told it would be another 15 minutes. Since this was a early morning appointment I'm not sure how it was already so far behind. I took it as a first impression of the service I would be receiving. Be careful with this location. I checked and double checked before I booked an appointment on 11/28/2022. There was no mention of a virtual visit. Not until I went to the exam room, I was told that the doctor would be talking with me via zoom. The worst part is the insurance. I have VSP as my insurance, which covers an annual exam with 10 dollars co-pay. I verified the coverage before I went in and paid 10 dollars. However, since then, I have been in the insurance nightmare. Acuity Eye Group charges VSP $383 for the visit, and VSP is not paying for it. I called Acuity billing dept, and they can't even find my record. The whole thing is mess. As of now, the issue is still not resolved. read more

I was seen at your La Quinta location. First time as a patient. I arrived and was greeted with a great attitude and smiling eyes behind masked staff. I heard several hellos and a Good Morning! The young lady that took all my personal info and medical history was Awesome. She made me feel comfortable by just allowing me to answer all her questions without rushing into the next question. She was friendly, kind and professional. I had the pleasure of being seen my Dr. Murphy. His attention to every concern was amazing. He answered all my questions and made me feel I was his only patient for the day. I definitely received 5 star treatment. While waiting in the lobby, Dr. Murphy arrived and walked through the lobby. I went in today to have my son get his eye exam. And I should have got her name but it didn't cross my mind. But one of the ladies there was so good with my son I was blown away. Even joking with her saying damn you are so good. My son struggled in saying some of the letters because he struggles with his alphabet and she wrote on a paper the letter and had him just identify in which way was the letters pointed. As always all the medical staff were great. When Dr Murphy got to me I explained to him that previous Dr saw me as a # and I didn't appreciate that. He just told me you have Diabetes and Cataracts but never once he explained anything on why or how. Dr Murphy took his time and explained everything I needed to know and then some. Not sure where to start so I'm going to keep it simple....STAY AWAY from this place..their AC doesn't even work. Felt like they were running a cattle call..awful check in process...the lady at the front was atrocious and lacked any customer service skills. It's a massive barn looking place that was FULL of people and everyone was waiting for a VERY long time. I left after waiting over an hour...awful awful awful is the only way I can describe my experience. I wouldn't go here if it was the last eye doctor on the planet. That bad! Beware! Went to the clinic today for an appointment I made in early March. When I made the appointment it was in person because I wanted to be sure that the Medicare and supplemental would cover the cost. I presented both my Medicare card and my Humana card (the clinic is listed as accepting the coverage). I was informed at that time that...yes they would bill my insurance providers. Arrived this morning having completed all their voluminous paperwork only to be informed that they couldn't bill my insurers. Total waste of MY time and the time of my designated driver (the appointment was for a dilation exam). I am pretty sure that the doctors here are professionals but the office staff and logistics of this group are terrible. I could have been informed of the inability to bill Medicare or Humana at my initial contact and I could have made other arrangements to get this exam done while here visiting California. The providers are incredibly helpful they answered every question i had. I have been a CMA for over 16 years, and its evident the providers care for their patients, the front staff can work on the way they reflect kindness by smiling more.
